In this episode I talk about a chapter of a book called "The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck" by Mark Manson so all credit to Mark Manson. This way of "not trying" is briefly going about things in a way that is less stressful and to not not live in a way that society expects us all of us to live. The definition of success is not what you think. It's not the 6 car garage with luxurious cars, a big house, a super model wife, a rocking body or being famous and having social status. Its being happy, full of joy and being 100% comfortable in your own skin. Don't stress yourself out trying to reach a status that will give you popularity. Be yourself, know what you're good at and know what you're bad at and focus on making those things a bit better. A key to a happy and successful life is to be transparent with yourself. don't be someone you're not and be the person you are meant to be and the person you know you are. Thanks for the support and I hope this information has helped you gain clarity with yourself. I would appreciate it if you share this episode with one of your friends that you feel might need to hear this. A little bit goes a long way. Make it your mission to do what you love and to make others happy along the way! I love y'all and I hope you have a great day! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/allaroundmind/support

This episode is based on the thoughts of Mark Manson, author of The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck, where he remarked that: "Some of the most important truths in life are contradictory on the surface. They seem like impossibilities, yet experiences proves them to be obvious over and over again. It isn't until you look a bit deeper, beneath the surface contradictions, that the real grains of wisdom emerge." With this, I uncovered all 10 paradoxes and related them to my view of the human being. With Excitement allow me to introduce today's guest Co-founder Korgen Hospitality Group and Author of The Surprise Restaurant Manager, Ken McGarrie. Ken is also the author of the book The Surprise Restaurant Manager. Ken McGarrie is the cofounder of Korgen Hospitality, a nationwide consulting firm dedicated to helping restauranteurs reach their absolute potential with effective leadership and maximum profitability. For the past two decades, he has helmed many successful restaurants, bars, and entertainment-based venues with a relentless focus on anticipatory service, staff empowerment, and attentive hospitality. He has helped launch new concepts and train hospitality leaders throughout the U.S. and Canada. After failing to start an exceptional college band with only average talent, Ken worked as a server/bartender while writing for magazines and newspapers. He started in management the same way that many people do – by surprise. When his GM asked if he would take a set of keys and open the restaurant on occasion, he was suddenly promoted to manager with no training or preparation, like so many others in the industry. Ken went on to open and manage numerous successful restaurants and entertainment venues. With Korgen Hospitality, he has an exceptional client list, including helping open over a dozen restaurants with Celebrity Chef Fabio Viviani nationwide. This week, Lisa and Misty cover Love Is Not Enough by Mark Manson. Here is a bit about the author in his own words, right from this audible original: "My name is Mark Manson. I’m the New York Times bestselling author of THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A FUCK and EVERYTHING IS FUCKED: A BOOK ABOUT HOPE. Most people don’t know this about me, but before Subtle Art took off and I became a huge, fancy author, I primarily gave relationship advice. 12 years ago, I started a blog. It was a blog about my own dating life. I didn’t expect anyone other than my guy friends to read it. I just wanted a place where I could write out some of my own confused experiences and figure out what the hell I was doing wrong. To my surprise, other young men started following along and reaching out to me. As it turned out, they had similar issues and insecurities as I did. They asked questions, and being a good little blogger, I went in search for answers. Those answers brought more readers and more questions, which brought more answers, and more readers, and so on. Fast forward seven years and I was making a full-time living writing relationship advice to millions of readers across the world. It was like I was the millennial Dear Abby who happened to say 'fuck' a lot.” Well, there you have it folks. We cover every chapter in this Love Is Not Enough book review: The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy of Pain Boundaries Power Struggles Choosing Reality Over Fantasy Vulnerability The Courage to Be Loved Simple but Difficult If you like what you're hearing, you can grab the book here or check out the author's website here.

Mark Manson (@MarkMansonNet) is the #1 New York Times Bestselling author of *The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck*, the mega-bestseller that has been translated into over 50 languages and sold more than eight million copies worldwide. Mark has also built one of the largest personal growth websites in the world, MarkManson.net, a blog with more than one million monthly readers and half a million subscribers, making him one of the largest and most successful independent publishers in the world. His writing is often described as ‘self-help for people who hate self-help’ — a no-BS brand of life advice and cultural commentary that has struck a chord with people around the globe. His writing has been published in Time Magazine, Forbes, Vice, and CNN, among many others. The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck is one of the most popular books of the 21st century, as it has been one of Amazon's top ten most read books for the past 101 weeks. His new book, Everything Is Fucked: A Book About Hope, is available right now.
About This Month's Book For decades, we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "Fck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is fcked and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mindset that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up. Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek. Source About Mark Manson Mark is an author, blogger, entrepreneur, and personal development consultant. Mark grew up in Austin, Texas, graduated from Boston University in 2007, and a couple years later, started an online business and blog. Over the next few years, he traveled all over the world, working as a blogger full-time. He now lives in New York City with his wife and continues to help people through his blog and his books. Sarah's Takeaway I had major Gary Vaynerchuck and Grant Cardone vibes while reading this book. Manson is very straight forward and to the point about the ideas he presents in his book. But he also shares relatable examples to help you understand. After you get past the first chapter that is filled with a few more f-words, you will find an immense amount of gold within the pages of this book to help you find what it means to not put your energy into caring about what doesn't matter so you can give it to what is most important to you. Shaunae's Takeaway I was a little worried this book would be all swear words and fluff, but I was so wrong. This book is full of great content. Mark shares that it's not about being indifferent, it's about putting value on the right things. Mark shares his thoughts and humor in the best possible way. My favorite part of the book is when he gets into five counterintuitive values that we should adopt. Values like taking responsibility for our actions, the willingness to discover our own flaws, contemplating our own mortality, and more. Favorite Quotes: “Because here's another sneaky little truth about life. You can't be an important and life-changing presence for some people without also being a joke and an embarrassment to others.” “We suffer for the simple reason that suffering is biologically useful. It is nature's preferred agent for inspiring change.” “Don't hope for a life without problems. There's no such thing. Instead, hope for a life full of good problems.” “Because happiness requires struggle. It grows from problems. Joy doesn't just sprout out of the ground like daisies and rainbows. Real, serious, lifelong fulfillment and meaning have to be earned through the choosing and managing of our struggles.” "Negative emotions are a call to action. When you feel them, it's because you're supposed to do something. Positive emotions, on the other hand , are rewards for taking positive action. When you feel them, life seems simple and there is nothing else to do but enjoy it. Then, like everything else, the positive emotions go away, because more problems inevitably emerge." “If you want to change how you see your problems, you have to change what you value and/or how you measure failure/success.” "The only difference between a problem being painful of being powerful is a sense that we chose it, and that we are responsible for it." “Don't just sit there. Do something. The answers will follow.” "Action isn't just the effect of motivation; it's also the cause of it." “Confronting the reality of our own mortality is important because it obliterates all the crappy, fragile, superficial values in life. While most people whittle their days chasing another buck, or a little bit more fame and attention, or a little bit more assurance that they're right or loved, death confronts all of us with a far more painful and important question: What is your legacy?” Pick up your copy of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck!
