https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking tune into this week's Astro News You Can Use podcast with Sheri Horn Hasan discussing this past week's astro-influenced events & what's yet to come, including the results of Mercury & Venus's stations direct!Astrologer Sheri Horn Hasan first looks back at how the April 4 first-quarter “crisis in action” waxing monthly lunar cardinal square of the Cancer Moon to the Aries Sun spurred people into action under the mantra of “Hands Off!” If you're a regular podcast listener, you'll have heard on this podcast before the statement that when enough people are affected personally, that's when they will take to the streets in large numbers. Well, that's what an estimated 5.2 million of them did—old, young, and in between—to tell the current U.S. Government “hands off” my medical care & research, my social security, my educational opportunities, my job, my civil rights, right to bodily autonomy, and so much more. Meanwhile Mercury's station direct in Pisces on April 7 seems to have proven what Erin Sullivan says in her book “Retrograde Planets, Traversing the Inner Landscape,” which is that it marks a time to “engage in observation and begin to pay attention.” Well, hard not to pay attention to U.S. President Trump's on-again off-again tariff threats against ALL U.S. trading partners—that resulted in putting the U.S. stock market--& by association global markets—into free fall this past week.Trump is a Gemini Sun/Uranus, which in its lowest manifestation is far more than “mercurial”--& as has been proven throughout his time in the presidency--to be erratic & mayhem-oriented. So, the whipsaw like back and forth on tariffs during both Mercury & Venus retrograde periods should really be no surprise. (This podcast highlights how the recent Mercury retrograde period triggered an important T-square in Trump's chart, so give it a listen!)What's changing now, however, is how undeniably obvious this has become as well as how potentially disruptive to both the U.S. & global trade & economy. With Mercury now direct, however, we've seen yet again additional changes in plans from the U.S. Government vis-à-vis tariffs. What's becoming more and more obvious, however, to even the average news absorber, is that Trump's assumption that his tariffs will succeed when they've been historically proven to weaken America's dollar, lead to losses for American companies, & create turmoil in the financial markets, is their complete unworkability. We approach now the April 12 Libra Full Moon, which occurs at 23'20' Libra in opposition to the Aries Sun conjunct wounded healer Chiron, while they all form a cardinal T-square to Mars in Cancer. Less than an hour later Venus stations direct in Pisces, telling us it's time to check in on the status of our partnerships. Can you spell "F-R-U-S-T-R-A-T-I-O-N?" As both Venus & Mercury begin to gather speed in their forward trajectory, we can see more clearly the results of how these astrological energies are currently playing out, at least here in America. This lunation highlights that we have here a “wounded king/ruler/autocrat wanna-be” facing opposition from the “people,” who desire to be more partnership-oriented with the rest of the world rather than less.In essence, this lunation—which has the Libra Moon reflecting back to the wounded Sun its own light—asks us to release any tendencies toward an “it's my way or the highway” type leadership that leads only to opposition, and to begin to negotiate & compromise. This becomes difficult, however, since what's wounded the Aries Sun is its lack of ability to back down in the face of having proactively made disastrous decisions. We look forward now to Mercury reentering Aries on April 16 or 17, depending on your time zone, and Mars reentering Leo April 17/18. Will Trump double down on his losing proposition to impose 145% tariffs on Chinese imports as China ups the ante by raising its tariff rates on U.S. goods to 125 percent on April 12? Especially when economists already know that this kind of trade war will result in higher prices for American consumers. “China's factories produce more than those in the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Britain combined, and many of the products imported to the United States come from China,” according to the New York Times. And that's not mentioning how the U.S. House of Representatives managed to pass a continuing budget resolution on April 10, as we waxed toward the Libra Full Moon, that will keep Trump's 2017 tax cuts for billionaires & cut trillions from government services. This passed 216 to 214, with zero democrats voting for it & two republicans jumping ship to side with the democrats. This podcast discusses the arduous task ahead for Congress to rectify the House & Senate versions of this bill, along with how it will result in growing opposition by an ever-enlarging group of those who'll be personally affected by such cuts. Especially those who don't believe their elected officials promises not to cut government funding for Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, federal jobs, disease research, veteran's benefits, and so much more…Tune in to https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking for all of this, plus more Astro News You Can Use, including how this Venus retrograde period has resulted in seriously impactful partnership re-alignments & weakened America's reputation as a financially stable & reliable partner. And, a deeper discussion of the greater meaning of this year's future Mercury retrogrades through the fire element & how we can use this energy to our advantage moving forward. See you later! This week, I had a chance to chat with Professor Erin Sullivan (Harvard Medical School and Suffolk University) about physician and provider burnout, a problem that is getting worse and negatively impacting all of us. How did this happen and what can we do about it?
STARTING TODAY TUNE IN TO https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking WITH SHERI HORN HASAN as we look back at all the mind-boggling Astro News You Can Use this past week & what's coming next!We start with the Pisces New Moon monthly lunar cycle which squared Jupiter in Gemini back on February 27 & led to the overly enthusiastic yet expansively arrogant dramatic reception by President Donald Trump & vice president J.D. Vance in the White House on February 28.It seemed back then like things were only going downhill from there-- what with unelected billionaire Elon Musk in charge of gutting federal governmental services that U.S. citizens rely on under the guise of eliminating waste & fraud. Moving fast and breaking things his specialty, Musk didn't take long to fall out of favor with Americans suffering from his financial cuts by the time we reached the March 6 first quarter lunar crisis in action mutable square of the Gemini Moon to the Pisces Sun. Musk's reply?“Everybody's talkin' at me, I don't hear a word they're saying…”Things were in flux all right, and by the time of the March 7/8 Pisces Sun trined Mars—by then direct in Cancer since February 23—it was clear that everything was not going to be ok. It slowly began to dawn on larger numbers of people that America's current situation was not sustainable and that a radical change would be necessary for the future, as Erin Sullivan defines this aspect in her book “Retrograde Planets.” By March 8, U.S. green card holders—legally allowed to live and work here--were being arrested without being charged with a crime or the right to an attorney & sent to harsh ICE prisons. By March 9, both Americans and Canadians were fed up—the former with Musk's federal job & funding cuts beginning to reverberate negatively throughout society & the latter as the U.S. president refused to shut up about making Canada America's 51st state--& began attacking Tesla dealerships.Meanwhile, lawsuits against the Trump administration's actions began to deluge the courts and now total 146. Approximately one-third of these are now under judicial restraints via various judges' rulings against federal employee firings, the defunding of Congressionally approved programs, veterans' healthcare and other benefits, and so much more. With Venus already retrograde in Aries since March 1 & Mercury having stationed retrograde in Aries 14/15--just after the first Virgo Full Moon lunar eclipse on March 13/14—it seemed inevitable that the truth was beginning to dawn even on those who'd voted for this current administration of billionaires. Not to mention their GOP Congressional sidekicks who'd by then become too afraid to hold public town halls with their angry constituents. However, since the Sun/Neptune conjunction in Pisces March 19 & the Sun's entrance into Aries at the spring equinox March 20, a shift began to take place. Such an obvious lack of compassion of the “let them eat cake” kind, combined with a callous inattention to detail, began to give way by the time the Sun's entrance into Aries called us all into the fight.Since they, we've been morphing away from delusional Piscean energy & toward the higher Piscean manifestation of empathy, & into a more proactive “fight for the right to have rights!” Aries battle cry. And with Venus retrograde have reached her inferior conjunction with the Sun in Aries March 22, we're now, by March 29, at the heliacal rising at time when global leaders tend to lose their heads, so to speak…At the Sun joined Mercury in Aries on March 24—usually an important announcement of some kind from or about leaders, as I noted in last week's podcast—we learned about how top secret U.S. military classified information was disseminated via the unprotected Signal chat app. As we move closer to early May's conjunction between transiting Uranus and “off with his head” fixed star Algol, no surprise that calls for the resignation of our current Pisces Moon Defense Secretary are, in true Aries fashion, getting louder by the day. My March 26's Mars square to wounded healer Chiron, it was obvious how this incident “wounded” our military by weakening its defenses through allowing those listening (are you listening Russia? How about you China? Oh, and what about Iran?) as one of the participants on that chat was actually IN Moscow on an unsecured line at the time. Are ya wakin' up yet, folks? Now as we approach tomorrow's Aries New Moon solar eclipse--& this eclipse series is a physically themed one which has already been filled with accidents, fires, military attacks, etc.—it also brings both luminaries together in alignment—both heart and mind. And Saturn sextiles Uranus now, telling us we have the opportunity to bring revolutionary forces together to try to heal some of the current wounds sustained through the Mars/Chiron square. Remember, this is all under the guise of the current U.S. Pluto return, which ain't gonna be over til it's over, and that's a long way off. Let's use this Aries New Moon solar eclipse to organize the troops necessary, to partner with those who need the most defending from harm, and not give up until the job is done…For this and more Astro News You Can Use, tune into https://www.karmicevolution.com/ See you then! TUNE IN TO https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking to hear up to date Astro News You Can Use by Sheri Horn Hasan who discusses the deeper meanings of March's upcoming whirlwind of heavenly events! This podcast looks back at how the ideological fundamentalism of last month's Aquarius New Moon & Leo Full Moon square Uranus & Juno has shifted our major alliances. And how the February 27 Pisces New Moon planted seeds of greater empathy for those negatively affected by an idealistic Aquarian vision carried out in haste that's causing shifts in perspective & allegiances.Mars' station direct on February 23 has provided the martial impetus and the energy for our newly awakened inner warrior to rise up and take action to protect not only ourselves but those less able to defend & protect themselves. As it gains speed, however, Mars is currently giving us all even more reason to fight against the new U.S. administration's attempts to eliminate diversity, equity, & inclusion in its military & to decimate our legal & other governmental foundations. Mars' influence became obvious with the recent firings of the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a Black man & the Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first woman to hold the post and the first female member of the Joint Chiefs. Mars full speed ahead also resulted in the firing of three judge advocates general, also known as “JAGs”--who provide independent legal advice to senior military officers so that they do not run afoul of U.S. law or the laws of armed conflict. The danger here lies with the fact that the current commander in chief of the armed forces is Donald Trump, who during his last administration wanted to use the military to shoot Black Lives Matter protestors. He is now setting the stage to be able to do exactly that—next time protestors take to the streets. Then there's Venus stationing retrograde March 1 through April 12, when Venus will move back from Aries into Pisces. This is a period during which--according to Jungian astrologer Erin Sullivan in her book “Retrograde Planets”--we begin a time of global review. Between now and the inferior conjunction of the Aries Sun with Venus retrograde on March 22, & its heliacal rising March 28/29, is when “the reconsideration of what is diplomatic, & what is necessary to maintain a balanced world view & sense of integrity, is precisely what happens” to us both individually & collectively, Sullivan says. Both she and astrologer Bruce Scofield have predicted certain events may happen during this time—tune in to find out more!Mercury's entrance into Mars-ruled Aries March 3 adds some fuel to the fire of any backlash against what's happening now & what may occur during Venus's retrograde period. On March 11 the two will conjoin in Aries. Given that Mercury's communication & Venus rules finances, is it possible a budget reconciliation plan will be agreed upon & passed by the U.S. Congress before a looming shut down on March 14 when the first eclipse of the season hits? And might this budget plan cause even more distress as major portions of U.S. citizen's safety nets--be they Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, or simply your job as a federal employee or through a federally funded grant--be axed from the new budget? This podcast reviews also the deeper meaning of transiting Uranus in Taurus--as Venus, the current dispositor of Uranus, will retrograde through Mars-ruled Aries starting March 1—& we enter a period of review of our core values. We discuss how Uranus in Taurus since 2018 has changed our relationships to others, to our work/jobs, to our resources over time, and how Uranus, the planet of unexpected change, is headed back to conjoin “off with his head” fixed star Algol circa May 4.It's clear that heads have been rolling all over the place--both globally & domestically. And that's been especially true since Uranus first came close to Algol last July & then, after its normal annual five month retrograde period since September 1, 2024, stationed direct on January 30. Will heads continue to roll until May? Or until the final Uranus/Algol meet-up in February 2026? Taking all bets now…For more on this & other important Astro News You Can Use, including the deeper meaning of the upcoming set of March eclipses, check out https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking when a new Karmic Evolution's Astrologically Speaking! podcast drops at 11 a.m. PT & 2 p.m. ET February 28. JOIN SHERI HORN HASAN @KARMIC EVOLUTION DOT COM WHEN TODAY'S “KARMIC EVOLUTION'S ASTROLOGICALLY SPEAKING!” for all of this & more Astro News You Can Use!First we review what went down during the balsamic period of last month's lunar cycle, then discuss the August 4 Leo New Moon & Mercury's station retrograde in Virgo from the lens of the upcoming American presidential election.Could it be that Mercury retrograde in Virgo asks us to reevaluate our attitude toward whether or not a woman can be president? Especially given that Virgo's traditionally an archetypal sign representing, among other things, the girl next door & “the virgin” (which of course applies to females and not males in this patriarchal world we've been living in for so long.)Next we look at the energies inherent in the upcoming new synodic cycle when Mars meets Jupiter in Gemini & Mercury retrograde reenters Leo August 14. Will our gung ho attitude be slowed by Mercury Rx AND frustrated since Mars also squares Saturn in Pisces late on August 14/early August 15?And might this frustration relate to resistance (Saturn) to the motivation (Mars) to electing a female as the head of state here in the U.S.? And might such resistance prove frustrating to many who support electing the first American female head of state? As always, however, Mars/Saturn frustration is best relieved by slow, concentrated, hard work!Next we turn our attention to the upcoming repeat of Mercury retrograde in Leo square to Uranus in Taurus & the Leo Sun's conjunction with Mercury retro in Leo—on August 18. We might remember this Mercury direct square to Uranus just after the July 21 Capricorn Full Moon & how the world was rocked by President Joe Biden's sudden announcement he was dropping out of the presidential race. So, what will it be this time? And might it be related to the scare the world felt when the stock market took a sudden dive on August 2 (given that Venus squared Uranus that day) and then continued its downward movement as Venus quincunxed Pluto August 5 (signifying the need for an adjustment?)So, might the August 18 Mercury Rx/Uranus square & Leo Sun/Mercury Rx conjunction lead us to a repeat of some sort of sudden, possibly shocking announcement? Perhaps related to the announcement of an interest rate drop by U.S. Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell BEFORE the expected date in September--especially since Venus squares Jupiter August 18 too?Join us at KARMIC EVOLUTION DOT COM as we explore all of these astro energies as they relate to the news, and more! Especially as we look also at the deeper meaning of the current Mercury retrograde cycle (which ends August 24) as he begins to enter the fire element for the rest of the year and beyond! Are we tasked to ask ourselves now—as renowned Jungian astrologer Erin Sullivan suggests in her book “Retrograde Planets, Traversing the Inner Landscape”--“How can my inspiration create my future?” Much food for thought so be sure to join us & have a listen as we take a deeper dive into all this & more ! JOIN SHERI HORN HASAN @KARMIC EVOLUTION DOT COM FOR THIS WEEK'S ASTRO NEWS YOU CAN USE PODCAST @ 11 a.m. PT & 2 p.m. ET to learn more about how heavenly movements affect us all…The Leo Full Moon, followed January 26 by the exact square of the Aquarius Sun to Jupiter, warns us to not get overly optimistic about who seems to be the current GOP leader in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. That's because Uranus's January 26/27 station direct in Taurus may change our perspective by “making us conscious of imperfection,” as Erin Sullivan puts it.Join us for a wider discussion of this & more Astro News You Can Use, including a look at Nikki Haley's chart, which reveals how—just like in U.S. House speaker Mike Johnson's chart—her Nodal axis was hit by as square from the October 28 lunar eclipse. Both will have the upcoming March 25 lunar eclipse in Libra trine their Aquarius North Nodes so we may not want to count either of them out just yet, we shall see…Meanwhile, as Venus has joined Mercury & Mars in Capricorn, the latter two conjoin January 27, bringing messages from the military generals in Israel that the plan to eradicate Hamas entirely is all but impossible. Mars in Capricorn, known as “the general” has sent messenger Mercury to negotiate a new Israeli ceasefire/withdrawal & hostage release in the form of CIA director William Burns. All this as the Mars & Mercury squares to wounded healer Chiron in Aries continues to reveal the worsening conditions in Gaza in terms of lack of food, water, & medicine as disease begins to spread.Meanwhile, we discuss too how the upcoming April 8 solar eclipse in Aries energy may begin to manifest now because the Nodes have already hit the sensitized eclipse degree of 19'24” Aries! June 1, 2017: Mommi was born. Former Autostraddle writer Erin Sullivan and current Autostraddle managing editor Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya co-wrote an article titled, “Mommi Is the New Daddy” and our lives were never the same. Whether you are a mommi, like to date mommis, or are just an admirer from afar, we all have reasons to appreciate this gay archetype named a mere five years ago. But amid all this mommi madness, what about the actual moms? Some moms are mommis, but, of course, not all. And while we love to discuss mommis, moms — like people with actual children — are sometimes left out of the gay dating convo. And that's why we're so excited that for our season two premiere we have Autostraddle's director of operations — and real-life mom — Laneia Jones to talk to Christina and I about all things dating as a mom. Alpha Universe editor Christopher Robinson connects with travel writer and photographer turned macro world shooter, Erin Sullivan (@erinoutdoors). In Tech Talk, we’ll go through of the best camera settings for macro photography. And we get some Do This Now tips from Erin Sullivan for anyone looking to create their own macro world in quarantine. Erin Sullivan is frequently on the move. When the coronavirus lockdowns started in March and travel became impossible, she got creative and brought the outdoors indoors. Erin purchased some HO- and N-scale model railroad figures and, within the confines of her apartment, she started to craft macro scenes. Through her macro lens, Erin created places where she could let her mind wander and explore. Through the hashtag #ourgreatindoors she invited her community and the whole world to come along on a journey during quarantine. The idea has caught on in a big way and Erin has been featured on television, online and in print. We spoke from our respective coronavirus home offices over Skype. See more including our step by step camera setup guide for macro at alphauniverse.com.

I’m originally from a suburban town in Connecticut. Growing up, I was not outdoorsy. I didn’t know anyone who traveled regularly. I didn’t have a role model who was exploring the world. But throughout school, I had a curiosity about the world that would not go away. I wanted to travel and explore, meet people from other countries who had a different life experience than mine. I picked up my first camera at 15 and learned how to process film. Photography was a creative outlet for me, and gave me a way to document things as I saw them. In college, my love for photography faded into the background while I discovered my passion for the outdoors and environmental science. When I was 19, I went on my first wilderness expedition. It was one of the more challenging things I’d ever done. It changed my life and I’ve been hungry for more ever since

Playwright Mark Ravenhill challenges our adulation of the Bard and asks: Is Shakespeare's genius beyond question? Casting a sceptical eye over centuries of bardolatry, Ravenhill calls for a new approach to the plays. Exploring the intellectual tradition that has seen important figures from Voltaire to Tolstoy to Wittgenstein challenge Shakespeare's supremacy, Ravenhill searches for today's dissenting voices. Tracing the transformation of a working playwright into a national poet, global brand and secular god, Ravenhill asks if it's still possible to enjoy Shakespeare without being overwhelmed by the cultural and commercial baggage of 'brand Shakespeare'. Meeting Royal Shakespeare Company Artistic Director Gregory Doran, theatre director Phyllida Lloyd and actors Simon Russell Beale and Fiona Shaw, Ravenhill explores what Shakespeare's plays mean to theatre-makers today and asks if Shakespeare is a problem for a contemporary theatre which seeks to give an equal representation of women's experience of the world. Joining RSC actors in a primary school for a performance of Taming Of The Shrew, Ravenhill wonders if a play of such dark and complex sexual politics is really suitable material for ten-year-olds. Scholar Ania Loomba describes India's changing relationship with Shakespeare, while Professor Gary Taylor talks about the ambivalence of large parts of America toward the Bard. Other interviewees include: playwrights Edward Bond and Howard Barker, RSC Deputy Artistic Director Erica Whyman, Shakespeare academics Ewan Fernie, Dr Martin Wiggins, Michael Dobson and Dr Erin Sullivan of the University of Birmingham Shakespeare Institute. With readings by Amanda Drew and Paul Ritter. Producer: Matt Willis

The Great American Eclipse is coming on August 21, 2017 and will traverse the entire mid-section of the United States. While eclipses do not necessarily bode an ill-wind, they are powerful archetypal reminders of our place on the planet and how we are responsible. Two giant slow moving planets are in a tense square and will be for some time to come. These two planets represent a dichotomy of drive and desire. Saturn wants to resolve and correct, while Neptune wants to obfuscate and distract. How do we reconcile this disparity? When we glance out at the world's stage we see this playing out in every corner where conflict reigns. Listen as host and astrologer speaks with colleagues Erin Sullivan and Michael Lutin on this daunting alignment. Both Lutin and Sullivan are known for their long-term views of the planet and are highly regarded as experts in the observation of the cosmos. Saturn has long been regarded by astrologers as the heavy. Often seen as the taskmaster, Saturn is the time keeper and the essence of responsibility, duty, and sobriety. In this segment, astrologer and host, Chris Flisher, discusses this and other related topics with world-renowned astrologer, Erin Sullivan.

Modern day Jungian's are deeply influenced by astrology.
