When you ask most professional brewers about what they do the most, the vast majority will answer cleaning. Despite this fact, during my many years of working with breweries of all sizes I frequently come across the phenomena where a baseline of clean for some brewers reveals that they have only ever known a dirty tank or other equipment as their baseline and call it clean. But if we have never seen the equipment or tank truly clean, how do we establish a true baseline? How do we define what clean is? When and how do we know our equipment is truly clean? How do we identify the first indications that our equipment is not clean? What should we consider before problems develop? What are the possible implications if we ignore the problems or simply do not have the expertise or training to identify them? This presentation will answer those questions and more.Born and raised in Cologne, Germany, Dirk graduated in Cologne with a degree in business administration. In this episode of the IAB UK Podcast, IAB UK's CMO, James Chandler, delves into a pressing issue impacting advertisers, publishers and tech experts alike: the unintended consequences of keyword blocking in news environments.Recent research from Mantis reveals that terms like "victims" and "incident" are still blocking ads on content like Super Bowl-related coverage, affecting both publisher revenue and advertisers' reach. In fact, even pop culture icons like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande have found their names on keyword blocklists, raising important questions about the effectiveness and overreach of these filters.James is joined by Becca Hutson, Editor-in-Chief of The News Movement, Tom Pickworth, Director of Technical Operations at Mail Metro Media and Fiona Salmon, Managing Director at Mantis, to discuss the implications of this issue and what steps the industry needs to take to foster a more balanced approach to brand safety, context and advertising reach - and what it will take to drive real change. As always, we'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic - drop us a line at podcast@iabuk.com Hosted on Acast. This week was a duality of extremes for me. On one hand, I experienced an unprecedented growth spurt in my user numbers, while on the other hand, I stumbled into frustrating scarcity and infrastructure problems. That's entrepreneurship for you: big wins while struggling to not lose control of the whole thing. The juxtaposition of these two experiences in a single week was both challenging and enlightening. This episode features an interview with Glenn Vanderlinden, Co-founder and Lead Solution Architect at Human37. Glenn has over a decade of analytics experience and has held various roles at Semetis including Executive Director of Technical Operations and Services, and worked as a Business Analyst at Deloitte. Today, Glenn helps organizations drive business results by leveraging customer data. In this episode, Kailey and Glenn discuss bridging departments to create a consistent customer experience, focusing on the boring parts of AI to drive results, and making the most of customer data with a flexible enterprise.-------------------Key Takeaways:Creating a consistent and coherent customer journey requires communication between departments and the bridging of tech stacks.Without a Chief Data Officer in place when implementing AI, garbage in, garbage outwill result at an unprecedented scale because everything is over automated.Ensuring you have the right structure and processes in place for AI may seem boring, but it's essential if you want the tech to work for your business.-------------------“If you want to start with personalization, if you want to start with data or upgrade, whatever you have, start with use cases. Verify what you need in order to bring them to life. Be specific about the requirements. Take into account privacy, consent, data minimization. But, the user story is so important because otherwise you might end up with data that has no use case.” – Glenn Vanderlinden-------------------Episode Timestamps:*(03:10) - Glenn's career journey*(06:06) - Trends impacting marketing and customer engagement*(11:51) - Glenn's take on flexible enterprises*(18:47) - AI use cases*(25:58) - How Glenn defines “good data”*(40:22) - Glenn's recommendations for upleveling customer data strategies-------------------Links:Connect with Glenn on LinkedInConnect with Kailey on LinkedInLearn more about Caspian Studios-------------------SponsorGood Data, Better Marketing is brought to you by Twilio Segment. Attackers have started increasingly targeting victims' backups to prevent organizations from restoring their data. Veeam's "2023 Ransomware Trends Report" found more than 93% of ransomware attacks specifically targeted backup data. So if I'm the ransomware person, who am I going to attack? I'm going to attack Caesars Palace (hotel in Las Vegas) again, I know they're going to pay. There's all kinds of things you can do to provide layers of protection into your environment." "The ransomware attack is not through vulnerabilities as much as through phishing. And because of that, people are the weakest link in your security plan, inevitably, it's going to happen to everybody.""The most common thing that I've found is when they recover from ransomware, they don't contact their insurance first. And the bad part about that, whether you're going to pay whether you're not going to pay, if you didn't contact your insurance first, chances are, they're not going to pay you back.""The other big mistake I see is people rushing the recovery to get back online versus getting back online safely.""On the technical side, the mistakes that I often see people make is they want everything to be integrated and simple. The New Year always opens with one of our favorite productions of the year: the NHL Winter Classic. This year, the event visited the Pacific Northwest and T-Mobile Park in Seattle as the league's two newest franchises – the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken - met up outdoors. This is now the third year that the NHL on TNT and the team from Warner Bros. Discovery Sports have handled the production and, as usual, it was a feast for the eyes. On this episode of The SVG Podcast, we reflect on the broadcast with Lee Estroff, Director of Technical Operations at WBD Sports to get his take on what made this baseball stadium a beautiful place to broadcast a hockey game from, what advice he would give to someone working on a live sports production in a unique locale, and much more. The SVG Podcast is for the sports-video–production professional looking to keep up with the latest in sports-video–production operations and technology. The program features interviews with some of the biggest, most influential names in the sports-video business talking trends and topics that impact the industry.

Note: In keeping with the topic of this episode—artificial intelligence—the following summary has been generated by ChatGPT using a transcription from the podcast. In this podcast episode, host Joe Payne and co-host Mike Lawless discuss the topic of AI and its impact on the design profession. Their guest, Michael Kilkelly, is a registered architect and member of IMEG's internal Technical Operations team. He shares insights on how AI is being used in the field of architecture and engineering. They discuss the initial fears and concerns architects and engineers may have about AI taking over their jobs. However, as people start using AI tools like ChatGPT, they realize the practical applications and usefulness of these technologies. Michael highlights that while there may be some unfounded fears, there is also a recognition of the skill involved in effectively utilizing AI. The conversation dives into various areas where AI can enhance the design process. Michael mentions generative design tools like TestFit and ARK that help architects create optimal building layouts based on specific parameters. They also discuss the potential of AI in aiding visualization during client meetings, where AI tools can generate images based on spoken text, allowing clients to better understand and react to design concepts. The hosts explore the benefits of AI in terms of efficiency and productivity, as well as the potential for AI to assist with data analysis and historical data access. They emphasize the concept of "augmented intelligence" and the idea that AI tools can enhance human capabilities rather than replace them entirely. Michael introduces the concept of "prompt engineering" as the art of extracting useful information from AI systems, while maintaining contextual control to avoid generating false or fabricated data. Looking toward the future, the discussion touches on the possibility of personalized AI assistants or virtual copilots that can work alongside professionals, providing support and leveraging collective experience. They also anticipate advancements in querying databases with AI, allowing users to ask complex questions and receive accurate answers, leading to more informed decision-making. For related information, read Michael Kilkelly's article, “AI and architecture and engineering: Programmed for success,” published by Smart Buildings Technology.

In what ways are you growing? You listen to podcasts to grow – that's admirable. In what other ways are you growing? What opportunities are available to you within your organization? How are you taking responsibility for your continual improvement? Do you see an opportunity for development and advancement? Is it a career or a job? Curiosity culture – is your voice heard? Can you ask questions? Are you encouraged to be curious? That sense of wonder is the missing ingredient in any Fixed mindset, stagnant culture, situation, and relationships. Key Moments3:14-6:50: Identifying ‘who is a customer' to model and govern data 7:11-9:27: What is MDM and how does it add value? 10:27-14:57: Who needs MDM and how does new technology solve for data quality? 15:11-17:53: Limitations and considerations when searching for a “single source of truth” 18:15-21:45: Who is responsible for MDM within an organization and who comprises it? 22:16-26:59: What are the differences between analytical and operational MDM? 29:15-31:50: Top 4 reasons that so many MDM implementations fail 32:45-36:40: Using a business perspective to identify the right outcomes 37:40-42:25: How MDM is evolving to use graph functionality in addition to relational databases 42:32-43:15: Why Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) fall short for enterprise-level management 43:36-49:51: Insights on novel MDM use cases: data sharing, graph databases, data fabrics 50:08-53:53: 3 ‘Watch-outs' learned from years in the data management space 54:36-57:26: How small companies can implement MDM principles 57:38-1:00:14 The gap between data software and real business outcomes Key TakeawaysWhen is MDM relevant for an organization? (10:22-11:34)“The bigger and more complex you are and the more decentralized you are...where organizations are struggling to have a single view of the customer...the larger the company, the more they tend to have a need for MDM.” - Malcolm HawkerCloud-native data warehouses vs. MDM software (15:11-16:33)“There are many cloud-based data warehouse technologies that are saying we can enable a single version of the truth, and they absolutely can...but does it have all the flexibility and reconfigurability to allow for all the things that MDM software can do? Typically, they don't.” - Malcolm HawkerWhat are the differences between analytics and operational MDM?? (23:51-26:22)“An analytical style of MDM is where the flow [of data] is one-way...[operational MDM] can actually turn around and syndicate that data back down into consuming systems.” - Malcolm Hawker4 MDM pitfalls to avoid during your implementation (29:15-31:01)“If you've got a need for MDM and if you have been given a mandate by your management to come up with a single version of the truth...avoid the key pitfalls that often send so many MDM programs sideways.” - Malcolm HawkerCompanies of all sizes can benefit from MDM principles (57:05-57:26)“I would argue that most companies need MDM as a discipline...But chances are, you still have some use cases that need that consistent approach to the data management side...” - Malcolm HawkerAbout the GuestTobias Macey is a dedicated engineer with experience spanning many years and even more domains. Welcome to another exciting and informative episode of the Data Gurus Podcast! Sima is happy to have Adam Baker and Majeed Saheb-Zadha joining her today. Indico Labs is a data-visualization business and product. They are based in London and have clients across the globe. Majeed is the Founder and CEO, and Adam is the CSO. In this episode, Majeed and Adam talk about their startup journey and discuss the pain points Indico Labs addresses in the marketplace. The pain points addressed by Indico Labs Indico Labs was born as a result of two main forces. The first was a push from the industry to deliver results and insights faster. The second was that the industry has become saturated with data. So researchers did not have the time to interpret it quickly enough to create something deliverable for the client. Indico Labs essentially create a data presentation product that streamlines the process of generating reports. That enables the researchers to interpret the reports quickly, create the visuals, and deliver them to the end client faster. Majeed's story Before starting Indico Labs, Majeed worked in the Technical Operations Department of YouGov, an end-to-end market research company. Essentially, his job was to address ways to deliver and interpret results faster. The Technical Operations team addressed every part of the company's workflow and found an obvious bottleneck when it came to the reporting element of the business. They identified that as the main pain point in the entire workflow. A code-based solution Majeed then designed a code-based solution that allowed him to deliver reports to the researchers much faster. He and his team at YouGov managed to save about 80% of the time it took for senior researchers to do data entry. An online product Majeed wanted to give the researchers the power to build PowerPoint decks using data they had already. So he quit his job at YouGov and created an online product that automated the production of data presentations. He wanted to satisfy the needs of tech-enabled products to integrate with his solution and the needs of traditional market research agencies. He launched the product in 2019. After building his prototype, Majeed asked Adam to join him. Adam's story Adam left YouGov in 2017 and spent a few years doing consultancy work at other market research agencies. Everywhere he went, a lot of time got wasted on the reporting. Then, Majeed contacted him in 2019 to show him the tool he was creating. Adam was blown away by it and wished he had had it ten years earlier! Since then, they have developed that tool even further. Marketing Since day one, there has been a lot of interest in their product from big and small organizations globally. They have spent almost nothing on marketing. Success They have been finding a lot of success with small to medium-sized fast-growing market research agencies that need a way to compete with some of the big players in the market. The sweet spot Adam has been selling, and Majeed has focused on the product side. It took them a year to realize that their sweet spot lies with smaller agencies that don't have an in-house development team or the money to spend on building in-house solutions. Growing and learning Since starting Indico Labs, Adam and Majeet have developed a lot of resilience. They have done many demos, and they have been learning how to close clients by focusing on the right questions to ask to ascertain whether or not their product will be useful to them. They have also learned to use time-saving marketing tools. Majeed's advice Majeed advises people to focus on the customers who are happy with what they have right now and sell what they currently have. Funding features If a client asks for a feature you do not already have, ask them to fund its development. They have had clients funding many of their features in the early days. Celebrate the wins
