The holidays can be a magical time, but for many busy moms, they bring stress, overwhelm, and exhaustion. In Episode 211 of The Secrets of Supermom Show, Lori Oberbroeckling, mom of four, corporate leader, and author of Secrets of Supermom: How Extraordinary Moms Succeed at Work and Home—and How You Can Too, shares three simple steps to reduce holiday stress and bring back the joy.Step 1: Identify Your Shoulds and Have-TosLori suggests starting with a “Holiday Yes List” and a “Holiday No List.” Focus on activities that bring joy and eliminate those that feel like obligations or drain your energy. By identifying what excites you and letting go of what doesn't, you can reclaim the magic of the season.Step 2: Plan Your PrioritiesTo ensure your favorite traditions happen, schedule them on your calendar. Whether it's decorating the tree, baking cookies, or attending a festive event, intentional planning ensures your most meaningful activities take center stage. For tasks on your “No List,” consider delegating, outsourcing, or skipping them entirely.Step 3: Protect Your EnergyThe holiday season can be demanding, so prioritize habits that keep you energized. Schedule time for self-care, whether it's getting enough rest, staying active, or enjoying quiet moments to recharge. Eliminating energy drains and focusing on energy boosts will help you stay present and joyful.By following these steps, you can transform the holidays into a season of joy, connection, and magic. For the show notes and all the links mentioned in today's episode, head to secretsofsupermom.com/211.Stay connected!Join us in The Supermom Society! "C-Roc" welcomes Lori Oberbroeckling, author of Secrets of Supermom to discuss the multi-faceted journey of motherhood and personal identity. Lori delves into the challenges many mothers face when their children grow up, often feeling a void in their identity. She emphasizes the importance of mothers maintaining their interests and passions alongside their parenting responsibilities, highlighting how this balance leads to a more fulfilling life and eases the transition when children leave home. Lori shares her experiences and insights from working with mothers, advocating for the necessity of retaining individual hobbies and professional goals even when parenting young children. This approach not only brings joy but also fosters resilience and self-worth independent of motherhood. The conversation transitions into the broader theme of self-identity, with both Lori and C-Roc discussing the dangers of solely identifying with a single role—whether it's being a mother, a professional, or any other defining label. Lori recounts her swift 34-day writing journey for Secrets of Supermom the challenges of the editing process, and how her perspectives have evolved over time, reflecting her continuous growth and learning. They also discuss the initial excitement of writing a book, the subsequent self-doubt, and the realization that personal experiences and unique viewpoints are incredibly valuable to others. The dialogue touches on leveraging one's platform for greater impact, balancing personal recognition with genuine influence, and the authenticity required to make a real difference. “Freedom isn't being able to do what I want whenever I want to. Freedom is not feeling pressure about it, and by planning it out, I don't feel the pressure.”–Lori OvebroecklingCan you be supermom AND feel super balanced? Lori Overbroeckling, author of Secrets of Supermom: How Extraordinary Moms Succeed at Work and Home & How You Can Too!, says yes! As the mom of four with a corporate job and a business, she's learned how to make time for all the things that fill her cup. First, let's clarify. Does it work perfectly every day? No. Are there stressful moments? 100%, but overall, she feels balanced and good about how she spends her time. It wasn't always that way. Weekly planning helped turn things around. It allowed her to see things that weren't going to work and choose to move them or delegate them or cancel them. In other words, she got to be intentional instead of putting out fires all the time. Her plan, and this idea is not new if you have been around for a while, includes not just work, but all her family stuff, a meal plan, workouts … all the stuff in one plan. We talk about: Planning from calm instead of panicHow essential white space is in your planBuffer time, adjusting the schedule as you go (without just throwing it out), and the mindset of letting go and moving on when your plan doesn't go as plannedHow to ease the pain of back to school schedule changes (or any big schedule change)Cutting out extras to be able to provide more emotional support during transitionsCarrying a piece of summer into fall to ease transitions in our family and our workABOUT LORILori Whitney Oberbroeckling is a mom of four, corporate leader, podcaster, productivity expert, and author of the book Secrets of Supermom: How Extraordinary Moms Succeed at Work and Home & How You Can Too! In addition to running my coaching business as C'N'C's CEO, I'm a certified coach for a premier virtual fitness and nutrition program helping others feel better while sustaining a healthy lifestyle. My mom and dad are thrilled that I'm putting my Exercise Science degree to good use. In this podcast, Kelli is with Lori Oberbreokling, who is committed to helping mothers in achieving their professional goals while also ensuring that they are present and connected to their families. She recently published Secrets Of Super Mom, a book about how extraordinary moms succeed at working from home and how you can too. For moms who want it all. All in the book! She's giving tips, techniques, and quick wins.   They also talked about:    8:23 - If you were miserable, or you're exhausted, then let's just pause, just think about it for just a second 14:41 - I was kind of whining about that, you were probably complaining. Because those statements are not intended to solve a problem. They're intended just to solve the problem they're pointing to intended 16:22 - I'm going to vent this out, and then I'm going to start working on the solution. 17:30 - Consistent complaining actually physically changes your body composition. So, if your brain is thinking only about problems, and it forgets how to actually make solutions. 23:29 - How do they know what you need if you don't communicate? 29:09 - Sit down and have that conversation with your spouse or partner.    Lori taught us that whining is not a good habit to have. That it has an impact on us both physically and mentally, and that the most important thing you can do to get started on achieving your goals is to ask the right questions rather than complaining because whining accomplishes nothing. The most important thing is to split it 50/50 and assign it to the family members by working as a team or family team.   Quotes   I believe we must remember that we now have the opportunity to pause and ask ourselves, "What do I really want to come back into my life?"   Complaining ends up creating more problems than it solves. So far, we've only spoken about the problem and we're not getting anywhere.   Find a goal-oriented group. That attempts to achieve a goal, not cause a problem. If you've been feeling like that to-do list is just way too long (oh, and by the way, you don't even care), then this is the podcast episode you've been waiting for. In this episode, I got to interview Lori Oberbroeckling, who's just released her new book, Secrets of Supermom: How Extraordinary Moms Succeed at Work and Home & How You Can Too! Lori kicks off this interview by telling us exactly how to tackle that shared lack of motivation we've all been feeling. The burnout, the overwhelm, and let's be honest, the apathy about so many of the “things” we're supposed to do and care about. We also talk about how to identify your motivation style (so cool!), so you know what levers to pull when you lack motivation. For instance, do you get motivated by rewards? Those accolades that you're sure are coming when you're done with your projects or tasks? Or do you care more about what you'll learn how you'll impact others? It's such a fun conversation! I mean, how often do we get to really sit down and notice what motivates us? She talks about all of this in the interview, and she covers the motivational styles in her book, too.
