A Safe Alien for the Box Office: Steven Spielberg's E.T. The Extra Terrestrial This week Mr. Chavez & I shift our focus from the dangers of extra terrestrial life to the cute and cuddly alien that captivated audiences in 1982 - Steven Spielberg's E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. At the time, the biggest box office hit in the history of cinema (a title it would hold until Spielberg's own Jurassic Park eleven years later), E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, is a film that has stayed in the public consciousness for the better part of four decades . . . But is it really as good as we remember? This week we look back and answer that question with an examination of the film, the time in which it was made, and its standing among other films of the genre, year, and culture. Take a listen - it's a fun discussion. Hit us up at gondoramos@yahoo.com to let us know what you think. Many Thanks. We continue to look to you good and loyal listeners for support. If you have listened and enjoyed our bantering over these nearly eight years please feel free to support us with a monetary contribution. We're not asking for a whole lot. Whatever you can give is appreciated. 2024 is promising to be an incredible year filled with great discussions. Help us make this possible. We appreciate anything You Cheap Bastards can give. We're kicking off "FRIENDruary" with a look at Paul Rudd's "favorite" movie, 1988's Mac & Me. Both a shameless rip-off of Steven Spielberg's E.T. AND a shameless fast-food commercial disguised as a movie, Mac & Me is that special sort of crazy that only Hollywood in the 80s could give us. Over the years, it's developed quite the cult following, but does it truly deserve it? We discuss that question, as well as the thin line between "cute" and "terrifying," the unbelievable alternate ending, and more. So join us for a McDonald's Dance Party and listen on! You can't get any more Christopher Nolan-ish than Inception. A true epic. A "get out of the theater and say 'wow' three times" kind of film. The Chumps dissect the provocative ending, why the spinning top doesn't matter, the casting brilliance, Tom Hardy bodying every other actor, Luke's beef with Ken Watanabe's character's final decision, and some decisions that Nolan makes that other directors probably wouldn't with this movie. PLUS: Corrye's got an anti-paper airplane rant; we're talking movie candy; Steven Spielberg's E.T. regret; and a shocking Robert Shaw lookalike.

| Analysis | Today's cast is a throwback to a better time - a simpler time. Steven Spielberg's E.T. was released 40 years ago, but its mark on popular culture remains indelible. The boys recently had the chance to watch it in IMAX for its 40th Anniversary, so we're going to talk about why it's so good, both superficially and on a deeper level.
Topics discussed on this episode include the passing of Coolio, a grocery give-away for the community, the latest from the war in Ukraine, LinkedIn experimenting with users' data, an empathetic Kanye West, President Biden's latest gaffe, NFL and college football, NASA's recent DART Mission, a man allegedly seeing a gargoyle in Illinois, a revelation about Steven Spielberg's E.T., and what caused the Salem Witch Hunt.
Let's go back to the Summer of 1982! There are two movies from Universal about Aliens one comes in peace, the other one is a menace! That's right! We are talking back to back about these excellent classics, Steven Spielberg's E.T. the extra-terrestrial and John Carpenter's The Thing. We both go into both films profoundly and appreciate the practical effects that went into both films. This week we got Alvarado Street Brewery's Cosmic Lust IPA, Brewery Ommegang x Firestone Walker Brewing's Neon Giants Astronomical Hazy IPA, 2 Towns Ciderhouse's Cosmic Crisp Cider. It is officially Season 3 of @ready2retro and we are kicking things off by giving honor to one of the greatest months in cinematic history: June 1982! For week one of June 1982, R2R will be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Steven Spielberg's "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial"! "The Godfather of R2R", Joey from @ninjatoitles, joins us as we reminisce about our favorite scenes, talk about the "E.T. Adventure" ride at Universal Studios, share how E.T. was involved with the video game crash of 1983 and we discuss if humans have made contact with extraterrestrials.
E.T. The Extraterrestrial wowed audiences when it was released in June of 1982. Now forty years later, this wonderful Steven Spielberg film still has many fans throughout the globe. That's why Movie Addict Headquarters is celebrating with an episode all about E.T. Happily, Canadian film critic Geoff Roberts will discuss this entertaining sci-fi offering, and film critic/actor Mack Bates has agreed to host. It should be a fun and enlightening show! Geoff Roberts is a frequent guest on Movie Addict HQ. He always completes in-depth research about each episode's topic, and that explains why he has become one of our favorite guests. Geoff has been a guest on a variety of Canadian and American radio and TV programs. From 2006 to 2009 he was a guest on “daytime” in Mississauga, Canada, giving his perspective on the Academy Awards. From 2013-2014 he was the host of Front Row Center on WhiStle Radio in Stouffville. He also contributes film commentary to ReelTalk Movie Reviews. Guest host Mack Bates has written freelance articles for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and served as a staff blogger for Milwaukee Magazine's official film blog. He also received an Emmy for his work on the The Robert and Rosie Show. Recently Mack has appeared as an actor on various stage and radio productions.
June 11-13, 1982: We arrive at the summer's highest profile success story as well as its highest profile bomb. Steven Spielberg's E.T. – The Extraterrestrial captured the hearts and imagination of the nation. And Grease 2 dropped off the planet almost instantly upon arrival. But, has it been unfairly maligned after 40 years in the […]
June of 1982 gave us three of the greatest science fiction movies of the 1980's (and maybe all time)! Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" and John Carpenter's "The Thing" may have gotten buried at the box office by Steven Spielberg's "E.T." but they have since become appreciated as 80s classics finding their audience through cable and VHS. This episode we deep dive into the origins of these movies telling the stories of how they came to be. We also cover some of the unexpected connections between these films. It's been a goal to speak with Jim Bissell since starting this podcast because on my wish list of designers and decorators I wanted to selfishly interview people who inspire me and inspire the world of cinema and tv. Jim Bissel has so many films that I cherish that of course I'm a total dork in this interview. He has a fascinating origin story that put him in the sights of Stevan Speilberg on one of his first films E.T. We talk about comparing his spaceship design from E.T. to The Midnight Sky. He reveals some Easter eggs from ET and The Rocketeer. The magic of trashing the house in Harry and the Hendersons. He won an Emmy Award in 1980 for his work on Palmerstown, U.S.A. followed by a BAFTA nomination for production design on Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. He has a Oscar nomination for Good Night and Good Luck. Three ADG nominations, and the ADG Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, which.. He's going strong, he might need another one.

In this episode of The TruthSeekah Podcast TruthSeekah is joined by Dee Wallace as they discuss UFO's, Aliens, E.T.'s, Spirituality and Healing. When it comes to the subject of UFOs, and Aliens who better than to discuss these topics with than “Mary” (Elliott's mom) from Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Dee Wallace? Over the years Dee Wallace has played in many alien and horror movies ranging from E.T., Critters, The Howling, The Hills Have Eyes, Cujo, Rob Zombie's Halloween, 3 From Hell, The House of the Devil, The Lords of Salem, The Lost, The Stepford Wives, Popcorn, The Frighteners and many more. I was surprised to find out that not only does Dee Wallace have a strong belief in UFO's and Aliens, but she also is a full time clairvoyant and energy healer. Dee works with clients on one on one helping them find true spiritual healing and working through emotional blockages. Dee travels the world speaking at conferences and hosting webinars offering her intuitive services. During the episode we talked about the duality behind a fascination with horror and healing as the two seem to be counterproductive together. Known as a “Scream-Queen” Dee sees the beauty and creativity in the horror genre that allows us to feel many different emotions watching movies in that genre. Dee says “People want to feel alive” and the horror genre allows us to do so. I also asked Dee about a conspiracy theory that I remembered hearing from some christian ufologist who said that Steven Spielberg has a collection of alien implants that were taken out of UFO abductees. Dee immediately shot down the notion calling it a conspiracy. We then went on to discuss the evil alien theories and agendas and talked about the fact that even the term abduction is something that seemed to die out in the 80's and 90's as most people refer to themselves as experiencers and contactees now.
