Joining me for the latest episode of The Grant Williams Podcast is my old mate Tommy Thornton of Hedge Fund Telemetry and, in a market increasingly driven by speculation and the allure of quick riches, we discuss whether investors are playing a dangerous game as a “gambler's mentality” grips Wall Street – making excessive risk and leverage the norm. Tommy also challenges the prevailing narrative of ever-rising stock prices and questions the disconnect between market valuations and the underlying fundamentals of many companies. From Nvidia's AI-fueled ascent to the precarious perch of Tesla's insane valuation, Tommy delves into the potential for market volatility to return with a vengeance, and the complex challenges facing the Federal Reserve and the economic policies of the incoming Trump administration. Every episode of the Grant Williams podcast, including This Week In Doom, The End Game, The Super Terrific Happy Hour, The Narrative Game, Kaos Theory and Shifts Happen, is available to Copper, Silver and Gold Tier subscribers at my website www.Grant-Williams.com.  Copper Tier subscribers get access to all podcasts, while members of the Silver Tier get both the podcasts and my monthly newsletter, Things That Make You Go Hmmm… Gold Tier subscribers have access to my new series of in-depth video conversations, About Time.

His long term focus on sentiment indicators borders on the obsessive. Our growing team at Hedge Fund Telemetry is comprised of current and former buy and sell side individuals. Hedge Fund Telemetry was first conceived with inspiration from Tom's lifelong passion following Formula 1 racing. In the early 90's, Formula 1 teams started to equip cars with sensors on every imaginable component and data was relayed wirelessly through telemetry to the pits to analyze and then instructions from the pits were relayed back to the driver so he could make changes to find the optimal balance for the car. It has always been the same way for Tom, as a senior trader at his hedge fund, he would get in early, collect data from many sources, analyze that data, and then communicate information out to his firm so his team could properly balance the firm's portfolio. It's now our goal to relay that same type of information so that one can also gain that edge. Follow @TommyThornton Looking for style diversification? Scaling out from recent price action and a broader discussion of positioning, Andreas and Tommy talk about current economic data, including a decline in initial claims for unemployment benefits and an upside surprise from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's monthly manufacturing index for August. Stocks today seem to reflect a strong start to earnings reporting season. According to Bloomberg, 38 of the 48 S&P 500 components that have reported so far have posted positive surprises. Earlier in the day, the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note touched 2.93%, a level the benchmark rate hasn't seen since 2018, as bond investors continue to price in the impact of Federal Reserve efforts to fight inflation. U.S. natural gas prices eased off after hitting 13-year highs ahead of an unusual April snowstorm in the Northeast. The Federal Reserve was already staring down an inflation problem well before Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops into Ukraine. One month into the war, there's no clear end in sight. And constraints on key commodities will continue to drive prices and spur the creation of new supply chains. The Fed launched its tightening cycle with a 25 basis point increase to the fed funds target rate. The futures market is now pricing in a 50-basis-point move in May. Equity markets remain volatile. But the most interesting action may be in the bond market, where prices are falling faster than they have in decades as investors account for the Fed's absolute focus on showing its commitment to fighting inflation. President Joe Biden is in Brussels to meet with NATO counterparts about Russia and Ukraine. But there are no easy answers for that conflict. DB-Apr27,2021: Real Vision senior editor Ash Bennington joins Tommy Thornton, founder of Hedge Fund Telemetry, to discuss his current take on markets. Thornton explains the thin trading volume for this past month as sentiment remains high, and he explores Goldman Sachs’ newly published economic forecast, which cautions that there will be quarter-over-quarter GDP declines going forward even while the U.S. economic backdrop grows stronger. Bennington and Thornton also debrief Coinbase’s direct listing and his perspective on the growth of the crypto space, and they tackle Thornton’s thoughts on the Chinese tech sector and where he sees investible opportunities. Finally, he talks about energy as one of the best reopening bets out there and shares how he’s positioning his trades. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
