Jackie Hoffman is from the Garfield Park neighborhood, on Chicago's West Side. It's only three miles from the trendy West Loop, but as Jackie says, it's “the other side of America.” The West Loop is known for its restaurant scene, while Garfield Park doesn't even have a grocery store. The average life expectancy for West Loop residents is 85; it's 67 in Garfield Park. That statistic is personal for Jackie. Worried by his mother's unhealthy lifestyle as she approached that age, he created a diet and exercise plan for her. Then, encouraged by its success, he expanded his outreach. He founded Peace Runners 773, a non-profit that brings awareness to holistic health and wellbeing while creating safe spaces for movement in underserved communities. It's incredible what happens when you sit in the presence of women who have done the hard work of getting out of their own way. They have laid down their ego. They have learned how to cover and move in ways that make the magic happen. You see it in their smiles. You hear it in their stories. You live it through their actions. I learn from Jamie every time I get to join the Women's Assembly monthly calls. It was an honor to join today and learn from these women. Echelon Front is shaping leaders in ways that will impact generation after generation. My DAY 25 Kindness Games shoutout goes to Jamie Cochran + Jackie Hoffman and the Women's Assembly of Echelon Front. This morning I got to join the monthly conversation. I took the following notes from this morning's meeting titled, “Extreme Ownership is not for me with Jackie Hoffman, ” and walked away with a renewed energy for my role in this world. NOTES: “We own everything in our world: Every problem Every solution Every relationship” - Jackie Hoffman Cover and move is the first law of combat for a reason. It's my ego that gets in the way of teamwork. Ask “How can I make this my fault?” When I take responsibility then I can step up and do something to solve the problem. Stop playing the blame game. EO (Extreme Ownership) is simple, not easy. Trust - Respect - Listen - Influence #leadership #womeninbusiness To watch this episode on YouTube click this link: https://youtu.be/wEB9BWJJWDY

We love a short runtime, a raspy voiced mother, a Jackie Hoffman cameo and some climactic meltdown acting, and we got all that and more in "Shiva Baby." Polly Draper steals our hearts in those glasses as the classic Jewish mother with a heart of gold and sends us into a rabbit hole of 90's TV moms, bad IMDb pictures and Timothy Busfield. We also talk about extra work, the nightmarish world of open calls in New York, our shared love for Bonnie Hunt, and the importance of not knowing what you're doing with your life in your 20's. Naturally, Jill Zarin comes up in conversation more than a few times.
