George was quite busy between "All Things Must Pass" and "The Concert for Bangladesh". However, many of the things he played on were not under his own name! We look at two projects where George was a significant contributer: Gary Wright's "Footprint", and Billy Preston's "I Wrote a Simple Song". Excellent playing, and a link between George's Beatles guitar-playing, his work on "All Things Must Pass", and his turn on John Lennon's "Imagine" (when he finally turned back to his own projects with "Living in the Material World!")

We all have a point at which we will quit… give up on the task we are trying to accomplish. That task can be mental, emotional, or as this old coach is accustomed to… physical. Getting my athletes to that quitting point was absolutely essential to the training I put them through. Not only do I believe it is important for us to give it our all, to the point that we can go any longer, I also believe that the willingness to get there has diminished significantly over the last 4 decades. And I have reasons why I believe that is happening I quickly learned as a young coach, all those years ago, what is probably the most important part of coaching…. And it translates exceptionally from athletics to life. My objective was developing developing superior mental toughness. To make my guys quitting point outlast their opponent. The mind I find gives up long before the body, mental toughness is more difficult to achieve than physical strength conditioning toughness. This mental toughness level, separates out people. I've noticed that through the years, that the bar, for what a persons top level of mental toughness is, has lowered. The kid of the '80's and '90's understood that and they realized that they needed it and bought wholeheartedly into it. As we moved into the 2000's kids changed. Many kids believed me and thought they bought into what I was doing. They thought they were already there….. I saw more and more examples of how mental toughness training was ineffective…. It didn't work on the contemporary athlete. Why??? I believe it was because of all the positive reinforcement and the way that they were raised. Many of them, certainly not all, but many. And now, two decades into the new century, I see the mental toughness of young people continue to evolve. Kids now, pretty much doesn't feel that that mental toughness is important. They are more concerned about technique….. Which is really the easy part. Not saying they are lazy…. They'll spend enormous amounts of time practicing. Mental toughness doesn't really concern the current athlete because they think they've already got it Parents tell them they already have it, Their youth coach is telling them have it. From where I sit the world looks to be moving to be less tough because society is less interested in toughness. Kids are nicer…. just as dedicated….. Noticeably more talented…… but adverse to failure… adverse to risk taking really…. Not all that interested in trying new things or taking a chance on anything that may lead to failure. Failure is such a horrible concept they will do anything to avoid it. And that will be less lessons learned… because nothing good can come out of taking the easy road. Not all kids, but certainly most……. It's what our society is teaching and expecting of them. I remember when paying for things was much different. I Wrote a check the other day and nearly forgot how to do that. I've recently started using my phone to pay for things at stores. I don't have to even have my wallet with me when I go shopping….. All I need is that all important phone. I wonder about the affect of overspending… when it's so easy. When I pay cash, I watch it go…. Really feel it go so I'm likely more cautious with my spending habits. On "Mindset for Happiness" I discuss the importance of goal setting. Goals both illuminate our path so we know where we are going, and accomplishing goals motivates us to continue on towards higher and higher achievement. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theoldmanspodcast/message

Today Casey interviews First Words co-host and longtime friend Jazmine Aluma. Jazmine is a poet and essayist, currently working on a memoir and finishing her MFA in Creative Writing at Antioch University. She has an 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter. Jazmine and Casey have been a source of creative support for each other throughout their many years of friendship. Last year, when Casey's daughter was just a few months old and before COVID vaccines, Jazmine would drive over and join them on a weekly walk, with masks, to make sure Casey was getting some adult interaction in those early, isolating days of motherhood. It was on one of those walks where Jazmine first pitched Casey the idea for this podcast, and the rest is history. Jazmine's website. The first reading originally appeared in the Issue 61 of Ruminate Magazine – Beginnings and Endings. The second reading originally appeared in I Wrote it Anyway: An Anthology of Essays, edited by Caroline Donahue and Dal Kular. Today, I want to talk about our kids. I know that we all love our kids so much! I hear from so many of my clients and those who listen to my podcast that they are worried about their children and the choices they're making. In a perfect world of your choosing, everything would go exactly as it should, right? You and your husband would always be on the same page when parenting. You would get pregnant exactly when you wanted to. Your child would meet, or beat, each milestone. They would never make a wrong decision. And then you could be peaceful and happy. But that doesn't happen, does it? So, how do we see our children in a different light so that when they make decisions we don't like, we can still be at peace? In this episode, I'm going to share with you 3 ways you can see them in a different light and find that peace that you crave. Inspiration Station: Dad, I Wrote a Book About You on Amazon. You can find a bunch of different choices here.
On this episode of Our American Stories, our regular contributor, Paul Kotz, helped a frustrated student look past their circumstances and get to why what they were doing matters. Mackenzie Vath shares how the gift she gave to her dad Tim Busch ended up blessing both of their lives. The founder of the Center for Puppetry Arts,Vincent Anthony, shares his story of how he made a career out of puppeteering. She loved performing when she was a little girl, but she also was hooked on newspapers and decided to become a reporter, rising from small city dailies to the New York Times. She was writing for the Times when she learned she'd been born with a dangerous heart defect and underwent open-heart surgery at the world-famous Cleveland Clinic. Her experience dovetailed with a growing awareness of heart disease as a killer of women, and her first book, “The Woman's Heart Book,” led to a groundbreaking PBS documentary and launched her career as a national speaker. She is still writing books and, in July, her sixth book, “Fight Back: Beat the Coronavirus,” was published. She also founded “Sing Out,” a FB group with 6,600 members, devoted to supporting the live arts. Charlotte was poised to take over as a host at the Bleu Bar's popular open mic night at the iconic National hotel in South Beach on March 25, 2020 but – you guessed it—the pandemic struck, shutting the hotel down. And so, Charlotte pivoted again, and is now preparing for her virtual NYC debut on Aug. 6, when her first cabaret show “I Wrote the Book,” will be streamed live from MetropolitanZoom's Studio A. https://metropolitanzoom.ticketleap.com/charlotte-libov-080621/?fbclid=IwAR1WFWRWg6PVv51Hg717ufT00TVMpOKYSlUzhI08lm6gmQ9ry9itlOu1rmU

On this episode I had a great conversation with my friend good Sophie Lockhart. Sophie is a worship leader, songwriter and artist based out of Pennsylvania. Sophie is a very skilled writer in multiple genres and on this episode we talked about how she continues to be creative while writing songs for the church, CCM and also in the singer/songwriter/folk genre. Last year she launched Parker Street which is more worship focused and continues releasing under her own name as well.Sophie also shared the idea that we “crave what we eat” as the things we do are the things we crave, and that can carry through all aspects of our creative pursuits and lives in general. I know you are going to enjoy this interview. Sophie has an acoustic version of her latest single "I Wrote a Letter" releasing tomorrow 3/12/21 on all streaming platforms so make sure to check it out!To follow Sophie head to:FacebookInstagramSpotifyDid you know we have a CIAS playlist on Spotify? I Wrote a Letter to JESUS & The Blood
( Film Maker, Actor, Writer, Krump Dancer, host & Correspondent ) #podcast #show #creatortocreatorsI first fell in love with cinema at a very young age due to my late Father Jamie when he wouldtake me to Blockbuster & Hollywood video rental stores in North County San Diego almost on adaily basis. In 2005 during my freshman year of High School Through students who’d becomehis friends & Krump Mentors, I saw the krump documentary Rize in 2005. It and my friends atschool got me initiated into the krump culture from then fast forward 15 years to now I stillkrump. In 2012 my dad passed from Cancer, then I and my mom decided to move to LA becauseI wanted to chase my dream of being a Film Maker in the Film Industry.I started networking and learning as I went. Eventually, in 2014 I met Singer/Comedian/stylistO’neal Mcknight when I went to see his first comedy set at the Laugh Factory. In doing so wetalked before his set, exchanged info and he told me to meet him outside after his set. After hisset, I went outside where a film crew awaited me and him. He was starring in his own reality tvshow for the lifetime channel and wanted me to be in the scene they were shooting as one of hisentourage members in front of the laugh factory. After that from 2014 - 2018, I kept gettingdancing, acting roles, & crew jobs on youtube web series and movies such as Russell Simmon’sAll Def Digital series “Cracker Jackson” to krumping in La La Land.In 2018 I decided to step out of the cycle of Just being content with dancing / Acting roles and tochase my initial goal of Film Making. I Rallied friends iv made in the industry since moving toLA to that point and made a Dc Comics Fan Film called “Fair Play”. It was my first time makingsomething I Wrote, Co-Directed, and Co-Starred in. 2019 - Feb 2020 I started filming moreindependent projects such as my first documentary and tv pilot which both were almostcompleted until the covid shut down. From Feb 2020 - now in quarantine iv work for J.B.smooth and then co-created a Quarantine Dramedy called “ Boxed In”, Which I co-write/co-direct/co-star in and edit. So far 4 episodes into Boxed we’ve had celebrity guest stars in eachepisode from the power ranger franchise, veronica mars, Starz channel Spartacus and Spike Leefilms.

We're a week away from StoryADay May. Take the WRITER Code workshop here: https://storyaday.org/writer-code Find out more about StoryADay Superstars, our writing community: https://www.storyaday.com/superstars-2020 Today's episode is a conversation with Tammy Breitweiser whose flash fiction has been published in The Ninja Writers Monthly, Spelk, Clover and White, and Elephants Never. Her essay is in the I Wrote it Anyway anthology. You can connect with Tammy through Twitter @TLBREIT or through her medium page https://medium.com/@tammybreitweiser. Sign up for her newsletter here. Do you feel gratitude toward people who have helped you?Do you express that gratitude more than enough, not enough, or about right? You're probably familiar with research that expressing gratitude and feeling it improve people's lives.I loved my exercise of writing ten gratitude messages a day for a week. Here is the Inc. piece I wrote on it: I Wrote 70 Gratitude Emails. Here Are My Awesome Results.Today's episode is Chris Schembra interviewing me as part of his project including Bill Gates, Simon Sinek, and other luminaries. He asks us:If you could credit or thank one person that you haven't enough, who is it?The conversation doesn't directly relate to the environment, but does to leadership. The leadership part of this podcast is about joy, passion, meaning, value, importance, purpose, growth, and so on.And what Vince Lombardi says about winning, that it's not a sometimes thing but on all the time thing, applies to leadership.Too many people say things like that coal miners in West Virginia simply have to accept that times have changed, we can't keep digging coal, and if that means your community suffers, well, you'll be better off after the change. These people then refuse to consider polluting less themselves: we just have to accept that their job or their family requires flying, or they love meat too much, or whatever. So today's post is my answer to whom I feel gratitude toward but don't express it. It's personal but so is leadership.I wasn't sure if the conversation was too personal or distinct from the environment, so I won't mind if you let me know if I should share more things like this conversation or less.Chris also hosts regular dinners, so I feel a brotherhood in how we work, based on my famous no-packaging vegetable stews. Hey there word nerds! Today I have the pleasure of hosting Caroline Donahue on the show! Caroline is an American writer living in Berlin, and the host of The Secret Library Podcast (where I’ve had the good fortune of being a guest!). She is also the co-editor, with Dal Kular, of the essay anthology I Wrote it Anyway, which is all about writers overcoming obstacles in order to do the work they love. Proceeds from this anthology benefits Arts Emergency in the UK and 826 LA in the US. I happen to be a huge fan of 826, having volunteered for several years at the NYC branch, so when Caroline put out a call for submissions, I immediately raised my hand. Now listen in as Caroline and I chat about this amazing project, and do a deep dive into the process of crafting an anthology from beginning to end. In this episode Caroline and I discuss: A step-by-step process of putting an anthology together. The importance of choosing your editorial stance early on. How to handle the submission process. The biggest hurdles to look out for when crafting an anthology. Tricks to help you overcome blocks and write anyway. Plus, Caroline’s #1 tip for writers. For more info and show notes: DIYMFA.com/231

This week, we are delighted to share our conversation with Caroline Donahue, a book coach and host of the wonderful Secret Library podcast and co-editor of the forthcoming anthology, I Wrote it Anyway. Caroline has so much great advice that we've decided she's our new spiritual adviser. In the episode, she talks about her planning process, giving creative projects time to root and grow (and not worrying about being too faithful to them), and her incredible publishing project, I Wrote it Anyway. Produced with Dal Kular, the short story anthology features writers who felt blocks to writing, either internal or due to the outside world, schedule, lack of support, etc, and will be out this fall. "Never Gonna Be Bored" is by Adam and the Couch Potatoes. H. H. Monro (known as Saki) wrote "The Storyteller." The poet Horace wrote the Ars Poetica, which says (depending on your translation) that "poetry has two aims -- to instruct and to give delight." You can read a little bit about the history of children's literature at Random History. American Children's Literature and the Construction of Childhood is by Gail Schmunck Murray. Louisa May Alcott wrote a lot of stuff for children, including: * Little Women, followed by Good Wives (sometimes published as part of Little Women) * Little Men, followed by Jo's Boys * Eight Cousins * Rose in Bloom * An Old-Fashioned Girl, parts one and two "Lumberin' Bunny" is by Tom Smith. "It's Windy, Your Majesty" is by KidsCastUK. The American Library Association has an official Library Bill of Rights. They emphasize that parents should be involved in and will be held responsible for their children's reading. They also say that librarians should withhold from the parents as much information about the child's reading choices as possible: "Parents are responsible not only for the choices their minor children make concerning the selection of materials and the use of library facilities and resources, but also for communicating with their children about those choices. Librarians should not breach a child’s confidentiality by giving out information readily available to the parent from the child directly. Libraries should take great care to limit the extenuating circumstances in which they will release such information. (ALA, "Questions and Answers on Privacy and Confidentiality." -- scroll down to the question, "Are privacy rights of minors the same as those of adults?") In case anyone is wondering if I know what I'm talking about regarding the ALA, I got my PhD in Library and Information Science. James R. Kincaid wrote Child-Loving: The Erotic Child and Victorian Culture, as well as Erotic Innocence: The Culture of Child Molesting. Anne Geddes takes photographs of babies dressed up or staged as if they were food or flowers, among other things. The purpose of the photographs is to make us think of the Geddes children as consumables, which we can buy a picture of and consume with our eyes over and over without having to deal with the complexities of babies in real life. It works a lot like porn. "I Wrote a Song About Allergies" is by Kyle Dine. Emma Cooper does the Alternative Kitchen Garden podcast. I'm involved with two writers groups affiliated with the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. "Now, That's Magic" is by KidsCastUK. All the music (and the KidsCastUK bits) were provided by Mevio.com.
