Deep Sea Liner 2682 was coming back to port early. Nobody knew why - just that something very bad had happened at sea. The original plan was a group of 33 people would embark on a 2 year long deep sea fishing mission. But now they were coming back after just 8 months. What happened? When the giant vessel docked - concerned family, corporate employees of the fishing company, and even 11 police cars were lined up waiting for them. Police went on board escorting each one of the passengers off in handcuffs. Forensic teams in full hazmat suits rushed onto the boat and sprayed it down with Luminol. The whole boat was glowing. She was The Salt Vampire from the season one episode of TOS "The Man Trap," but she also was a Talosian in the original pilot with Jeffrey Hunter, "The Cage." When Ms. Gimpel started in Hollywood, she had no idea what a "stunt" even was, but she eventually became one of the top stunt performers in the industry and remains active to this day.  Sandra tells us about her origins in Hollywood by becoming one of Elvis Presley's main dancers featured in many of his movies, how she ended up as Bill Mumy's stunt double in "Lost in Space" and how that led to her time on "Star Trek," working with Jeffrey Hunter, William Shatner, and Gene Roddenberry and the secrets to her makeup, and more from her time on Trek. Have Gun - Will Travel is a Western series that aired on CBS from 1957 to 1963. It follows the adventures of Paladin, a gentleman gunfighter who travels the Old West helping those in need. The series was created by Sam Rolfe and Herb Meadow, and starred Richard Boone as Paladin. The show was a critical and commercial success, and spawned a successful radio version. It was one of the few shows in television history to be adapted into a radio series. The title of the show is a variation on a cliche used in personal advertisements in newspapers. It was popularized by the show in the 1950s and 1960s, and many variations have been used as titles for other works. Here are some additional facts about the show: The series was set in the Old West, but the exact time period was never specified. It is generally believed to be set in the 1870s or 1880s. Paladin was a skilled gunfighter, but he was also a gentleman. He was always willing to help those in need, even if it meant putting himself in danger. He was a complex character, and his motivations were not always clear. The show featured a number of recurring characters, including Paladin's sidekick, Hey Boy. Hey Boy was a Chinese man who served as Paladin's cook, valet, and friend. He was a loyal and trusted companion. Today we have a more timely Combat Story where we sit down with the head of the Ukrainian Come Back Alive Foundation, Taras Chmut. Come Back Alive provides financing for purely defense initiatives and since 2014, it has provided nearly 1000 thermal imaging devices and over 250 UAVs in addition to material support, technology, and training for the forces fighting the Russians on Ukrainian soil. Before stepping up to lead this organization, Taras was a Ukrainian Marine rifleman on the front lines in 2015 and then a commander of a reconnaissance unit with UAVs and signals intercept capabilities providing a better picture of the battlefield mainly near Mariupol (which we've heard so much about today). For the past 20 years, over their spring break, we have taken our high school students on a 4 day, 20 to 30 mile backpacking trip in the NC mountains.  If you have ever gone on one of our backpacking trips you may have asked yourself, "How in the world did they dream up this miserable fun?"  In Part 1 of this series, we walk through how this trip began as a divinity school project and what the first few years were like.  Snow, rain, lightening and hail....we had it all and sometimes we have to ask ourselves how we all came back alive!  We cherish and laugh about these early adventures, but they have helped us evolve the trip to where it is today.
