Henri Ghijben of HRG Tree surgeons has been mentoring other tree surgeon businesses through the Tree Surgeon's mastermind since the start of 2022.Keynote speaker for the Arb Show of 2022 he tells the Horticulture Week Podcast about how tree surgeons and arb contractors can benefit from sharpening their business skills.Drawing on his own experiences, he offers his "blueprint to my tree surgery business" based on 'Five Pillars of a successful arb business':MindsetSales and marketingNumbersSystemisationCultureAfter working for other companies but not enjoying it, he set up own business, but after 4 years of rapid growth the company went under. The realisation that there was very little advice to help the unique challenges faced by arboriculture businesses inspired him to pass on his learning to others in the profession.Henri believes a lot of arborists "get stuck" doing all aspects of running the business but need to learn to "build a team" around them where people work to their strengths.Arborists have to contend with the requirement for extensive training, versus the "low bar to entry into the industry - anybody can buy a van a chipper and a saw from B&Q" and competition with other trades such as construction or even working in McDonalds. He discusses the issue of poor pay in the sector and how "there needs to be more education" of the public of the skills and need for qualified arborists to do the work. But he says: "Knowing your numbers, so knowing what it costs to run your business, knowing what profit to make on top if it, knowing your quote conversion rate...once you have all this data it gives you the confidence to be able to go, 'ok I can put my prices up now'"Henri speaks about the ways he tries to attract and retain staff by making his company "a good place to work with various financial and other benefits such as mental health packages, something that he values especially having suffered his own fair share of professional hardship. He highlights pest and disease pressures, particularly ash dieback and oak processionary moth which is making its way down south east, through London to Southampton where Henri is based. He also discusses the online problems of climate change and extreme heat and storms. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

While walking through the forest I took note of the tree limbs drooping. Research shows that this is a sign of tree stress. As a human you want to do all you can to help relieve the pain from the tree. Arborists say to put tree bark and or mulch at the base. To give it nutrients. Having a relationship with a forest means communication. The type that most prefer to tune out. Until their personal lives become stressed and their limbs begin to droop. What's missing from your within that can't seem to be found? What would serve as the best nutrients? Nature hold's so many answers. We're guilty of allowing the loudest to step within. Or we've become persistent in making sure we're in total control of what's allowed. Sadly, that invites the perfectionist. Take walks. Learn to allow the outside atmosphere speak directly into you. Seems kind of odd to experience until you realize there's more of you out there then physically inside of you. Grow forward.

At the intersection of power tools and creativity, John Mahoney found his niche – turning otherwise forgotten urban green waste into dazzling works of art. Born into a family of tree workers, arborists, and creatives, it was no mystery that Big John would find himself carving his own legacy into the Urban Forest just as his dad did before him. When he began chainsaw carving at the age of 22, John witnessed the emotional connection people had to his wood art pieces that could have otherwise so easily become mulch or firewood. Covered in sawdust and immersed in the competitive beard world, John found himself at a crossroads between one-off artistic ventures and a desire for a greater purpose. He found himself itching to raise awareness for the importance and value of urban trees as a precious bioresource, from their carbon-capturing capabilities to their unique, unrivaled beauty. This practice has turned into a mission of salvaged wood stewardship. Today he oversees Street Tree Revival, an Urban Wood Recycling program founded by West Coast Arborists, Inc. (WCA, Inc.) California's leading tree maintenance and management company for communities who care about trees. His primary purpose is creating quality, one-of-a-kind lumber while making a lasting positive impact on our environment. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/plantatrilliontrees/support

Mother, Author, Researcher ‘What is happening behind the curtain?' The UN Agendas, the World Economic Forum - Your Future? Giving a wider understanding of the issues facing us today, both in NZ and globally. Worth your while to listen to the whole interview. Author of ‘We are Revolting' and her new book just out ‘Under the Shadow', Antoinette lays the groundwork of her research as to what is happening on a global scale. She says she is a big picture person.  The fact that over the years, our NZ Governments, both left and right have signed us on to the United Nations Agenda21 and Agenda23 that have slipped through without there being a public discourse or debate and education of ‘we the people' as to what does this all translate into. Why the silence and why have our elected representatives not mentioned this to their constituents? Especially as this all started back in 1992. Then there is the question of what's the game plan being acted out under cover of the Covid crisis? Where and where does the World Economic Forum from Davos in Switzerland put the ‘Great Reset' in place. Where the cashless society comes into being, that by 2030 ‘we will own nothing and we will be happy' - how about - full of Joy!  Note, that both our Prime Minister and our Deputy Prime Minister have attended the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. Yet a quietened NZ MSM, ‘soothed with ample funding' from our Government discreetly looks the other way.    This is what happened - the Fourth Estate (your Media) have remained silent and tight lipped.  www.AntoinetteJames.com   With a new book just out: UNDER THE SHADOW: Agenda 21 in New Zealand New Zealand National and Labour governments have collaborated in binding the country to UN goals. National Prime Minister Jim Bolger signed Agenda 21 in 1992, without democratic debate! Labour Prime Minister Helen Clark rolled-out NCEA underpinned with UN Common Core Curriculum goals in the early 2000s, without democratic debate! National Prime Minister John Key signed Agenda 2030 in 2015, without democratic debate! Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern authored New Zealand's first Voluntary National Review 2019: An audit of the country's progress and commitment to UN 2030 dictatorship, without democratic debate! Every New Zealander's life is going to change for the worse. UNDER THE SHADOW is a 314-page exposé of Agenda 21/2030 outcomes and projections in New Zealand. This publication has over 300 quotes and citations from many documents, publications, speeches and statements. Under the Shadow gives the Agenda backstory, names the architects, explains the ideology and exposes the elites main driving force. Copies of UNDER THE SHADOW can be purchased on AMAZON or for New Zealand postal addresses, directly from the author - $35 plus P&P Having presented this info at many public meetings last year, I found the tree metaphor became an easy way to untangle while putting a handle on the very historic and complicated UN tiptoe to Agenda 2030.  This is the contents to give you a feel to what is covered - TIMBER!........................................................293   Final Word………………………………………………..303 Of course COVID, WEF, AI all fit into the jigsaw puzzle of secrecy and word trickery. I am a "big picture" commentator. Understanding the big picture makes it easier to understand the incremental steps by our gov and councils to ultimate end-game of communism that will best be described as a 'technocratic oligarchical scientific dictatorship'. Antoinette has also written another book in 2019 called WE ARE REVOLTING: ‘A Red Pill Read'  Paperback – January 4, 2019 · Kindle $14.99 Read with Our Free App · Paperback $35.26.  Antoinette states that in 2019 the Prime Minister of NZ wrote NZ's First Voluntary National Review to the United Nations - which is basically an audit of NZ and saying to the UN bosses where we are at, as a country. She says that it has all the basic feel good language - but behind that are ‘word definitions' - and that there is a lot of word trickery going on. Shared Responsibility and Public Private  - what do these words really mean? That key words are frequently placed in this Agenda's schedule - words that give us the ‘feel good vibe' such as ‘wellbeing' and the question is posited what does the word ‘wellbeing' translate to for the elite at the top of the UN, plus bankers and movers and shakers? What does ‘wellbeing' mean to the elite at the top of the pyramid of power? Have a listen - because what Antoinette says is very important for us all to take in. From Tims point of view as the interviewer  - I did not want to get in and argue points - I was instead offering a platform that is based on Freedom of Expression - and I know that we are being limited as time passes. Whereas as Antionette says, as a Christian that we need to be taking care of human life. That we are sacred beings - (Tim believes we are souls inhabiting bodies - (see his previous interviews about souls and near death and out of the body  experiences.) Note that in most cases Atheists refuse to debate this). Antoinette states that we are in the decade of eco restoration and that is a very good thing in Tims estimation - however it's all about how the top of the ‘pyramid of power' is going about doing this. So this is a very important point to understand - we need both - but how the Agenda's are being promulgated is that the Governments are making no effort to educate the public. There is no use of the Fourth Estate to educate humanity of what is the issue and what is at stake here. There is a balance … we have to take in the precautionary principle in situations - like the non growing of Genetically Engineered  food in NZ  - But, when it comes to Covid the authorities are not following this themselves. Because in NZ for example, the Pfizer injection has not been passed as safe by the FDA and that it is still in an ‘experimental phase' as per Med Safe here in NZ. so there is a huge in-congruence with how our elected servants are governing us - some will say ‘ruling us'. The current Government's understanding of Agenda21 according to Antoinette is that their adherence to Agenda21 is to the restoration of the environment as it was before man walked on our planet. This is seen as going too far - too fast - especially with 7.8 billion beings that need water, feeding, housing, health and education - etc. Antoinette mentions Rosa Koire on NZer Vinny Eastwoods show. link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MPKl1yskKs    In this interview Antoinette also mentions:  Bill and Melinda Gates - at the Goal Keepers Conference 2019 - where our Prime Minister commits NZ to the Agenda21 Goals.   That at present NZ is now locking away significant natural areas … But, this is not being done with open transparent, local, and district participation of the land owners and the farming or agricultural community. It is being imposed. This interview talks about top down control coming across NZ's rural sector - South Waikato for instance has been given a plan to control its water - (and we need plans to clean up our water) - however rural people are not being kept in the loop and the authorities are forcing the issue by initiating local bylaws etc without having open discussions with the locals.  This is coming from the top down. This is not localised democracy. Antoinette - stresses that Local Government is not doing the work around having meetings with local rural residents or local town hall meetings and giving people a heads up on what it would like to do or what is actually going on. It all appears to - being put in place and that everyone in the community just has to comply. Like - it's being forced upon the people. The rural sector is about to be managed … where previously in a localised community district or region - ‘we the people' governed ourselves by democratic principles. However this does not appear to be happening.  What we hear in this interview is that we are being ‘Ruled by an elite' - that sees us in many ways as useless eaters and that we do not have a soul … this is why management of the future is being set up - because in many ways we as a society have not been alert and have let our local democratic system deteriorate, by not voting - to such a degree that ‘others' have stepped in and in many ways subtly hijacked the process.  This Interview includes: The Fabian Society and the connection to the Royal Society … Article 61 and the Nuremberg code  He Whakaputanga. The flying of the 1835 Flag, when 34 Maori Chiefs came together to re-emphasise that they were independent.  Antoinette says she raises this flag at her home. This interview covers a vast number of issues that have not been given any coverage or discourse in NZ. Once we in this country were very keen on participating in our young democracy. However, you can see how the voter turnout at local government elections has fallen dramatically over the last 50 years and it is at this level that change is being forced upon us, because there are fewer checks and balances.  Antoinette as a mother and someone who has witnessed the decline in all areas of family, education, health and community life over the decades has decided to make a stand. She has to be acknowledged and empowered for standing up to a system that has lost its way and or been infiltrated. Well worth grappling with the subject matter she brings to us all. Because we are in the grips of and irregular warfare. Mentioned in this interview is the link between 5G and Covid. https://www.rfglobalnet.com/doc/fixed-wireless-communications-at-60ghz-unique-0001 https://transition.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Engineering_Technology/Documents/bulletins/oet70/oet70a.pdf Also, that there is in place a new Nuremberg Trial coming due to the unlawful acts of Government and Health officials around Covid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJXCG3tXwj4     Dr Reiner Fuellmich    https://reesereport.com/    - 4 minute videos to get the point across. There is an axiom that states - The means justifies the ends, not the ends justifies the means.  You will find that both Facists and Communists will go with ‘the ends justifying the end' - whilst those who believe in virtue and principled morality - will always go with - ‘the means justifying the end.'  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZC0NOljRWQ&t=282s     Vox  2014   Police State Contagion:   NOTES: Tim mentions that in 1992 at the Rio UN Conference in Brazil, that 192 Nations signed up to Agenda 21 - Under the auspices of George Herbert Bush - who as the Head of the CIA spent 12 years in the Whitehouse - 8 years as Vice President and 4 years as President. With his son George W Bush having another 8 years as President in the Whitehouse. What were these insiders doing during this time? www.AntoinetteJames.com

As a mother, I like to think of myself as a bit of an arborist. Arborists are basically tree doctors. I’m basically a kid doctor. Right? Anyway. Arborists are awesome. They’ll come in and inspect your tree, let you know if it needs to be pruned, and suggest things that will help you keep your trees healthy. Healthy trees need pruning—just like children. Notice a bad attitude? It’s time for some loving pruning! Watch for any sign of infection. Make sure they get the right amount of sun. Healthy trees need good soil. So do healthy children. The “soil” a healthy child needs is the rich soil of the Bible. Water daily with prayer and then watch for good fruit. It may take time, but keep at it! **Find links and more at HeidiStJohn.com*** --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/heidistjohn/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/heidistjohn/support

Today we celebrate one of the first botanists to explore South Carolina and a German botanist who met his end during the 1841 Expedition to Niger.  We'll learn about the man who discovered why the sky is blue, and one of Australia's top garden designers, in addition to the monument to one of Australia's greatest botanical collectors. We'll hear some thoughts on the birds of winter and, we Grow That Garden Library with a book that helps us become a seed starting and saving champion. I'll talk about my favorite brand for wooden plant labels (the come in a pack of 60!) and then we'll end today with a garden club story out of Davenport Iowa. But first, let's catch up on a few recent events.   Today's curated articles: Branching Out: The Arborists Behind (and in) Central Park’s Trees - The Official Website of Central Park NYC I think that I shall never see... a team as lovely as @centralparknyc Arborists!   Bookmark this Great Post w/ A+ Video ~ Meeting the Arborists Behind (and IN) Central Park’s Trees!   As we talk to kids about careers, Arborist needs to be on the list!       Dahlias -Overwintering Dilemmas | Bramble Garden Hi Dahlings! Here's a great behind-the-scenes post with advice and tips from @kgimson on Dahlias:   “I’ll take basal softwood cuttings when shoots are 1″ tall...Cuttings will make good size tubers and will flower in one season.”         Plantlife: Mission to save gin plant Juniper a recipe for success | @Love_plants   This is great news for Junipers and a fascinating post.   "No wonder the English ‘gin plant’ is under threat - the battle really begins at birth.   Juniper seeds require two winters before they even germinate and seedlings then require very specific conditions to grow.   If they survive childhood, it takes another 10 years or more before these ‘teenagers’ mature and begin producing those lovely gin-flavored berries.”   I'll never look at gin the same way!     Now, if you'd like to check out these curated articles for yourself, you're in luck- because I share all of it with the Listener Community in the Free Facebook Group - The Daily Gardener Community. There’s no need to take notes or search for links - the next time you're on Facebook, just search for Daily Gardener Community and request to join. I'd love to meet you in the group.       Brevities #OTD On this day in 1788, Andre Michaux made his way from Georgia into South Carolina by crossing the Tugalo River. In his journal, Michaux wrote: "At dawn, I went to look at the banks of the river and I recognized the yellow root, [a new species of rhododendron], mountain laurel, hydrangea, [and] hemlock spruce. . . ." Harvard's Charles Sprague Sargent concluded this moment was significant because it was the first time that Michaux laid eyes on the Rhododendron minus. Rhododendron minus grows naturally in Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama along streams and rocky ridges.   Four years after first seeing it, Andre Michaux described the Rhododendron minus in detail. He called it the minus meaning smaller, due to the size of its leaves as compared to Rhododendron maximum.       #OTD  On this day in 1841, the German botanist Theodore Vogel was laid low with dysentery. Vogel was botanizing in Niger (“nee-ZHER") after joining the Niger expedition in May of that year. By August, Vogel recorded the hardships of traveling by naval warship in his journal: "As soon as I got on board the Wilberforce, my first care was to shift my entire collection, especially the plants gathered since we arrived at Cape Coast Castle. But though I had taken all possible care, much was spoilt and almost everything in a bad state. It has been my lot ... that after endless labor, I could only get together ill-conditioned plants; for dampness and want of room are obstacles impossible to be overcome... I mention this, on purpose, that in case my collection comes into other hands, I may not be accused of negligence.    I have sacrificed every convenience to gain room, and spared no trouble to overcome the dampness of the ship and of the atmosphere, but without success. The general arrangements of a man-of-war do not give much opportunity for such experiments.    When will the time arrive, that expeditions, whose result must depend on the observations of naturalists, will afford them, from the outset, the appropriate and necessary support? At present, the vessels are fitted up for other purposes, and it is left to chance, to discover a little nook for the philosopher. I was now obliged to devote the two days remaining which we spent at Accra, to the drying of my collection, that all might not be lost."   When Vogel became sick on this day in 1841, his friend and fellow German, the mineralogist, Charles Gottfried Roscher, tended to him for thirteen days and never left his bedside. On December 17th, about mid-day, Vogel asked his friend if everything was ready for their excursion and then a few minutes later, he peacefully passed away.         #OTD  Today is the anniversary of the death of the Irish experimental physicist John Tyndall who died on this day in 1893. Tyndall made many discoveries in the field of infrared radiation, including discovering the link between atmospheric CO2 and what is now known as the Greenhouse effect in 1859. Today, we know that a female scientist named Eunice Foote was actually the first to discover the effect - three years before Tyndall in 1856. That said, Tyndall is best known for learning why the sky is blue. It turns out that light scattering through molecules suspended in the atmosphere creates the color which is sometimes referred to as Tyndall Blue.   As all gardeners know, there is nothing more beautiful than the garden set against the backdrop of a brilliant blue sky. John Tyndall was one of Ireland’s most successful scientists and educators.          #OTD  Today is the birthday of the charismatic Australian gardener, designer & writer Edna Walling who was born on this day in 1896.   Edna created some gorgeous gardens in Australia. She is remembered for her wonderful books on gardening & landscaping.   Edna worked nonstop for four decades between the 1920s and 1960s; creating over 300 gardens. Many Australians regard her as the greatest landscape designer that Australia has ever known. Her books and garden designs continue to be an inspiration.   Edna was a conservationist at heart. And, Edna was ahead of her time. She advocated for the use of native plants which were naturally drought-hardy - a must for the harsh climate of Australia. And, given her pragmatism, Edna naturally preferred perennials over annuals. She wrote about the backlash that she received from a friend in November 1941:   "[I got] a letter from a friend the other day who addressed me "Dear Anti-annual!" Oooooh, what have I said? Something rude about Iceland poppies or asters? How narrow-minded of me. "If you can't grow them yourself you needn't be snippy about them", she thinks."   It was Edna Walling who said, "Nature is our greatest teacher."   Edna's work and legacy were brought to light by Peter Watts who wrote about Edna as part of his thesis in college. The paper became the basis for a book published by the National Trust and it fueled Peter's love for historic gardens.   In an article for ThePlantHunter.com by Georgina Reid, Watts said that,   "Walling would be regarded now as a bit old-fashioned. She was a gardener’s designer – a brilliant plantswoman who understood the subtleties of gardening and design... [and that Edna] always thought gardens should be just a bit bigger than they needed so that you couldn’t control them entirely."     #OTD On this day in 1897, executors for the botanist Baron von Mueller's estate posted a request for donations in newspapers. The plan was to raise money for a monument over von Mueller's grave in the St. Hilda Cemetery in Melbourne. Four years later, by the end of November in 1901, newspapers announced that the monument was unveiled at a small ceremony with friends and government officials. The effort to establish the monument was led by Mueller's friend, Reverand Potter. Potter recalled that Mueller had "expressly desired that only wildflowers and grasses should grow upon his grave until such time as a worthy monument could be erected." Mueller's monument is a tall stone obelisk topped with an urn. A copper medallion shows his profile and the inscription on the monument ends with these words by Friedrich Schiller, the Baron’s favorite poet:   "Despair not! There are still noble hearts that glow for the august and sublime."         Unearthed Words The American naturalist, Edwin Way Teale has given us some marvelous prose about birds and winter in his books. During World War II, Teale’s son, David, was killed in Germany. Teale and his wife began traveling across the country by automobile. The trips helped them cope with their grief and became an integral part of Teale's writing. Their 1947 journey, covering 17,000 miles in a black Buick and following the unfolding spring, led to Teale's book North with the Spring. Additional road trips lead to more books: Journey Into Summer, Autumn Across America, and Wandering Through Winter. Wandering Through Winter won the Pulitzer Prize in 1966.  Here are some of Teale's thoughts on winter and birds: “The "dead of winter" ----- how much more dead it would be each year without the birds!”  “On the roughest days of winter, when life seems overwhelmed by storm and cold, watch a chickadee, observe in good cheer and take heart.”     “Bluebird blue....one of the loveliest manifestations of the color blue.” My favorite Edwin Way Teale quote honors his thoughts about life. They are especially poignant when one thinks that he wrote them after losing his son:   “How strangely inaccurate it is to measure the length of living by length of life! The space between your birth and death is often far from a true measure of your days of living.”      It's Time to Grow That Garden Library with Today's Book: Starting & Saving Seeds by Julie Thompson Adolf The subtitle to this book is Grow the Perfect Vegetables, Fruits, Herbs, and Flowers for Your Garden. Julie's book is a great gift for anyone who wants to start growing plants from seed. It's a whole 'nother world and it can be scary for gardeners to attempt starting & saving seeds on their own. I get it. Well, here's why Julie's book is a great guide: she gets it. She totally relates to the newbie seed starter anxieties and questions around this topic. Best of all, she is 100% approachable. As she says in the introduction to her book: "Think of me as your new friend or the neighbor next door who loves to garden. Together we'll banish any fears of failure and create a beautiful, healthy, delicious, self-sufficient garden - from seed." Yay! So, now that intimidation is off the table, let Julie walk you through how to handle bigger challenges like dealing with seeds that are stubborn germinators - seeds that I call the "Terminator Germinators." Even better, Julie recognizes that not everyone wants to set up shop indoors. If you don't want to grow lights or have limited space, let Julie teach you how to seed outdoors - because direct sowing couldn't be simpler. Did someone say zinnias? Better yet, as your confidence grows, let Julie convince you of the many benefits of starting plants from seeds  - the cost savings, the increased variety options, and the appreciation factor. When you start a plant from seed - you really appreciate the entire life cycle of the plant and that deepens your understanding.        Today's Recommended Holiday Gift for Gardeners: HOMENOTE 60pcs Bamboo Plant Labels (6 x 10 cm) with Bonus a Pen Vegetable Garden Markers T-Type Plant Tags for Plants $12.99 Great Value Pack. "[The group] added a special holiday gesture to its December program this morning at the Davenport Municipal Art Gallery, when the seed and bulb committee composed of E. A. Johnson and Mrs. R. E. Albrecht, presented each member with a dainty Christmas package in bright-hued Christmas wrappings, containing seeds for next spring's sowing. Fifty seed packages and ten sacks of dahlia bulbs went to the women who attended." But that's not all. Their education program was spot on: "Mrs. Charles Irwin spoke on the Arnold Arboretum at Cambridge, Mass., and its former keeper, the late E. H. Wilson, who passed away in October, and who was known as "Chinese" Wilson from his travels and long residence in China. Mrs. P. T. Burrows suggested that the department send to the new keeper and ask for seeds from rare plants to be used in Davenport gardens and public park as experimental plantings on this Mississippi Valley region." "[Then,] Mrs. Mathilde P. Koehler spoke on "Famous Gardens." Mrs. Koehler [who] has traveled extensively told of the wonderful gardens one finds in different parts of the United States... She also paid a tribute to the late John Temple, a well-known florist of Davenport and told of the lilac tree which he had planted in her garden, this being one of [only] a few in [this] city." "[Finally,] Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cassling gave songs to the accompaniment of Miss Lois McDermott at the piano. [And] decorations were of prettily trimmed Christmas trees." Now that's a meeting!       Thanks for listening to the daily gardener, and remember: "For a happy, healthy life, garden every day."

And it’s finally getting serious ‘airtime’ in the press and social media, even though Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo have put forward a press release which was published recently in the Rosebank Killarney Gazette to say that ‘it’s too early to classify the outbreak of PSHB as a disaster’ due to a lack of data, and that they reckon we’re at the ‘tail-end of the outbreak’... and guided by research findings they hope to confirm that this outbreak is on its way out. Well, unfortunately that’s not so. The ‘outbreak’ was given wide coverage a year or more ago, and unfortunately, no cure for it has been found, and even more disturbingly, CoJ has yet to identify a place or put in place plans to get rid of infected wood. We are looking at what could potentially be one of SA’s largest ecological tragedies. The private sector has done so much in creating public awareness. You don’t need to call a fireman to rescue your cat from a tree when Shaun Sears is around. Shaun and his partner are certified arborists who have “branched out” (sorry!) into the specialty of rescuing cats from trees. Their firm, Canopy Cat Rescue, has recovered nearly 800 cats from trees over the last two years, and was featured on the Animal Planet program, “Tree Top Cat Rescue.” They operate as a non-profit, relying solely on donations for their work, so that they can rescue any cat regardless of an owner’s ability to pay. Shaun shares the knowledge he’s learned about how to deal with all types of cats —friendly and scared, feral and owned — and busts the myth that a cat will simply climb down when it’s hungry.   To find out more about Cat Canopy Rescue go to: canopycatrescue.com

Improper pruning is one of the biggest challenges trees face in our towns and cities. It could be someone using a polesaw to trim the branches away from their house or the so called “tree guy” that strips all the limbs and foliage out of the center of our tree, leaving twigs and leaves only at the end of the branch—known as lion’s-tailing. One of the best defenses against improper pruning is the climbing arborist. They can get up into a tree, fully assess its needs and properly prune the tree.
