In this episode of Amazin' Conversations with Jay Horwitz, we revisit one of the greatest hoaxes in sports history: the curious case of Sidd Finch. Jay is joined by Joe Berton — the man who became Sidd Finch — to reflect on the unforgettable 1985 Sports Illustrated April Fools' story that convinced the baseball world a barefoot, French horn-playing pitcher could throw 168 mph. Joe shares never-before-heard stories from spring training, behind-the-scenes shenanigans, and what it was like to live the legend. Whether you were there in '85 or just hearing about Sidd for the first time, this is a Mets moment you won't want to miss.
He wore only one shoe - a heavy hiker's boot - when pitching. Finch could throw a fastball at an amazing speed with pinpoint accuracy.

Allâh Resûlü (s.a.v.): “Ebûbekir dünyaya geldiği zaman göklerde bir şenlik olmuştur. Cenâb-ı Hâkk, Adn Cenneti'ne şöyle nida buyurmuştur: “Sende Ebûbekir ile onu sevenlerden başka kimse yerleşmez.” Cehenneme de nida edip buyurur ki: “Celâlim hakkı için sende Ebûbekir'in düşmanlarından başka kimseyi azablandırmam.” Kıyâmet koptuğu zaman Hz. Ebûbekir (r.a.)'a şöyle nida buyurur: “Ey Ebûbekir! Bugün sevdiklerine nasıl muamele etmemi istersen, onlara öyle muamele ederim.”Peygamberlerden sonra insanoğlunun en büyüğü olan Hz. Ebûbekir (r.a.)'dır. Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.)'den iki yaş küçüktür. Vefatı da Allâh Resûlü (s.a.v.)'in irtihalinden iki sene sonra vuku bulmuştur. Hz. Ebûbekir (r.a.), yaradılışı itibariyle tertemiz bir fıtrata sahipti. Cahiliyet devrinde bile asla putlara tapmamış ve kötü bir amelde bulunmamıştı. Hilm âlemi yüce sıddîk, etrafına ışıklar saçan bir güzelliğin de sahibi idi. Uzunca boylu, beyaz tenli, gür saçlı, seyrek sakallı, çukurca gözlü idi. Kendisi Kureyş arasında sayılan, sevilen, itimad edilen ve sözü her zaman dinlenilen bir insandı. Allâh Resûlü (s.a.v.)'in en samimi arkadaşı ve sırdaşıdır.

We are challenging the notion that leadership is neatly outlined on the organizational chart. This pervasive misconception often limits our understanding of what effective leadership truly entails. Leadership goes beyond titles and positions, permeating every level of an organization. It's not confined to the hierarchy; it's a dynamic quality found in individuals who inspire, collaborate, and guide others toward shared goals. Our guest, Sidd Vivek, the accomplished CEO of Junior Achievement San Diego, challenges this notion and unveils the universal truths about leadership, whether in the for-profit or nonprofit sector. Sidd shares his wealth of experience, highlighting that every step up isn't necessarily a step forward. The discussion revolves around the importance of envisioning your ultimate destination and how critical it is to understand that leadership isn't confined to a specific title or position—it happens at every level. We explore how effective leadership is about moving people forward, overcoming challenges, and embracing opportunities. The organizational chart is dissected, emphasizing that while there may be numerous positions, removing just one, even the CEO, doesn't halt business operations. Sidd stresses the significance of recognizing that leadership extends beyond a single individual—it's about the collective efforts of a team. Life, as Sidd notes, is multi-dimensional and far from linear. We explore the concept of taking larger exits, understanding that career paths are diverse and unique to each individual. The podcast delves into hiring practices, emphasizing that it's not about filling positions but about bringing in people. Sidd encourages us to listen to our employees and teammates, allowing them to shift seats on the bus as they grow and develop. Leadership isn't about titles; it's about moving people forward. Tune in for a thought-provoking discussion that challenges traditional notions of leadership and highlights the dynamic, multi-faceted nature of leading, no matter where you are on the organizational chart. Leadership truly happens at every level, and this episode will inspire you to rethink your approach to leadership in your own journey. Repost from BOB Radio (Build on Bitcoin) What happened in 1971? It's happening. No, this isn't a dream. We can't contain our excitement any longer. We have two HUGE reasons to celebrate. It's Maed in India's 300th episode!!! We're celebrating this milestone with a band that's been the soundtrack of the lives of college students through the late 90s and early 2000s. Mae has the iconic alt rock band Zero in the studio to celebrate 300 episodes of the show! And she's even brought an old friend along with her too - Music Journalist, Co-founder of erstwhile NH7.in, Head of Red Bull Media House India, and #1 Zero superfan – Arjun S Ravi. They chat to Sidd, Warren, Bobby and Rajeev about their first i-Rock, about how these Dadar boys know each other, what their songs are really about (kinda) and how Zero once almost broke up. You also get to hear about how they got paid for a gig in sandwiches, a Europe tour that never happened because they weren't “Indian enough”, using underwear as a pop filter, Buffy The Vampire slayer, leather chaps, and a whole lot more. You'll also get to hear them perform a song that they've never recorded before right here on Maed in India. Song List: Mariachi (01:44 - 06:32) Wish (34:09 - 38:50) Take Me Away (1:10:18 - 1:15:19) Zero is: Rajeev Talwar on Vocals Warren Mendonsa on Guitars Girish 'Bobby' Talwar on Bass Sidd Coutto on Drums Follow Zero: Instagram @whatmezero Facebook @whatmezero Twitter @whatmezero Come be our friend: Facebook @maedinindia Instagram @maedinindia Twitter @maedinindia CREDITS: Hosts: Mae Mariyam Thomas & Arjun S Ravi Instagram: @maemariyam & @arjun_s_ravi Twitter: @maebemaebe & @arjun_s_ravi Sound Editing & Additional engineering by: Lakshman Parsuram Episode Mixed & Mastered by: Kartik Kulkarni Producers: Shaun Fanthome and Husein Haveliwala Artwork: Alika Gupta Recording Engineers: Ashyar Balsara & Aria Nanji Music Mixed by: Jehangir Jehangir & Warren Mendonsa Recorded at Island City Studios

This New England-bred designer started Beau & Ro while living in New York City and has since expanded into an all-encompassing line that includes dresses, handbags, jewelry, and more. The Beau & Ro team takes great pride in American craftsmanship, but also produces seasonal designs from artisans and craftsmen around the world to create a dynamic collection. Olive Workshop was co-founded by American designer Sara Rossi and Delhi native Sidd Chaudhary. In India, Sidd helped Sara streamline her apparel production by opening up lines of communication, improving trust, and providing much-needed transparency in the supply chain. Sara realized there was an opportunity to take these new processes in-house and create a factory that does things differently, allowing her to control the lifecycle of a dress from the very first stitch to the final transaction with the consumer. We know guests will enjoy getting to know Sara today. Be sure to share this episode with a friend! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/howdshedothat/support
"A study of the hill tribes of Southeast Asia titled “The Art Of Not Being Governed” provided a fresh take. The author, James C. Scott, posits that the hill tribes were not “left behind” by the valley states but instead composed of refugees from the negative consequences of state-making down in the valleys: bondage, tribute, slavery, war epidemics and more. The rough terrain in the hills served as a natural impediment to absorption by the state." - Captain Sidd Today's article brings a unique perspective on history that sheds light on what is happening today. By showing how physical terrain kept the power of the state in check for thousands of years, Captain Sidd expands on the analogy to propose a technology today, that creates that same resistance to state power, in the digital space. The thematic reason why Sidd says the show needed an orchestra — and how SCORE: THE PODCAST's own Carol Kuswanto ended up playing piano for the score! (She joins to break it down.) We also chat with Sidd about whether discovering true-crime podcasts in between seasons changed the tone of his music, working with top-notch editors, and the hidden clues in season 1's score.
