Much loved the world over, Swedish born Kristina was the Founder of kikki.K, and more recently Dream Life (an inspiring & empowering brand turned global movement). After growing up on a small farm in Sweden, aged 22 she found herself in Australia, half a world away from family & friends, with little money and no idea what to do with her life. Kristina sold all she owned to create & build globally loved Swedish design & stationery business, kikki.K - from the ground up, to have: 120 award winning retail stores in 5 countries; a passionate team of ~1,500; a reputation for innovation & service excellence; an online store serving stationery & design lovers in over 150 countries ...and total revenue of around $650m. For over 20 yrs from start-up to mid 2021, Kristina won the hearts & minds of millions the world over, as the creative force and personality behind what was an authentic, founder & purpose led brand. After a tumultuous experience thru the Covid pandemic - with forced closures of her stores - Kristina lost control of kikki.K and parted ways in heart-breaking circumstances. A riveting story with many learnings. She has since bounced back - on a mission to inspire & empower 101 million people the world over to discover and chase their dreams. Kristina's next powerful step is to give 104 talks this year, sharing her keynote on starting again with a smile. Takeaways: Passion is key in starting and sustaining a business. Having a clear vision and purpose helps navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. Don't say no, say how - find solutions instead of dwelling on obstacles. Daily rituals, such as meditation and journaling, can anchor and align oneself. Gratitude and enjoying the journey are essential for a fulfilling life. Setting big dreams and being kind to oneself when not reaching them can lead to great achievements. Building a community and sharing knowledge are important aspects of personal branding. Taking time for oneself and focusing on personal values can attract the right opportunities. Reshaping and rebranding oneself requires authenticity and a focus on one's skillset. Daily wins and planning for future wins can create a sense of accomplishment and progress. On today's show we chat to Kristina Karlsson, founder and former creative director of global Swedish design and stationery brand kikki.K - and recent founder of Dream Life.  At just 22 Kristina moved from her home in Sweden to Australia - a new country half a world away from family and friends. She had little money and no idea what to do with her life. But amidst uncertainty, inspiration struck in the humble setting of her home office. Dissatisfied with the mundane stationery options available, “Kikki” - her childhood nickname - wanted something more exciting. She borrowed a few thousand dollars to produce sample stationery, then tested it on friends. It was a bootstrapped venture, with a local manufacturer creating her products, which she drove around Melbourne delivering to retailers. Six years later, and when she couldn't get finance to expand the venture, she convinced her partner to sell his house, and the funds went into the first kikki.K store in 2001.  Kikki.K would go on to become an Australian retail powerhouse, making them millions of dollars. At its peak, kikki.K had 120 retail stores and a presence in over 150 countries.  Kristina ran and operated kikki.K for over 20 years, but the chaos of 2020 meant the company went into administration two times in two years. After this tumultuous time, Kristina parted ways with kikki.K in what she describes as the saddest and most heart-breaking day of her life.   To Kristina, though, this was everything but the end of the journey.  – Kristina is currently re-reading Robin Sharma's The Wealth Money Can't Buy: The 8 Hidden Habits to Live Your Richest Life. I am so excited to kick off the new year with an amazing guest, Kristina Karlsson. Kristina is the founder of Dream Life Store and the global Swedish design and stationery brand, Kikki K. She is also the author of the book, "Your Dream Life Starts Here," and is on a mission to inspire 101 million people to dream big and make their dreams happen. Kristina shares her personal journey of manifesting her dreams and provides incredible insights and actionable tips for creating your own dream life. Her story is so inspiring, and I hope it encourages you to take the necessary steps towards turning your dreams into reality. Kristina's path to manifesting her dream life started at the age of 23 when she moved from Sweden to Australia. She was feeling lost and unsure about her future. One sleepless night, she asked her partner, Paul, for guidance on what she should do with her life. He suggested that she write down what was important to her. On that list, Kristina discovered that she wanted to drive to work every day and love it. She also wanted to have her own business, work with Swedish design, have a connection with Sweden, and have the flexibility to be there for her family when needed. She even added a dream of having her life in both countries. These dreams seemed impossible at the time, but Kristina has gone on to achieve every single one of them. Coming through a very challenging time when Kikki-K was taken into voluntary administration not once, but twice during Covid, Kristina Karlsson shared openly about how the power of walking in nature, meditation and journaling helped her through.  I left this conversation feeling empowered to start my own list of dreams to bring into 2024, and I hope you do too.   Pre-order My New Book “You Always Have A Choice” here    Connect with Kristina: Free Resources Coaching and Courses   Connect with Julie: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/julie-hyde/ Instagram: @juliehydeleads Website: https://juliehyde.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, the story of a young Swedish farm girl who moved to Australia when she was 22, and with little command of the English language, managed to create a global stationary business that now has over 100 stores in 5 countries employing up to 1,000 people in the busy time … plus an online store selling to 147 countries. Kristina Karlsson is the founder and Creative Director of Kikki-K … a global Swedish design and stationery business she launched in 2001 when she cleverly managed to convince her then partner (now husband) Paul, to sell his home and max out all his credit cards in order to bring her dream to life. Well, her power of persuasion worked a treat, as Kikki-K is now a household name on the Australian stationary scene … a brand, that in Kristina’s own words is ‘empowering and inspiring stationery lovers everywhere to live their best life’. But, as you’re about to find out, the growth of this retail juggernaut hasn’t all been smooth sailing, as Kristina juggled opening up stores in multiple countries, with the pressures of family life and growing her dream business. I caught up with her at Kikki-K’s inner-Melbourne headquarters. Support the show.

Giants, this is episode #76! Today’s guest is an enormous inspiration. She’s the Founder and Creative Director of kikki.K, the award winning, global Swedish design and stationery business that offers stylish gifts, seasonal collections, stationery (of course) and functional organising tools – all to inspire and empower people to live their best life. Currently, kikki.K has 102 stores, they are stocked in another 250, and sold online in over 147 countries worldwide..     Needless to say the growth of this brand is staggeringly impressive. What makes it so, is how kikki.K all started. Our guest wrote on a piece of paper – all her dreams at 3am one morning when she couldn’t sleep, she was 22 years old. That was the seed. And in this episode we uncover the entire origin story, which is a testament to the power of staying true to our own dreams. Speaking of, since she emigrated to Australia from Sweden a couple of decades ago, it’s been her ambition to spread the power of dreaming big to the masses. So much so, she has set herself a target to inspire one hundred and one million people to write down three specific dreams, and to go chase after them. Some of the topics we spoke about include: Where she gets her inspiration to create the products that she releases What factors have influenced her level of scale Her self-care practices, including her 5am “holy hour” What she’s learnt from being coached 1:1 by Robin Sharma. So if you’re someone who also has big, bold ambitions but don’t know where to start, or perhaps there’s a voice inside you, nudging you that there’s something lacking, then this episode will be right up your alley. How to Remember to use your Planner

The Planner Podcast

Five easy tips to making using a planner a habit you will keep! Hi, this is Mim Jenkinson and you're listening to The Planner Podcast. Welcome back! Today are we going to talk about remembering to use your planner. I've spoken to so many of my readers and customers who really want to get into planning but one of the biggest things, which sounds really simple, but it's actually a big challenge for some is just remembering to use it. You know, making using a planner a habit. Sometimes you just don't know where to start with using a planner. Sometimes you just forget to use it regularly. Perhaps you just can't seem to make using a planner work for you and you think that perhaps you're not an organized person or you're not really a planner person and give up quite quickly. I think is a bit of a shame because planners actually, in my opinion, help you become organized so you don't become organized to start planning. It's the other way around! So, I wanted to give you a few tips on how to remember to use your planner more so that using it becomes something that you automatically do and that you want to do because you are really starting to see the benefits. I've got some practical ideas on how you can start to remember to use your planner a bit more. The first one is just to make sure that you are actually using the right kind of planner. Sometimes this is going to take a little bit of trial and error and it isn't as simple as just going into Kikki K or Erin Condren or Kmart or Target and looking at the planners and picking the one that you think is right for you or that that's the prettiest or will fit in with your desk or your handbag. These things are important but it's more what's inside and how actually using the planner is going to work for you. For example, I'm a big list maker so for me, a vertical planner where you actually write your plans in a vertical list each day, that's perfect for me. A horizontal planner or one with only a small of space to write in is not going to work for me. You might be someone who's more into bullet journaling or even just being a bit more creative and doodling and perhaps a vertical planner hasn't got the right kind of space capacity for you. You may need more space. You might have your planner like I do on my desk every day. It doesn't really move. I actually don't even take it away with me much anymore. So it doesn't matter to me how big my planner is, but if you're someone who takes yours out and about every day, you want to make sure it fits in your bag isn't too heavy. There are lots of different things to consider when making sure that you choose the right one. And I actually have an online program called Paper Planner 101 which helps you in a lot more detail pick the right planner for you. So, I'm going to link to that in the show notes or you can head to www.lovefrommim.com/planner101 to get much more info on that now. My second tip on remembering to use your planner is to find a time and a place to plan and then stick to it. That might be first thing in the morning and you might decide to keep your planner on your desk if you work from home or if you have your planner at work. It might be that you have your planner in your handbag all the time. So you know that when you finish with it, that's the place you always put it back. What time works best for you to actually use your planner? Is it first thing in the morning? Last thing at night? Before the kids get home, when you've got a few minutes to spare? When is a time that works for you and that you can consistently stick with every day or every week? For me, I actually like to plan my week ahead on a Friday afternoon. It took me a while to actually find this sweet spot and I used to plan on a Sunday evening for the week ahead. Now I find that last thing on a Friday when I'm a little bit kind of sleepy and not really focused, is actually a really nice quiet time for me to wrap up the kind of week's work and then think about what, I have in store for the week ahead. On a Friday afternoon I will plan for the Monday to Sunday the following week. For me, I love to use planner stickers and I like to spend about 15 minutes on a Friday afternoon, decorating my planner. It's a little bit of therapy time too! Having the opportunity to reflect on the week I've just had and then work out what I need to do for the week ahead. That means that on a Friday when I finish work, I don't need to think about work the whole weekend and when I wake up on a Monday morning, all of my plans are already in place. So I know exactly what I'm doing. There's no kind of scramble like, gosh, where do I start? You need to find a time that works for you and a place to actually store your planner that works for you as well. Which brings me onto the third tip because it really is where you're going to store it properly. Where are you going to keep your planner all the time. It needs to be somewhere, again, that's easy for you to reach and easy for you to put away. So, whether you're getting it or putting it away and Could it be your kitchen counter or in your handbag? Where will you use it the most? Maybe it's next to your bed. Trial a few different places to find what works for you. I like to keep my planner on my desk and I actually have it open on the week that I'm within as well so it's always open and ready. All my notes, all my plans and lists are there. They're in my face constantly. So there's no getting away from the fact that I know what I should be doing and when. Tip number four, remembering to use our planner is to really train the habit. Don't expect to decide what planner you're going to use, where you're going to keep it and when you're going to use it and just stick to that from day one. I think it takes a little bit of trial and error to find a system that works for you. I read an awesome book recently called "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. One of the things he talks about in the book is 'habit stacking'. I've tested that in a few different areas of my life recently. Basically habit stacking is when you take a good habit that you've already mastered and then you add something else to the chain of habits that you want to become a habit next. For example, it might be when you start work in the morning, if opening your inbox is the first thing that you do automatically, maybe that's the first good habit you have. Maybe you can add a rule onto that, that you don't open your inbox until you've checked your planner first. Perhaps that's a way of incorporating your planner into your daily routine. Or maybe before you go to bed every night, do you load your dishwasher and pack your work bag? Like Perhaps that's a habit stack that you've already got. Maybe you can add to that the habit of opening your planner to the following day's page and leaving it open on your desk or wherever you're keeping the planner so that the first thing you do when you wake up is look at your planner and know what you have to do for the day. Have a think about the good habits that you already have and how you can add some planner habits to that stack. Anyway, I love that. I've been using it for loads of different things in my life. The fifth tip on how to use your planner is to set yourself a reminder to use it and do it often. I know this sounds a bit strange to remind yourself to remember to use your planner! But if all else fails and you have to set a reminder on your phone or an alarm clock somewhere for the first week or so to really make using your planner a daily habit that you automatically do, then just do it. Give it a try and see because if you decided on when you want to use your planner and then you set a phone alarm to go off at that time every day or every week to do it over time, you're not going to need that alarm anymore. You'll eventually just adopt the habit over time and stick to yourself and then you'll start to see the benefits of using your planner and that will help you continue to use it more. So give it a go. I hope my five tips on remembering to use your planner have helped! I think most mostly it comes down to the fact that when you found the right planner that works for you and when you start to see results or you start to be more organized or feel less overwhelmed or more on top of things, you'll really enjoy the process of planning. Then it's inevitable that you're going to want to do that more because you see that something's working for you, you enjoy it and you continue to do it. One of the biggest challenges is if you haven't quite found the right planner for you yet. If you are struggling with that, you check out my course here. Reach out with any questions you have about using a planner or making it work for your life and lifestyle. I'd love to help if I can. Thank you so much for listening!

From Mamamia this is Lady Startup, the show where we get the real story from women who’ve created incredible businesses from the ground up. Rachel Corbett’s guest today is founder of luxe stationery brand, Kikki K, Kristina Karlsson. At 22, Kristina moved from Sweden to Australia for her partner Paul. Although she always knew she wanted to start her own business, it was only after shopping for her own home office that she had a “eureka!” moment. Disappointed with how unappealing Australian stationary was, she decided to create her own range with a focus on clean Swedish design.  Customers loved it and she created an entirely new product category that was copied all over the world. Rachel and Kristina also discuss her book “Your Dream Life Starts Here”. She is passionate about the power of dreaming and explains how she loves helping people turn their pie in the sky dreams into reality. You can purchase Kristina’s book “ Your Dream Life Starts Here” on our Mamamia online book store ... apple.co/mamamia This episode of Lady Startup was made possible by Yellow Quotes. In this episode of the podcast, I'm talking to Kristina Karlsson, founder and creative director of global Swedish design and stationary brand, Kikki K. Today, the business is sold 102 of its own stores, stocked in another 250 and is available in 170 countries international but it didn't start that way. The idea for Kikki K stemmed from an 3am epiphany when Kristina was 22. She found herself in a new country, away from home, friends and family and not happy with the work she was doing and it pushed her to think about her next move needed to look like. The rest, as they say, is history. In the show, Kristina talks about how she was able to take the idea she had for the business and take action and how anyone else with an idea can do the same. She talks about why it's so important to disconnect before we reconnect, shares the morning routine she swears by and breaks down how we can all quickly and easy identify the “one thing” we should be focuses on above all else. At The Lifestyle Edit, we're big believers that our businesses should support the life we want to lead and not the other way around so we deep dive into what it really means to cultivate a definition of success on your own terms and how Kristina is doing exactly that. I was lucky enough to meet Kristina in her Melbourne home (although it would have been lovely to visit the one in Sweden) on International Women's Day for fika (a Swedish coffee and cake break) and she truly lives and breathes her brand in everything she does. She is insatiably curious and the ultimate dreamer, which she has captured in beautiful Swedish style in her new (and first) book, Your Dream Life Starts Here. 001 - How to Journal for the non 'Dear-Diary' type

The Positive Pants Podcast

This week's podcast episode is all about journaling. Ok so I know people have been banging on about journaling for a while but bear with me here! NOT THE TYPE I have never been the ‘type’ to write feelings down in a diary so I did what you probably just did…you know…that little eye roll…yes I know! UNTIL I got to breaking point in my life, knew something had to change and was willing to try anything, so I decided to stop ignoring the fact that EVERYONE said it worked…and i’ve never looked back. It literally changed my life. 5 minutes per night was enough to shift my mindset for the better. So I want YOU to stop ignoring it and i’m going to try and show you how and why it works and talk you through the potential ‘side effects’ so you can get started and start living a happier and more fulfilled life…honestly it really does that and you deserve that! BACKED BY SCIENCE There are a HUGE amount of scientific studies on the benefits of journaling (which I won’t go into now in the interests of time…your friend Google or Siri can help you out there) and it’s emotional benefits and the benefits on your mental health in general. So much so that doctors, therapists, counselors and coaches routinely recommend it for patients. But it doesn’t need to be something that takes you hours every day and is just another thing to add to your never ending to do list…no, no my friend! DO THE BARE MINIMUM There are countless ways to do ‘the bare minimum’ and still get HUGE benefits from it, start small and see how you go. Some of my favourites, before I started designing my own printables based on what was working for me, positive psychology, a little neuroplasticity and gratitude, were the 5 minute journal, the Happiness Planner, Kikki K’s sentence a day or gratitude journal. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO FIND YOUR OWN ‘STYLE’ AND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. There are many different ways to journal and you need to find one that works for you because guess what…if it feels like a chore…you won’t do it! DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU THAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY STICK TO! Some of the lovely benefits of journaling include: Feeling more gratitude – The opposite of anxiety and you can’t feel both at the same time…BONUS! More Happiness. You will be more Mindful throughout your day. You will feel you have more focus and purpose. Better relationships with other people. A more positive outlook. Be more accountable to yourself. You’ll start the day off or finish the day off with a MUCH better mindset. You will consciously start to look for positive things to include throughout your day and stop focusing on the negative. You will have more memories and won’t let life slip you by. You’ll actually write down your goals and ideas and be more likely to achieve them. Reduce stress. Be kinder. Generally be a better version of yourself! IS THAT ENOUGH TO CONVINCE YOU? Give it a go for a week, what have you got to lose? Find out more here.
