Are you passionate enough to choose the right path for yourself? Or are you still discovering what you want to pursue? It is fine both ways. We introduce you to Mr. Andrew R Banks, the chairman of the Veneto Group. In his early life, he wanted to become a doctor, but he did not fit in that environment. Here is how his being misfit led him to be what he is today. Andrew shares with us some fascinating instances about how he got into the field he is currently working in. In his early life, he tells us that he was a bright student, especially good at science. So, his mother wanted him to be a doctor. He grew up and chose medicines as his subject, which he now calls a mistake in his life because he couldn't stand the smell of blood. Later, he dropped out of the university. He feels he was intelligent but was a misfit. After this he shifted to Australia, as he says, “to find myself”. There he did various jobs like acting, working in a restaurant etc. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tbcy/support

In this episode, I interview Rachael Ferguson, the Co-Founder, and CEO of SynxBody and the Founder of Elite Sports Podiatry. She’s also a podiatry industry expert who educates her clients and the community about common (and not so common!) podiatry-related complaints. In 2011, aged 28 and with a three-year-old, Rachael started a podiatry product business with her business partner while they were both still working in their clinics. On Shark Tank four years later, they landed esteemed business person Andrew Banks as an investor and mentor. In 2017, with sales still not cracking $100,000 per annum, her partner exited and Rachael totally transformed herself and the business. In the first year on her own, she grew sales by 300%, then 170%, and when COVID hit, that slowed to 60% to 70% per annum. Beginning with two full-time employees (The business partners), the business now has three full-time employees including herself. They funded the business with their savings and Rachael funded the transformation with some investment funds which she repaid in three months. The business started off with one product and now has 16. She felt she had succeeded when within six months of taking full control of the business, she got into the biggest chemist chain in Australia, Chemist Warehouse. Rachael says the hardest thing about growing a small business is resilience, and the one thing she would tell herself on day one of starting out is, “Buckle up and prepare for the ride of your life. It’s going to be tricky and super hard, but be resilient” Put your hands together ladies and gentlemen, for Rachael Ferguson. Enjoy the episode! This Cast Covers: Starting two businesses within one year and creating the best insoles on the planet. The footcare company that made foot care products that went into the pharmacy business. Manufacturing in China and selling through a diverse range of outlets all over Australia. Struggling for the first six and a half years of the business being in the trenches and not getting paid only to turn things around and achieve huge growth in the last three years. Learning how the business operates, hiring two main employees, and outsourcing to contractors in the US, Australia, UK, and different parts of Spain. Soul searching to find out why the business wasn’t working and how it helped her turn the business around within six months. Changing the packaging to be more competitive and diversifying into more products. How adding incremental value led to an increase in orders. Creating neutral insoles that are suitable for most foot types from a podiatry point of view. The importance of a small business owner identifying where their demographic is before they come up with a marketing strategy. Building the business on customer service by making sure they always deliver what their customers need. How they bootstrapped using a combination of savings and loans until an investor came in. Gaining from export grants and R&D grants from the government. Being passionate about health, podiatry, and keeping people moving and on their feet. The hardest year of her business growth journey and what it taught her. The power of getting the marketing and branding right, and how a branding expert can help with that. The challenges she had with inventory management and developing an effective system around it. Creating products that help people and result in a lot of great feedback from customers. How having a business coach positively impacted her in her entrepreneurial journey. Why every small business owner should do the “Miracle Morning” Focusing on hiring like-minded individuals who share in the business vision. The value in investing in your employees and teaching them all you can do so they can do it too. Constantly working on achieving some work-life balance through proper time management. Making an everyday process of investing in her personal development. How resilience can help in growing a small business. The systems and tools they use to help with inventory management. On today’s show, how failed actor Andrew Banks came to starting two of the world’s largest recruitment companies, then found his way back to the small screen as one of the original sharks on the hit series Shark Tank . Andrew Banks started two of Australia's largest companies in the recruitment and HR industry. He took recruitment company Morgan & Banks just shy of one billion dollars in sales, and Talent 2, a business-process outsourcing business which he grew to four hundred million dollars in sales. These days Andrew is the Resident Entrepreneur at Sydney’s Tank Stream Labs , part of the largest start-up hub in Australia, plus he’s an active investor in over twenty start-ups including a non-alcoholic range of spirits, and an online learning tool for kids. There’s a lot to love about Andrew Banks. His heart-felt passion for helping business owners (just like you) succeed across all aspects of your business quickly becomes evident during this very generous chat, as he shares his tips and insights on how to build an empire, to creating a culture that attracts and retains great people, to growth hacks that you can implement immediately, as well as his thoughts on the (often difficult to attain) work / life balance. “Money is not the goal of a good business. Money is the outcome. Don’t go into business just to make money, because that’s just not good enough. You’ve got to have a good purpose, a good business model, satisfy needs ... and the money will come.” - Andrew Banks Support the show.

The reason you should care about MISRA C is a simple one. It stops you from doing things that the C language allows you to do that you really don’t want to do. Well, maybe not so simple. But that’s the way that Andrew Banks explained it to me in this week’s Five Minutes with…discussion. Andrew is the Chairman of the MISRA C Working Group and also a Technical Specialist with LDRA. There are some anomalies within C that even savvy developers may not be aware of. Conforming to the spec will make all your troubles go away…at least your development troubles.
Andrew Banks made a motza from building two of the world's largest recruitment companies - Morgan & Bans and Talent 2. He's also one of the original sharks on the Australian version of Shark Tank in which he's already invested in nine start-ups. He has an infectious attitude towards business that I know you're going to love. “In order to build a solid team culture, we would recruit around people's personality, style, and passion. So we'd hire Accountants to recruit Accountants, and Engineers to recruit Engineers. We recruit around who the person was as opposed to what they used to do.” – Andrew Banks, Shark Tank There's loads more tips and insights just like this that will help you build that beautiful business of yours into the empire it deserves to be. Hit the PLAY button above to listen now, or subscribe free to hear the full interview. If you have questions about how to build an empire from scratch then you'll get the answers in this interview with shark Andrew Banks, including: How to build a strong team culture? Why buying an ad in the Super Bowl was one of the best marketing moves ever! How to attract and retain great people. What makes a great leader. How to manage adversity in business. How to become a Shark on Shark Tank! And plenty more … A little more about today's guest, Shark Tank's Andrew Banks: Andrew Banks is a failed actor Andrew Banks. A good-looking failed actor, but a failed actor nonetheless. Realising his days in front of the camera were numbered, he borrowed $5,000 on two credit cards to get his first business off the ground. Fast forward 30 years and he's established two of the world's biggest recruitment companies – Morgan & Banks and Talent 2, employing thousands of people globally. Along the way, he's made an absolute motza! These days, he's back in front of the camera, as one of the sharks on Network Ten's Shark Tank, whose task it is to either fund or maul startups and inventors ready to take their idea to the next level. He's proudly made more mistakes than all of us combined, which places him in a great position to share what it takes to build a business empire literally from scratch. Here's what caught my attention from my chat with Andrew Banks from Shark Tank: He's a genuinely good bloke. Very accessible and very giving of his time. I loved his advice around finding time to get creative in your business. And his view on marketing versus sales is critical. Too many business owners don't separate the two. You do because you're listening to this show .. but what about the rest!? Harmonica, mouth organ, harp – whatever you call it, it’s an instrument that crosses many genres and despite its small size, is very complex. Andrew Banks, player and teacher, was Sylvia’s guest on Arts Wednesday 8 August 2018. Listen to their conversation (with music) here.
For those of you who have listened to episode 1 with Ryan Tuckwood, you may remember he also has a business partner in Jack Corbett, who is the other side of both ISR Traning and Corbwood & Associates, based on the Gold Coast. This down to earth pair were actually on Shark Tank recently and managed to secure investment from Andrew Banks, Steve Baxter and Glen Richards which has enabled them to grow quite exponentially in a short time from the foundations Jack, Ryan and their team have been building for about 3 years now.I caught up with Jack, again at ISR HQ in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast and got to pick his brains on all things business, sales and mindset. Jack came from humble beginnings and was able to achieve what most people would identify as success, which was getting himself into a position where he didn’t have to go to work anymore. What was intriguing is that what proceeded was one of the more depressing and perhaps slightly destructive periods of his life, something he will put into context far more eloquently than I can.If you want to know what it’s like to start, scale and sell a business, secure investment from some of the most savvy people in the game and where your head needs to be, then I think you’ll get a lot out of this one!And if you do get something out of this, please free to give us a rating or a review and I’ll feature a shout out to you on the next episode!LinkedIN: Jack Corbett (The best way to connect with Jack)Matt:@matt__fay@narrativehub
