It's June, so that means it's time for the AIPT Movies podcast's “Junesis” series! Where we cover movies based on/revolving around video games! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt are joined by artist and friend Chrissy Kurpeski to discuss Edward Furlong's unfortunate run-in with a fictional video game, 1994's Brainscan!A fantastic concept with mixed results! Excessive milk drinking! A lovable musical motif that works no matter how often it's overused! A very non-slashery slasher with a script from the guy who wrote Se7en! Potentially the most oddly “romantic” portrayal of voyeurism since Body Double! An entertaining cast that includes Edward Furlong being himself, a charmingly-sleepy Frank Langella, and T. Ryder Smith as the confusingly-likable gothic punk harbinger of digital doom, The Trickster! A 90s time capsule that examines the demonization of media, the growing obsession with video games, and the early stages of the internet! A movie that's not only a great double feature pairing with 1986's Trick or Treat, but also seems to suggest that violent video games are merely an escape from the true horrors of being a teenager! In addition, Alex shares his spoiler-free thoughts on the newest entry in one of his favorite movie series, Bad Boys: Ride or Die!You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @ActionHarris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can't be found on social media because he doesn't exist. For decades, the video game industry has provided hours of enjoyment for millions of people worldwide. With many competitors wanting a share of the pie, video game companies must constantly innovate to keep competitive. Part of this comes in the form of marketing and selling video games to children. On the surface, this may seem harmless enough. However, notice the number of hours your child spends on the screen. Do they lack sleep, exercise, and socialization? Are they becoming more aggressive? If you answered yes to both of these questions, you're not alone. The video games that our children play are increasingly becoming more addictive and violent. The consequences of these to our young are far-reaching. In this episode, Lt. Col. Dave Grossman shares how the video game industry and the government are turning a blind eye to the effects of violent video games. He talks about why it's problematic to have our children be exposed to these. We also learn how violent video games are connected to sleep deprivation, mass murder, suicide, and more. But not all is lost. Even if we cannot change the industry immediately, we can take control of our family's habits. Lt. Col. Dave shares simple changes we can make to create a big impact, not just in our children's lives but also in our own. Listen to this episode to learn more about the harms of violent video games and how to overcome addiction to them. 3 reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Get informed on the current state of the video game industry and why it's becoming more dangerous. Discover why it's so easy to get addicted to games and our screens. Learn the ways we can overcome addiction and create better habits for our children. Resources Connect with Lt. Col. Ever since video games have been publicly available people have worried they were a “gateway drug” enacting these violent behaviors FOR REAL! Sadly, in the wake of yet another public shooting this summer, games have yet again become whipping boy for political pundits looks for an easy scapegoat. It seems like every week another “groundbreaking … 96- The Moral Panic of Video Game ViolenceRead More »
In the aftermath of mass shootings, debate over why these massacres keep happening — and how to fix them — bubbles up again. And, after the shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, President Donald Trump again pointed to mental illness and violent video games. Politicians singling out video games for inspiring violence isn't new. (Nor is the research debunking this connection .) In the past, however, moral outrage and blame came from both sides of the political aisle. Now, a recent article in The Atlantic argues that the topic has become an increasingly partisan issue.
This week we talk about a fun, new game we came across called Shakedown: Hawaii. It's a 16-bit adventure game similar to the original Grand Theft Auto where you lose a lot of money in your business and have to take back what's yours by any means necessary. Austin also plays the new DLC for Warhammer Vermintide 2 called Winds of Magic. It's a super challenging take on an already difficult game. In our news, we talk yet another accusation that video games cause violence and how rage about the Epic Games Store is getting a bit out of hand. Twitch also launches their own broadcast software, Discord allows live streaming inside voice channels and more developers are making games for Oculus Rift than ever before. In our discussion, we go over a series of stories that has been circulating the web about Borderlands 3. A YouTuber SupMatto allegedly reported some leaks on BL3 and as a result had private investigators sent to his house by 2K Games to stop. They also hit him with some copyright claims which has ultimately shut his channel down for the forseeable future. Blame goes both ways but what do you think about this whole situation?
