In this episode, Matt Risinger (from The Build Show) maps the exact path from babysitter to system-builder, so your business runs without you hovering over every decision. Most contractors don't even realize they're micromanaging. They just know they're exhausted, their PMs won't make a call without them, and nothing gets caught until they personally show up. This episode breaks down why smart owners get trapped as the answer guy, what it's costing them in profit and sanity, and the step-by-step framework to build a team that thinks, decides, and polices standards on its own. You'll learn:How to spot the line between managing and micromanaging, and why crossing it is a silent profit killerThe real cost of being the only person who catches mistakes (hint: it shows up in your margins, your turnover, and your ceiling)How to set non-negotiable standards your team can self-audit before you ever see the workThe exact roles and decisions a PM must own before you can truly step backA simple accountability meeting structure you can use to get real value out of every meetingHow to train independent thinking into your people without killing their ownership when they get it wrongWhat has to be true culturally before your team starts policing standards themselves00:00-Intro02:18-The Path to Effective Delegation10:22-Building Loyalty & Accountability with Subcontractors16:59-Communication & Standards for On-Site Teams25:19-Defining Roles & Learning from Mistakes31:55-Structuring Effective Accountability Meetings36:50-Training for Independence & Mentorship48:28-Philosophy on Leading & Treating People

Welcome to The Calm & Happy Home Podcast! This week, I'm talking about why so many of us are feeling stuck right now, but also completely overwhelmed at the same time, and what is actually going on beneath the surface. In this episode, I'm sharing why this isn't random, what the energy of 2026 is doing to so many of us, and the simple, grounded steps you can take this week to feel more in control of the speed at which your life is moving. Why so many people are feeling both stuck and overwhelmed right now, and why it is not a coincidenceThe fascinating reason the Year of the Horse and the annual feng shui number one are pulling us in completely opposite directionsWhat is really happening in the centre of your home this year and why it is affecting your mental and physical health more than you might realiseThe treadmill analogy that perfectly explains why jumping on at full speed is never the answer, and what to do insteadWhy your home could be keeping you paused rather than helping you move forwards, and the areas most likely to be holding you backA simple breathing technique that helps you locate where overwhelm is sitting in your body and gently begin to release itThe one question to ask yourself about your home this week, are your surroundings reflecting the version of you that is ready to move forward? Why March is asking you to simplify before April brings a whole new energy of visibility and being seenYou are not behind. You are not broken. You are simply navigating a very big energy, and that deserves a little more grace.Sometimes it feels like the treadmill is already running at full speed and you are just standing next to it watching it go by. Avsnitt 312. EPISODE 634 - Kelly Farley - He Lost His Baby Too, Survival Guide for the Grieving Dad and Grieving DadsIf you have ever loved a child, then you understand what it's like to love someone more than you love life itself. If you have ever lost a child, then you understand more about hell than anyone could possibly be expected to know. This isn't something you get over. Only those who have lost a child can understand the depths to which this pain travels. Like most of the men who will read these books, I too am a grieving dad.The message I want bereaved fathers to understand is that I know it's hard, I know it hurts, I know it's scary — but you can get through this. You can survive. It will be the hardest thing you will ever experience; it will drain you physically, mentally, and emotionally. You can come out on the other side of this very long and lonely tunnel, but you will be a different person when you do. There is no going back to the old you.You also need to know that you are not alone in your grief. Other men have been through this and that the emotions they keep inside are the same emotions all of us experience, even if we don't talk about them. The best thing you can do is to reach out for help and to know it is not a sign of “weakness” to do so. Instead, it's a sign of courage and strength — the kind that's required to face this battle head on.Book: He Lost His Baby TooSurvival Guide for the Grieving DadThis book was written specifically for fathers grappling with the unbearable aftermath of losing a baby. It is all too easy for a bereaved father to succumb to a haunting sense of isolation after such a loss. However, within these pages lies a lifeline—a survival guide infused with wisdom, providing a roadmap through the complicated path of grief. In the wake of a tragic loss—whether it be a miscarriage, a stillbirth, or the untimely passing of an infant—this invaluable resource unravels the layers of anguish that overwhelm grieving fathers. Written by a grieving dad, this book offers unflinching honesty and poignant insight, it also delves into the raw pain that accompanies such a profound loss, assuring these men that their emotions, however overwhelming, are both valid and shared by others who have walked a similar path.Book: Grieving DadsTo the Brink and BackA collection of candid stories from grieving dads that were interviewed over a two-year period. The book offers insight from fellow members of, in the haunting words of one dad, “this terrible, terrible club,” which consists of men who have experienced the death of a child. This book is a collection of survival stories by men who have survived the worst possible loss and lived to tell the tale. They are real stories that pull no punches and are told with brutal honesty. Men that have shared their deepest and darkest moments. Moments that included thoughts of suicide, self-medication, and homelessness. Some of these men have found their way back from the brink, while others are still standing there, stuck in their pain. The core message of Grieving Dads is “you're not alone.” It is a message that desperately needs to be delivered to grieving dads who often grieve in silence due to society's expectations.https://www.grievingdads.com/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca

We are back with Season 6, and I'm sharing my first-hand insights and stories all about living the nomadic life for 2.5 years. This has been one of the biggest and most transformational life experiences I've had to date, and it brings me great joy to offer you some life lessons for your own potential transitions.A little backstory: I sold my home in April 2023, and over the last 2.5+ years, I have been living in transition. Nomadic living has been my norm. Yes, I've had longer, more extended stays with people during that time, but I also have been in MANY different homes, cities, states and countries, too. This is has given me a new, deeply rich perspective to share on how the nomadic life shapes me personally and professionally as an intuitive stylist and home editor. This week, I offer you:What it's like to live with others for an extended period of time (both friends and family)What I may have done differently looking backA deeper appreciation for hospitality And how this informs my deeply intimate work of intuitive style and home editingFor more information about my work, you can find me on the web or send me an email. I would love to hear any questions you have about transitions, nomadic life, or following your intuition!

Hey Doc,This one's different. In format and in focus. In this episode, I'm sharing excerpts from a book that reshaped the way I think about boundaries. It's called Boundaries After a Pathological Relationship by Adelyn Birch.Yes, it's about toxic romantic relationships... but when I read it, it felt like it captured everything I've experienced while in medicine. The way we've been trained to tolerate mistreatment, to deny our needs, to believe we can't leave... It's the very definition of a dysfunctional relationship. And most of us are still in it.You'll hear some of the most soul-shaking passages from the book and I'll unpack them through the lens of physician motherhood. Because boundaries aren't just about saying no. They're about reclaiming your time, your worth, and your right to want more.In this episode, you'll hear:Why confrontation isn't a character flaw, and what it actually signalsThe radical idea that your wants and needs are legitimate (yes, even as a doctor, even as a mom)How medicine gaslights physicians into forgetting their power — and how to take it backA list of your basic human rights in relationships that will stop you in your tracksIf you've ever felt stuck, dismissed, or just deeply tired this conversation is for you.Not to fix it all.But to remind you that your truth matters. And you don't need permission to honor it.
