Successful change management in oil and gas is dependent on having the right mindset about the change. Many years ago, I was involved in implementing a new computer system for a remote field office. The managers assured us that all they needed to do to guarantee a successful implementation was to order the employees by memo to use the system. Change management? Tick. We dutifully couriered to the field office a laptop with the system installed, which was returned to us a couple of days later, crushed flat and with freshly laid-down tire marks visible on the cover. So much for management's efforts to win over hearts and minds. Change management rarely considers the mindset of those driving change and those expected to embrace change, which inevitably brings conflict to the adoption process. How people show up matters. In this podcast I interview Jeff Perry, a leadership and career expert who helps individuals, teams, and organizations unlock their potential in all facets of life. Given his background in engineering, business, and leadership, he specializes in working with engineering and technical professionals, but the principles he shares are universal. He is the author of the bestselling book, "The Intentional Engineer: A Guide to a Purpose-Driven Life and Career for Engineers and Technical Professionals." Connect with Jeff:

Sometimes, nature education can be 'up close and personal', like a walk in the woods, or picking raspberries.  Sometimes, it's more about paradigm shifts, technology strategies and learning to avoid being manipulated by intellectually dishonest players in our current systems.    In this conversation with author and educator Jeff Share, we talk about some of the fundamental problems around climate change and effective messaging, shifting narratives, and educational leadership that begins in middle and high school with positive success.   Jeff's research and practice focuses on transformative education, preparing K-12 educators to teach critical media literacy for social and environmental justice. The second edition of his book, "Media Literacy is Elementary: Teaching Youth to Critically Read and Create Media" was published in 2015.  Two years later, he co-authored with Richard Beach and Allen Webb, "Teaching Climate Change to Adolescents: Reading, Writing, and Making a Difference." Collaborating with Douglas Kellner (2019) they published, "The Critical Media Literacy Guide: Engaging Media and Transforming Education."  Jeff is a Fulbright Specialist and English Language Specialist for the US State Department who has taught critical media literacy and Environmental Justice in India, Argentina, Mexico, China, and Germany. As the climate crisis continues to unfold in various ways around our world, it is apparent that our children will need MANY skills and tools to assist them in their solutions and work, and I believe there is a tremendous value for all nature educators to network with professionals like Jeff, so we can broaden our scope and be inclusive to the wealth of knowledge that is available. Jeff's life story is a testament to the power of questioning norms and seeking truth as he recounts his time as an exchange student in Germany and the cultural revelations that followed. We wade through the waters of his challenging teenage years, his strong work ethic balancing a business with artistic pursuits, and the profound experience of his wife's battle with cancer that steered him toward documentary filmmaking. Jeff and I touch on personal and often controversial topics, such as vaccine decisions within families and the resultant conflicts. The chapter further explores the complexities of dealing with traditional medical advice when faced with illness and the exploration of alternative treatments. Jeff's insights into the challenges of maintaining parental rights in the face of healthcare systems and government intervention spark a critical conversation on civil liberties. As we converse, we highlight the compelling tales from his film "Flipping the Script: When Parents Fight Back," where the theme of parental authority in medical decisions takes center stage against the backdrop of legal and bureaucratic challenges. Wrapping up our conversation, we look ahead to the potential future post the 2024 election, delving into political fears, the implications of global treaties, and the shifts towards national sovereignty and asset-backed currencies. We also explore the powerful impact of healing from childhood trauma and the significance of reconciling with our past to shape our future selves. In this episode, we discuss negotiating real estate deals and partnerships in a fair and effective manner that protects your interests without being aggressive or bullying. "Are Lee and Dan Cockerell really like that everywhere? That's right, they are." Author and speaker known as Dr. Disneyland, Jeff Barnes, returns to the Jody Mayberry Show to ask me three questions. He hit it out of the park with his questions, including my childhood inspiration to become a park ranger. We also get into some of the experiences I've had with former Disney executives, Lee Cockerel and Dan Cockerell. As a kid I can remember going on family vacations and admiring the hats and uniforms of park rangers. The more I learned about them and their dedication to protecting the parks, I became even more interested in becoming a ranger. In a similar sense, the more I got to know Dan and Lee Cockerell, my understanding and appreciation for the Cockerell legacy grew. Their lessons gave me a unique determination to excel in the new direction of my career. One of my favorite memories with Lee Cockerell came during a recent visit to Hollywood Studios. It was the first time we had gone to a park together after working together for nine years. Lee had never been to Galaxy's Edge before, and it was amazing to experience the ride together. Lee and Dan have been great examples of pursuing new opportunities, while cherishing where you've been and what you've done. For me, that includes the fond memories of the parks and park rangers that ignited my dreams in the first place.   "Every great story requires conflict." Jeff Barnes had an underwhelming first experience at Disneyland. So much so that it sparked his curiosity about why people loved the park so much. His insatiable curiosity led him to research Walt Disney's life and the adversity he faced. It was through this research that Jeff discovered Walt's desire to be remembered as a storyteller and the importance of overcoming adversity in achieving success. This realization drove Jeff to create a course that uses Disney's stories to inspire and motivate students to face their own challenges and achieve their dreams. Jeff's journey took a dramatic turn when he was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor immediately after starting the course. Rather than giving in to fear, Jeff chose to delay surgery and continue teaching the class. Throughout our conversation Jeff shares about the moments of resiliency he had learned from Walt Disney and how that ultimately shaped his success. His experience with the brain tumor gave him the courage to finally write his long-dreamed-of book about Disneyland. Now, as an author, speaker, and blogger, Jeff continues to use Disney's lessons and creativity to inspire and motivate people to embrace adversity and live their best lives. If asked, there's one ability most of us would like to have - the ability to see into the future and prepare for what's to come.  While no one can truly predict the future, we've gotten very good at using data and technology to make educated guesses about what's coming next.  In today's episode of The Greatness Machine, Darius chats with Jeff Booth, an entrepreneur, tech leader, strategic advisor, proud family man, and the author of The Price of Tomorrow: Why Deflation is the Key to an Abundant Future.  Jeff draws on his 20 years of experience at the forefront of technological change to provide an enlightening look at what's to come. You'll discover why the entrepreneurial mindset and understanding your own impact on the world will be key to creating a better future.  You'll learn why technology is a deflationary force, and why the current political and financial system impedes that deflationary effect. You'll also discover some of the challenges facing currencies around the world, such as the inflation/deflation cycle, and the manipulation of global currencies to gain trade advantages.  Topics include: Why it's essential to focus on an entrepreneurial mindset and realize how much your impact in the world matters Why technology is a deflationary force and what the rapid growth of technology means for the future The future of currency, including a true understanding of inflation and deflation, as well as the political realities that affect them  And other topics… Connect with Jeff: Website: https://www.jeffreybooth.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/JeffBooth LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffdbooth/ Connect with Darius: Website: https://therealdarius.com/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dariusmirshahzadeh/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whoompdarius/ YouTube: https://therealdarius.com/youtube Book: The Core Value Equation https://www.amazon.com/Core-Value-Equation-Framework-Limitless/dp/1544506708
