Full episode now on our Patreon. Erik Ellington is an iconic skateboarder who is one of the original members of the Baker Skateboards and Deathwish teams. Ellington, alongside his peers, revolutionized skateboarding with legendary videos like Baker 2G, Baker 3 and The Deathwish Video. These videos presented an unfiltered view of skateboarding at the time with energy that is nearly impossible to replicate. The footage often showed them not just skating, but also fighting, partying, and struggling with the highs and lows of their lives. Ellington has been open about his personal struggles with substance abuse and subsequent sobriety after years of living the lifestyle seen in the videos. His story of positive change and optimism has left deep influence on skateboarders world wide. With involvement in art and design throughout the multiple facets of his life, Ellington was instrumental in developing pro model skate shoes during his time with Emerica and later Supra Footwear. He played a key role in popularizing Baker's classic aesthetic, and as one of Deathwish's creative forces, his vision helped Deathwish become one of the legacy companies within skateboarding. As a natural expression to other interests in his life, he has been designing luxury footwear with Human Recreational Services, as well as working on ‘Ellington', a clothing line which will launch in due time. http://patreon.com/livingproofnewyorkhttp://livingproofnewyork.com

Pierre André Sénizergues grew up in the suburbs of Paris and got hooked on skateboarding at 14. He studied engineering in the early 80's and got a job as an engineer for IBM. He would skate during his lunch breaks at work and knew that he had to follow his passion. In 85 he moved to California to purse his skateboarding dream. From being one of the best skate pro's in Europe winning 12 French titles and 5 European Championships he became homeless and would do skate demos on Venice boardwalk to survive. All that changed when Steve Rocco team manager for Sims Skateboards at the time saw Pierre skate one day and asked him to join the team. Pierre became obsessed with creating a shoe for skateboarders that was durable as well as functional. He teamed up with Rautureau Apple a French fashion shoe manufacturer and starting designing skate shoes with skaters in mind. etnies was born. In 89 Pierre launched etnies in the U.S. and later gained full rights to the brand name worldwide.etnies was growing massively in the mid 90's selling millions of shoes and sponsoring the best skateboarders in the world. With specific team riders in mind he launched additional brands including éS, Emerica, apparel brand Altamont and snowboard brand ThirtyTwo. The company went under the Sole Technology Umbrella. They moved headquarters to Lake Forest, California and now Sole Tech distribute to 70+ countries and are the leading privately-held action sports footwear and apparel company in the world.Tune in to find out how Pierre went from being a pro skater to an entrepreneur, designing shoes, building an action sports community, constructing the biggest skatepark in the world at the time and loads more! • Was unterscheidet einen authentischen Skater vom Trend? Pierre André Senizergues was born and raised in the suburbs of Paris, and back when he was 15 years old he fell in love with skateboarding. So much so that he wanted to pursue his dream of becoming a professional skateboarder and moved to the skateboarding mecca at the time, Los Angeles to follow his dreams. His path wasn't easy, as he got to LA, he found himself struggling to get recognition from the skate community and ended up being homeless for a while. He finally managed to get his foot in the skate scene and partake in freestyle competitions which he many won (nine European Cup Titles, five European Championships, two World Cup titles and one World Championship). Pierre then wanted to combine two things he loved, design and skateboarding, so he joined etnies, eventually buying the company. Later he added Emerica, éS and ThirtyTwo to the Sole Technology family. Pierre is still to this date heavily involved in the skate scene, in designing the shoes and giving back to the community. etnies has two amazing charity projects, one being 'Buy a shoe donate a shoe' which gives back to the homeless community and 'Buy a shoe plant a tree', which has planted 2 million trees to date.Whilst we have your attention, be sure to sign up to our daily MenswearStyle newsletter here.
