Apparently, Tim is HIM! This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl buckle up for a finale-heavy week with the last two episodes of Maul: Shadow Lord, the Season 2 finale of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the Season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again, The Boys Season 5 Episode 6, and Netflix's 2026 limited series Lord of the Flies. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Lord of the Flies: 7:02 Maul: 12:47 Monarch: 29:32 Daredevil: 46:50 The Boys: 1:02:16 Lord of the Flies, Netflix Limited Series Limited Series Episodes: 4 Titles: Piggy, Jack, Simon, Ralph Netflix release date: May 4, 2026 in the U.S. Original release date: February 8, 2026 Director: Marc Munden Writer: Jack Thorne Summary: Netflix's 2026 Lord of the Flies limited series adapts William Golding's classic survival nightmare into a four-episode TV format, following a group of British schoolboys stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. Ralph and Piggy try to build order, rules, and rescue plans, while Jack's need for power and violence slowly turns the group into rival camps. The series tracks the collapse through four character-focused episodes: Piggy brings the boys together, Jack embraces the hunt, Simon becomes the tragic victim of the island's growing hysteria, and Ralph watches the last pieces of civilization burn down around him. By the end, Piggy and Simon are dead, Ralph is hunted, and rescue arrives only after the boys have already proven that the real monster was never hiding in the jungle. Rating Out of 10 It Would Have Been Better Not to Try at All Brian: 1/10 Darryl: DNW Maul: Shadow Lord (Disney Plus) Title: Chapter 9: Strange Allies Air date: May 4, 2026 Director: Steward Lee Writer: Christopher Yost Summary: Dryden Vos enters the picture with an offer Maul absolutely cannot ignore: safe passage off Janix in exchange for Maul taking the reins of Crimson Dawn. Meanwhile, Maul reaches out to Devon through their Force connection, drawing her and the rest of the group into a desperate alliance. Lawson suggests a dangerous underground route out of the city, but the escape turns into a nightmare when the group has to cross a toxic river while the Inquisitors close in. Maul holds them off long enough for everyone to make it across, only for Darth Vader to arrive outside the city and casually remind everyone that there is always a bigger monster in the room. Title: Chapter 10: The Dark Lord Air date: May 4, 2026 Director: Nathaniel Villanueva Writer: Matt Michnovetz & Brad Rau Summary: The season finale throws Maul, Devon, Daki, the Lawsons, and the rest of the survivors straight into Vader's shadow. Maul and the Jedi fight Vader and the Inquisitors while the others try to reach Dryden Vos's ship through a wall of Imperial troops. Daki gets a brief victory over Marrok, but Vader kills him after Maul chooses self-preservation over loyalty. Devon's grief and rage push her closer to Maul, who promises to train her for revenge. Lawson sacrifices himself so Rylee, Two-Boots, and Vario can escape, and by the time Vos's ship leaves Janix, Devon agrees to become Maul's apprentice. Good news: they escaped. Bad news: the emotional damage is now fully weaponized. Rating Out of 10 Shhhhh Vader Comes Brian: 8/10 Darryl: 9.4/10 Season out of 10 Maul, Not Darth Just Maul Brian: 6/10 Darryl: 8.8/10 Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Season 2 Finale Season 2, Episode 10 Title: Where We Belong Air date: May 1, 2026 Director: Lawrence Trilling Writer: Teleplay by Joe Pokaski; Story by Andrew Colville Summary: The finale brings the season's Titan X chaos to Skull Island, where Kentaro leans into Isabel's plan to use Axis Mundi to save Hiroshi, because apparently messing with monster time-space is the new family therapy. Kong battles Titan X while Cate escapes Isabel's base and Keiko rescues her. Tim and May try to shut down the neural implants, but the real fix comes from returning Titan X's egg, which pacifies the creature and ends the fight. Titan X returns to Axis Mundi with the egg, Shaw and Keiko get a brief emotional vision of younger Shaw, and six weeks later Monarch officially recruits Cate, Keiko, May, and Tim. Meanwhile, Shaw tracks Kentaro and Isabel to Thailand and finds Rodan waiting near a volcano, because this show simply refuses to end on a normal workplace update. MacDonald Writer: Dario Scardapane & Jesse Wigutow Summary: Karen Page's trial becomes the pressure cooker for the entire season as Matt calls Wilson Fisk to the stand, presents Savva's video testimony, and publicly reveals that he is Daredevil to prove what Fisk has done. Dex stops AVTF officers from killing Matt, then takes a shot at Fisk, causing chaos inside the courthouse. Outside, Daredevil's supporters rise up after BB Urich pushes the city to fight back. Fisk is offered exile to avoid charges, but because he is Wilson Fisk and subtlety has never once entered the chat, he lashes out and kills multiple protestors before Matt convinces him to take the deal. Fisk leaves New York, the AVTF collapses, BB lands at the New York Bulletin, Jessica reunites with Luke Cage, Heather Glenn starts sliding into Muse territory, and Matt ends the season arrested and imprisoned for being Daredevil. That is one hell of a “victory,” Matt. Deep responds like the emotionally stable aquatic nightmare he is and murders Noir in retaliation. Meanwhile, Sage incapacitates Ashley and pulls information from Bashley, discovering that Soldier Boy may know where to find a lead on V1. That sends Sage into full defection mode as the final season keeps pushing everyone toward the inevitable blood-soaked endgame. Also, yes, somehow “Bashley” remains a thing we all have to say out loud. Monarch’s Tim is LARPing as the MAN This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl dive into another packed week of prestige chaos, Sith trauma, kaiju family therapy, Hell's Kitchen courtroom warfare, and The Boys reminding everyone that celebrity cameos are just meat with better agents. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Maul: 8:27 Monarch: 15:51 Daredevil: 29:40 The Boys: 44:14 Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, Episode 7 Title: Chapter 7: Call to Oblivion Air date: April 27, 2026 Director: Nathaniel Villanueva Writer: Julia Cooperman Summary: Maul brings Devon and Rylee to his hideout as the Empire closes in, but Devon refuses to follow him and tries to get Rylee away. Things go sideways fast when Imperial forces capture Rylee, forcing Devon back toward Lawson and Daki. Meanwhile, Maul's attempt to escape Janix collapses into a brutal fight with Marrok and the Eleventh Brother, leaving his followers scattered, his ship destroyed, and his already damaged leg becoming a very real problem. Maul survives because of course he does, but this is the Empire turning the screws hard. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, Episode 8 Title: Chapter 8: The Creeping Fear Air date: April 27, 2026 Director: Saul Ruiz Writer: Jennifer Corbett Summary: With Maul separated from his crew and physically breaking down, the episode digs into his past through hallucinations of Sidious, Savage Opress, and the trauma that shaped him into the walking red flag he is today. Two-Boots finally gets his moral compass rebooted after learning what the Empire really did to Klyce, helping Rylee escape before the group walks into yet another trap. Sul sacrifices herself to stop Blake, and Maul's surviving crew regroups just in time for a message from Dryden Vos, because apparently the galaxy's criminal LinkedIn is still very active. Rating Out of 10 Help Me Darryl-Wan Kneobi, Brian Stopped Watching Darryl: 6.8/10 Brian: DNW Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Season 2, Episode 9 Title: Ends of the Earth Air date: April 24, 2026 Director: Lawrence Trilling Writer: Tanner Hansinger Summary: Outpost 18 tracks Godzilla and Titan X toward Skull Island, where Godzilla backs off and Isabel reveals the full flavor of her Apex-branded madness. Her plan is not just about Axis Mundi. It is about using Titan X, its egg, and Skull Island itself as pieces on a very expensive monster chessboard. Meanwhile, Tim, Shaw, Keiko, May, and Monarch forces follow Titan X onto the island, Shaw and Keiko get separated, Cate escapes, and Kentaro drops the emotional trap card by claiming they can save Hiroshi. In the 1958 storyline, Keiko and Bill marry, while Bill's later obsession with rifts shows how this family has been getting emotionally nuked by monster science for decades. Rating Out of 5 When Godzilla and Titan X Stop to Have a Chat Brian: 4.01/5 Darryl: 3/5 Daredevil: Born Again, Season 2, Episode 7 Title: The Hateful Darkness Air date: April 28, 2026 Director: Iain B. MacDonald Writer: Heather Bellson Summary: Karen Page finally gets her day in court, and Matt comes out of hiding to help defend her alongside Kirsten McDuffie. The trial puts the AVTF under pressure, but Fisk's machine responds the only way it knows how: violence, intimidation, and ugly backroom damage control. Jessica Jones confronts Mr. Charles and learns Luke Cage is working overseas with the CIA, while Dex interrupts an assassination attempt on Governor McCaffrey. The emotional gut punch lands with Daniel Blake, who nearly gives BB Urich up to Cashman before finding his spine at the worst possible time. He lets her escape, refuses to reveal her location, and pays for it with his life. Rating Out of 5, Matthew Murdock for the Defense is Straight Fire Brian: 4.22/5 Darryl: 3.5/5 The Boys, Season 5, Episode 5 Title: One-Shots Air date: April 29, 2026 Director: Phil Sgriccia Writer: Judalina Neira Summary: The Boys keeps pushing the virus and chasing V1 while Homelander and Soldier Boy go hunting for answers through Stan Edgar and Mister Marathon. In Los Angeles, Mister Marathon and Malchemical try to pull Soldier Boy away from Homelander, but Soldier Boy chooses Team Daddy Issues and kills Malchemical instead. Marathon's escape turns into a blood-soaked celebrity disaster before Homelander finishes him off. Back at Vought, Sage warns Ashley that Homelander can't get V1, Noir spirals through theater-kid identity crisis hell, The Deep does Deep things, and Firecracker finally starts doubting Homelander, which goes about as well as expected. He kills her. Because apparently loyalty programs at Vought end with murder. Five shows, one galaxy of trauma This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl dive into Maul: Shadow Lord Episodes 3 and 4, break down Invincible Season 4 Episode 7, review Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Episode 7, check in on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 5, and survive The Boys Season 5 Episode 3. It's a packed week of monsters, mayhem, revenge, and people making extremely bad choices with tremendous confidence. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Maul Shadow Lord: Monarch: Daredevil: The Boys: Invincible: Maul: Shadow Lord (Disney+) Maul: Shadow Lord, Episode 3 Title: Chapter 3: Whispers in the Unknown Air date: April 13, 2026 Director: Steward Lee Writer: Julia Cooperman Summary: Devon escapes captivity only to be pulled back into Maul's orbit, where he toys with her psychologically as much as physically. While Lawson tries to juggle the Maul crisis with his failing home life, Maul escalates his war with the Pykes by hitting one of their shipments and tightening his grip on Janix. The episode leans hard into dread, temptation, and Maul's creepy mentor energy. Maul: Shadow Lord, Episode 4 Title: Chapter 4: Pride and Vengeance Air date: April 13, 2026 Director: Nathaniel Villanueva Writer: Amanda Rose Muñoz Summary: Maul makes his move against Marg Krim and forces the Pyke Syndicate into line, while Devon reunites with Daki and tries to help Lawson mount a real resistance. Lawson's raid on Maul's hideout goes badly, Daki and Devon confront Maul directly, and the whole situation gets much worse when the Empire is finally called in. Basically: everybody makes one bad decision after another, and then an Imperial Star Destroyer shows up to make it everyone's problem. Rating Out of 10 I Really Thought the Padiwan Was Going to Turn On the Lizard Guy Brian: 5/10 Darryl: 8.1/10 Monarch Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV) Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Season 2, Episode 7 Title: String Theory Air date: April 10, 2026 Director: Gandja Monteiro Writer: Joe Pokaski Summary: Shaw receives an impossible radio transmission that pushes the season deeper into its time-bending weirdness. Cate and Keiko uncover an ancient connection to Titan X, while Kentaro gets a dangerous new offer tied to Apex's larger ambitions. The episode mixes emotional sci-fi melancholy with MonsterVerse myth-building, which is a fancy way of saying it gets sad, strange, and ominous in exactly the way this show likes. Rating out of 5 Way To Almost Erase Yourself Shaw Brian: 4.11/5 Darryl: 3.61/5 Daredevil: Born Again (Dsiney+) Daredevil: Born Again, Season 2, Episode 5 Title: The Grand Design Air date: April 14, 2026 Director: Angela Barnes Writer: Jesse Wigutow Summary: Matt's war against Fisk keeps tightening as the season hits its midpoint and starts showing more of the machinery behind Fisk's grip on New York. The title alone tells you this is an episode about schemes, structure, and people realizing they're standing inside someone else's plan. Midseason episodes like this are where the screws get turned, and this one sounds built to do exactly that. Rating out of 5 Mercy Sir… Mercy Brian: 3.6/5 Darryl: 3.2/5 The Boys (Amazon Prime) The Boys, Season 5, Episode 3 Title: Every One of You Sons of Bitches Air date: April 15, 2026 Director: Karen Gaviola Writer: Ellie Monahan Summary: Ryan goes feral, Homelander spirals further into god-complex territory, and Soldier Boy's return throws gasoline on everything. The Supe-killing virus, V1, and Vought's ugly origins all start crashing into one another while betrayals, deaths, and deeply unhealthy father-son dynamics pile up. So, you know, a normal Wednesday for this disgusting little masterpiece. In the present, Mark, Nolan, Oliver, Allen, Battle Beast, Space Racer, and the Coalition take the fight to Viltrum, only to walk into a vicious ambush. Oliver gets horribly wrecked, Thaedus pays dearly, and the episode turns into one long slab of galactic violence and despair. Cheerful stuff. Dune vs. Doomsday This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl dig into the Dune vs. Doomsday box office standoff, review Monarch Season 2 Episode 5, Invincible Season 4 Episode 5, and break down the first three episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 WB vs. Disney (Dune x Avengers): 5:04 Monarch: 14:37 Invincible: 26:33 Daredevil Born Again: 36:37 Dunesday 2026 For the movie-date standoff, the official release date for both Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday is still December 18, 2026. Warner's Dune: Part Three is positioned for IMAX, while Marvel's own official page still lists Avengers: Doomsday on December 18 as well. There is current reporting that Marvel may be considering a move, but that appears to be rumor/reporting territory, not official confirmation yet. Based on the IMAX angle alone, my best bet is Marvel/Disney moves first, not WB. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV) Season 2, Episode 5 Title: Furusato Air date: March 27, 2026 Director: Jeff F. Titan X's arrival stirs up the island's Scarabs, injures Shaw, and seems to exert a strange pull on Cate as it emerges. In San Francisco, an evacuation is declared, while Cate meets one of the students who she saved on G-Day. She has a change of heart, and decides to return to Monarch. Trissop’s team leave Outpost 18 as Tim’s team and the Pacific Fleet prepare to intercept Titan X, but the signal on Apex’s tracking system turns out to be a whale. In Pensacola, the others infiltrate Apex’s headquarters and discover that Apex have been smuggling creatures off of Skull Island, including Leafwings, Needlewalkers, and Vinestranglers. Brenda shows May that Apex have developed neural implants to modify animal behavior, which she demonstrates using a Leafwing, and explains that they want to use the same technology to pacify the Titans. Shaw and Kentaro release the Needlewalkers to cause a distraction, allowing Hiroshi and Keiko to find the lure, but it has been dismantled. Fortunately, they also discover that Apex have some of Bill’s old files, including his map of Titan X’s migratory route, which allows them to predict its next destination as Santa Soledad. Eve tells William about her pregnancy, while Debbie plans to move in with Paul. As Eve prepares to tell Mark about the pregnancy, Nolan and Allen arrive. Featured cast: Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson, J.K. Simmons as Omni-Man, Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson, and Brandon Scott Jones as William Clockwell. Rating Out of 5 What the Actual Fuck Was This Brian: .01/5 Darryl: 1/5 Project Hail Mary (2026) Release Date: March 20, 2026 Runtime: 156 minutes Director: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller Writer: Drew Goddard Based On: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir Studios: Lord Miller Productions, Pascal Pictures, Open Invite Films, and Waypoint Entertainment Distributor: Amazon MGM Studios (U.S. and Canada), Sony Pictures Releasing International (international) Summary: Ryland Grace wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory of who he is or why he is there, only to slowly realize he has been sent on a desperate mission to save Earth from an extinction-level threat. What starts as a survival mystery turns into a science-heavy, emotionally warm space adventure built around problem-solving, sacrifice, and an unexpected interstellar friendship. Main Cast: Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt James Ortiz as Rocky Lionel Boyce as Carl Milana Vayntrub as Olesya Ilyukhina Ken Leung as Yao Priya Kansara as Mary Bastian Antonio Fuentes as Parker Production Notes: The film was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and adapted by Drew Goddard, who also wrote The Martian, giving this one a similar mix of hard-science problem solving, humor, and crowd-pleasing momentum. Production shot in the United Kingdom, with principal photography running from June through October 2024, centered at Shepperton Studios. The movie's cinematography was handled by Greig Fraser, with editing by Chris Dickens and Joel Negron, and music by Daniel Pemberton. One of the big talking points around the movie is how heavily it leans on practical filmmaking. Lord and Miller said the production avoided green screens on set, relying instead on built environments, controlled lighting, puppetry, and VFX enhancement later. Rocky was brought to life through a combination of puppetry, animatronics, and digital effects, with James Ortiz both performing and voicing the character. The approach clearly connected with audiences. The film opened to about $80.6 million domestic and roughly $141 million worldwide, making it Amazon MGM's biggest opening and the biggest opening weekend of 2026 so far. It was also produced at blockbuster scale, with reporting placing the budget around $200 million net. In Pohang, they are accosted by border guards before one of them, Du-Ho, reveals himself as Shaw's old friend. Du-Ho transports them to Alaska by plane; on the way, May infers from Bill Randa's files that Hiroshi was likely following a list of coordinates identified by Monarch. In Alaska, they find the wreckage of Hiroshi's plane as well as an encampment suggesting his survival. Du-Ho realizes that Hiroshi's plane was attacked after landing; a Frost Vark kills him and destroys his plane. In 1954, Shaw has joined Monarch in a command position. He, Randa, and Miura present a cast of Godzilla's footprint from Indonesia to Shaw's superior officer, Gen. Puckett, to secure uranium to lure Godzilla out of hiding. In Bikini Atoll, Randa and Miura are horrified to discover that Puckett has delivered the uranium in the form of a nuclear bomb intended to kill Godzilla as part of the Castle Bravo test. As Godzilla surfaces, Miura attempts to halt the detonation, but Shaw restrains her. In the aftermath, Shaw is given a blank check by Puckett for Monarch to research the Titans. Episode 4: Parallels and Interiors Summary In 2015, the Frost Vark's emergence was detected by Monarch. Cate, Kentaro, May, and Shaw manage to escape from the Frost Vark, but May falls into a pool of water and quickly develops hypothermia as they try to find shelter. Kentaro splits off from the rest of the group and finds a building that he saw from the plane, which turns out to be an old radio station that Hiroshi had previously repaired. Having learned that the Frost Vark feeds on heat energy, Cate, May, and Shaw create a bonfire to distract it, long enough for a helicopter that Kentaro contacted to arrive and rescue them. The group is taken to a Monarch facility, where they are greeted by Tim and Duvall. In 2014, Kentaro met May while waiting for his first art show at a prestigious gallery. He chooses to spend the evening with her instead of preparing for the show, and they bond. It's ultimately revealed that Kentaro decided to present his art before he was ready to do so, out of a desire to make his father proud, and that the night of the gallery was the last time he saw Hiroshi before the latter's disappearance. Episode 5: The Way Out Summary In 2015, Monarch deputy director Verdugo is frustrated to learn that Shaw had kept Cate, Kentaro, and May in the dark about the true nature of Hiroshi's activities in Alaska. Duvall suggests releasing the three to track their movements. After returning to San Francisco, Cate convinces her mother, Caroline, and Caroline's colleague James to smuggle them towards Hiroshi's office in a restricted zone of the city's ruins. Evading military patrols and dealing with Cate's PTSD, they eventually reach Hiroshi's office. While they fail to find further hidden files, Kentaro concludes from Hiroshi's maps that he likely headed to Africa in search of Titans. May secretly contacts Duvall, asking to go home in exchange for her cooperation. In 2014, two days before Godzilla's emergence, Cate was in a relationship with fellow teacher Dani. On G-Day, feeling guilt over having cheated on Dani, Cate chooses to leave her behind to escort a bus of children across the Golden Gate Bridge. Many of the children are killed when Godzilla destroys the bridge during his clash with the military. Infamous Shirts for Naked Bodies... She discovers that he had a second wife and a son, Kentaro, in Japan. Kentaro leads Cate to Hiroshi's office, where she discovers a safe containing files belonging to their grandfather, Monarch researcher Bill Randa. Seeking answers about Monarch's presence in San Francisco and Hiroshi's connection to them, Cate and Kentaro recruit Kentaro's ex-girlfriend May Olowe-Hewitt to decode the files. Monarch employee Tim is notified of their attempt. In 1959, Cate and Kentaro's grandparents, Bill Randa and Keiko Miura, follow radiation in Kazakhstan with fellow Monarch official Col. Lee Shaw. A local boy claims that the radiation is a cover story for the government drilling a hole through the earth. Randa and Miura discover that radiation levels drop to zero around a power plant, and that hollow caverns exist in the bedrock beneath it. Venturing inside, they discover eggs belonging to insectoid Endoswarmers. Miura and Shaw rappel down to collect genetic material from the eggs, but the Endoswarmers awaken and drag Miura into the caverns below. Episode 2: Departure Summary In 2015, Kentaro discovers Monarch files in Hiroshi's office indicating that Shaw, his great-uncle, moved to an assisted living facility in Japan. Tim and Monarch field operative Duvall track down Cate, Kentaro, and May in an attempt to find the decoded files, but they escape. Cate, Kentaro, and May go on the run and find Shaw, who reveals that the facility is a pretense for Monarch to keep him under house arrest. Shaw convinces them to escape from the facility and follow Hiroshi to his last known location in Alaska. In 1952, Shaw is assigned as Miura's escort on an expedition following unusual radiation in the Philippines. They meet Randa in the jungle, who claims to be following folk tales of a fire-breathing dragon. Miura recruits Randa against a skeptical Shaw's advice, and Shaw departs. Continuing alone, Miura and Randa discover the wreckage of the USS Lawton, a Navy ship that sank in 1943 from which Randa was the sole survivor. They discover corpses in the ship and are attacked by an Ion Dragon. Having seen the Ion Dragon's radiation-based fire, Shaw returns to rescue them from the ship. Infamous Shirts for Naked Bodies...
