The panel kicks off with VisionOS 26.1, noting Apple's suspicious lack of release notes and testing new immersive films like the MotoGP documentary, Red Bull's skiing adventures, and even a BBC Proms experience. Dave also demos guest mode for Vision Pro with a co-worker, who was blown away by a Metallica immersive video. Next, they dive into iOS 26.1, iPadOS, and macOS Tahoe updates, highlighting live translation in AirPods Pro 3, Safari tweaks, and the long-awaited digital passport in Wallet—sparking a hilarious debate about whether TSA, Minnesota, or cable companies would ever accept it. The group then compares the Apple Watch Series 11 and SE3, praising brighter screens, sleep tracking, and health sensors, while joking that “Series 0 was basically an hourglass.” Marty even admits wearing his watch to bed for the first time. Conversation shifts to the iPhone 17's 18MP front camera, with its auto-rotate and zoom selfie features. Jill cracks that selfies are how people “die of bear attacks,” while Eric recalls tugging on demo phones in Apple Stores until the security cords screamed. Other highlights include: • AirPods Pro 3 fit battles (with Marty suggesting ear reshaping via screwdriver) • Repairability improvements spotted in iFixit teardowns • CarPlay connectivity bugs (solved with wired connections, or defended as “protection from the Cylon invasion”) • NCAA teams adopting iPads over Surface Pros (“Surface: best used as a coffee stand”) • Disney Plus price hikes and streaming bundle frustrations The episode wraps with speculation about Apple's ecosystem direction and plenty of laughs, blending serious tech analysis with classic panel humor. On this episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through iOS 26 and Apple's other major software updates, which officially launched this week. iOS 26 introduces a major visual overhaul with "Liquid Glass," making system elements more translucent and fluid. There are a series of new communication features, such as backgrounds in Messages and Call Screening. The Lock Screen can adapt dynamically to photo subjects, while Photos gains a new Library and Collections layout and spatial 3D effects for favorites. Apple also added a new Games app that combines a user's game library with Game Center content. iPadOS 26 focuses on transforming multitasking by replacing Split View and Slide Over with a full window management system. Users can freely resize app windows, minimize or maximize them with macOS-style traffic-light controls, and use a menu bar across apps. A new Mac-style toolbar and a redesigned cursor are also present. macOS 26 brings Liquid Glass to the desktop for a refreshed aesthetic. Spotlight is overhauled with new search categories and quick keys, Control Center is more customizable with new menu bar options, and iPhone Live Activities can now be viewed directly on the Mac. watchOS 26 brings improvements to the Control Center and Smart Stack, and brings Notes to the Apple Watch for the first time. New health features include hypertension notifications and Sleep Score, while fitness gains an AI-powered "Workout Buddy" for personalized guidance. A new wrist flick gesture lets users dismiss calls or alarms more intuitively. Having tested the updates for several months, we take an overall look at the updates. We discuss polarized reaction to Liquid Glass, and Apple's controversial decision to remove the iPad's Split View and Slide Over. We also talk through enhancements to Apple Intelligence, such as improved Visual Intelligence and the ability to access Apple's on-device foundation models directly in Shortcuts. iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 are available now. In the latest Mobile Views podcast, Todd Ogasawara and Jon Westfall discuss Apple's recent product announcements, focusing more on software than hardware. They note that the new operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, are where users will see the most significant changes, with updates scheduled to be released on September 15th. The new operating systems have a "liquid glass" design, which changes the overall look and navigation. They also touch on the new iPhone "Air," which they theorize may be a precursor to a foldable phone, as it is a result of Apple's research and development for foldable technology. They also share their thoughts on other new products and features. Ogasawara and Westfall express disappointment that the new AirPods Pro did not include an LCD display case or a thermometer, features they were hoping for. Ogasawara also discusses his experience with the Google Pixel 10 Pro's AI features, including the built-in thermometer. They also talk about the new sleep score feature on watchOS 26 and the upcoming hypertension detection. Finally, they express their frustration with the lack of progress in phone technology, reminiscing about a time when new features like GPS and Wi-Fi were added every year, and they suggest that people who upgrade every two or three years will find the changes more exciting than those who upgrade annually.

The discussion covers the iPhone 17 lineup, including the Pro and Pro Max models powered by the A19 Pro chip, upgraded camera systems, and improved thermal cooling. Panelists debate upgrade cycles, storage needs, and even whether “pumpkin spice” (aka orange) should count as a phone color. We also break down the debut of the iPhone Air, Apple's thinnest iPhone yet, with its titanium build, new C1X modem, and unique design choices (including that hump). Is it just a super-thin marvel—or half of a future foldable iPhone? Opinions differ! Next up, the AirPods Pro 3 bring stronger noise cancellation, a heart rate sensor, and game-changing live translation features. The crew weighs whether these are must-have upgrades or evolutionary refinements. Finally, the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 take center stage, with blood pressure monitoring, sleep score features, and battery improvements sparking debate about health tracking and who benefits most from the new models. Throughout the episode, the panel reflects on how Apple's hardware has entered an iterative phase—solid and polished, but less revolutionary. Still, with new colors, health sensors, and smarter features, there's plenty to discuss, speculate, and laugh about in this jam-packed post-event recap . Fresh off a day filled with new Apple products, The Verge's ground team reports back on everything they've seen — and touched. Allison Johnson walks us through the new iPhone Air, iPhone 17, and iPhone 17 Pro lineups, making sense of all the new camera features and wondering just how thin a phone really can be. After that, Victoria Song talks about why the AirPods Pro 3 may have been the big hit of the day, plus all the details on the three new models of Apple Watch. Finally, Jake Kastrenakes tells us about his first experience live at an Apple event, explains the appeal of a crossbody strap, and has a theory about why an orange phone is such a big deal. DID THE United States really lose World War 2? Not on the battlefield; the outcome of the armed conflict is pretty clear. But after the war, the United States brought Nazi technology into the country through scientists who were smuggled out of Germany via the “rat lines” set up by Allen Dulles, later the Director of the CIA under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Researcher and author Doug Woodward joins us to talk about his new book Descent into Evil (https://amzn.to/4nDqBBp). We explore the controversial thesis that the United States lost World War II to the Nazis' ideology rather than to their military. Doug discusses the occult roots of the National Socialist Party, the role of the CIA in establishing the Deep State and its research into mind control programs like MKUltra, the connection between UFO sightings and Nazi technology, and esoteric practices involved in America's space exploration efforts. The bottom line is that American society was irrevocably changed after World War 2, perhaps more by the occult practices imported from the Nazi cult than by its effects on the role of the United States as a new global superpower. The panel kicks off with reactions to the iOS 26 Beta 9 and visionOS Beta 9 releases, highlighting improvements like 3D charting support for developers, enhanced accessibility ratings in the App Store, and visual refinements such as the updated liquid glass interface. While some bugs remain, overall performance feels crisper and more polished. Looking ahead to the event, the conversation centers on the iPhone 17 lineup — including rumors of a lighter iPhone 17 Air, spatial photography integration for Vision Pro, and whether the upgrades justify an annual refresh. Opinions are divided: some are eager to upgrade, while others remain skeptical about how compelling the changes will be. The panel also dives into expected updates for the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3, including a possible return of blood oxygen monitoring and other health features. Other Apple ecosystem topics include: Apple Wallet enhancements — digital boarding passes with live activities, airport maps, luggage tracking, and U.S. passport support. AirPods Pro 3 rumors — improved noise cancellation, redesigned stems, and heart rate monitoring integration. HomePod and AirTag updates — hopes for better battery life and a more seamless user experience. Apple TV speculation — possible Wi-Fi 7 support and potential gaming opportunities. In a lighter segment, the group discusses Astropad's new anti-reflective “Fresh Coat” screen protector, designed to reduce glare by 75% on the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models. They also dive into Opera's revamped tab management on iOS, debating its potential to rival Safari and Chrome. Finally, the episode touches on Apple's AI ambitions, exploring reports of a planned answer engine integrated with Siri, leveraging deals with OpenAI, Perplexity, or even Google Gemini. While Apple's AI strategy sparks mixed opinions, the panel agrees that user privacy and energy efficiency will likely remain top priorities. This episode serves as the perfect primer before Apple's big event, balancing news, rumors, personal insights, and witty banter to prepare listeners for what's next in the Apple ecosystem.
