As the podcast world grows, more and more people realize the power of podcast guesting. While getting on other podcasts as a guest can be an incredibly valuable tool to grow your impact, you want to be podcast guesting and not just podcast guessing. This should be a strategic process in which you first evaluate your goals, and come up with a plan that makes the most sense for you. Some people start out by wanting to just get on the “biggest” podcasts possible, but that doesn't always make the most sense. Today's guest is here to explain how you can profit as a podcast guest by coming up with a plan that aligns with your goals.Tom Schwab is an entrepreneur, engineer, US naval academy graduate, and expert in the art and science of podcast guesting. He is the founder of Interview Valet where he helps thought leaders get featured on leading podcasts that their ideal prospects are already listening to. Then he helps them to turn listeners into customers. Tom is also the author of “PODCAST GUEST PROFITS: Grow Your Business with a Targeted Interview Strategy.”In this episode of the How'd it Happen podcast, Tom shares how he got the idea to start one of the first podcast guest booking services and why his company is unique compared to other agencies. In a world where AI is becoming more widely used in text sources, audio and video are becoming more and more impactful because people know they are really hearing from you. Podcasts are an incredible tool to build that “know, like, and trust” factor that people need to buy from you. The key to being a guest on podcasts is to know the importance of leading with value. Tom explains how to use your knowledge and expertise to provide value to other people's audiences and turn them into customers.Quote from the episode:“What's the goal? What are you trying to do? Because we'll have some people come to us and say they want to get on podcasts. Well, that's not a goal. That's a means to a goal. Tom Schwab suggests overcoming obscurity by tapping into existing audiences through podcast interview marketing, highlighting the importance of being known to potential customers. The conversation delves into the Six P Business Owner Formula, with a specific focus on the Promotion aspect and how Tom contributes to promoting businesses through podcast interview marketing. Tom provides a practical example with a Call to Action, directing listeners to visit Interview Valet's welcome page at InterviewValet.com/Answerman, explaining the three calls to action. This week on the Progressive Agency podcast, I welcome Tom Schwab to the show. He helps thought leaders (coaches, authors, speakers, consultants, and emerging brands) get featured on leading podcasts their ideal prospects are already listening to. During our conversation, Tom shares how having the right conversations with the right person could be life-changing for your life and business. Hear insights about: How guesting on podcasts can help bring your agency out of obscurity Why systems and data are essential pieces of modern marketing How does having a scalable system and platform impact the growth of your agency What are the benefits of hiring within the military spouse network Why forecasting is the most confusing part of business finances Starting Conversations Marketing at its heart is starting a conversation with someone who could be an ideal customer. My guest this week on the Progressive Agency Podcast, Tom Schwab, helps start those conversations. He is the Founder/CEO of Interview Valet, where he helps thought leaders (coaches, authors, speakers, consultants, and emerging brands) get featured on leading podcasts their ideal prospects are already listening to. Scalable Systems Often, agency owners begin their business attempting to “Frankenstein” their systems together to make things work. While this can work in the short term, eventually it can prohibit your ability to grow smoothly. Unfortunately, switching systems can cause a huge mess for many agencies. During our conversation, Tom explains why you should begin your agency using systems and platforms that are scalable. Un-tapped Markets Hiring can be an agency's greatest challenge, especially in today's world. Tom shares his thoughts on how to approach hiring and replacing employees. He explains how he has utilized the un-tapped market of military spouses. Listen to the episode to learn more about how to make the right hiring decisions for your agency. Should you spend time trying to make guest appearances on other people's podcasts? Personally, we love this marketing channel. So, we hooked up with the founder of Interview Valet, Tom Schwab. He shares a ton of valuable insights to help you on your marketing journey. More About Tom: Tom Schwab believes the best things in life come from conversations. It's these powerful, sometimes awkward conversations that propel us from where we are personally and professionally to where we dream of being. As an engineer, a Navy Veteran, and Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator Tom thinks differently “Tough Minded, Skeptical, Sometimes Even Cantankerous, but always technically competent, always thinking -”What if” is how the head of the Nuclear Navy described it. From time to time, we will bring on guests to go deep on a topic in a particular field. Today’s guest is Tom Schwab, founder of Interview Valet. As we celebrate International Podcast Day, we will discuss the power of podcast guesting and why it is a strategic component of legendary marketing today. Connecting with People Tom stresses the importance of podcast guesting, especially for business executives, authors, and entrepreneurs. He believes exposure brings opportunity and podcast guesting is one of the most intimate and targeted ways for customers to know somebody. “I love podcasts because its a way to really connect with people. You’re not yelling, you’re talking with them. They're choosing to listen to you.” - Tom Schwab Mainstream Media vs. Podcasting Tom discusses how powerful podcasting. He says it should be a major part of one’s content strategy. In mainstream media, aside from the cost to advertise (television, print, and radio), one acquires a limited time and limited space, unlike in podcast guesting, where it reaches hundreds of thousands, overtime. “You're tapping into an audience, getting that like and trust, getting introduced by someone,  they already know. The other thing too is, if you do a live speech, it’s really hard to repurpose that content. If you do a podcast interview, you can do the transcript to make blogs.” - Tom Schwab Christopher agrees with Tom, as he speaks based on experience. He mentions how he appears on different mainstream media and only get to share a portion of his thoughts for a few seconds. “Podcast interview is an easy and scalable way to really go deeper. People will understand you and what really drove you, why you got into the business. People should know they could like and trust you. That’s really hard to do in a 30 sec clip or a little Facebook ad.”  - Tom Schwab The Golden Age of Podcasting Tom cites Harvard University and the conference that they organized last year on podcasting. They call this time as the Golden Age of Podcasting and there is never the best time to explore podcast advertising other than at the present time. Christopher also shares that there is a lot of whitespace opportunity in podcasting. He believes that there is a high value for sponsors because podcasts provide a high level of intimacy in terms of getting to know the guests through a conversation. “I think today, brands want to know the heart behind it. Those people that can get out there early and explain that, not in an ad but in an actual conversation. To me, that's where you can really build up a lifetime value of a customer.” - Tom Schwab To hear more about the power of podcast guesting and more relevant information from Tom Schwab, download and listen to the episode. Tom Schwab is an Author, Speaker, Teacher, and Podcast Interview Marketing Pioneer. He knows how to build an online business – he's done it successfully several times, and now helps others find online success with podcast interview marketing. Marketing at its heart is starting a conversation with someone who could be an ideal customer. Tom helps thought leaders (coaches, authors, speakers, consultants, emerging brands) get featured on leading podcasts their ideal prospects are already listening to. The Interview Valet system then helps them to turn listeners into customers. The author of Podcast Guest Profits: Grow Your Business with a Targeted Interview Strategy, Tom is the Founder/CEO of Interview Valet, the category king of Podcast Interview Marketing. During his conversation with us, Tom explains how in this noisy digital world, you can't break through the noise, you just add to it. Instead, you need to get in on the conversation where your ideal customers are already listening. As a Navy veteran who ran nuclear power plants, and an inbound marketing engineer, Tom shares his refreshingly unique approach to podcast interview marketing. He describes his proven system for gaining more traffic, leads, and raving customer fans by being interviewed on targeted podcasts and fills in the missing pieces on why most podcasters aren't generating clients from their interviews. We explore how to get on the right shows, the best way to position your offering, the power of .edu and .gov backlinks, what to include on your landing page in order to convert more listeners to clients, and so much more. Key Takeaways Podcast interview marketing is not revolutionary it's evolutionary. It's taking content and inbound marketing strategies and applying them to a new medium. When contacting podcast hosts, communicate how you are going to help their audience. Don't expect every prospective client to go through the same marketing funnel. Give them 3 calls to action to move them from a passive listener to an active visitor (a small, medium and heck yes). The term ‘trainings' always convert better than ‘webinar'. As a podcast host, you are your best advertiser. Talk about products you use (and set up an affiliate relationship with them) or talk about services that you offer. Podcast hosts like to interview their friends and people they want to be their friends. When getting on shows, your goal is to make the host look like a genius for having you on their show and introducing you to their audience. Don't just send people to a home page because your home page will change with time. Always direct them to a dedicated page which has the podcast host's photo and logo because that's who the listeners are familiar with, along with your 3 calls to action below.
