iPhone 16e First Look: Unboxing, Setup, and Initial Impressions

In this podcast, Michael Hansen takes a first look at Apple's iPhone 16e, the latest member of the iPhone 16 family. He unboxes the device, goes through setup, and gives his initial impressions.TranscriptDisclaimer: This transcript was generated by Aiko, an AI-powered transcription app. It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers' names, voices, or content.Hello Apple Vis.This is Michael Hansen. Thanks so much for tuning in.I hope you're having a great day.In this podcast, I'm going to be unboxing, setting up, and giving my initial first impressions of the iPhone 16e.The iPhone 16e is the latest member of the iPhone 16 family. It has all kind of the same foundational features as the rest of the iPhone 16 models. So the A18 processor, Apple intelligence, things like that, but it comes at a more affordable price point.I say more affordable because it's still a little bit more than kind of what I, and I think probably think it's safe to say many others, were hoping for.For reference here, the devices start out at $599 for the 16e, $799 for the 16, $899 for the 16+, $999 for the 16 Pro, and $1199 for the 16 Pro Max.But the other side of it is that this device has a lot, and I mean a lot of the same features as the more expensive, kind of the more costly other iPhone 16 models. It's got the action button, it's got the A18 processor, so there's no chipset, a generation behind, anything like that. It's got some new tech in there as well, and it's got the Apple C1, the new Apple C1 modem, which is going to deliver, hopefully deliver better battery life, the best battery life Apple says on a 6.1 inch phone. It also has the action button, which is really, really cool, and it's got some interesting uses, not just in terms of the types of things that you can do with it for turning off and on focus, which is what I use my personal unit for.But also you could even have it go to the home screen.Speaking of the home screen on the iPhone 16e, this device has face ID and does not have a home button, and I know that as soon as I say that, there is probably going to be a subset of people going, what, no home button, and that's okay.Don't feel bad if that's you, if the transition away from the home button concerns you.Don't be embarrassed about it, don't be ashamed of it.There's plenty of ways to make it work. There's some new gestures for going to the home screen and other functions like that.If the gestures are too difficult or just flat out don't work for you, you can always remap some voiceover gestures, some existing ones, or my favorite is you can use the action button to trigger a shortcut to take you right to the home screen. That's really, really cool.So Apple was kind enough to lend me an iPhone 16e and a case for review, and they sent me the white, I was thinking gold, these phones come in white and black, there is no gold.Apple sent me the white iPhone 16e 512 gigabyte storage and a white silicone case.I've got the boxes right here, so let's go ahead and I'll tell you about the case first because I like to, when I take a phone out, I like to immediately put it in a case.So let's go ahead and open this up…

It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers' names, voices, or content. Hello there and welcome to AppleViz Extra. This is episode number 100.My name is Dave Nason and this is a very exciting day guys. We're back.I'm joined by Thomas Domville, Tyler Stephen and Michael Hansen from the AppleViz team. How are you guys?I'm good.I'm doing wonderful. How are you Mr. Dave?I am great. It's an exciting day. It's our first day back online.Oh yeah, it's been a really, really exciting day and a big day for us and a big day for the community and love to share in just the outpour of support that we've seen on the website and people are back and it's a great day and it's also an Apple keynote day.Yes, what timing we have, eh?Well, it's ironic. It's like we planned it on purpose.Yes, so where again?Every time what happens, I say I can't believe another year has gone by, but here we go. iPhone event again and some other stuff too.It was an interesting event. It opened actually with a video which had quite a lot of accessibility slash disability references in it.I don't know if you guys noticed that, if you had the audio description on.I did and that was very nice that they incorporate that, isn't it?I mean, they always do like a million gazillion videos, but it just always seemed to be that first one. That's always the most important one.So putting accessibility in there was a nice touch.Yeah, that was cool. And then Tim came on stage or wherever he was outside somewhere. He seemed to be shouting a lot at the start.I don't know if anyone else noticed that, but yeah, he set the scene. He mentioned Apple intelligence in pretty much his first sentence, I think. So I think that kind of set the scene for the afternoon or for the morning.Right.It was almost like, you know how WWDC, we had this Christmas gift and we opened it.It's like, oh, Apple intelligence. We were so excited. They just went ba ba ba ba ba ba ba all the way down.I feel like today they just rewrapped the gift and we just reopened it because they just went through the whole same thing over again. And you know, Google were accused of exactly the same thing at their Pixel event that they just re-advanced.I thought I was hearing some familiar things. They were talking about iOS 18 and all of a sudden I was like, wait a minute, this is not anything new.I mean, okay, you want to re-advance.Okay, that's kind of how you know you're getting to the end of the announcement of whatever the product is.They start talking about the software. They're refreshing you on what to expect.Yeah, I think that's the thing about AI marketing is that when you're marketing that and it's so much of that is software based, you got to kind of beat the drums, the AI…

He also wrote a relatively small amount of science fiction. Best known as the writer of Psycho (1959), the basis for the film of the same name by Alfred Hitchcock, Bloch wrote hundreds of short stories and over 30 novels. He was a protégé of H. P. Lovecraft, who was the first to seriously encourage his talentMindwebs was a 1970's series out of WHA Radio in Wisconsin that featured weekly semi-dramatized readings of science fiction short stories performed by Michael Hansen. It aired stories by some of the genre's best writers like Robert Bloch, Arthur C. Clarke, Gordon R. Dickson, and Ray Bradbury. Many of the readings were enhanced by music, periodic sound cues, and the occasional character voice, however they are not completely dramatized.Relevant Links:"The Man Who Collected Poe" by Robert Bloch on Rish Outcast (Patreon)Theme music: Liberator by Man In SpaceTo comment on this or any episode:Send comments and/or recordings to journeyintopodcat@gmail.comPost a comment on Facebook here, or on X here

Imagine going to prison for something you did not do.  In the early 1990s, the new power of DNA evidence revealed that a small percentage of inmates in our nation's prisons were being locked away — some for life — for crimes they did not commit. They had been found guilty based on wrong eye-witness identifications, misconduct by law enforcement, faulty forensic testimony and junk science or simply been coerced into a confession. Since then, dozens of organizations have formed across the country to provide investigative and legal services to identify and free inmates who have been wrongfully convicted. More than 3,300 people in the U.S. have been exonerated since 1989 of crimes for which they were imprisoned, according to the National Registry of Exonerations. Researchers looking more closely at the data also found that Black inmates are more likely to be wrongfully convicted.  MPR News host Angela Davis talks about why wrongful convictions happen, their impact on lives and how more can be prevented. Guests:  Jim Mayer is a managing attorney at the Great North Innocence Project, which works to free people wrongfully convicted of crimes and to prevent wrongful convictions in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. He also teaches courses on wrongful convictions and leads innocence clinics at law schools in Minnesota and North Dakota.  Michael Hansen is a tattoo artist and the owner of Kinship Collective Tattoo in Northfield, Minn. He spent nearly seven years in prison for a crime of which he was fully exonerated in 2011. Subscribe to the MPR News with Angela Davis podcast on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify or RSS.  Use the audio player above to listen to the full conversation.

If you've ever been intimidated by Ignatian spirituality, today's guest will put you at ease. In fact, Fr. Michael Hansen is determined to make the Ignatian exercises accessible to as many people as possible. Why? It's simple: He knows that God is at work, whether you're doing the full thirty day retreat or just a one-off reflection. Host Eric Clayton has been intrigued by Mick's work for a while. In fact, longtime listeners will remember when he came on our podcast a few years ago. He talked about the First Spiritual Exercises. Mick wrote a book by the same name. But it's also a shorthand for what Ignatius meant in the 18th Annotation of the full Spiritual Exercises. Both Mick and Ignatius want people to be able to access the riches of Ignatian spirituality, even if you don't have thirty days to sit at a retreat center. Today, Mick brings us up to date on that work. But he also introduces us to a monthlong initiative he's been steering that invites us to contemplate the many Marian devotions of Ignatus of Loyola. Mick and the Jesuits in Australia have produced a beautiful collection of short meditations that pair a Marian image—perhaps a statue that Ignatius would have seen in his childhood or a painting that hung in his room—with guided prayers to help us more intentionally journey through this month of Mary. If you've ever wanted to know what Ignatian contemplation of the Blessed Mothers looks like, this is the episode for you. Hempel wants to ensure they are a leading industry enterprise and having this goal acts as a ‘lighthouse' in difficult and more challenging times. Sustainability and how companies can contribute to their industries and their clients will determine the future success of many companies. People, financial robustness, customer-perceived uniqueness and giving back to society are the 4 pillars Michael believes you need for a successful company. Michael is passionate about understanding the realities of colleagues across the world and the differences in leadership style and other attributes to unleash the power to generate the best results. Michael has actively engaged himself to find out why there are so many challenges for women in his organization and what he can do to directly influence this. Asking questions and speaking to people directly, allows a CEO to get a true insight into the company culture, struggles and more. Hempel gives back to society in various ways including via their solutions and products and also by giving and supporting schools and by protecting biodiversity too. Attracting and retaining the best people is one of today's most difficult tasks. The talented colleagues of today are always looking for the best opportunities for them and they have more options than ever. You have to work on building an environment where they thrive or they will leave. One formula doesn't work for all employees but if you can instill the right leadership culture and environment, you can help retain good talent. A CEO has a huge impact on a company culture and this can be both negative and positive. A CEO can engage with many more employees by creating the right culture for them than they can by trying to talk to and lead every single one individually. Stay curious, always be open to learning from others, regardless of who they are.9 BEST BITS “That was a deliberate choice in that we needed to continue to grow at an accelerated pace but in an intelligent way” “We want to make sure we are among the leading 5 companies, that guide some choices” “We should listen to our leaders, but we should also listen ourselves, closer to the frontline” “It's a very mobile workforce we have today, it's a very ambitious workforce” “Culture can drive performance, but it can also drive engagement in employees” VALUABLE RESOURCES Michael's Book Recommendations: Legacy: What the All Blacks Can Teach Us about the Business of Life The Founder's Mentality: How to Overcome the Predictable Crises of Growth Like the show? In this episode of the Work in Progress podcast, we return to Austin to bring you another panel from the SXSW EDU conference earlier this month. Today, 65% of jobs require some education beyond high school. In the U.S., 62% of working-age adults do not have a degree. Together, these numbers illustrate why we have a skills gap; we need to help more Americans upskill to find sustainable employment. This demands coordination among education providers, employers and policy makers. Unfortunately, current policy proposals undermine potential solutions such as online learning which could help quickly expand education access to millions of learners. WorkingNation president Jane Oates moderated a panel on the subject: Online Backlash: Bad Policy Holds Students Back. She was joined on stage by Scott Pulsipher of Western Governors University, Michael Hansen of Cengage Group, and David Barnes of IBM. They also talked about the gap between what some educational institutions promise and what they actually deliver. You can listen to our conversation here, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's season FIVE of The Ferment Podcast, and our friend David Ruis is back to kick it off with a conversation about communal discernment of prophetic words! He and Adam talk about how and why the Lord speaks in a community, the process of discerning the timing and meaning of words, and some lessons they've learned the hard way.    David and Anita Ruis have lead, encourage, and empowered the Vineyard in Canada as the National Directors since 2014. David is a well-respected worship leader and songwriter (You're Worthy Of My Praise, Every Move I Make) and has also authored two books: The Worship God Is Seeking and The Justice God Is Seeking. Most recently, he is a contributing songwriter on Vineyard Worship's highly anticipated album “This Joy”, releasing summer 2023! As a team David and Anita are also known to be effective church planters and seasoned pastors, having established churches in Canada and the US. David has also been instrumental in seeing Vineyard communities established in Nepal and India. Much of the Ruises' focus has been in indigenous settings, working with people experiencing poverty and subsequent marginalization. They also have significant experience facilitating leadership development and on the creative side David is known for fostering originality in song-writing and the arts in various cultural settings.   A burning passion for the Ruises is both practical and theological integration of creative worship in church community, and deep life engagement with issues of poverty and social injustice. The Ruises currently reside in Kelowna, BC. In their down time they love to be creative and hang with their grandkids.     Show Notes:  The Patient Ferment of The Early Church by Alan Kreider https://amzn.to/3Y8eNdZ   Slow Kingdom Coming  by JT Meyer, Dan Wilt and Michael Hansen (2017 Mercy/Vineyard Publishing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foedee85CDk
