In the SEC Insider Hit Bo and the crew talk about expected QB play at Ole Miss and MSU, how good the Bulldog defense should be and wearing sleeveless shirts live in the BankPlus Studio. The guys talk about what to expect from Jaxson Dart, Spencer Sanders, and maybe even Walker Howard in the first game of the season for Ole Miss against Mercer. Bo says he thinks the position could be up in the air for as long as the first three games of the season before the Alabama game. The guys talk about the possibilities of what backup QB Mike Wright at Mississippi State could show against SE Louisiana in the first game and what it could mean for the rest of the season. Bo believes that this should be the best defense Mississippi State has had in a while and thinks that if they don't show that on the field then it will be labeled as a disappointment. A texter believes that this will be the best defense Ole Miss has had since 2014 and the guys look at the depth chart and talk about if that prediction is possible. Bo mentions that someone on a morning show is working out while they are being interviewed and tells Jason that he should try working out during the show. This sparks a conversation about wearing cutoff shirts and what type of person fits the mold perfectly. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

What were you wearing in the ‘90s, Slushies? Sleeveless flannel and crochet? Paco Rabanne? We're beguiled by Emily Pulfer-Terino's poems on this episode as we discuss how she slides us back to the ‘90s. She has us sniffing magazine perfume inserts and marveling at the properly cranky voice she invokes for an epigraph, borrowed from Vogue's letters to the editor. What were we thinking wearing all those shreds? Only the girls on those glossy pages know for sure. For more context, check out Karina Longworth's excellent podcast, You Must Remember This, and her recent deep dive into the bonkers eroticism of the 1990s. Plus, Sentimental Garbage's episode on Dirty Dancing featuring Curtis Sittenfeld. For a great collection of poems that draws its title from grunge-era jargon (kinda, sorta, wink, wink), we recommend a book we love by our pal Daniel Nester: Harsh Realm: My 1990s. This episode is brought to you by our sponsor Wilbur Records, who kindly introduced us to the artist is A.M.Mills whose song “Spaghetti with Loretta” now opens our show. At the table: Jason Schneiderman, Marion Wrenn, Kathleen Volk Miller, Samantha Neugebauer, and Dagne Forrest Emily Pulfer-Terino is a poet and writer whose work has appeared in Tupelo Quarterly, Hunger Mountain, The Collagist, The Southeast Review, Poetry Northwest, Stone Canoe, The Louisville Review, Juked, and other journals and anthologies. Her poetry chapbook, Stays the Heart, is published by Finishing Line Press. She has been a Tennessee Williams Poetry Scholar at the Sewanee Writers' Conference and has been granted a fellowship for creative nonfiction at the Vermont Studio Center. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Syracuse University, and she lives in Western Massachusetts. Author website: http://emilypulferterino.com/ Instagram: @epulferterino Grunge & Glory “You're kidding. Tell me you're kidding. At least I'll know where to find my new wardrobe this year...in the nearest dumpster…talk about the Emperor's New Clothes. Tsk, tsk.”—(Letter to the Editor)[1] What's more glorious than a girl in a field, curled in the whorl of a deer bed, alfalfa haloing her dreams of fashion magazines while she plies matted hay, untatting her world? Bales score the landscape, parceling endlessness, parsing this solo tableau, while her heroes wrench their music into being in Seattle, gray, time zones away. What's grunge if not her dense crochet of castoff couture curated from dumpsters and worn with a frisson of pride and shame: flowering nightgown, old ski boots, sweater turned lace in places by moths and age? And this field like where models pose in Vogue, each page itself a piece of land and an ethos framed inside a storyboard. Scala Naturae Like prying pods of milkweed so those astral seeds effuse— unseaming magazine ads for perfume. Anointing my wrists with scented glue, running each over the edge of a page, testing scents I aspired to buy and classifying my olfactory taxonomy. Grass evoked the world I'd known with hints of rain and magnolia slight as fog above an unmown field. DNA's rosemary, oakmoss, and mint, ancient and clear as purpose; glass spiraled bottle signifying sentience and enduring iteration. Both ethereal and hyperreal, Destiny offered apricots, orchids, and roses-- bottle opaque as an eyelid, veil of petals sheer as promise. Samsara was amber, sandalwood, ylang ylang, peach. Syllabically lulling, its s and a extending, repeating, suggesting endlessness. Cycle of birth and death rebranded as serenity in ongoingness. Angel's burst of praline and patchouli lit the crystal facets of that star, making heaven of my pulse and ordinary air. [1] Wynne Bittlinger, letter to the editor in Vogue US, February 1993
Bo and Blake talk SEC football, sleeveless shirts and tight britches in the first hour of the show live in the BankPlus Studio. The guys discuss the concept of sleeveless shirt guy and when, if ever, it's acceptable to wear one in public. That leads to Bo talking about the ridiculous outfit that LSU football head coach Brian Kelly was wearing at the Zurich Classic pro-am this weekend. The guys question whether or not Kelly got dressed in the dark when he left the house. Bo and Blake debate the best, and worst, places to wear a sleeveless shirt and the type of person who might wear them all the time. The guys talk about how people in the South embrace the sleeveless lifestyle and why crossfit guy has to always wear a sleeveless shirt. Bo and Blake talk SEC football and the latest from Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher, who took shots at the media people covering him at his press conference over the weekend. My first guest today is an award-winning journalist with over two decades of experience in the industry and while we should be celebrating that part of the story, we're not. Sadly despite all of Tess van Straaten's hard work committed to her craft, she is often subjected to to comments about appearance that diminish and detract from her achievements, as she was recently when someone wrote a letter criticizing her sleeveless dress on air. She joins me to discuss her viral story. 2023 is the year we shift out of languishing and into post-traumatic growth. Candy Ho, Board Chair of Ceric, the only charitable organization of its kind in Canada, focused on career development education and research joins me today to discuss today to share insights on how to navigate the current workplace and workforce realities, in addition to resources available for those looking to build purposeful careers after nearly three years of disruption. Anne Brodie is here with entertainment and this week we take a look at LIVING, starring the absolutely wonderful Bill Nighy, in the story of an ordinary man, reduced by years of oppressive office routine to a shadow existence, who at the eleventh hour makes a supreme effort to turn his dull life into something wonderful. Plus Aftersun, from writer/director Charlotte Wells which dominated the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards this year. For years, nurses across the country have been sounding the alarm about the impact that staffing shortages are having on patient care—yet those warning calls have continually gone unanswered. Ontario in particular is facing a full-blown healthcare crisis and nurses have reached a breaking point. To add insult to injury, Internal documents by the Ministry of Health were released this week through the freedom of information act that shows the Ontario government knew that passing Bill 124 would worsen the province's healthcare staffing crisis. Dianne Martin from WeRPN joins me to discuss. Finally, finances are a top concern for most Canadians right now so Stephanie Chabot from the Finance Diaries is here with some tips for riding out the storm. Stephanie believes that by being able to openly discuss finance topics: we can understand them better, avoid mistakes others have made, feel more empowered, and make better decisions. By his 20s he was working as a sound designer for Akai, Roland Emu/Ensoniq, eventually signing on exclusively with the latter. Later, due to a growing demand for software instruments and libraries, Eddie started to develop libraries for various software manufacturers, including Native Instruments, Kiesel, Sound Effects Library, Arturia and Propellerheads.
