In the aftermath of multiple disasters in the US, Stacy Martin, the editor of Redbook Magazine said, “Although the national mood is somber right now, I take it in stride as a reminder of the true nature of life: It's a heady, scary, wonderful, sad, happy mix. Take each moment of each day and live it not as if it's your last- but as if it's your first, your best, and your only day.” That is so beautiful. And great advice. In the Bible, Proverbs 27, verse 1 it says “Don't boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” I hope this doesn't sound dark- but tomorrow is never promised. So live your life and live it well. Make today count!

Jason Hartman talks with Franz Wisner, a reformed cubicle worker and the author of Honeymoon With My Brother, the true story of how Franz was left at the altar, then decided to take a two-year, 53-country honeymoon with his younger brother, Kurt. The best-selling memoir is currently being made into a movie by Sony Pictures. In addition, Franz has penned numerous articles and opinion pieces for The San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, Redbook Magazine, and Coast Magazine, among others. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Tracy Middendorf Wisner, and their children/future backpackers, Calvin and Oscar. In 1999, he was dumped at the altar, just days before his scheduled wedding. The guests were en-route, the food and wine were on location, and the whole party was pre-paid. So he chose to have a weekend wedding bash anyway... just without a bride. He then decided to go on the planned two-week honeymoon to Costa Rica, substituting his brother Kurt for the Runaway Bride. They had such a good time exploring the country and reconnecting as siblings that they opted to extend the festivities for two years and fifty-three countries in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, South America and Africa. Throughout the "honeymoon," he penned a series of emails to family and friends about the quirks and oddities of travel. Until then he'd written for others (PR clients or politicians) but never for himself. Some of the essays made their way into newspapers and magazines thanks to a few encouraging friends in the media.  If you're interested in becoming a travel writer, this is your show!   Follow Jason on TWITTER, INSTAGRAM & LINKEDIN Twitter.com/JasonHartmanROI Instagram.com/jasonhartman1/ Linkedin.com/in/jasonhartmaninvestor/ Call our Investment Counselors at: 1-800-HARTMAN (US) or visit: https://www.jasonhartman.com/ Free Class:  Easily get up to $250,000 in funding for real estate, business or anything else: http://JasonHartman.com/Fund CYA Protect Your Assets, Save Taxes & Estate Planning: http://JasonHartman.com/Protect Get wholesale real estate deals for investment or build a great business – Free Course: https://www.jasonhartman.com/deals Special Offer from Ron LeGrand: https://JasonHartman.com/Ron Free Mini-Book on Pandemic Investing: https://www.PandemicInvesting.com

Stefanie Marrone is a consultant for law firms of all sizes as well as B2C and B2B companies. She brings almost 20 years of legal marketing experience to the table, working for notable firms such as Sullivan & Cromwell and Morrison & Foerster over the years. Before she switched over to full-time consulting, her last position was the Director of Business Development and Marketing at Tarter Krinsky & Drogin LLP. Stefanie has also spent much of her career as a prolific writer, getting her start as an Assistant Articles Editor at Redbook Magazine. She continues to write for her popular blog, The Social Media Butterfly, where she talks about issues facing lawyers and legal marketers today. In this episode: How important is your presence on LinkedIn? For many law firms, social media is not a priority. Other forms of marketing receive all of the attention while their LinkedIn profiles fall to the wayside. Some law firms can do well without it, but many are struggling to find ground. A strong social media presence can not only make your firm more approachable, but it can open new demographics that were once inaccessible. It's a Swiss Army knife of a marketing tool that is too often ignored. If done right, your LinkedIn output can transform your law firm. This is the approach of Stefanie Marrone, a legal marketing consultant who knows how to get results. Want to find out more? Michelle Calcote King hosts Stefanie Marrone to find out her approach to improving your law firm's LinkedIn profile. Together they go over the full process, from how often you should post to creating multimedia content to LinkedIn groups and more. Stefanie goes into detail on her story and how she found success on her own LinkedIn page. They even find time to discuss the specific content that performs well on the website. “I got to a place where I was just sick and tired of being sick and tired. I'm looking at all these people curate their lives on social media and their everyday lives. It started off as a thought. It started off like a blank canvas and that's what I looked at myself as.” - Latoya Shauntay Snell Throughout life, Latoya Shauntay Snell had to overcome adversity. Growing up in Brooklyn during the crack epidemic, Latoya watched as her dad struggled with drug addiction. While the experience made life difficult for Latoya and her family, it exposed her to the many facets of human life. Latoya's dad was also a huge inspiration and exposed her to various creative outlets like arts and music. These forms of expression would become the foundation for Latoya's calling as an advocate for body positivity and inclusivity as a multi-sport athlete. Latoya also had to overcome physical adversity; in 2013, Latoya graduated culinary school and, just as she was starting her career, she was diagnosed with disc degeneration and sciatica. The diagnosis kickstarted Latoya's weight-loss journey and she lost 100-pounds in the first year. While Latoya received positive feedback on her transformation, she was not expecting the negative comments from people who accused her of abusing drugs and being “too skinny” The experience sparked Latoya to advocate for body positivity and exposed the phrase “body politics” where marketing tends to showcase just one dimension of a person's physical appearance, race, or physical disability. Latoya's advocacy work would take on a life of its own four years later when she when a spectator heckled her about her weight in the 2017 NYC Marathon. Latoya wrote about the experience in her blog and soon after was invited to be interviewed by Redbook Magazine. Latoya's online presence exploded when The Root, a well-known African American-oriented online magazine, picked-up her story and invited her to become a contributing writer. Latoya now uses her platform to educate others on body positivity, body politics, and several other causes. We're so grateful for the opportunity to chat with Latoya and it's clear in this episode how captivated we were by her storytelling and positive outlook on life! I cannot wait for you to listen to today’s episode! This conversation is all about our relationship with money. My guest is Bari Tessler. She is an expert who truly understands the impact that money has on our life.  Bari has spent 18 years guiding thousands of people toward a happier, refreshing and more empowered relationship with money. She is also a somatic psychotherapist and it was when she was working as a therapist and had to teach herself bookkeeping that she realized there was a big gap in education and understanding around money. We talk about Bari’s personal experiences with loss and how she got started as a financial therapist. Bari walks us through the 3 phases of developing a relationship to money and talks specifically about how to approach that relationship during times of big transition and loss.   “In any transition, it’s really helpful to give yourself time and to acknowledge that things are different. Please also remember that it isn’t forever.” ~ Bari Tessler   If you’re like me, money is not your strength and not a skill, this is the episode for you.  I hope you will light a candle, eat some dark chocolate and make your brand new money map! My guest this week is Liz Bohannon, the CEO and founder of Sseko Designs, a fair trade, socially conscious fashion brand that is providing dignified jobs in developing nations around the world. Sseko Designs also gives university scholarships to the brightest, young female leaders in East Africa. This is actually Liz’s second time on the show! You can hear our first conversation all the way back at episode #28 in March of 2017! Over the years, Liz and I have become dear friends and it was so great having her back on the show! Join me to hear about Sseko Designs, Liz’s first book Beginners Pluck, and how Liz has lived a life of purpose, passion, and impact.    4:53 – The Liz 201 (A Business Model Change) Liz has been running her ethical fashion brand, Sseko Designs for ten years. Three years ago, the organization experienced a fundamental shift as a company when they decided to shut down their wholesale channel. They knew they were creating change for women all over the world with fair wages, education, and strong communities, but recognized that they were not fostering the same community on the retail side of their business yet. When Sseko started 10 years ago, the term “social enterprise” didn’t exist. Sseko started to wonder if they could take the “business of good” and put it into the hands of regular, everyday consumers. They launched Sseko Fellows, a social selling model to put products in the hands of women to sell Sseko products. It was a very small-scale beginning, but taught Sseko how to build a better model for women to earn a legitimate income. Liz knew that there were more women who also wanted to dream big to help women who also want to build their own businesses. Sseko Fellows evolved into a social enterprise with teams that create full-time, fair-waged jobs for a year for artisans across the globe as well as university scholarships for the brightest female scholars in East Africa. When people are provided dignified, fair-wage opportunity, they are far less likely to be trafficked into an illegal labor market. Often those who fall victim to these crimes are answering fake job ads, desperate to get out of poverty and unaware that it’s a trap until it’s too late. When basic needs are met through safe jobs, the cycle of evil and abuse can be stopped. 15:49 – A Woman Connected to Her Purpose While there are so many volunteer and non-profit causes that help make the world better, Liz and her team also recognized that women have more time and energy to contribute without burning out when they are equipped with a competitive salary and business resources. If the way a woman contributes to her passion and purpose also generates an income, you free her to focus on social change work while making sure her childcare needs, bills, mortgage payments, car payments, groceries, etc. are not going to be a burden.  Something really magical happens when we know that there are others who want to show up and cheer for us. That is the atmosphere Sseko strives to create. When people, particularly women, start new endeavors, the world often sits and waits for them to fail. Sseko women are encouraged to dream big with support from a like-minded sisterhood that helps set them up for success!  In the last few years, the Sseko community both in the United States Fellows Program and the Scholarship and Business programs in Africa have fostered a global family of women supporting women and championing each other through community, not competition. If you don’t find community and make an impact, Sseko will fully refund your starter kit investment, which is only $150 for $400 worth of product. Working with Sseko not only brings financial freedom, enjoyable work, and finding a purpose, but the most common response from Sseko women about what they get out of the program is that they’ve found genuine female friendships to help in hard times and celebrate in the good. 29:48 – Become a Sseko Fellow If you are interested in learning more, you too can join me as a Sseko Fellow! All you have to do is go to https://ssekodesigns.com/mollystillman and click the “Join Now” link at the top menu bar! 32:05 – Fun Bonus: You should probably all check out Liz’s cooking show with her two-year-old son, Theo on Instagram (@lizbohannon) 33:05 - Beginner's Pluck: Build Your Life of Purpose and Impact Now Liz just wrote her first book called Beginner’s Pluck. I read it in a day and a half. It’s not your typical book on business, it’s much better. This is the book you’ll want to help you truly grow right where you are rather than just hearing feel good mantras. Finding your passion isn’t a magical, one-time moment. Your life matters and you can make a difference, but it doesn’t just happen naturally for anyone. Liz shares new ways of thinking about things that leaves people relieved and removes the pressure around achievement and shifts it to waking up to one’s own voice. It’s a model of tapping into people’s lives and meaning rather than their fears and emotions for short-term bursts of engagement. We can combine our faith with action and work. When you put in the work, God will bless that work. It applies to goal setting and risk taking as well. Complacency and fear-driven desires for safety to keep from looking ridiculous or taking risks that are too big removes the opportunity for God to show up and do things we couldn’t dream up on our own. If we’re always playing it safe and our primary concern is survival, we limit our potential. If you spend all your time dodging failure, you’ll never chase after the “what if” dreams. Don’t forget that failure is a necessary and unavoidable process. That experience leads you to the moment when your dream finally “clicks.” If you’re stuck in overwhelm, this book is for you. Your dream is within your grasp right where you are, whether in the good or the messy. Liz has hopes that leaders will subscribe to this way of thinking to help their teams, employees, clients, etc. There is even a prison using Beginner’s Pluck to turn lives around! You’ve got to start. Even if it’s an ugly start. You don’t get to evolve until you put yourself out there for the first time. An immature and over-inflated sense of ego happens we think we’ll automatically be successful right out of the gate. 55:55 - Getting To Know Our Guest Find out what stunt Liz pulled off after her talk at the Global Leader’s Summit. At 1:07:52 to learn walk Liz would choose as her “walk up song,” what she thinks we’ll be nostalgic for in forty years, her favorite lipstick color right now (because it’s so much fun) and of course, what it means to Liz to run a business with purpose. Memorable Quotes: 15:51 - “A woman on a mission who is connected to her purpose, who is connected to her passion, can literally change the world.” 28:22 “We are going to be a community of women who are collectively ambitious. You do not have to worry about too much or dreaming too big. You get to be surrounded by people who say: ‘This is how I can support you.’ “ 38:03 - “Once you have peace and an understanding of what it actually looks like to build a life of purpose, passion, and impact, that actually propels you forward.” 55:14 – “Me messing up doesn’t mean I’m broken; it doesn’t mean I’m not the right person for the job. It means that I’m trying to do something that is difficult.” “You only have the opportunity to fail when you choose to do something that is a little bit out of your reach.” “We started to wonder if Sseko could be a company that pioneers this idea of democratizing social entrepreneurship and business for good.” Connect with Sseko Designs: https://www.instagram.com/ssekodesigns/ https://ssekodesigns.com/mollystillman https://www.facebook.com/ssekodesigns http://www.instagram.com/lizbohannon About Liz: Liz Forkin Bohannon is the founder of Sseko Designs and the author the book Beginner’s Pluck: Build your life of purpose, passion and impact now. Sseko Designs is an ethical fashion brand that works to educate and empower women. By providing employment and educational opportunities, Sseko enables women to continue their education and become leaders in their country. Liz graduated from the University of Missouri with a Master’s degree in Journalism. In 2008, she moved to Uganda where she met an incredible group of talented young women who were struggling to finance their higher education. After traveling the country by motorcycle to find raw materials and learn how to produce footwear by hand, Liz hired three young women and started Sseko Designs. Since then, Sseko Designs has grown from three women making sandals together under a mango tree, to an international fashion brand that provides employment, educational opportunities and entrepreneurial training to hundreds of women in East Africa and across the globe. Using her unlikely story of a journalist-gone-shoe-maker, Liz shares her passion for social enterprise, conscious consumerism, social justice, creative leadership and gender-equality. Liz and the Sseko story has been featured in dozens of publications including: Vogue Magazine, Redbook Magazine, O Magazine, Inc, Fortune and others. Sseko has appeared on national broadcasts including ABC’s Shark Tank and Good Morning America. Among other notable honors, Liz was recently named a top three Transformation Leader by John Maxwell and Bloomberg Businessweek named Sseko as a top social enterprise. Forbes named Liz one of the top 20 public speakers in the U.S. Liz’s powerful, disarmingly authentic and witty voice captivates and inspires her audience. She now splits her time between Uganda and Portland, Oregon, where she and her husband Ben run Sseko Designs and raise their two young sons. You must drill down far to know this Vulnerable -- Look at Brene Brown.  A "truth teller." Shoshin - An openness with eagerness.  Have to have both. Why is the "Beginner's Pluck" message resonating with so many people? "I believe it, but not sure if I really do..." People (women especially) tend to doubt themselves too much. "You don't need to be extraordinary to build a life making a difference." "Passion is something you build... I learned it through telling an untrue story." Be driven by interest, and curiosity... "I'm the CEO of a for-profit fashion company." "My ego wasn't super involved.  It gave me the freedom to just do it." "I got so obsessed with the problem and finding a solution to it." "The work of an artist is to know what's inside of you.  Be solutions agnostic." "The artist creates without thinking of the audience." "The entrepreneur has to think of the audience." -->  What's the actual problem this fixes? Sit in the complexity of what it means to be a world changer. "We live in a world that is so quick to critique... Show up, do the work." How did Liz learn to run a business? She took a six week crash course on basic accounting and followed her curiosity to learn each skill as she went. Don't be caught in analysis paralysis "The thing I had connected to me was my WHY." "You don't get to know Step 7 when you're in stage 1.  That's not how it works."  Must take it a step at a time. "What do I absolutely need to figure out? Lyn talks to Amanda Rose, the founder and CEO of the Dating Boutique and Prestige Connections, about her unique vision for dating and matchmaking - by focusing on people and not profiles. Amanda has channelled her own experiences of heartbreak and dating into creating a matchmaking service that encompasses connections, makeovers, courses, coaching and events that all combine to ensure that each client discovers their own personal path to love and lasting happiness. KEY TAKEAWAYS After dealing with heartbreak in her own personal life, Amanda came to realise that many online dating websites weren’t making the most of their clients, or really helping them to achieve their full potential. Amanda believes that unless we invest time in becoming the best version of ourselves first, it can lead to poor decisions and choices when trying to attract a new partner. Self-improvement leads to more confidence and positivity, which is always more attractive to others. Sometimes we are led to believe that having a partner will somehow make us whole when in reality we need to be happy enough on our own and to feel whole already. A partner is, as Lyn says, “just the icing on the cake”. Flirting can be different for everyone depending on their personality type. One should always be mindful of body language, which is a huge part of the flirting process. If you’re having a conversation, it can be good to turn towards them and have your arms open, the act of which signals that you are inviting them into your space. Sometimes a man can be put off from approaching a woman they find attractive, if that woman is part of a larger group. Amanda encourages the practice of dating yourself. Take yourself out for dinner, or go out for a glass of wine. You are far more likely to be approached in that situation. A hugely important factor in successful dating is to endeavour to enter into each new relationship with as little baggage as possible. By allowing ourselves to carry the baggage of past mistakes and experiences we diminish the chances of successfully forging lasting new connections. When you go out on a date, have the intention of focusing on what is great about the person instead of what is wrong.. BEST MOMENTS ‘I turned my heartbreak into my business’ ‘My heartbreak and divorce turned into the most amazing blessing’ ‘Like attracts like’ ‘It has a ripple effect, when you take care of yourself’ ‘Flirting is not always the traditional “batting your eyes” or giggling at what someone says!’ ‘Sometimes men are just as scared as you are. +Become a contributing member of the podcast +   Money is one of those topics that, uuuuuuuuugh can bring up so many things - full spectrum. For me - guilt, shame, not good enough, contraction, avoidance, and guilt. It’s different for each person. One thing is for sure though, we definitely don’t like to talk about it in this culture. We also don’t provide basic education on how to work with it well. It’s personally one my main healing entry points, and one that is so essential to address if you are going to be engaged in life and not meditating in a cave 24/7.   Over the years I’ve made my way through a variety of approaches to working with money - both spiritual and uber practical, and they seem to miss the full picture. It wasn’t until I came across Bari’s very somatic based money teachings that things started to shift. Bari pieces together all the different layers together in way a that is incredibly nurturing, direct, and effective. In this first episode of season 2 Bari shares some crazy helpful tools and illuminating stories on how we can heal our relationship to money, develop healthy money practices, and find our way to financial happiness.   "Fear, anxiety, anger, sadness, checking out, joy, guilt, excitement - all the emotions that come up in any other big area of life will come up with money too. They are all welcome. They are all part of the terrain."   We discussed: How Bari’s daunting student loan surprisingly propelled her out of her somatic therapy practice into conscious bookkeeping and later money therapy The power of basic financial education - and how the lack of it affects everyone Why we need to address the psychological, spiritual, and practical levels when working with money Money shame - how it shows up and the initial antidote to unravel it The key of the body check-in for any money moments Money Dates - how to set yourself up well Why you need to look at your numbers and identify your money values The inner money judge voice The money differences that can arise with couples Tips for having those tough money conversations and plans with your partner The Art of Money for Financial Happiness Resources: Website: http://baritessler.com/ Instagram: @baritessler The Art of Money School: http://baritessler.com/art-of-money/   About Bari: Bari Tessler Linden, M.A., is a Financial Therapist, Mentor Coach, Mama-preneur, and the Founder of The Art of Money. We dive deeply into the topic of being an "under-earner," and how to break the cycle of over-giving / under-receiving. How important it is to create healthy boundaries and to practice saying "no" more often. Most of us were not taught how to have a relationship to money … We’re learning it as adults. It needs to be done in baby steps. There’s lots of learning curves. We need to be loving, gentle and compassionate around it.  – Bari Tessler On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I’m so excited on many levels to talk with Bari Tessler about money and mindset. Her approach to money is really similar to the way I approach food and health. Bari trained as a psychotherapist and brings that framework to her money methodology. We talk about bringug attention and awareness and compassion to all the big areas of life that are challenging or that we have shame around—including our relationship to money. I love that she does so much work with healing to start our money work. She recognizes that most of us are never taught to have a relationship with money or how to have conversations about money. As we learn these things as adults, we need to baby steps and accept the learning curve. And we need to be loving, gentle and compassionate to ourselves around money and this learning process. We talk about: The first step to change being awareness, getting curious, gathering data, whether it’s money or food or some other change we need to make, and how to use a body check in to gain awareness as an antidote to money shame. Tapping into our personal money story—what we got from our parents, from religion, from other aspects of our lives Staying with big emotions so that we can work through them (because they will keep coming up) Focusing on your values as you do money work and even aligning your bookkeeping with your values + the dance couples do to align their values and spending patterns Creating a money map that includes basic needs, comfortable lifestyle, ultimate or  needs, wants, desires The concept of a money date and how to make them enjoyable BIO Bari Tessler Linden, M.A., is a Financial Therapist, Mentor Coach and Mama-preneur. She has guided thousands of people to new, empowered, and refreshingly honest relationships with money through her nurturing, body-centered approach. Her methodology weaves together personal, couple, and creative entrepreneurial money teachings into one complete tapestry. Bari is also the author of The Art of Money: A Life-Changing Guide to Financial Happiness, published by Parallax Press. LINKS BariTessler.com The Art of Money The Four Phases of Money with Your Honey   Doable Changes from this episode: DO A BODY CHECK IN. Check in on a few levels. On a physical level, what are you noticing? On a sensation level, what are you noticing? On an emotional level, what are the emotions that are present? On a breathing level, how deep, how shallow, where in your body? This only takes a minute. Try it anytime you are interacting with money this week, like when you have money conversations with your spouse, when you are looking at your  balances or paying your bills, when you’re at about to purchase something. PLAN A MONEY DATE. Start with 20 minutes with your partner. You each get 10 minutes to talk and 10 minutes to listen deeply. Share your money stories. To do this, answer questions like: What is your mother’s relationship with money? How is yours the same, or different? What is your father’s relationship with money? How is yours the same, or different? How did your ethnicity, religion, or spirituality impact your relationship with money? What was your money role in the family, especially if you have siblings? (spender, saver, combo, etc.) IDENTIFY YOUR VALUES. Bari talks a lot about identifying your values and mapping your money around that. Start by noticing what’s important to you and the spending you do related to that. Ask your partner to share their values and how they want to spend. You will likely be very different, but understanding the other person’s values can start to smooth out tension around spending.

Food is considered by some - and for some - to be a "keystone habit." Coined by Charles Duhigg, a keystone habit is a habit that leads to the development of other good habits. Getting 8 hours of sleep per night, for instance, is a keystone habit.  For many, organizing our food (and, I would add, solving for addictive behaviors around food) is also a keystone habit.  When we begin to clean up our food, we may notice ourselves waking up to other parts of our life that we feel ready to clean up. One of the biggies that can come up here is, you guessed it - Money.  Bari Tessler is a pioneer of her unique style of money work, which brings her background in somatic psychology (body psychology) into the financial picture by leading her students to do their emotional money work first, before they dive in to organizing the numbers.  Concepts like forgiveness, completions, ritual, and money stories play a big part in Bari's approach to money work. In my opinion, her integrative approach is what makes her courses, podcasts, blogs, and other offerings, so effective.  In this episode, I interview Bari about:  Her own history and relationship with food Parallels between food work and money work  Her favorite, astonishingly simple tool for greater money awareness What are money practices? And how are they an act of self-care?   Moving from secrecy to transparency in our money lives  The first two steps for moving from disempowerment to empowerment around money Bari's gentle and effective approach is perfect for anyone who ever feels overwhelmed by the vast subject of money.  Here's her official bio:  Bari Tessler Linden, M.A., is a Financial Therapist, Mentor Coach, Mama-preneur, and the Founder of The Art of Money. Dishing with Delishes Podcast | Interviewing Food Bloggers | Help Food Bloggers Grow Their Business | Learn From Others Succe

Growing up, the meals Emilie Raffa's family enjoyed were centered around fresh ingredients and little to no processed food. They bought local. Cooked from scratch. Ate good bread with every meal. The Clever Carrot is a blog about finding balance in what you eat and how you cook. And if there’s a way to make your life easier, Emilie has found (and shares) the shortcut! In 2006, Emilie graduated from the International Culinary Center (formerly known as the French Culinary Institute) where she earned a degree in Classic Culinary Arts. She loved every minute of culinary school and writes, she "could’ve stayed there forever! It was an incredible experience." After graduation, Emilie went on to work as a private chef, recipe developer, food stylist, and behind the scenes on cooking shows. Eventually, she became curious about blogging and photography. Since starting The Clever Carrot, Emilie's work has been featured in Oprah Magazine, Redbook Magazine, Clean Eating, Women’s Health Magazine, The Huffington Post, Food 52, Saveur, Food & Wine, Today Food, and in the pages of Artful Blogging Magazine. She was a finalist for ‘Best Food Photography’ in the annual the Saveur Blog Awards and she contributes to the digital cooking publication, feedfeed. Emilie considers herself fortunate to be a published author. She has written two cookbooks: The Clever Cookbook and Artisan Sourdough Made Simple. On a personal note, Emilie lives on Long Island with her husband and their two little boys. They have a little garden, lots of backyard animals, a fig tree, and love spending time in nature. Emilie is inspired by everything. She tends to create recipes based on her Mediterranean background, her family's recipes, and her travels. Even her cat. And if you ask what’s in her shopping cart, it’s filled to the brim with olive oil, lemon, fresh herbs, and good bread (possibly a child, too!).

When you think of Body Kindness do you think of money too? I didn’t always make the connection, but I realized that how money moves through your life is an expression of your values and beliefs about yourself. “You have unique experiences with each one of your children. I think that working to cultivate happiness in your home, even though you could be going through hard things . . . really pays off.  What you think about transcends, and it impacts your everyday life.”   Nicole Kalkowski has had to fight for her son throughout his entire life.  From a toddler diagnosed with regressive autism then immediately after with a myriad of diseases, including mitochondria and epilepsy, Nicole has relied on her intuition and resilience to get doctors to hear her and to help her son.  She has literally kept him alive.   Redbook Magazine covered the Kalkowski family for an entire year, documenting what it was like to have a then-three-year old son with autism.  (A beautiful picture from the feature is below, with article links in the show notes.) Nicole later became an advocate and got amazing legislation passed that will ensure other parents don't have to face the darkness helplessly, as her family had.     Ryan (now almost a teen!) requires round-the-clock care.  Nicole, with her husband and three other children, have adopted the phrase "Roll with it!" when life presents new challenges or interruptions  to each day.  That decision to let go is repeated often in Nicole's story, as she learned to rely on others, on God, and to search for happiness wherever possible.  And Nicole sees it everywhere.   You'll be inspired by this mother's resilience, how she knows who Ryan is at his core, and how she can say she is now grateful for the dark times she and her family have faced.   Show Notes: Redbook articles on Kalkowski family: here, here, here, and here Last week's interview with Briana Johnson SURVEY!!!! (It takes less than a minute to fill out--thank you!) The best-selling memoir is currently being made into a movie by Sony Pictures. They had such a good time exploring the country and reconnecting as siblings that they opted to extend the festivities for two years and fifty-three countries in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, South America and Africa.Throughout the "honeymoon," he penned a series of emails to family and friends about the quirks and oddities of travel. Until then he'd written for others (PR clients or politicians) but never for himself. Some of the essays made their way into newspapers and magazines thanks to a few encouraging friends in the media.  If you're interested in becoming a travel writer, this is your show!
