The podcast where we tackle cinema's biggest box office failures and decide if they deserve a second chance. “Would a robot ever dream of leaving the stars behind?” This week, Troy and Brad explore one of 2024's most ambitious animated flops—Mars Express! Joining the discussion is director, editor, writer, and most importantly - friend of the podcast, Michael Neel, ready to break down this cyberpunk noir. The gang dives deep into the tangled mysteries of Mars, dissecting everything from brain farming conspiracies to the bittersweet android-human partnership at the film's core. Before jumping into the main discussion, Michael talks about his own film, Infinite Santa 8000, and provides the guys a unique perspective on the creative process. Is Mars Express a modern Blade Runner or just another confusing space odyssey? Did the film's heady themes and experimental animation scare off audiences? Directed by Jérémie Périn and featuring stunning visuals alongside a complex narrative, Mars Express might just deserve a ticket back to theaters—or does it? Tune in and find out! Don't forget to check out our Not A Bomb Tee Public store for all your Martian-themed merch! As always, we love your feedback, so hit us up at NotABombPod@gmail.com or leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Let's keep saving cinema's forgotten treasures together. Welcome back to your favorite podcast about some of Hollywood's biggest bombs. This month, Not A Bomb is examining some of 2023's biggest box office failures and critically lambasted films! Once again, Brad's shenanigans are back and he's breaking all the rules. On this week's episode, the guys welcome back Jose from Watch/Skip+ to discuss the very divisive film from 2022 that didn't get a wide release until 2023, Babylon. This three hour epic is an ode to Hollywood during the transition from silent films to talkies (imagine Singing in the Rain but much darker in tone). Notable for its All-Star cast, Babylon failed to make an impact at the box-office and divided most critics. Does Babylon's 3-hour runtime deserve your attention? Is it too obnoxious, trangressive, and pretensious for the average film fan? Or maybe this is a visually majestic tragedy that will soon become a cult classic? Download and listen!Babylon is directed by Damein Chazelle and stars Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, P.J. Bryne, Lukas Haas, Max Minghella, Rory Scovel, Katherine Waterston, and Tobey Maguire. As the year comes to an end, Not A Bomb wants to know your best/worst films of 2023. Head over to Not A Bomb and submit your choice! Also, longtime friend of Troy and Brad, Michael Neel, released his movie - Infinite Santa 8000 via Synapse Films. The fifth of the rare Bits, Pieces, and Body Parts episodes is here. Your co-hosts go on about a number of interesting topics. We happen to discuss a bit about the 10 Cloverfield Lane title and its relationship (or maybe not so much of a relationship) with the original Cloverfield film and how Hollywood decides to make trailers and advertise. The new Ghostbuster reboot trailer is here and we discuss that. Also we discuss the Oscars, how two genre legends were memorialized (Wes Crave and Leonard Nimoy), and how many genre films (or films with genre roots) won awards including The Revenant, Room, The Hateful Eight, Mad Max, and Ex Machina. Lastly there's an interview with director, screenwriter, and animator Michael Neel who is behind such cult flicks as Drive-In Horror Show and Infinite Santa 8000. He talks about his new projects including a whole web series related to the Infinite Santa post-apocalyptic universe. Also, there's a new Terror Tantrum review by Patrick Lacey where he discusses the Scream Factory blu-ray release, Curse and Curse 2. You name it, post-apocalyptic film and literature has been a staple of the genre fan for years. From complete failure of the machine in Mad Max and Atlas Shrugged, to the threat upon the fairer sex in the Screwfly Solution and A Boy and His Dog, to the behavioral science of the characters in The Walking Dead and The Stand. It's been used as a commentary on the world and where we are headed for decades. Then we have Christmas horror. Bob Clark, most famous for the delightful holiday film, A Christmas Story, was also the man behind Black Christmas. Silent Night, Deadly Night caused an uproar during its initial release in the early 1980's. Gremlins, backed by Stephen Spielberg, became an immediate classic and caused the change in the American film rating system. But what about independent cinema. Here on Dark Discussions, co-host Philip interviews director/screenwriter Michael Neel about his mash up animated post-apocalyptic and Christmas film that pays tribute to Christmas horror, post-apocalyptic horror, and adult graphic material such as The Walking Dead, Heavy Metal magazine, and classic anime. Whether a fun film to have a blast with or a movie with messages intentional or not, Infinite Santa 8000 , the new film by Burnt Reindeer Films, comes alive. One of the best animated genre films of 2013. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM

Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. The year was 1897 and author Bram Stoker had his latest novel, Dracula, published for reader consumption. Though not a sensational hit when first released, it was still a tale worth reading for anyone who enjoyed mainstream novels of the time. Of course years later it is part of the literary canon for anyone who reads classic literature. It has crossed over to be not only joyous pulp but a novel spoken in the same breath as A Tale of Two Cities or Moby Dick. Dark Discussions welcomes once again, Inanna Arthen, author of the novels Mortal Touch and The Longer the Fall and owner of the publishing company By Light Unseen Media. She returns to talk about the most important vampire novel of all time. Though everyone knows such characters as Count Dracula and Abraham Van Helsing, other characters are discussed. Renfield, Dr. Seward, and Lucy Westerna among others are brought into the spotlight. Plus important plot points that have never been filmed are discussed. Though vampires are the main focus, the novel goes above and beyond being just a horror novel. The book brings was a forerunner to steampunk. It included important topics including the dramatic changes in technology during the Victorian Era, a subtext about parental nurturing, sexuality, xenophobia, among others; all while telling a delightful edge-of-the-seat thriller. So take a break from Dracula on screen and learn more about the source of one of the greatest villains of fiction. Director Michael Neel also appears to discuss his feature film Drive-in Horror Show and his upcoming horror animated film, Infinite Santa. Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. What does it say to the viewer when the director, on a DVD edition, has an introduction to a film where he apologizes for what you are about to see? French director Pascal Laugier writes and directs the co-produced French and Quebec, Canadian feature film Martyrs starring the beautiful actresses Mylène Jampanoï and Morjana Alaoui. Part of the new variety of extreme French horror films, Martyrs may be the most literary and nihilistic of the bunch, yet arguably the most important. As Lucy and Anna, two young foster girls, come face to face with a simple middle class family that may have some relationship to the early childhood kidnapping and abuse of one of them, shocking violence ensues. Was the family responsible for the unexplained cruelty and exploitation which Lucy had to ordeal as a child or was it a case of mistaken identity that goes awry? What appears to be a revenge film filled with wrongful deaths may only be the scratching of the surface of a story that could include demons, cults, torture, and the very existence of God, Satan, and the afterlife. Having a lead cast that is all female and focusing on such horrible real life nightmares as child abuse, sociopathology, extreme religious conviction, mans inhumanity against man, fanatical sects both scientific and spiritual, and the unfulfilling act of vengeance, Martyrs takes an extreme approach to topics that main stream films only try to brush over. While leading the viewer to its ambiguous ending, the film changes focus at a minimum of five times and presents the audience with a new theme during each new direction. From the very opening seconds until the rolling of the final credits, the audience has no time to breathe or let sink in what they see during the film’s 94 minutes. Though just over an hour and a half, Martyrs packs a punch that most screenwriter’s only wish for. Afterwards, Mike Neel, the director of the films Drive In Horror Show and Infinite Santa, is interviewed about his work and also his upcoming projects. Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. By an author which has many anthologies, short stories, novels, comic books, and young adult books all coming out at what seems to be at the same time, Jonathan Maberry's latest novel with a title that sounds as if it is that of an old black and white film noir was released just in time for Halloween on October 25th, 2011. Dead of Night, a thrilling and compelling zombie plague story, is much more than the generic sounding title that it is called. When a serial killer is executed at a Pennsylvania maximum security prison, unbeknownst to some, the body is claimed by an unknown relative from a rural south eastern county of the commonwealth. Reporter Billy Trout starts an investigation on what could be a significant story that eventually turns into much more than he ever expected. As his findings turn into shock, police officers JT Hammond and Desdemona Fox are called to what appears to be a routine break in at the local mortuary and funeral parlor. When what they discover is actually a major crime scene, they are forced into a life and death scenario that suddenly turns into something way over their pay grade. Co-hosts Chris and Philip discuss the next novel that should be on your reading agenda. Zombie fans will be delighted while those who are all zombied out will be encouraged by a new spin on a subgenre that needs a fresh take. Afterwards, we have a number of interviews. Eric S. Brown, author of many zombie, werewolf, and sasquatch books, is interviewed about his works and his December 2011 release A Pack of Wolves. An author from North Carolina, Eric has dabbled within the science fiction and horror genres with such titles as the Bigfoot Wars. Next up is comic book writer and creator Everett Soares of the graphic novel series Sky Pirates of Valendor. Lastly we have director Mike Neel who discusses his movies Drive In Horror Show and Infinite Santa.
