From the Bible I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. John 17:14–18 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. We are taking a small break this July to gear up for season five of the Strong Women podcast. But during this break, we decided to re-air some episodes that we thought you would enjoy. Our guests today are Linda Noble and Linda Stewart, affectionately called “The Lindas.” I love how these two ladies in different seasons of life looked at the world around them and asked, “What is missing that we can add?” They tell us how they joined together to learn and then create something that offers a window into God's design for sex, which fits into the larger story that He wants to be known by us, and He uses His creation—including our own bodies—to pursue a relationship with us. I am excited for you to learn about how God has designed our bodies and our sexuality to invite us into a deeper relationship with Him. We must learn these big truths about God's design in order to invite the young people in our lives to grasp the significance of the gift of sex within marriage. Without the big picture, this seems like just a rule to follow instead of an invitation to flourish.   You can leave a voicemail for us at 719-838-6700. Our guest in this episode is Catherine Stephenson who lives in Ajijic, Mexico. The owner and name behind Catherine Stephenson Couture, she's been in the sewing world doing what she loves for more than 35 years. Originally from Portland OR, she travelled to Madison WI to earn her BA in textiles and clothing from the University of Wisconsin. Returning to Portland after that, she opened her business and worked to create the Custom Clothing Guild that eventually became the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers (PACC). All of this led to…well, let's let her tell you her story! (3:06) Catherine tells us how she began to sew and who inspired her as a youth, then in Madison, WI as a high school sophomore. Then, when she went to the University, there was a sewing program that enticed her to attend there. AND – a textile chemistry lab. Then, she talks about the ready to wear industry and why it wasn't for her. (9:26) What initially took her to Madison from Portland. Well, there was a connection there from the beginning. (10:26) She was taught in a system that funneled people into the ready to wear industry. Why? Catherine explains! (12:36) Catherine talks about fast fashion and where it's going…what our culture supports. (14:42) Catherine talks about what it took to found the Custom Clothing Guild of Oregon in January of 1992…to her…is was easy peazy!  (20:02) Catherine explains the quality standards and how they are implemented industry wide by the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals (ASDP) (31:01) She talks about Linda Stewart and how together they developed the Master Sewing & Design Certification Program. (24:10) Catherine talks about her own career and the long-term relationships she has with her clients. It's the specialness of each unique piece. It's all a symbiotic process and price range/timing is a part of it! And, why she'll only do special events now. (30:40) Why did she close her business? Well, global warming had a little to do with it…as well as a special culture in the Ex-Pat community of Ajijic. They are a part of building Mexico's first co-housing community. What is this? She explains! (34:00) Both Catherine and her husband are artists. She talks in depth about their work and his world renown Spotify channel! (37:31) Ajijic Chic is her line of “Easy Fit Clothing for Lakeside Living”. Catherine talks about how she envisioned this, made it happen and how she brings her creations to her customers. (43:17) Fast Fashion? Oh yes, she does have an opinion about it. She takes us through her thinking. And what this has done to the value of sewing. (48:10) What didn't I ask? Catherine talks about her association's relationship with the Department of Labor to develop and run a 2-year apprenticeship program to teach people to sew and eventually get into the job market. There is also a non-profit that people go through to contribute to this program. You can reach Catherine on her website which is www.cscouture.com, or email her directly at Catherine@cscouture.com Her husband Allen's library on Mixcloud can be found at https://auralfixations.allanstephenson.com If you know someone who has an outstanding story that should be shared on this podcast, drop Meg a note to Meg@sewandsopodcast.com or complete the form on our website.

For most off-road racing fans, Ivan “Ironman” Stewart needs no introduction. Stewart utterly dominated off-road and stadium racing in the 1980s and 90s. Born in 1945, Stewart grew up in East County, San Diego. As a youngster, he raced go-carts, competing on street circuits on both sides of the border.  Stewart made the unlikely leap to off-road racing in 1973. Scheduled to co-drive the Ensenada 300 in a Class 2 buggy with his friend Bill Hrynko --before the race, Hrynko broke his leg. Stewart raced the event solo, virtually unheard of then, and won! A tradition and a nickname were born.  In 1983, Stewart joined PPI Motorsports, Toyota's factory-backed race team. At the time, Stewart was seeking a ride from an American manufacturer --“something with a V-8 motor.” The 4-cylinder motor and the Japanese truck didn't sound like a winning combination to Stewart.  Cal Wells, head of PPI, stressed the reliability and the better weight-to-horsepower ratio of the Toyota and talked Stewart into taking the ride. This unlikely marriage created one of racing's longest and most successful relationships. Stewart and Toyota teamed up for over 30 years resulting in unparalleled success in the Mickey Thompson Stadium Series and SCORE Off-Road desert racing. Slow Baja would like to thank Carol Mears for her help in arranging this conversation. While at a conference in St. Louis, I got the privilege to interview Linda Noble and Linda Stewart from The Conversation Workshop. In this episode, they share how understanding the meaning behind God's design of our body can bring us closer to Jesus and reveal a  new perspective on our biology.  In a season of distress and depression, Linda Noble shares how God flipped the script and led her to experience Himself in a way she never had before. She states, "I had never understood that His love and was full of pursuit and that his utmost desire was for me to know him, flourish and thrive."  How do we experience the love of Jesus? What does it mean to be a human person, and what is the meaning behind sex, singleness, marriage, and our body? What if understanding these topics could point us closer to Jesus and expand our understanding of His will for our lives?  Linda Noble explains how the design of the human body reveals God's invitation for love and communion with Himself. And why the "rules, the dos and do nots" fall short because they lack the meaning behind God's message. This podcast is pivotal not only for ourselves but also for us parents raising kids in a time where our body is being attacked by culture. As parents, we need to know the why behind our kids' questions and the meaning behind God's teachings. Join me today for a great conversation with the Lindas from The Conversation Workshop. The Conversation Workshops Resources:https://theconversationworkshop.com/https://theconversationworkshop.com/bookhttps://www.facebook.com/theconversationworkshop/Our Resources:https://www.instagram.com/restored2more/https://restored2more.com/https://restored2more.com/courses/

There's a story, a set of rules and ideas that you've accepted as truth for your body and your sexuality. You might not even be aware. It's ok, we've all done it. But, what if we were to UN-do the story?Authors Linda Noble and Linda Stewart join Josh on the podcast to pull apart the narrative and present you with an invitation to The Body and Personhood. There are no rules here, just God's heart for the human person you are meant to be.There is an unrepeatable value about each person. There is an unrepeatable value to you. Let's dive in.Highlights:We need to rewrite the paradigm. We need to go back to the very beginning and start over.Actually, we are embodied persons. Our body expresses who we are and the things that we do with our body affects who we are and our person. So, we really need to change the message. There's a difference between our body being an expression of who we are versus an accessory.Homework:Prayer for your body: “God thank you for this strong body that enables me to love and live and serve, to see that my body is not about my appearance but about how it expresses the love from God through my person. I pray those parts of my body that I feel ashamed of or wish were different, that I can see them now as the way I express God's love to others and also to Him.”Practice for your body to recognize others as whole persons: Retrain yourself talk to say, I see the whole person when I see my best friend. I see the whole person when I see my family members. Practical exercise for your body: Model whole seeing by making EYE CONTACT, which acknowledges the person. Also, TALK about others as whole people when complimenting. We are more than the pimple on our forehead, or our stature or shape. Try using language for yourself and others that reflects what you see about the whole person (i.e. their kindness, patience or generosity).Extras:Before The Sex Talk: A Theology of the Body Approach for Parents and Mentors by Linda Beth Noble and Linda Marie Stewart Linda Noble, Ministry Director at Journey Community Church in La Mesa, CA Linda Stewart, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Supervisor at Safe Haven Relationship Center in Carlsbad, CATheology of the Body Transcription:Full Transcription Available hereSupport Becoming Whole

Most people think of Edgar Degas as a French painter of ballerinas. But few have heard that his mother came from New Orleans or that he spent five months in that city between October 1872 and February 1873. That five-month period proved crucial to Degas’s career, moving him from the status of a relative unknown dabbling in the not-quite-respectable world of the Paris Opera into an artist of renown. And although he went back to painting ballerinas—many of his most famous works date from 1873 and later—it was his study of his brothers, A Cotton Office in New Orleans, that won him the critical acclaim that pushed him into the next stage of his career. In Estelle (She Writes Press, 2020), Linda Stewart Henley takes this vital transition as her starting point for a dual-time story in which a young woman named Anne Gautier, twenty-two years old and fresh out of college, inherits an old house on Esplanade Avenue in New Orleans in 1970. While overseeing renovations and dealing with protestors opposed to urban renewal that displaces the poor, Anne discovers an old journal that sheds light on Degas, his friends and family and sojourn in the city—in a house just down the street from hers. Her attempts to uncover more information reveal mysteries both personal and artistic, and soon Anne must tackle some very basic questions regarding what she wants from life. Interspersed with Anne’s story is the narrative of Degas’s sister-in-law, the Estelle of the title, as she welcomes her visiting brother-in-law and observes his adjustment to family life. Estelle has troubles of her own: she’s pregnant with her third child, she’s losing her eyesight, and her marriage suffers as the family cotton business struggles to stay afloat in the aftermath of the US Civil War. Yet she perseveres, and these relatively quiet domestic scenes contrast well with Anne’s more dramatic conflicts and with the occasional diary entries reproduced from the journal Anne has discovered. The end result is a thoroughly enjoyable tale of the changing fortunes of a great city and the life of an artist, told through the perspectives of three women governed by expectations that are in some ways quite similar, although the options available to them are not similar at all. C. P. Lesley is the author of ten novels, including Legends of the Five Directions, a historical fiction series set during the childhood of Ivan the Terrible.
