INXS legends Jon Farriss and Kirk Pengilly join Gleeso on Triple M Nights to celebrate 40 years of Listen Like Thieves, the album that catapulted the Aussie rock icons to global stardom. First released in 1985, Listen Like Thieves marked the beginning of INXS’ game-changing collaboration with producer Chris Thomas — the man determined to bottle the band’s raw, live energy in a studio setting. “He was fascinated by how powerful we were live, and how we hadn’t captured that yet on record,” explains Kirk Pengilly. The result was a sonic turning point that redefined their sound and laid the groundwork for their future success with albums like Kick and X. Jon and Kirk also reflect on the 40th anniversary reissue, which has been meticulously remixed by Giles Martin — son of legendary Beatles producer George Martin — bringing new depth and clarity to the classic album. In a poignant moment, the boys open up about revisiting rare tapes and old recordings of their late bandmate Michael Hutchence, sharing the emotion and nostalgia of hearing his iconic voice again.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
With the pending May 9th release of the 40th anniversary Deluxe Edition of Listen Like Thieves, Bee and Haydn couldn't wait to provide their listeners around the globe a deep dive preview into the formats, track listings, special features and bonus material. But before we do, we revisit and discuss the original 1985 album release in all of its glory as the album represented INXS' first genuine international commercial success spearheaded by the infectious funk groove of “What you Need” that soared up the charts providing the musical template of things to come. Listen Like Thieves seemed like a guitar tour-de-force response to the perceived over- produced but iconic and brilliant The Swing album, re-creating the “live sound” that Producer, Chris Thomas, wanted to encapsulate. With tracks like Good & Bad Times, This Time and the eponymous title track, this mission was achieved. The 40th anniversary Deluxe Edition release features the brilliant Giles Martin and Paul Hicks on production, remixing and engineering duties utilize the modern Atmos Dolby Mix, brilliant liner notes by famed music journalist Paul Sexton and a remastering of the forgotten but famed Royal Albert Hall gig INXS performed in unison with the BBC. With pre- orders on vinyl and CD's available, get in early and place your orders to avoid missing out. 2025 af "What Goes On?" I Mono. Uden bog. Med andre ord - der nok at tage stilling til. God fornøjelse!

The group consisted of four members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The Beatles' journey began in the late 1950s when Lennon formed a skiffle group called The Quarrymen. McCartney and Harrison joined later, and the lineup eventually evolved into The Beatles. Ringo Starr replaced their original drummer, Pete Best, in 1962. The Beatles achieved unprecedented success and popularity during the 1960s, often referred to as the "Beatlemania" era. Their music was a blend of various genres, including rock and roll, pop, and later, elements of Indian music and psychedelia. They wrote and recorded numerous hit songs, becoming one of the most innovative and successful bands in the history of popular music. Some of their most famous albums include: 1. **"Please Please Me" (1963) 2. **"A Hard Day's Night" (1964):** The soundtrack to their first film. 3. **"Rubber Soul" (1965):** Marking a shift toward a more experimental sound. 4. **"Revolver" (1966):** Further experimentation and the use of studio techniques. 5. **"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (1967):** Widely considered one of the greatest albums of all time. 6. **"The White Album" (1968):** A double album with diverse musical styles. 7. **"Abbey Road" (1969):** Their final studio album, known for its iconic cover and medley of songs. The Beatles' legacy extends far beyond their music. They revolutionized the music industry, set new standards for songwriting, and influenced countless artists across genres. Their impact on popular culture, fashion, and social movements of the 1960s is immeasurable. The Beatles remain one of the most celebrated and enduring musical acts in history.
Did you know that George and Giles Martin have their own action figures? When Giles Martin saw the action figure that designer David McGurk created of his father, George Martin, he liked it so much that he arranged for it to sell in the Abbey Road store. That limited run of 100 action figures sold out within hours. David McGurk makes a variety of retro pop culture action figures through his company, Lightening Boltz Action figures. And George and Giles Martin aren't the only Beatles-related figures he's made. Some are of the Beatles themselves, but he also creates likenesses of people in the Beatles' wider circle like Paul McCartney's dad Jim Mac, and more recently, two versions of Brian Epstein. David joined us to about his work; his love of the Beatles; and his recent experiences with Giles Martin, Abbey Road Studios, and even Paul McCartney himself. November saw a fete of new Beatles releases and re-releases. So this month the Untitled Beatles Podcast begins a fab-four-course feast, guaranteed to be the toppermost of the ploppermost. We hope you like deep dish! A beginning… 1st Course: Amuse-bouche A Siskel & Ebert review of Peter Jackson's “Now and Then” music video 2nd Course: Deep Dish Disc One of the 2023 Edition of the Red Album 3rd Course: Deep Dish Disc Two of the 2023 Edition of the Red Album 4th Course: Deep Dish 2023 Edition of the Blue Album On its 50th anniversary, the latest Giles Martin demix-remixes are a sonic revelation for Beatle sniffers of all palettes. And as always, T.J. and Tony offer these questions to fab folk of a certain vintage:
For this holiday season, Beatles fans are treated to Giles Martin's remix of the Red album (and Blue album) compilation which was originally released in April, 1973. This new edition is compelling because fans can now engage with new versions of the group's earlier songs. And, if that wasn't enough exciting news, the single Now and Then has been recorded and released as the final bookend of the fab four's catalog. For both releases, Giles Martin used Peter Jackson's extraction technology to isolate the original instruments and vocals allowing greater access to each studio performance. In this episode, Karen and Jeff compare notes about the new Red Album remixes and sort through their emotional connections to Now and Then.
We continue our track-by-track deep dive of the Beatles' “Red” (1962–1966) and “Blue” (1967–1970) albums. In part two, we look at the second half of the Red album and the new tracks on Blue. Fifty years after their original release, Giles Martin has remixed these albums using the groundbreaking “MAL” audio technology, developed by Peter Jackson's team for the 2021 Get Back film. These sets expand on the original track list, for a total of 75 songs which include some of their earliest cover tracks, and add a number of George Harrison tracks—sorely lacking from the original. --------------------- +Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter/X for photos, videos, and more from this episode & past episodes — we're @bcthebeatles everywhere. +Follow BC the Beatles on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you're listening now. +Buy us a coffee! www.ko-fi.com/bcthebeatles +Contact us at bcthebeatles@gmail.com.
Here is our review and discussion of the new 2023 "Red" and "Blue" compliation albums featuring remixes by Giles Martin. "Now and Then" was followed up by the sort-of 50th anniversary of "Red and Blue". This week we look at three albums of goodness from the folks at Universal Music. The blue album is very much a compilation in the traditional sense - a nice sampler for the Giles Martin post-2017 remixes. This week we consider the additions to the collection, other choices that might have been made and what is that sound in "Hey Bulldog"
The newly-mixed Beatles' “Red” (1962–66) and “Blue” (1967–70) albums are here! We start our two-part deep dive with the first half of the “Red” album. Fifty years after their original release, Giles Martin has remixed these albums using the groundbreaking “MAL” audio technology, developed by Peter Jackson's team for the 2021 Get Back film. These sets expand on the original track list, giving us a whopping 75 songs. New additions include some of their earliest cover tracks, and add a number of George Harrison songs—sorely lacking from the original. We also delve into the crazy story behind why these albums exist in the first place, and examine why these particular sets have been catnip for new Beatles fans for over a generation.

Beatles producer Giles Martin is back! Giles joins us to talk “Now and Then,” the new Red and Blue re-releases, and… his personalized action figure? About Giles: Giles Martin is the mastermind behind the recent remixes of Sgt Pepper, the White Album, Abbey Road, Let it Be/Get Back, and Revolver, and the son of legendary producer George Martin. Most recently, he co-produced the last Beatles song “Now and Then” with Paul McCartney, and remixed the "Red" (1962–66) and "Blue" (1967–70) compilation albums, released this week. He began working on Beatles projects alongside his father, starting with the Beatles Anthology and later collaborating on the groundbreaking 2006 Love album, the mashup soundtrack for the Beatles-themed Cirque du Soleil production. Outside of the Beatles, Giles is the executive music director for the band INXS, music directed the 2019 Elton John biopic Rocketman, and created last summer's immersive, Dolby Atmos mix of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. Giles is currently the Head of Audio & Sound at Abbey Road Studios and the Senior Vice President in charge of Sound Experience for the home audio company Sonos. Giles is a two-time GRAMMY winner for his work on The Beatles' Love, and won an EMMY for his work on The Beatles' Get Back.

Calling all Chief Audio Officers–it's time for another all-new episode of the Media Roundtable: Special Edition! To give you the tools to ask the right questions, we're bringing you a deep dive into an issue that has plagued the industry since its inception - “What is a Download?” And we couldn't ask for a better group of guides on this journey. Joining him are fellow Oxford Road Luminary and VP of Media Operations, Miranda Romano, along with special guests Bryan Barletta, Partner and Founder at Sounds Profitable, and Pete Birsinger, CEO & Founder of Podscribe. The question of “What is a Download?” is a surprisingly tricky one. Our industry leaders have worked hard to ensure our podcast compasses are pointing north (or as close to it as possible). This is the story of how they did it, and what's next for all the CAOs who are navigating with these same tools.

Mind-blowing AI tools made it possible for The Beatles to release what they're calling their last song, "Now And Then." To mark the occasion, we're revisiting a conversation with producer Giles Martin, who used the same AI to remix the original mono recordings of The Beatles album Revolver.
IT'S HERE!! New Beatles music in...2023!?!?! What a time to be a Beatles fan. After blowing our collective minds with the Get Back documentary in 2021, Peter Jackson and co. have again used their MAL software to allow separation of John's vocal and piano from his original demo, solving the issue that seemed to have stalled the completion of this song in the 95 Anthology sessions. With the help of Giles Martin, Paul and Ringo have finally seen this one over the finish line, the last new Beatles song. It's a LOT to take in. From the song itself, to ithe controversial video, to the even more controversial single artwork, we wanted to discuss it all. So we decided to gather some Beatle pod friends to chat about after we had a couple of days to let it all sink in. We're joined by Allison of BC The Beatles, and Tommy, Becker, and RB of Blotto Beatles to let our thoughts out and see just how we're all feeling about this momentous moment in Beatles history. This past week the Beatles released a short making-of documentary, song, and video of their completed version of John Lennon's song "Now and Then." Dave and Chris discuss the genesis of the song, the recording, the documentary, and the video–and don't always agree! What do you think of the song? We also get into a discussion of the upcoming releases of 1962-66 and 1967-70, slated for next Friday, November 10. We discuss our feelings about the new "last" Beatles song - "Now and Then." Based off a demo John Lennon left on a cassette tape, Paul McCartney led the creation of this new single. We've got drums and vocals from Ringo, a little bit of acoustic guitar from George, and a George-inspired lead part from Paul, as well as contributions (over time) from producer Jeff Lynne, Giles Martin, the audio team with Peter Jackson and lots more. We try to separate sentiment from sonic quality and get into the details of the song itself. But then we dive right headfirst into the sentiment, because it's impossible to separate it out. We hear George chords, Chaos and Creation vibes, Anthology production and lots more in this. We also try to start an extremely unsubstantiated rumor that John wrote "For Paul" on the cassette and was thinking of Paul Stanley of KISS. Let's get that one going around.
We're back with our first impressions of the new “last Beatles song,” "Now and Then." ‘Now and Then' began as one of three demo recordings John Lennon made in the ‘70s, which Yoko gifted to the three surviving Beatles during the 1994 Anthology sessions. Work began on the track, with the goal of creating the first new Beatles song in decades, but it was abandoned due to the demo's poor sound quality. Thanks to the magic of Peter Jackson's groundbreaking Machine Audio Learning (“MAL”) technology, developed for the Get Back film, the song was finished in 2022 with original contributions from all four Beatles. Mixed and produced by Giles Martin, ‘Now and Then' is accompanied by expanded, remixed releases of the seminal “Red” (1962–66) and “Blue” (1967–70) compilation albums. --------------------- + Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter/X for photos, videos, and more from this episode & past episodes — we're @bcthebeatles everywhere. + Follow BC the Beatles on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you're listening now. + Buy us a coffee! www.ko-fi.com/bcthebeatles + Contact us at bcthebeatles@gmail.com.
The old is evaporating very slowly, and the new is trying to find its footing, but nothing is quite where it's going to land for a long period of time.” Dan Granger, Oxford Road Founder and CEO Calling all Chief Audio Officers–it's time for another all-new episode of the Media Roundtable: Special Edition! Leading us once again is Oxford Road Founder and CEO, Dan Granger. Joining him are fellow Oxford Road Experts Miranda Romano, James Ingrassia, Jennifer Laine, and Giles Martin. Last week in New York, Oxford Road hosted the Chief Audio Officer Measurement Forum, but there were so many good takeaways that we knew we needed to share out the learnings with the wider CAO community. We're talking verification, brand safety and suitability, and a personal favorite of ours–attribution. Let's get in the weeds as we distill insights from 20 or so CAOs just like you.
"Sometimes simpler is better, even though it doesn't make you feel as smart." Paul Hillen, VP, Performance Marketing, SKIMS This week, we have another of our favorite sessions from the Chief Audio Officer Summit - the attribution panel. We have some big thoughts on attribution, and this panel was the perfect way to continue the conversation. Our very own Giles Martin moderates with audio attribution veterans Paul Hillen (SKIMS), Vanessa Stark (Senior Marketing Manager, Performance Marketing, Instacart), and Jessica Tennant (SVP of eCommerce, Hello Bello). They're some of the best in making sure they know what their audio ad dollars are up to, so let's see what they're doing right––and add their top tips to your CAO toolbelt.
¿Què Pasa, New York? Mornings, on WXTV, Univision 41, Nueva York! But also, that's a refrain from arguably the most commercially viable song from John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band's “Some Time In New York City”. So why wasn't the semi-title track a single? Why didn't it lead off the album; not enough racial epithets in the title? And who in the love of Danza decided “Angela” - a heart-wrenching tribute to Judith Light - belongs on ANY Lennon comp? So many preguntas! Què Pasa, indeed! Fortunately/Maybe (#Oasisish) it's time for part two of the highly anticipated CHICAGO STYLE deep-dish of one of the most derided solo Beatles albums this side of “The Family Way” soundtrack! And as if this 2LP set isn't long enough - the Giles Martin deluxe remix is slated to include the full 117 minute version of “Au” - the UBP's very own Cap'n Jamrag and Lt. Scumbag (#PossibleForestGumpReference), to answer these, and more!

Broken Record with Rick Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam and Justin Richmond
Today we have part two of Rick Rubin's conversation with producer and composer, Giles Martin. In part one, Giles talked about his delicate work remastering classic Beatles albums. Today we'll hear Giles talk about his dad, Sir George Martin, who never second guessed his own genius. Giles also shares hilarious stories from his time as a teenager living at his father's storied studio that was destroyed by a volcano in the Caribbean. Plus, he talks about the time he was fired and then rehired by Martin Scorsese. Today, Sonos announced a new line of speakers — the Era 100 and the Era 300 — with the latter finally taking on this format that has been a hit-or-miss experience for music lovers, supporting Amazon Music and Apple Music's spatial audio. Though spatial format Dolby Atmos has been supported on the Sonos Arc soundbar, the Era 300 signals a music-first approach to its speakers supporting 3D soundscapes. Sonos CEO Patrick Spence believes this is the right time to do it. “We didn't know that, in 2022, 85 of the top Billboard 100 artists would actually release Atmos tracks, but they did,” Spence says. “We feel like we're at an inflection point.” On board with Sonos for this shift in music listening is record producer Giles Martin, who mixed the first-ever spatial audio album (a remix of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles album that his father, George Martin, originally produced) and several albums and live experiences in Dolby Atmos since. Martin is also the senior vice president of sound experience at Sonos and was involved in the development of the speaker. “When you're building a product which has multi sort of use and orientations, you do prioritize ... in a way of, what's the wow factor?” Martin explains. “The wow factor, which I think is truly extraordinary out of the 300, is the fact that it does spatial out of a single box. And it's really compelling.” Both Patrick and Giles joined Verge editor-in-chief Nilay Patel for The Vergecast to talk about the new speakers, supporting spatial audio, and why this is the time to do it. Broken Record with Rick Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam and Justin Richmond
Giles Martin may be the son of famed Beatles record producer Sir George Martin, but he's also an acclaimed producer and composer in his own right. He's worked on projects with The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Metallica, and is celebrated for his work remastering albums from The Beatles, including Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road, and The White Album. Last October Giles' remaster for Revolver was released along with never-before-heard home demos and outtakes from The Beatles. Giles was able to separate the original 1966 mono recording tracks with the help of director Peter Jackson's audio team, who used AI technology. Giles' resulting mix allows listeners to hear the original recordings with clarity and precision like never before. On today's episode Rick Rubin talks to Giles Martin about his approach to remastering the Beatles and the responsibility that comes along with it. Giles also talks about growing up in the music industry, why he didn't have a stereo in his house as a young boy, and how he became his dad's ears in studio sessions after his father lost his hearing. The technology used to remix the 56-year-old album is hard to fathom. But, with the help of producer Giles Martin, Revolver now sounds like a brand new album from a young band still putting out records.
