In this episode, join Eric Sandler, Mary Clarkson, Michael Fulmer, Monica Danna, Ryan Lachaine, and Bobby Matos as they select their ultimate burger lineup!  Here's what the teams will be drafting: a Houston Burger Restaurant Burger, a Smash Burger, a Fancy Burger, Fries or Tots, a Milkshake, and a Wildcard. Definitions: Houston Burger Restaurant - A Houston-based restaurant that serves at least 3 different burgers or has build your own options that allow for lots of variety. Greater Houston-area suburbs (Katy, Woodlands, Sugar Land, Clear Lake, etc.) are considered "Houston".  Smash Burger - A style of cheeseburger made with patties that are flattened on a griddle and typically served as a double. Does not need to come from a Houston Burger Restaurant. Fancy Burger - The only burger served at a fine/fine-ish dining restaurant with full service. Likely costs more than $20. Fries/Tots - A potato side from a Houston Burger Restaurant Milkshake - A milkshake from a Houston Burger Restaurant. Wildcard - Any burger from any Houston restaurant, including chains, or any dish served at a Houston Burger Restaurant such as a hot dog, chicken sandwich, an additional side, etc.  The rules: once an individual dish from one restaurant is selected participants may not select any other dishes from that restaurant to fulfill the other categories. Participants six selections will be from six different restaurants. Then Abbas Dhanani of Burger Bodega joins the show to pick the Ultimate Houston Burger Draft winner. Abbas explains to Eric why [redacted]'s line up won, what he thought of the selections all around, what he would have selected had he participated, the vast amount of burger options in Houston, and more! Season 1 of “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” concludes with a band in flux. The Beatles had evolved significantly by 1968 from when they first released “Love Me Do.” Back then, they were only competing with the likes of Andy Williams, Little Stevie Wonder, and Peter Paul and Mary. But by the recording of the “White Album" The Beatles were up against acts on the charts with a more hard driving sound like Cream, The Who, and Sly and the Family Stone. Paul McCartney sensed an opportunity to jump into the fray himself and wrote a song that many consider to be the genesis of the hard rock and metal genres. “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” is a co-production between iHeart Media, MPL and Pushkin Industries. The series was produced by Pejk Malinovski and Sara McCrea; written by Sara McCrea; edited by Dan O'Donnell and Sophie Crane; mastered by Jason Gambrell with sound design by Pejk Malinovski. Eric Sandler is the Houston metro food editor for CultureMap, a digital media company that covers food, wine, entertainment, fashion, and sports. As part of his job, Eric stays current on trends and consumer preferences. “I have always been passionate about food, interested in dining and curious about food service," says Eric. "My job allows me to experience all areas of the restaurant industry and see things from the guest's point of view.”   In this episode, Eric explains how he covers the myriad faces of the restaurant community and what he finds interesting and newsworthy. Eric feels that COVID changed our relationship with restaurants and underscored the importance and necessity of providing meals via delivery and takeaway service. He views current industry challenges as balancing convenience with offering quality full-service experiences that guests seek after two years of social distancing.   "We are social people, and we seek communal experiences," says Eric. Despite increasing cost, labor and supply-chain challenges, Eric believes the industry will continue to expand. Diners are increasingly adventurous, creating demand for ethnic and other concepts that break the mold of typical fare. Learn more about Eric on his podcast "What's Eric Eating".
