Send us a textIn this episode of the Kurdistan in America podcast, host Delovan Barwari is joined by Emma DeCaro and Dr. Karwan Al-Dosakee to discuss the Kurdistan Deaf Human Rights Initiative, a transformative project aimed at advancing the rights and services for the deaf community in Kurdistan. They shed light on the challenges faced by deaf individuals, such as the lack of access to sign language education beyond the 9th grade and the very limited opportunities available from 1st to 9th grade.Emma, Dr. Karwan, and Delovan discuss how the first phase of the project trained sign language interpreters at the American University of Kurdistan in Dohuk and established an advisory committee that includes key stakeholders from the deaf community and government ministries. Funded by the US Embassy through IREX, the second phase is now ending, focusing on laying the groundwork for standardizing a Kurdish Sign Language (KuSL) documentation process with its natural variations. This process can ultimately support the development of a community-based dictionary to increase opportunities for Deaf education and interpreter training. This episode offers an in-depth look at the impactful work of the Kurdistan Deaf Human Rights Initiative, a project that began at the KRG Representation and is supported by the KRG, NGOs, and international partners to improve education, accessibility, and rights for the deaf community across Kurdistan.Tune in to this important discussion on the needs of the Deaf community in Kurdistan. The full transcript, interpreted in Kurdish Sign Language (KuSL), is also available on YouTube—click the link here—with interpretation by Ahmed Ali.

In this episode of State of Southasia, assistant editor Nayantara Narayanan speaks to Harsh Mander, the peace activist and founder of Karwan-e-Mohabbat, a campaign in solidarity with victims of communal or religious violence. Mander says that over the past decade the Modi regime has normalised, legitimised, valourised and incentivised hate to such an extent that it is difficult to undo despite any kind of electoral setback to his party, and that much more is needed to defeat the social project of hate that is underway. State of Southasia releases a new interview every four weeks.
She takes water from our streams and medium sized rivers to identify what she calls the “chemical fingerprints” of these waters. Dr. Karwan is a member of the University of MN's Departments of Forestry, and Soil, Water and Climate. Dr. Karwan will discuss the impact different forest landscapes have on water quality in a free, online program hosted by Itasca Waters tomorrow at noon. Shownotes:Lumium, Unternehmenswebsite https://www.lumium.de/Erving Goffman, Wir alle spielen Theater, Buch
Zapraszam Was do rozmowy.
Ta rozmowa totalnie mnie zaskoczyła. Poziomem swojej głębi i wręcz innej wymiarowości. Miło mi, że mogę Was zabrać do świata Ani.Zapraszam, posłuchajcie - Wojciech Herra
See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Interview
During the dark days of the Raj many predicted that the idea of India would eventually fail and the divisions of caste, religion and race would come to define the subcontinent. The 75 years of independent India have proved these doomsayers utterly wrong. Instead of the divisions, the peaceful co-existence of its various ethnic and cultural groups has come to define the Indian nation. Hence it is naturally a matter of grave concern that much of the national and international media in their coverage of India have been featuring alarming headlines about the rise of intolerance. Gruesome stories about communal violence and mob lynchings appear to have become commonplace. Many of India's prominent artists and academics, along with veteran bureaucrats and opposition politicians have felt compelled to draft public letters, deliver emotional parliamentary speeches and file writ petitions in the Supreme Court, seeking urgent action to check this disturbing trend. Even foreign leaders such as Barack Obama and Kamala Harris have pushed diplomatic boundaries to remind India of its commitment to democracy and the strength it derives from being inclusive. Can all of this be simply an overreaction or is it a sinister conspiracy to defame India? Or worse, is it true? Is India seeing a rise in hate?If indeed true, the alarm bells must be heeded. Hate, if allowed to fester for too long, can tear the social fabric of any society. Moreover, experts point out that "rising intolerance, hate crimes and moral policing can seriously damage the economic growth of the nation." That's a risk India, which still needs to lift hundreds of millions out of poverty, cannot afford to take. The doctrine of hate cannot be allowed to reverse India's upward trajectory. In this session, we meet face-to-face with Mr. Harsh Mander, who has been nominated this year for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his extensive work with victims of mass violence and his campaign 'Karwan-e-Mohabbat'. 'Karwan-e-Mohabbat', meaning “Caravan of Love” was founded by Mr. Mander in 2017, to show solidarity to victims of hate crimes. An award-winning author, researcher, teacher and human rights worker, he has been hailed as "an important voice for religious tolerance and dialogue."Explore More at - www.argumentativeindians.comDISCLAIMER:We invite thought leaders from across the ideological spectrum. Karwan e Mohabbat is an organization in Uttar Pradesh, India fighting bigotry with empathy and solidarity for families of people killed or lynched in the name of religion. During a complete shutdown of the country at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, they began to feed a forgotten group — thousands of migrant workers who were walking thousands of kilometers home with only the clothes on their backs. This week, host Nidhi Suresh is joined by Srishti Jaiswal, independent writer and journalist, and Oishika Neogi, a human rights researcher and writer at Karwan-e-Mohabbat.Oishika talks about her story in Article14 on the widows of three people lynched in Jharkhand. On her responsibility as a reporter, she says, “We do report hate crimes, talk about it, but what after that? We forget. But these people have to live with it.”Srishti talks about her Al Jazeera report on the “human cost” of the farmer protests. “They won and it had been a great journey for them, but at what cost?” she says. “They have to live with this pain.” The panel agrees that the government fails at giving out data on everything from farmer deaths to lynching records. “The data collection is very weak within the government in every case,” Srishti says. “They don't realise how crucial it is.”This, and a lot more as they talk about what made news, what didn't, and what shouldn't have.Tune in.RecommendationsOishika MindhunterSrishtiThe Mindy ProjectLongform PodcastModern LoveNidhiBeware of Pity See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

If stories we tell shape the world, then how might we hold that power responsibly? In the complex interplay of money, power and our own biases, is it possible to design for media’s independence? Could media be an agent of a more inclusive and compassionate world? We welcome you to a dialogue with Sunchika Pandey, Osama Manzar and Natasha Badhwar, moderated by Rohit Rajgarhia. Sunchika Pandey aka TwitterMadam is the lady behind Mumbai Police’s voice. Through her start-up HAT Media, she has built many bridges between Police and citizens- bridges of empathy, tolerance and some witty humour too. Prior to that as well, Sunchika has worn multiple hats in the media space- starting as a principal correspondent with NDTV covering crime and court beats, worked with SatyamevJayte core team, and other digital marketing roles. Born and raised in the small town of Ranchi with her 2 elder sisters, her father’s advice of choosing “meaning” over “success” has been her guiding anchor. Also see : 5 questions we asked Sunchika. From a small village Champaran in Bihar to becoming a global leader, Osama Manzar has been a pioneer in reducing "information poverty" from India and the global south using digital tools. He is a social entrepreneur, columnist and mentor. Over last 20 years, his unitiring work at Digital Empowerment Foundation has digitally empowered more than 12 million people including 4 million women. Osama is a British Chevening Scholar and is also International Visitors Leadership Program Fellow of the US State Department. He has co authored more than 5 books including Internet Economy of India and writes a weekly column in Mint. Osama has also instituted many awards for recognizing digital innovations for development in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka which helped shape the digital ecosystem of India in many ways. Natasha Badhwar grew up in Kolkata, listening to Partition stories from her mother about her grandparents who migrated from Lahore in 1947. 13 years in broadcast journalism at NDTV as the first female videographer in news television in India - is where she experienced the power of stories; and of telling compelling stories that make us humans. Post NDTV, she now works as an independent film-maker and media trainer. Her writings like “My daughter’s Mum”, “Immortal for a moment”, “Karwan-e-Mohabbat” or fortnightly columns at Mint carries a lively amalgam of a mother, wife, daughter, wanderer, feminist, friend and professional and yet also the honesty and love beyond all labels. Natasha says, “I write to live. It slows me down, makes me see, reflect, explain, forgive.” The talk will moderated by Rohit Rajgarhia. He is an alumnus of IIM Bangalore, and has worked deeply in the India's internet economy as an investment banker before he stepped out of corporate career to explore a life of simplicity and volunteerism.

Salong New Look hittar du här.
