Got a question, comment, or just want to drop some encouragement? Send us a text. What happens when two loving parents disagree about how to respond to their child's behavior? This deeply personal episode dives into one of the most challenging conflicts couples face—differing parenting approaches.Through the story of Justin and Lori, we examine how bedtime struggles with their six-year-old son leads to couple conflict. Justin believes in firm boundaries and worries about being manipulated, while Lori focuses on understanding what's driving their son's behavior. This scenario leaves both parents feeling misunderstood and judged by their partner.Stephen Mitchell, PhD and Erin Mitchell, MACP unpack the neuroscience of effective parenting—acknowledging a child's experience, attuning to their emotional state, and reflecting/mirroring what we observe—while honestly addressing why this approach can be difficult to implement consistently in real life. Most importantly, they explore how our own childhood experiences create emotional triggers that make these conversations particularly charged. Stephen shares how his resistance stems from not wanting to parent like his father, while Erin reflects on how being raised by a busy single mother shaped her approach to structure and boundaries. The path forward isn't about determining who's right, but understanding what drives our reactions and learning to "parent on purpose" instead of from automatic patterns. By approaching these differences with kindness and curiosity, couples can move from rigid opposition to thoughtful collaboration.Want more resources to help transform your essential relationship conflicts into deeper connection? Our book "Too Tired to Fight" gives you practical tools to navigate the 13 conflicts every couple faces, including parenting differences. You set up an assumption, you have a theory, you analyze your data, and you show that the assumption does not hold. Doing good qualitative research is that simple. Except that it's not, of course. On the ground, in the research and writing process, these basic rules can be quite tricky to implement. So we discuss some heuristics researchers can use to limit their conversants, settle on suitable theoretical lenses to examine their data, and collecting more data than what they thought was necessary.   References Geertz, C. Many of the mamas in the Moms Overcoming Overwhelm Facebook community have shared that they struggle with ADHD, and many have been recently diagnosed. In fact, Epic Research recently reported that the percentage of adult women who were newly diagnosed nearly doubled in the U.S. between 2020 and 2022. ADHD impacts attention, focus, and impulsive behavior, and can make activities like decluttering (that require sustained focus and attention) difficult. On today's episode, productivity expert Alicia Cohen dives into ADHD - what it is, what it isn't, and the productivity tips that will benefit anyone who struggles with sustained focus and attention - even if you don't have ADHD. Alicia Cohen specializes in prioritization and time management. She built her business, Alicia Cohen Designs, based on her own journey of overcoming her overwhelmed and frazzled life -- what she calls the "hamster wheel marathon" -- and now teaches others the methods that she discovered and uses personally. With Alicia's support, busy people learn intentional planning, effective productivity, and high-impact mindset shifts that enable them to transform from constantly feeling behind to designing lives that work and feel good. Alicia is based in the U.S. where she lives with her husband and children. She finds great joy in homeschooling her children and marvels at how blessed she is.   Resources Mentioned: Definition of ADHD that Alicia references from the National Institute of Mental Health Connect with Alicia on her website, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram Snag Alicia's freebie and learn her Top 3 To-Do List Hacks to Get Immediate Results   Related Episodes: Episode 21: Is Your To-Do List Out of Control? Once I removed the physical clutter and calendar clutter that was no longer serving me, I was left with my thoughts. We can't control our thoughts and according to research we have 12,000-16,000 of them a day. But the issue is that 80% are negative and 95% are repetitive - in other words, they are the negative thoughts, limiting beliefs, “shoulds”, and to-do's swirling around in our brain. In today's episode, I'm sharing my simple four-step plan to master your mental clutter, so you can stop feeling scattered and distracted in your life and motherhood. Determined to Dance Podcast

Welcome my friends to season 3 of the Determined to Dance podcast. My prayer is that you'll be encouraged to persevere daily in our chaotic world. Today's episode, Too Tired to Dance, looks at what to do when we're exhausted from dancing. Show Notes: Too Tired to Dance Okay. I admit it. I'm too tired to dance. After all, this is episode 31 of the weekly podcast. I've edited my novel which will release in January. Working hard on book two of the series. And then there's church, kids, caring for Mom, and six grandkids under the age of fifteen. I have a house to clean, yard work, had a garden… Oh. My. I'm too tired to foxtrot. Too weary to do the macarena. And much too pooped to even try a tango. What's a Christian to do when they reach the end of their energy? Jeff Walling shares his thoughts by looking at Elijah. “The prophet was tired—bone tired. With the Almighty's help, he had brought fire from heaven, ended the drought, and nuked the prophets of Baal—it had been a busy day. He had danced with God until his feet ached and his sides burned. But he had also made Queen Jezebel mad enough to lose the little religion she had. In her anger, she had sworn to see Elijah dead, and Jezebel was not a woman of idle threats. So; he did what any sensible man would do: he went to a quiet place and lay down to die. He was through with dancing, praising, and anything else that took more energy than breathing. ‘Stop the music!' he pleaded. ‘I can't dance anymore!' That's not exactly what he said, but it's awfully close: I Kings 19:4: ‘I have had enough, Lord,' he said. ‘Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.'” NIV I'm glad God had given examples in the Bible of people who have felt like I feel. David shows lots of emotions in the Psalms. Jeremiah is sorrowful. Mary ponders things in her heart. Paul wrestled with life and his ministry. And I'm tired. Sure, a lot of my problem is my own fault. Not setting boundaries and listening to God, not even asking Him at times if He wants me to engage in another activity. I'm a helper and it's hard to get off the hamster wheel of drivenness that I've fought against my whole life. But God doesn't leave us without aid. He gives Elijah two reminders in I Kings 19:11-13: “The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.' Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, after the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper…Then a voice said to him, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?'” NIV I've never thought of why God showed all the great, mighty forces before the gentle whisper. Walling hints that God is simply reminding Elijah that God is greater than anything. Especially anything that fights against us. whether it's a true enemy or ourselves. A reminder of God's greatness. Perfect. The second reminder is of our purpose. We can rest but not lay down to die. We can take a few days or weeks or months to regain strength, but not quit altogether. God has a purpose and plan for each of us and if we're still on planet earth he's not done with us yet. I'm going to take more time in the months ahead to rest. To reflect. To enjoy. I hope you do too. Dancing, remember, is not a duty but a joy. We get to whirl and twirl with Father God every day of our time here on earth. And beyond. Let's pray: Father God, I've overdone it again. Haven't taken time to hear your voice and I've overcrowded my life and overwhelmed my soul. Help me to recover. Show me the right way to rest and enjoy You and Your presence. I want to continue to fulfill my purpose on earth and I can't do that when I'm burned out. I lift my hands to You in praise and in worship. You are good beyond measure. In Jesus' name, we pray,

Seeing Abundance, Supporting Women, and Shifting the Narrative. In this episode of The Outspoken Podcast, host Shana Cosgrove talks to Nic Cober, Esq., Principal Managing Partner of CJR and founder of The BOW Collective. Nic describes her journey to and through serial entrepreneurship, from her unexpected first small business venture as owner of a hair salon and day spa to her current role as cofounder of a multi-million dollar legal and consulting firm based in Washington, DC. She talks about the joy she finds in working directly with small businesses and consulting with banks, municipalities, and others to support small-business owners. She shares how her new nonprofit venture, the Black Owner and Women's Collective, came to be and how she got to ring the bell at the NYSE. Nic encourages women to support women-owned businesses and to realize that partnerships are power, and she has ideas for what to read even when you're tired of reading. QUOTES  “What I realized and what I think has been my forever light bulb moment is whatever you had you can have again. Because I had the intellectual property to do it the first time. And so: OK, you've lost that, well, what did you do right? What relationships did you make? How can you repurpose your gifts in order to get it again?” - Nic Cober [13:35]  “I don't see a lot of married CEO women that are able to have tremendous success personally and professionally without a truly supportive person. And when you own a business together, it stands to reason that it works because you both want it to work. You are both aligned. [. . .] We are both alpha personalities, but we do the beta. We do the beta dance.” - Nic Cober [35:16]  “Partnerships are the best key to success. It's people. [. . .] If you don't have a collaborative nature on how you can make your business a win-win and triangulate that, you won't be successful. But if you do, you will always have advocates and allies out there that will come to your aid when you need it the most.” - Nic Cober [46:07]   TIMESTAMPS  [00:04] Intro [01:55] Meet Nic Cober [03:25] From Practicing Law to Owning a Small Business [11:50] From Running a Small Business to Advising Small Business Owners [14:22] Dealing with Adversity, Getting Past Fears [19:25] Consulting with Small Businesses [24:52] Narrowing vs. Broadening Your Business's Appeal [26:40] On Partnerships, Relationships, and Inspiring Parents [33:40] Spouses Who Work Together and Marriages That Work [38:38] The BOW (Black Owner & Women's) Collective [46:07] Partnerships Are the Secret to Success [51:31] On What to Read Even When You're Too Tired to Read [53:40] Women Supporting Women and Women-Owned Businesses [56:04] Outro     RESOURCES https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/504-loans (Small Business Administration 504 Loan Program) https://thecjrgroup.com/ (Cober Johnson Romney (CJR)) https://cjrbuilds.com/ (CJR Development) https://www.wbcollaborative.org/ (Women Business Collaborativ)https://www.thebowcollective.org/ (e) https://enterprisingwomen.com/ (Enterprising Women) https://www.thebowcollective.org/ (The BOW Collective) https://www.wbenc.org/ (WBENC (Women's Business Enterprise National Council)) https://www.ted.com/talks (TED Talks) https://www.linkedin.com/in/harold-w-johnson-ii-b746215 (Harold W. [00:30] Too Tired to Fight? (15 minutes) In an interview yesterday, Laura Ingraham questioned whether the country is so “exhausted” by the constant political battle that “maybe it's time to turn the page if we can get someone who has all Trump's policies, who's not Trump.” Ingraham seems to be tired of fighting and thinks the rest of the U.S. is as well, despite the widespread and vocal support of Donald Trump in the wake of the Mar-a-Lago raid. [15:00] Mar-a-Lago Madness (17 minutes) The dates on the warrant for the Mar-a-Lago raid, released on Friday, show that FBI agents were allowed to seize essentially any presidential document created during the Trump administration. Only a corrupt judge would have approved this outrageously broad warrant against a former president. As part of the broad sweep, the FBI also took Donald Trump's passports and other privileged documents that were outside the scope of the warrant, which now will be returned—something the mainstream media initially denied, without any evidence. [32:45] All Roads Lead to Obama (10 minutes) During an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, Devin Nunes pointed out that the people who were involved in Fast and Furious, Benghazi and other pre-Russiagate scandals are the same ones trying to frame Trump today. Also, Tucker Carlson presented an interesting thought experiment last night: If what has happened to Donald Trump in the last week happened to a former leader in some other nation, wouldn't it be seen as a tyrannical act of crushing political dissent? [42:35] Fight the Spirit of Surrender (9 minutes) Society today is saturated with a pervasive spirit of surrender. Spiritually, we must never get tired of fighting! We must go on the offensive and attack the enemy, or we will be defeated. We can't ever tire of resisting against our adversary the devil; instead, we must continually draw on the power and might of God to keep fighting. As Abraham Lincoln said during the Civil War, “Don't give me excuses; give me victories!” [51:10] E-mail Feedback (4 minutes)

In this podcast we discuss how parents must start with themselves as the primary locus fo their care and compassion. Only from here can we parent effectively, lovingly, and with the energy and enthusiasm to encourage our kids to become the greatest version of themselves.  Dr. Julia Sen is a registered clinical and counselling psychologist with a full-time private practice in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Her practice includes seeing adults individually or as couples for depression, anxiety, grief and loss. Her greatest passion lies in fertility counselling and parenting. Julia has recently published a parenting book called, “Too Tired to Parent? Take the C.A.R.”, which is a step by step guide to becoming self-Caring, self-Aware, and self-Reflective. Julia’s long-term goal is to help parents heal from their own hurts in life, subtle or overt, so we can positively impact our children to become resilient, mindful and contributing people in the world. She believes the path to healing and in turn great parenting begins with understanding that we matter and shifting from having a self-sacrificing mindset to practicing self-care and compassion.  Julia is married, has two teenage daughters and two amazing little dogs she adores!

In this episode, we find out that the X-Men have a monorail, and also, that every member of the team besides Cyclops and Storm is too busy to be bothered with the alien space battle taking place in New York City. Meanwhile, Cyclops is too distracted by his own daddy drama with Corsair to think straight, and for some reason, Storm doesn't push back against any of his bad decisions. Lastly, who is Jandra? Would you like to get lucky? To be a big winner? Because tonight on "Love and Laughter with Beth" we've got Sexy Bedroom Games for you and your lover, and the payouts are terrific! Amazingly the bedroom is the one place where games in which everyone wins are the most fun of all! No matter who you are, you can have fun your way with these games and never get bored. They are simple, easy and portable, suitable for couples of all ages and designed for your pleasure and your convenience. Beth (from Darling Way) knows well how easy it is to fall into a pattern of doing the same bedroom gymnastics, over and over again, and instead of changing things up, to simply do them less and less frequency… because come on, even the best ice cream gets a bit boring if you eat it, and nothing else, day after day after week after month after years… yuck! You can easily get to the point of saying “Enough already! I’m sick of it. I don’t care if I never eat ice cream again!” Of course, as a former divorce lawyer, she also knows that what happens way too often is that along the road, someone finds another ice cream stand with different flavors-- and after years of the same thing, even a lower quality ice cream can taste like heaven just because it’s different… But wait! The good news is, with these Sexy Bedroom Games, and of course, all the other sexy fun things that we’ve talked about on other episodes.  Grab a notepad so you don’t forget these great ideas because, Beth and Bobby Duncan are going to help you create a never ending, rotating, delectable variety of sexy, fun “ flavors and options” that will keep ‘you and your lover’ happily satisfied, curious, excited and... eager for the next serving at home so neither of you gets bored… this way you’ll be so busy enjoying what you’ve got together, that you’ll be too happy and too full to notice or care what others may be offering. And if you are thinking about making excuses about how you are so tired, or busy, or work is too stressful to have any energy left for your relationship, or there is too much to do to just play silly games with your husband or wife, stop right now. Seriously. Think about whether it’s really a better investment of your time and energy to keep a clean house, or keep a happy marriage? Is it more important to you to maintain your body at the gym, or maintain intimacy with your spouse? Do you want to save time and money now so you can spend them with divorce lawyers later? Why do you think your relationship can survive without proper maintainance and attention, but you’ll lose your job if you don’t do it well right now? Listen in so you can play "Better A or B? With this or that?", "The Too Tired to Think Game", "Doctor, Doctor!" (Or "Oh Nurse!"), and then take a trip to your own "Fantasy Island" (for advanced players!). Bonus points for everyone if you and your lover listen together. Let the Games Begin!

We discussed using a WhatsApp group on [Too Tired to Play (episode 17)](https://dwarves.podiant.co/e/35fd4bfdbc4c5e/) ### Hosting (3:55) ### Food! (6:07) Ordering the pizza. In the Purple Orange, Aviv Or was in charge of the food ordering. In Uri's current Pathfinder game, one of the players is in charge of handling the food (either making it or ordering it). ### Recapping (7:30) We talked about this in episode 4 - [Recap](https://dwarves.podiant.co/e/35b5aaeaa2ea42/) ### Knowing the rules (8:10) Someone else can know the rules; the GM just needs to make a rulling. ### Entertaining the players (10:14) The GM is not the entertainer, and the players are not the audience. As a player, Know what you enjoy, make it known to others, and strive for it. Be a good player, use the tips we've reviewed at [Episode 11](https://dwarves.podiant.co/e/35dc2e1458f9c0/) ### Keeper of the sacred timeline (10:20) Remembering past canon. [In Narrative Analysis we differentiate](https://www.cla.purdue.edu/english/theory/narratology/terms/story.html) between story (the actual events in chronological order) and discourse (the way the story is told). So Uri sees it as: the story is everything the GM knows that happened and the discourse is what the players did. ### Keeping The focus on the game (17:40) ### Scene Painting (19:00) Inventing new details about the world. Ask a leading question, “What is strange/unusual/angering/exciting about this X?” You can read about the improv technique [here](http://improvencyclopedia.org/games/Scene_Painting.html). ### Combat management (24:10) Tracking things during combat. Initiative, monster HP, the Escalation Die from [13th Age](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/13th_Age). Playing NPCs during combats. ### Bookkeeping (28:10) Keeping track of loot/monies/XP. ### Chronicling (31:15) Documenting events/NPCs. ### Summary “Be helpful unto one another”. ### Sponsorship (36:05) ### Taking the load off (36:42) Eran - Bennies of eight! [Learn Savage Worlds](http://www.uptofourplayers.com/comic/1-campaign-pitch/) The weekly article was about [NPC vs NPC action, should it be rolled](http://www.uptofourplayers.com/2018/03/npc-npc-action/) Uri - We have a new segment in our website called [“How Uri…”](https://dwarves.podiant.co/how-uri/) where Uri specifies how he does all sorts of things, this week it's all about [How Uri creates customised character tokens](https://dwarves.podiant.co/how-uri-make-customized-tokens/).

Influenced by such greats as Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin, and Candye Kane, she surrounds herself with only the best musicians – which probably is why her band has been nominated as 2018 Artist of the Year by the San Diego Music Awards.   She is joined in the studio by drummer Evan Caleb Yearsley, where they talk with LJ about growing up in musical households, recent successes, the future, and their mysterious connection with Neil Young's latest record.
