Pastor Micah finished up our current series this week called Wisdom: A Study in Proverbs! While King Solomon was not perfect (he didn't even always take his own advice!) he did record an incredible collection of wisdom in the book of Proverbs. This wisdom is timeless; it was relevant thousands of years ago and it is relevant today. The specifics may have changed, but the principles in Proverbs are still solid and sound advice for you and me! This week we focused on what King Solomon taught about how to avoid temptation by looking at a parable he tells in Proverbs 7:7-27.Here are 2 important observations I wanted to highlight in regards to the book of Proverbs:Proverbs contains general principles about how life should work.Proverbs contains examples of foolish vs. wise behavior. Jesus' remedy to avoiding temptation

This week we continue in the Gospel of Mark where we had left off last Sunday. Jesus and the disciples had arrived at Capernaum after a long journey, and Jesus had gathered them together to teach them what it means to be first in the kingdom of God. Following this lesson, Jesus continues to address concerns raised by the disciples and emphasizes the importance of faithfully following his teaching. He warned them thatthey would experience hardship and face difficult decisions. But the benefits of entering the kingdom of God far surpass any sacrifice we must make in this life.God does not cause suffering or create problems for us, but they happen. When confronted with life's challenges, Jesus teaches us to always prioritize the choice that we believe God wants us to take even if it causes us to suffer in this life. We are not expected to literally maim or blind ourselves, but we are expected to be willing to sacrifice our personal comforts that stem from activities or systems that work against God. Consistently failing to follow Christ's teachings dilutes our faith and muddles our identity as Christians. Instead, Christ urges us to show our true colors as his followers and let his light shine through us.

So far, Jesus has taught us to confess God as our Father, to sanctify His name, to pray for His Kingdom to come, and for His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. He’s taught us to trust God for our daily bread as well as for our daily grace, first for ourselves, then for others. This morning, Jesus teaches us that in the same way we must trust God to give us our daily bread and our daily grace, we must also trust Him to “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” When it comes to facing temptation it is not a matter of if, but of when. So when temptation comes upon us we must trust God to help us keep our commitment to keep practicing what Jesus preaches. We approach God to ask Him to help us practice what Jesus preaches.

Last season was all about self-care and being the best you can be. We had so much fun recording our self-care season and hope you've gained a lot of clarity on your personal and financial goals and values from listening to the episodes. The next step is being intentional with your money and using it as a tool to improve your life. Temptation doesn’t start outside of us with the devil. Temptation starts in our own hearts. The best way to deal with temptation is to avoid it! In more than 40 years of counseling I have never met one person that applied Jesus’ teaching in prayer to avoid temptation. But you can! Rather than fighting against temptation, by following Jesus’ instruction you can avoid it. Join me this week and I’ll show you the one thing you can do to always avoid temptation!
