Before POLTERGEIST, haunted house movies took place in old, creepy mansions. Regular host Rico Gagliano visits the original suburban house in California to check for ghosts and hands over to guest host Anna Bogutskaya to explore how POLTERGEIST transformed horror movies forever with the help of the movie's star JoBeth Williams, original publicist Mick Garris and horror filmmaker Vincenzo Natali. Season 6, titled Haunted Homes, explores how haunted house movies have mirrored our relationship with our homes. Each episode visits a horror movie that changed the way we imagine a haunted house, from the crumbling Gothic mansions to white picket fences, what it says about the people who live in the houses and what scares them the most. This week it's mediations on love and loss with this 2022 conversation from the SpielbergPod archives. It's a One Perfect Scene episode, with Paul and I discussing the (super emotional) final scene of Steven Spielberg's 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial'.
For this bonus episode, Emilio, Madeline, and Julian power up a communicator and call on the presence of Mike Duquette, an out-of-this-world pop culture writer based in Astoria, NY, to discuss Steven Spielberg's evergreen classic 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial'. Mike brings his encyclopedic knowledge of all things 'E.T.' for a panoramic look at the film and its legacy. The group covers the film's personal and inauspicious origins, its unusual (at the time of its release) foregrounding of children and childhood, the best-selling film novelization (and its authorized sequel?!), its status as a rare box-office behemoth that's also a stand alone movie, the Oscar-winning score by John Williams, and the little details that make 'E.T.' a film for the ages. Mike Duquette has worked for Legacy Recordings, Rhino Records, Allmusic, Ultimate Classic Rock, Discogs, Observer, uDiscover Music and Mondo Records, where he penned the liner notes to their 40th anniversary vinyl release of John Williams' score to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. He founded The Second Disc, a website devoted to music reissues and box sets, in 2010, and writes about other music, movies and film novelizations at Duque's Delight. If you enjoy our podcast, please rate and review us on your podcast platform of choice. Of all the genre titles the 'family film' is perhaps the trickiest to define. Its intention, clearly, is to entertain and appeal to the whole family - togetherness. But what are the specific ingredients that make it so? Nevertheless, cinema goers seem to have a good sense of what an advertised family film might have to offer. Matthew Sweet looks back at this category of film, which seemed to spring into existence in America around the 1930s, and he foregrounds the music of some of the best and most defining examples. The programme includes music from Home Alone, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Gulliver's Travels, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, ET - The Extra Terrestrial, Kiki's Delivery Service, Paddington 2 and the Classical Score of the Week - the Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell score for Shrek.

In this episode, we are coming back down to earth but bringing an extraterrestrial with us. ET is wrinkly and cute, kind of like Michelle as a baby. We gush over the adorableness of the film's sibling dynamics, Spielberg's experimental camera play, and talk about why frogs deserve better. Grab your bike and Reese's Pieces. We're going to Elliot's house.
We have a REPLAY episode for you this week. Novelist Namrata Patel was on the show last June when her debut novel The Candid Life of Meena Dave came out. Just last week she had a new novel published, The Scent of A Garden. Both books feature complex multi-generational Indian-American families. ** Namrata Patel has been writing for 20 years, but it wasn't until the pandemic that she had more time to work on it. She had always been interested in dual culture and challenges of the diaspora, specifically Indians who had moved to the United States. The isolation of COVID really brought home how lonely life can be if you don't feel like you fit anywhere. Her debut novel The Candid Life of Meena Dave follows a photojournalist who inherits an apartment from a stranger. The apartment in Back Bay Boston surrounds her with a close-knit network of other Indian-Americans. Meena comes to learn more about herself and her culture, as well as understands the gift of found family and friendship through this experience. ATC phone home, ATC phone home...! We're back among the aliens and the spaceships today as we tackle Steven Spielberg's tear-jerking classic. We're also incredibly delighted to welcome yet another wonderful special guest, the brilliant Sam Chown-Ahern! Sam is a filmmaker, artist, collaborator, and member of the Neurocultures Collective, who are currently working with Autism Through Cinema in the creation of an experimental feature film. Sam also presented a wonderfully bizarre re-edit of a scene from ET at the Autism Through Cinema conference in January 2023, and we discuss her motivations behind these artistic choices. But mostly, we're having a good old chat about a well-beloved film. We find particular interest in the film's navigation of tropes from horror films and family dramas, and we consider Elliot as a figure of loneliness. We also pick up on ET as a film about communication, connecting this with non-normative modes of autistic communication. Huge thanks to Sam! Check out Sam's work here: https://www.samchown-ahern.com/

I'll be taking a few weeks hiatus following the Summer of '82 at 40 to recharge. In the meantime, I have a trio of commentaries from Out Now with Aaron & Abe to deliver over the next 3 weeks. The first up is ET, which I did discuss during the Summer of 82 series, but […]
En este episodio conversamos sobre "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (E.T.: El Extra-Terrestre) de Steven Spielberg, protagonizada por Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace y Peter Coyote.
It's been 40 years since E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial came out and so it's recently been playing in limited release. The SMGs happened to revisit it last month and boy are they glad they did.Matt and Grant are two old friends on Long Island in New York who have been watching movies together for 30 years.Check them out at suburbanmovieguys.com where you can sign up to follow them on the podcasting app of your choice.
Every person has a film that they saw as a child that stuck with them. Not an animated movie or cartoon, but a movie with real actors made for the whole family to enjoy. With my son getting closer to 6, it was time to start introducing him to different films that mean so much to me. What better time than the 40th Anniversary to introduce him to ET The Extra Terrestrial Hang on to the end of the episode to hear Tom's sweet voice talk about his first big film watch. What did he like, what was scary, and did it make him feel sad? This week's question is: What childhood film stuck with you? The gang geeks out on a new season of "Never Have I Ever", the 40th anniversary IMAX release of "ET: The Extra-Terrestrial", "The Gray Man", the first episode of the Game of Thrones prequel series "House of the Dragon", and they geek out on the new Hulu Original "Prey". This episode, we take a break from looking at the current box office by looking BACK into the past, 40 years to be exact, as we celebrate and discuss two of the greatest films ever made: Steven Spielberg's ET: The Extraterrestrial and John Carpenter's The Thing! We reminisce, discuss and bask in the glory of these bonafide cinema classics.
What could make the greatest film summer of them all, 1982 - where within four months POLTERGEIST, STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, E.T., ROCKY III, BLADE RUNNER, THE THING, CONAN THE BARBARIAN, TRON, FIREFOX, AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, PINK FLOYD: THE WALL, THE SECRET OF NIMH, THE ROAD WARRIOR, NIGHT SHIFT, DINER and more, ... which 40 years ago all opened back-to-back / week-after-week - even better? How 'bout reliving that time with the people with whom you first saw many of those movies! That's what we did - inviting three of our closest life-long friends to step into the WayBack Machine with us to that most memorable summer. And, hey, in doing so we realized it wasn't just the films themselves which gave us that lifetime of memories we cherish to this day, but the fact that it was also a very special time of life associated with those movies which we came to emotionally - sometimes subconsciously - link to them. And as such, whether - like us - you got to those now-classic flicks of '82 in the first "POS" car you ever owned or on bicycles, whether those four months helped heal a first-time broken heart, or whether it was the last time you and your own personal STAND BY ME / STRANGER DAYS / FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH-like group of friends were ever together in the same room before separating to the four winds, to this day every time you rewatch one of those films a piece of you zooms back to the time and place you first saw it - and with whom you saw it - faster than Doc Brown can say "Great Scott!" or "1.21 gigawatts!".__________________________________THE MOVIE SNEAK PODCAST is part of The GullCottage/Sandlot - a film blog, cinema magazine, growing reference library and online network "Celebrating The Art of Cinema, ... While Rocco is away, Alex and Matt will play... with their little alien pal from Brodo Asogi! E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial has been delighting adults and terrifying children for 40 years now, becoming an instant blockbuster, then an icon for Spielberg's company Amblin, an Easter egg in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and eventually a punchline in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers. But we think this lil guy deserves so much more! After all, E.T. is quite possibly Steven Spielberg's best and most personal work to date. It's a new mini-marathon, folks! This summer, we're gettin' in the ring with Steven for the SPIELBERG SUMMER SLAM! We're hitting up his incredible run of blockbusters from the genre-defining JAWS (1975) up through his hand-wave screen technology-introducing MINORITY REPORT (2002)!The NeverEnding Movie Marathon is a weekly podcastic celebration of cinema. We know, we said we were going to review Alex Garland's Men this week, but we made an executive decision, what with it being Memorial Day weekend in the US. Memorial Day is, traditionally, the start of "Summer Blockbusters," and we thought we would premiere our new mini-series with a film by the (Grand?)father of the modern Summer Blockbuster. Spielberg's ET is a benchmark in the lives of many 80's kids, and it turns 40 years old this week. (well, in Cannes, anyway...). But does it hold up? Listen to see what Jenn and Rich think! Every review helps us get noticed! If you like our show, won't you please leave a written review on Apple Podcasts or the podcast delivery system of your choice? Namrata Patel has been writing for 20 years, but it wasn't until the pandemic that she had more time to work on it. The book comes out June 1 but those book lovers who have Amazon Prime can download her book for free during the month of May with their First Reads program. Episode Number 40: DOPPLEGÄNGER (1993)We've got a weird one this week, folks. DOPPLEGÄNGER stars Drew Barrymore (ET: THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL, SCREAM) as a young woman who flees New York after the murder of her mother. She winds up in Los Angeles where she moves in with a young man played by George Newbern (FATHER OF THE BRIDE, ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING). He quickly falls in love, but her mother's murder isn't the only secret she's hiding. She also has an evil twin.Or does she?Directed by Avi Nesher (TIMEBOMB, TALES FROM THE CRYPT PRESENTS RITUAL).Here's the tagline:Sometimes love can be a killer.Have you seen this one?Let us know your thoughts at chrisandchristalkmovies@gmail.com Welcome to Chris & Chris Talk Movies. In this podcast, life-long friends Chris Ferry and Chris Huddleston discusts Sci Fi movies (sometimes the best Sci Fi movies, sometimes not), horror movies (occasionally some of the all time best horror movies…often…not), a few of the very best action movies (I think you see where we're going with this), and genre films from their childhood and beyond in this laid-back, rambling, but inviting series!Rated PG for occasional mature language and alcohol consumption.
Today we pod home our thoughts on Steven Spielberg's sci fi family classic which is simultaneously way too scary for a family movie, so cute it's ugly, get way too in the weeds about Drew Barrymore's career, and discuss if 1982 was the best year ever in movies?
In this episode I chew the fat with Robert Macnaughton, star of the 1982 mega hit ET The Extra Terrestrial. We chat about the movie and plenty of other things including being at Harrison Fords house! Robert MacNaughton (born December 19, 1966) is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Elliott's brother Michael in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, for which he won a 1982 Young Artist Award as Best Young Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. MacNaughton also played the lead role of Adam Farmer in the 1983 film I Am the Cheese, based on the young adult novel by Robert Cormier. "It's a heartwarming story, but it's just not believable, which is why I give E.T. one and a half stars." Perd Hapley, Ya Herd with PerdE.T. Adventure is sensory-filled and sometimes bizarre. This opening-day attraction takes place after the beloved film "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," the 1982 classic that, when it was released, was the highest-grossing movie of all time. The ride at Universal Studios Florida is so special to director Steven Spielberg that he's even said if Universal ever tears it down, he will never make another movie for them again. In this episode, we're going to talk about it all: the history, what the heck is going on in this strange ride, and what E.T. means to you, our listeners. We asked on Instagram @ParkPeoplePod for you to share what you think of E.T., and we'll be shouting out some of you on the show. Our friend Jonathan put it so well when he said, "E.T. is near and dear to my heart. He represents love, friendship, and childhood wonder." And we think E.T. Adventure continues all of those sentiments... conditionally.Theme music: "Wakka Wakka," Bryan Teoh, public domain.
As Josh and Joe mentioned on the last episode, the plan was to provide you with an update from SXSW film festival, however, with the current COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the globe, that event was cancelled....and so was the backup plan to do a reaction episode for A Quiet Place 2. Let's change it up. And what better way to do that than review one of the most joyful, magical, and heartwarming films of all time. Please join the guys as we welcome back Albert Padilla, from the Cantina Cast, to talk about ET: The Extra Terrestrial and why this film is so special. Deanna "Dee" Wallace also known as Dee Wallace Stone, is an American actress. She is perhaps best known for her role as Mary, the mother, in the 1982 blockbuster film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. She is also known for her starring roles in several horror films including The Hills Have Eyes (1977), The Howling (1981), Cujo (1983) and Critters (1986), which earned her the title of "scream queen". Wallace is a public speaker and self-help author, having written three books, and has her own call-in radio show, where she talks exclusively about the creation of "self". She often speaks about how you can get through tough times with determination and love. She has also written a book called Bright Light, about her life lessons from an acting career.
