Dr. Jason Peplinski, Commissioner of the Greater Los Angeles Softball Association (GLASA) and Co-Executive Director of the Sin City Classic Sports Festival talks with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ about their event that takes place January 12th to 15th in Las Vegas, Nevada. GLASA created the Sin City Classic in 2008 as an LGBTQ softball tournament meant to provide a safe and competitive atmosphere for LGBTQ athletes. Over the past 16 years the tournament has grown into the largest annual LGBTQ sporting event in the world including 24 sports and approximately 10,000 athletes and fans. As the Sin City Classic continues to grow and evolve this year they're adding two new competitions: pickleball one of the fastest growing sports globally and sand volleyball. Hosted at the Flamingo Las Vegas GLASA remains committed to creating the best experience possible for a diverse roster of dedicated athletes who participate and the fans and allies who come to enjoy the festival. The Sin City Classic Sports Festival kicks off with the Opening Night Registration Party held at the Flamingo Las Vegas. Competitions and nightly social events then take place around the city with the weekend culminating in the Closing Night celebration to be held at the LINQ Promenade's Brooklyn Bowl as a way to celebrate the weekend's activities. The festival will also be presenting the second annual Ken Scearce Leadership Award. The award was created in 2022 to honor the memory and legacy of Ken Scearce the Executive Director of the festival who passed away in 2021. The award recognizes athletes, leaders, coaches, referees and other volunteers who dedicate their time and skills to promoting the value and importance of LGBTQ sports. We talked to Jason about what he hopes to accomplish at this year's Sin City Classic Sports Festival and his spin on our LGBTQ issues. Dr. Jason Peplinski began his stellar teaching career in Lancaster, California. In 2004 he accepted a job as the Assistant Principal of Royal High School and from there he served as Principal of Abraham Lincoln School in Simi (2004-07), Moorpark High School in Moorpark (2007-09) and then Santa Susana High School from 2011-13. He then became Director of Educational Services at the Simi Valley Unified district office and was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. In October of 2014, Dr. Peplinski was named Superintendent of the Simi Valley Unified School District. In June of 2022 Dr. Peplinski retired from his superintendency with the Simi Valley Unified School district and began a full-time faculty position with California Lutheran University. The Sin City Classic Sports Festival takes place annually in Las Vegas Nevada over Martin Luther King weekend with presenting sponsor Lexus as well as Caesar's Entertainment, Tito's Handmade Vodka, Piranha Nightclub, the Los Angeles Dodgers, AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. It's been a lot of hard work to reach this point, but none of the students show any sign of slowing down, they're all trying to race toward the future with everything they have! Uraraka Ochako, perhaps more than anyone, is ready for the undertaking! She's been prepping herself for the task since she started at this school! And nothing's going to get in her way! Hopefully, striking the proper balance of her internship, school work, and having a social life shouldn't be too hard...probably. Today is #Giving Tuesday (which happens to follow the frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday each year). Giving Tuesday was created back in 2012 to help "unite countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another."According to Neon CRM, the winter months are reported to be the best fundraising months. November accounts for 46% of annual giving and December 30% of annual giving. However, with tax returns coming up, this Spring can also be a good time to fundraise as people have cold, hard cash in hand and can often be more likely to give to various causes. If you take part in annual events such as 5 or 10ks, half-marathons, or other fundraising events for non-profits, chances are you are starting to look ahead and put those events on your calendar now. But when do you start promoting and raising funds for such events?Well, today we have special guests, Jen Murano-Tucker, Director of Events, and Raegan Erickson, Event Coordinator, from Huntsman Cancer Foundation with us to speak to all things fundraising. From what should we look for in organizations to support, red flags that should alert you when choosing a non-profit to raise money for, to overcome some of the biggest fundraising challenges, and what counts as a charitable contribution write-off - we'll learn the ins and outs of fundraising from these foundation pros. Now, listeners, I can tell you firsthand how fabulous Jen and Raegan are and what a solid, reputable organization both Huntsman Cancer Institute and the foundation are to work with. My father was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma five years ago and my mother with Glioblastoma brain cancer last year. Both of my parents have received treatment from Huntsman and the care that is received there is just top-notch. Each time our family has walked into Huntsman (which has been A LOT) we have truly counted our blessings that my parents have been able to receive their treatments there. Huntsman Cancer Foundation holds an annual Sports Festival each year for walkers, runners and cyclists to take part in raising funds to help find a cure for cancer - if you are looking for an organization to get involved with I would personally invite you to join the cause through that Sports Festival. You can take part in any state and HCI makes it so simple to collect donations and apply them to your fundraising account.Don't want to raise money, but just want to find a worthy cause to donate your hard-earned money to all while knowing you make a positive impact through your giving? Whether to Huntsman or the American Heart Association, Food Banks, or other passion of yours - what better day than on this Giving Tuesday.Link to see if companies will match donations: https://ww2.matchinggifts.com/search/ritConnect with Jen or Raegan at events@huntsmanfoundation.org, https://www.HuntsmanCancer.org or https://www.Huntsmanheroes.comDonate on this Giving Tuesday at:https://give.huntsmancancer.org/page/23698/donate/1?ea.tracking.id=lightbox&utm_source=lightbox&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=nov2020&utm_content=gtSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/hollyshighlights)

Do you now qualify to compete as a pro? Let's see. With no intentions of discouraging you, whatsoever, becoming a Bikini professional calls for determination, commitment, hard work and a lot of patience. I mean, that's the bare minimum - without which you're bound to lose. At this stage, the angled pose and huge smile are not enough since you are competing against best of the best. More is required. First things first. IFBB stands for International Federation of Bodybuilders. And with your permissions, let me bring you to speed on the process of becoming a professional bodybuilder. For you to become an IFBB Pro, earning an IFBB Pro Card is prerequisite. And for you to earn the card, you must give an exemplary performance at a regional contest. This will earn you a place in the national championship (NPC national show), where depending on your performance, it will earn you the IFBB Pro Card. Sound easy on theory, right? While turning pro in just one shot is possible - and most of us can do it - it isn't feasibly realistic. Besides the process to be followed, your effort is key to how fast you can turn pro. So what is the realistic time frame to achieve this desirable goal? Let's find out with Jessica Palmer. Jessica is an IFBB Pro and a coach at FitBody Infusion, a team of health and fitness professionals committed to helping individuals reach their fitness goals. She also works full-time as a licensed Dental Hygienist. Through hard work and consistency, Jessica has won a pro show, won overall in several shows including her very first show where she won the Novice Bikini Overall. She recently competed in the popular Arnold’s Sports Festival, and her goal is to go to the Olympia. In this episode, we talk about what is a realistic time frame to turn pro, see physical changes, and the best tactics to do so. We also discuss macros meal timing and the best way to utilize your offseason. Please listen till the end for a chance to win a Bikini Diaries T-shirt. Take it away! Takeaways Your dream doesn't have an expiration date; take a deep breath and try again Motivate yourself to achieve your goals Success doesn't always happen right away Make sure you have the right coach Everyone's build is different Learn and understand how your body responds Find what muscle groups you need to develop Work hard Ensure your blood work done frequently Don't mess up with your prep In order to get your desired physique, you must be honest with yourself Be patient and take the time Do your research thoroughly Important questions [00:07:45] How many years have you been competing? [00:12:35] Why do you compete? [00:17:02] When did your fitness journey begin? [00:19:37] How long does it take to get ready for a show? [00:31:09] Can you describe the results you may get in your first show? [00:34:47] What do you think is a more realistic timeline to turning pro, or go to the Olympia or even the Arnold? [00:36:53] How many shows are these professionals actually doing before they make it to the top? [00:43:08] In relation to getting a fast metabolism, do you think this is something anyone can do or do you think this is only for specific body types?
