Join Jim and Greg for Tuesday's 3 Martini Lunch as they examine big developments on President Trump's border enforcement, former cabinet officials dishing on Biden's decline while staying off the record, and an alarming communications failure between the Pentagon and Reagan National Airport that lasted three years - including the night of January's fatal mid-air collision.First, they cheer April's southern border numbers, with just 8,383 apprehensions reported—down 93 percent from April 2024. Jim says the stunning turnaround under President Trump is likely to be ignored by most media outlets now that the crisis is under control.Next, they dig into a report featuring three former Biden cabinet secretaries who described the former president as “disoriented and out of it,” even observing his mouth agape during meetings. But the sources remain anonymous. Jim wants to know why these cabinet officials didn't invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Biden from office. Greg slams these anonymous cabinet officials as cowards for not putting their names on their statements, probably because they still have political ambitions. Finally, they're stunned by revelations this week that "a hotline connecting air traffic controllers at Reagan National Airport and their counterparts at the Pentagon has been inoperable since March 2022." That means it also wasn't working on January 29, when an Army helicopter flew into the path of an American Airlines jet on approach for landing. The hotline was inoperable for nearly three years of the Biden administration and was not discovered until this month. When Alejandro Mayorkas was tapped to run DHS – the now 20-year-old behemoth with 260,000 employees created in the aftermath of 9/11 – Mayorkas said that he was determined to be the Secretary of Homeland Security, NOT the Secretary of Immigration. How's that going? Yesterday, Playbook co-author and Deep Dive host Ryan Lizza sat down with him on the sidelines of the Aspen Security Forum to find out. Mayorkas's department is charged with preventing foreign and domestic terrorist attacks. It monitors threats from weapons of mass destruction, protects infrastructure and ensures we're safe from cyber attacks. What many of DHS's agencies do have in common is that you often don't hear much about them unless something really bad has happened. So even if Mayorkas didn't also oversee immigration, the most fraught of political issues, being DHS secretary – responsible for defending the nation against terrorism, computer hackers, nuclear weapons, and natural disasters – can often be a thankless job. And despite his best attempts, it is Mayorkas's management of Border Patrol, ICE, and Immigration Services that has dominated his tenure and made him the GOP's main target of attack in the Biden Cabinet. On this episode of Deep Dive, Ryan and Sec. Mayorkas discuss how the terrorism threat has changed over the last two decades, the challenges of confronting domestic extremism, why the end of Title 42 didn't lead to the border surge many predicted, the future of TSA, the fentanyl crisis, the prospects of impeachment, and how going through the meat grinder of D.C. politics has changed him. Ryan Lizza is a Playbook co-author for POLITICO. Alejandro Mayorkas is the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Kara Tabor is a producer for POLITICO audio. Alex Keeney is a senior producer for POLITICO audio.

If you have wondered why things are so screwed up with the Biden Administration and why his Administration seem to be selling America down the drain, just take a look at his advisors? Could it be that things are going awry because Biden is being led around by foreign agents? What are the names of some of these communists who are advising Biden? This is truly a puppet show. Let's see who the puppeteers are?
The language coming out of the White House couldn't be more at odds with the reality Americans are facing, especially economically. Is the current administration lying through its teeth to us, or is this just another example of Biden Cabinet incompetence? Stu Burguiere examines why the answer could easily be both. As the UK gears up for the local and regional elections series, this week's episode takes a special look at the one area of the UK not holding elections this cycle - Northern Ireland. It also includes a a review of last week's Bulgarian elections as Boyko Borissov looks to fight for his role as Prime Minister to continue, and it looks at the Biden Cabinet confirmation process, discussing why with the exception of Neera Tanden's position, it was relatively seamless. Just over one year on from the restoration of power-sharing in Northern Ireland, Sam and Chern take a look this week at the state of politics in the six counties, and the state of the parties that operate there. Amidst a rise in unionist-nationalist tension, this week's episode discusses what makes the region so turblent even 23 years on from the Good Friday Agreement of 1998, and how the party system has transformed as a result of this. Why did Arlene Foster's DUP overtake the UUP as the main unionist party, just as Sinn Fein did to the SDLP on the nationalist side? How much room does a non-sectarian party like Alliance have to grow into? Has the change in leadership from Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness to Mary Lou McDonald and Michelle O'Neill helped Sinn Fein grow as a force in Northern Ireland and the Republic? All these questions and more answered in this week's episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ballot-to-talk-about/message

First, Dave shares how even Bernie Sanders is now admitting that Big Tech’s ability to ban Donald Trump shows that the tech companies have too much power. Democratic senators tried to push for Asian racial quotas from the Biden administration, but have now backed down. The ascension of Deb Haaland to Secretary of the Interior is both significant and historic. The first native American EVER to sit in a presidential cabinet. Just another win for the Biden-Harris team that is racking up victories and making their GOP counterparts look silly. 3,000,000 vaccines a day?!! Even in our wildest dreams, we couldn't envision that happening and yet here we are. This unprecedented mobilization of resources and expertise defies description. And then there is the Vatican, whose tone-deaf rejection of same-sex marriages demonstrates how out of touch the Catholic Church is with their flock. But hey, take heart! For the last four years, every day was filled with nothing but horror, embarrassment, and humiliation for anyone who didn't wear a red hat, at least we're mixing in some wins with the losses now. In this episode, Robin Biro and David Katzner bounce around the news cycle and then welcome Jennifer Cohn, a voting security expert who breaks down the realities behind the inexplicably bizarre and probably corrupt system of choosing which voting systems tabulate our votes. You've probably heard of Dominion (thanks to Rudy, Sydney, and The Pillow Guy!) but there's another company lurking behind some very strange goings-on. Jennifer helps us make sense of it all. As always Robin ends the show with a palette cleanser that will surely make you smile.

This week's episode of this international politics podcast focusses on the newly inaugurated Biden administration as the Cabinet begins to form, and the legislative agends gets underway. It discusses the Biden Cabinet as a whole, and analyses the state of the Democrat party in the aftermath of them taking control of the trifecta. This episode also features a preview of the first round of the Ecuadorian Presidential Election, where Andrés Arauz and Guillermo Lasso are expected to advance to a second round. Chern and Sam look at the region of South America more broadly, and if any themes can be highlighted. Just over two weeks on from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's inauguration, this episode looks at their Cabinet as Senate confirmations begin to roll in, and specifically talk about the last few nomination announcements - Gina Raimondo, Marty Walsh and Merrick Garland. Will any of Biden's nominees face issues in the Senate confirmation hearings? Why are there no Republicans in Biden's team? As the Democrats look ahead to at least two years in full control, the state of the party is also explored. Will the narrow majorities in Congress help quell ideological divides or embolden them? What will the party look like at the end of the Biden term? Will ideological divisions stall any flagship legislation? All these questions, and more, answered in this week's episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ballot-to-talk-about/message

Caleb Maupin, journalist and political analyst, joins us for a review of the week's most important news stories. Biden has nominated several notoriously pro-war hawks for his foreign policy team. Also, Guatemalans take to the streets to oppose neoliberal austerity as government officials cut nutrition funds for the public and increase personal benefits. Dr. Jack Rasmus, professor in Economics and Politics at St. Mary's College in California, returns to discuss a recent Washington Post article entitled "How a $17 billion bailout fund intended for Boeing ended up in very different hands." Also, he talks about moves by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and many other progressives in the Democratic Party who are fighting to keep deficit hawks out of the Biden Cabinet. In a Tuesday tweet, Omar wrote, "If the Biden administration is serious about protecting Medicare and Social Security, they must not appoint one of the biggest champions of cuts to lead their budget agency."Chris Hedges, investigative journalist, returns to enlighten us about his latest article, "The Ruling Elite's War on Truth." Hedges argues, "Joe Biden's victory instantly obliterated the Democratic Party's long-standing charge that Russia was hijacking and compromising US elections." He exposes the Democrats' cynical claims of election interference and how the twisting and stretching of truth and logic needed to keep the story afloat has destroyed and discredited institutional confidence in the US.Ajamu Baraka, 2016 US vice-presidential candidate for the Green Party; and Margaret Kimberley, editor and senior columnist at Black Agenda Report and author of "Prejudential: Black America and the Presidents," come together to review several news stories from the short week. A Washington Post article about international coronavirus policy notes that Russia, China and other nations are joining together in the struggle to deliver doses of a viable COVID-19 vaccine around the world, as the US refuses to work with the group. The article argues that this is a mistake that will cause the US to lose influence and credibility on the world stage. Also, the Trump administration is reportedly planning to designate Yemen's Houthi movement as a terrorist group in a move that may increase suffering in the war-torn, impoverished nation. Jim Kavanagh, Writer at The Polemicist and CounterPunch; and Dr. Linwood Tauheed, associate professor of economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, return to The Critical Hour to review the week's most important stories. The United States has reached a grim milestone by recording 2 million new COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks, and 42 states are seeing sustained increases in caseloads, the New York Times reported Wednesday. This desperate situation has led to public health agencies "acknowledging that contact tracing efforts can no longer be expected to contain the virus's spread," the Times noted. Additionally, they discuss Biden's potential Cabinet, US President Donald Trump's moves to overturn the election and US policy towards Iran in a post-Trump environment.
