Shama TatlerShama was the Labour candidate in Chingford and Woodford Green and almost unseated Iain Duncan Smith just a few weeks ago. Had it not been for an independent candidate standing in the seat, Shama would almost certainly have won. Shama describes her experience in full, including the abuse she faced and the misinformation spread about her. In an election when many candidates had to suffer a similar fate, Shama's story is a vital testimony of how abusive modern politics has become.SEE Matt at the Edinburgh Festival in August and on tour until March 2025: Matt Forde The End of an Era Tour202431 July - 25 August: Edinburgh, The Pleasance2 October: Norwich Playhouse3 October: Maidenhead, Norden Farm9 October: Middlesbrough, The Crypt10 October: London, Leicester Square Theatre24 October: Hull, Truck Theatre6 November: Exeter, Phoenix8 November: Tunbridge Wells, Trinity Theatre14 November: Basingstoke, The Haymarket15 November: Colchester Arts Centre20 November: York, The Crescent21 November: Chorley, Little Theatre22 November: Salford, The Lowry27 November: Chipping Norton Theatre28 November: Leicester, Y Theatre29 November: Eastleigh, The Berry31 November: Faversham, The Alexander Centre20254 February: Leeds, City Varieties5 February: Sheffield, The Leadmill6 February: Chelmsford Theatre7 February: Bedford, The Quarry Theatre12 February: Bath, Komedia13 February: Southend, Palace Theatre16 February: Cambridge, The Junction20 February: Nottingham, Lakeside Arts23 February: Brighton, Komedoa25 February: Cardiff, Glee Club26 February: Bury St Edmunds, Theatre Royal2 March: Bristol, Tobacco Factory11 March: Aberdeen, Lemon Tree12 March: Glasgow, Glee Club Hosted on Acast. Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi is a founding member of Jewish Voice for Labour and vice-chair of Chingford and Woodford Green Labour Party constituency. Jewish Voice's mission is to make the Labor more ethnically inclusive and to serve as a voice against all forms of racism and opposes the wrongs and injustices against Palestinians and other oppressed peoples. Naomi was also an elected member of the UK Labour Party's National Executive Committee (NEC) as part of the pro-Jeremy Corbyn contingent. However, she was expelled from the Committee in late 2022 due to her outspoken criticisms of antisemitic elements in the Labor Party. Jewish Voices also challenges that Zionist view that conflates all Jews as being Zionists. There was a video released with Naomi about a week ago that went viral on the internet, titled "the Wrong Kind of Jew" -- Jews who do not support the ideology of Zionism and side with the International Court of Justice's ruling of Israel committing humanitarian crimes against the Palestinians in Gaza.
In this episode of the Future Christian Podcast, guest host Martha Tartarnic sits down with Justin Anthony, the rector of Chingford (UK) parish, to delve into the nuances of leadership within the church and why our pervasive language around leadership is actually ill-defined and problematic. The conversation aims to invite careful and considered thought about how we talk about ministry in the church and why the language we use has in some important sense failed our faith communities. Justin Anthony is Rector of Chingford parish, and was until recently the Deputy Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome. He has worked in Alexandria, Virginia (as Dean of Students at a theological college), Canterbury (as Rector of a parish in the city), Oxford (as precentor of Christ Church Cathedral), and Cirencester (as curate and team vicar in the parish). He was born in Singapore, and educated there, in Germany, North Yorkshire, the LSE and Oxford. He has written three books as a sole author and contributed to others on issues of church life, ministry, and culture. As visitors walk through the doors of the newly reopened National Portrait Gallery in London, they will see 45 hand-drawn portraits of women by British artist Tracey Emin, that have been cast in bronze. They are said to represent every woman. Tracey speaks to Krupa Padhy about her creative process and what she hopes people will take away from the images. Society sets us up to fail, according to the academic Dr Faiza Shaheen. Dr Shaheen studied at Oxford University, became a leading statistician, is standing for election as the Labour party candidate for Chingford and Woodford Green and has written a book ‘Know Your Place'. Some might describe Shaheen's career as a personal success, evidence of working-class mobility, that anyone can do anything, but Shaheen thinks otherwise. She talks to Krupa about inequality in the UK. Stories have emerged in the French media of a man from Provence who allegedly drugged his unsuspecting wife every night so that scores of men could rape her. We haven't independently verified the story but French newspaper Le Monde is reporting that more than 50 men have been charged. Krupa is joined by Anglo-French journalist Benedicte Paviot to tell us more. In the final part of Woman's Hour series about women in India, Krupa looks at the rise of women skateboarders. Since its recent inclusion in the Olympic Games, skateboarding is becoming increasingly popular across the country. Atita Verghese is regarded as one of the pioneers of women's skateboarding in India. She started skating aged 19, when she was the only woman in the skatepark. In 2015, she founded the Skate Girl India project and talks to Krupa about the events she is organising across India to empower girls. A new exhibition at the V&A celebrates the creative power and cultural significance of the ‘diva'. With a mixture of fashion, photography, design, costume and music DIVA will celebrates the personal stories and resilience of some of the best-known divas; Marilyn Monroe, Tina Turner, Cher and Rihanna. Kate Bailey, curator of DIVA speaks to Krupa Padhy about what people can expect from the exhibition and why the concept of a diva still matters in our culture. In a return to scenes reminiscent of 2020, today's show saw Elis, John and Producer Dave broadcasting from a whole host of exotic locations; such as Cardiff, London and Cheadle Hulme. There isn't a soul on earth who knows how radio actually works, so let's just say it's thanks to the magic of "technology" that the guys were able to broadcast to you the you the listener. And yes, of course there was going to be the odd hiccup - but isn't that what's fun about live radio? There was an all-time great Shame Well, a Made Up Game right in Dave's wheelhouse, some more listener Hot Gossip... and Elis makes a catastrophic error whilst channelling his inner Chingford. (Disclaimer: head to the 5 Live website for the full, CORRECT schedule.)

Veterans In Politics- Season 4, Episode 2 with Sir Iain Duncan Smith MPFew politicians are known simply by their initials. IDS is one of the few 'big beasts' of politics remaining in Parliament. Something our host Jonny quizzes him on. It was a huge honour sitting down with Iain, a former Leader of the Opposition and of the Conservative Party. He's also known for his work on welfare reform, something he is clearly passionate about. We finish up the episode on this very topic, and he explains how he has worked cross-Party to deliver the work of the Centre for Social Justice.Of course, Iain is a veteran in politics, having served as a Captain in the Scots Guards. The military runs deep in his family, with his late father a fighter ace of World War Two, decorated on more than one occasion for bravery. Iain generously offers insight into the conversations he had with him about bravery, conversations he had before deploying on operations himself. It really is a privilege to be able to listen to this.About Iain:Sir Iain Duncan Smith was educated at Dunchurch College of Management, the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, the Universita per Stranieri in Perugia and HMS Conway in Anglesey. As part of the Scots Guards, Iain saw active service in Northern Ireland and Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and served in Canada and Germany. Iain later worked for GEC-Marconi, a defence company, and Bellwinch, a property company. He has also been on the board of Jane's Information Group, a publishing company. Iain married Betsy in 1982 and they have four children – Harry, Edward, Rosie and Alicia.Iain was elected Member of Parliament for Chingford in 1992, and he was re-elected in 1997 as Member of Parliament for the re-drawn constituency of Chingford and Woodford Green. Iain was promoted to William Hague's Shadow Cabinet in 1997. As Shadow Secretary of State for Social Security, Iain exposed Labour's hypocrisy and failure on welfare reform. When he was promoted to Shadow Defence Secretary, he exposed the Government's failure to give British forces sufficient funding and equipment. In 2001, Iain was elected Leader of the Conservative Party. After stepping down in 2003, he set up the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ), an independent think tank committed to tackling poverty and social breakdown. Iain worked tirelessly as Chairman of the CSJ until the 2010 General Election, when he was appointed Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. He served in this position until March 2016. Iain remains the Member of Parliament for Chingford and Woodford Green and is always happy to deal with constituents and their concerns.NOTE- Please rate us on Apple Podcasts, donate or become our mate on our website HERE: Donate - CampaignForce

Mike dumps Leanne from the villa and heads straight for Jess. Shaughna is angry with Mike but not angry enough to distract her from her mission of pushing Sophie out of the villa, too--or maybe she was just taking her anger out on Sophie. Luke M. does what he can to stop Mike from grafting but it's just not working, and Nas and Demi finally lock lips after breaking the ice in the sex position game. We tell the story of the Kray brothers, which somehow relates to Leanne's hometown of Chingford at the northern end of Greater London, and as per usual, talk outfits and rank the couples. My guest this week, in my first face-to-face interview since lockdown, is Justin Lewis-Anthony, Rector of Chingford. Justin talks about how he ended up doing a PhD with me and why the topic of leadership was something that made him angry. He refers to how cinema is the functioning mythological delivery system of the age and how many people expect Church leaders to function like John Wayne. Justin would rather teach people to be disciples. We discuss Bonhoeffer and Pratchett and Jesus films and what counts as a historical fact and being taught by David Starkey. Justin speaks about nostalgia as one of the processes whereby we apply meaning to things that have happened and we learn why Justin is suspicious about authenticity, and he draws on Little House on the Prairie to illustrate his point. We learn why he’s bored by dark superheroes and we find out about the problem with thinking of authenticity as an empirical standard and why it’s not a goal for human flourishing. We look at Robin Hood, Led Zeppelin, Dirty Dancing, Naked Gun 33 1/3, Rocky Horror and the relationship between nostalgia and reception theory. We talk about the problems of film and theology and operating within a canon and we move on to talk about escapism and Richard Curtis. It’s what we are escaping to that’s crucial to escapism, and we talk about its consumer delivery mechanism basis in films. Justin reveals why he isn’t crippled by memories of the past and having a sensitivity to one’s surroundings and history in the context of having a Welsh father. He talks about ‘disasters survived’ and recognizing one’s responsibilities to others rather than introspection, which we apply to Covid. He tells us why Flatliners is a film he walked out of due to the idea that we can manipulate death. At the end of the interview Justin talks about what it is that justifies his existence and the danger of living one’s life through one’s children. He discusses the importance of history and why there may not be much point in worrying about the future. Please note: Opinions expressed are solely those of Chris Deacy and Justin Lewis-Anthony and do not necessarily represent the views or opinions of the University of Kent.

Yowzers thias week we have another returning legendary guest to the show ready to serve up another mix of fine cuts & exquisite sounds to satisfy the most delicate of house pallets the smooth sounds of Mr Cook https://www.mixcloud.com/DJMRCOOK/ a name whos been on the scene for a long time a seriously heavyweight dj with a selection second to non who also hosts his fantastic sunday flex show on the legendary HouseFM.Net (Official) Mr Cook's love for music started at an early age. As soon as he thought he looked old enough he was out clubbing! At the tender age of 14 he attended his first rave and, like many kids his age he hung aro...und with, he knew this was the start of something very exciting. Sure enough, a friend had arranged tickets for him to the legendary Dance 91 at Pickets Lock. Prodigy performed live that night and ‘Charley' became the tune that stuck in his head. There was a real awakening that night for Ben and the very next day he decided that house music was where his heart would take him. To this day he insists that, that night changed his life. When the hardcore rave sound morphed and became a new genre called Drum & Bass Mr Cook's true musical taste began to unravel. Over time the D&B sound became darker and raving more dangerous, so Mr Cook would spend more time listening to the US garage and UK house sound older friends listened to. He went to Ibiza in 1994 with seven mates on a typically mad club 18-30 holiday and the Balearic house sound grabbed a hold of his soul! Back in London he took up DJing and started clubbing again at The Epping Forest Country Club which became his clubbing home up until its closure in 2002! In the early part of 1999 Cooky (as he is known to his mates) gained a residency on Saturday night's at a wine bar in Chingford, Essex. He started appearing on the east London based Shine FM pirate radio station. He would play soulful D&B and old skool house and garage with a couple old pals and they became the Out Cry Syndicate. The OCS express became essential listening for the local raver's on the manor. Ben fell in love with the whole pirate radio way of life and would spend up to 10 hours sometimes in the studio. The show eventually gained respect from the other people involved at the station and got great feedback from the public. Shine FM boosted his profile and soon enough Mr Cook was asked to play at the now infamous Sunshine Daze at the Scala, Kings Cross in London. Those series of parties sold out each time and Mr Cook became an in demand name on the scene in east London. He was also asked to play at the Warehouse in Edmonton & Faces nightclub in Essex. He was asked to play at the legendary BIG parties held by Ford house, the notorious after parties which ran from 5am until 3pm. After that, The Waterfront in Canary Wharf became the only place to be on Sunday nights and ran until 2am Monday morning… Ambition led him to move to another pirate station and after appearing for a while on Passion FM, the legendary Centreforce had reformed and was returning to broadcast underground music to the east London populace. He took up the challenge of Saturday's and would play marathon sets through out the night and sleepless weekend's DJing at BIG. When Centreforce decided to push for a legal license Cooky joined RINSE FM on Saturday nights appearing from 12midnight until 2am.from 2009 to 2012! Mr Cook has played at the world famous Fabric,Ministry of Sound, Hidden @ studio 33, The Scala, Seone, The Rhythm Factory, Herbal and Aquarium in Shoreditch, Last year he appeared on his first foreign DJ experience at the Beachlent event in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Mr Cook has the bug and his music can only be described as QUALITY UNDERGROUND! The world better take a listen… need i say any more come join us on Deepvibes Radio this sunday 3-5pm for some more house worship :) MR SHADOW
