The Edward Honeck's Night-Life Music Awards are a prominent event in the Western New York music scene, dedicated to honoring local bands and musicians. Originally conceived by the late Ed Honeck, who was a major music supporter known as "Mr. Night Life" and associated with Night-life Magazine. The awards were brought back in 2023 to honor Ed Honeck and the Buffalo music scene by Will Schulmeister. These newly formatted awards feature multiple categories, with winners selected by a combination of committee input and a public vote. Beyond celebrating music, the event serves as a charitable fundraiser, with proceeds frequently benefiting WNY Drummers for Homeless People Inc., a non-profit organization supporting homeless shelters in the region. Will Schulmeister and Shane Davis visited the Flamingo Lounge on October 2, 2025 to talk about the Awards process and the Event itself.

Peso Pluma BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Peso Pluma has been making headlines this week as he steps into a groundbreaking role at New York Fashion Week, becoming the first Mexican ambassador named by the Council of Fashion Designers of America for NYFW Live at Rockefeller Center. The Guadalajara native joined supermodel Anok Yai and Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko as one of three ambassadors for the prestigious fashion event running from September 11th through 16th.The appointment represents a significant milestone for Mexican representation in high fashion, with the CFDA recognizing Peso Pluma's influence that extends far beyond music charts into cultural taste-making. His presence at the official kickoff cocktail at Bar SixtyFive at the Rainbow Room Wednesday evening alongside fashion heavyweights Anna Wintour, Thom Browne, Michael Kors, and Anna Sui signals his crossover appeal from regional Mexican music star to global style icon.Getty Images captured Peso Pluma attending the Off-White fashion show on September 12th with fellow artist Kenia Os at the New Design High School, cementing his active participation throughout Fashion Week rather than just ceremonial appearances. This follows his earlier front-row appearance at Thom Browne, showing his growing integration into fashion's inner circle.Meanwhile, Billboard announced major recognition for Peso Pluma at the upcoming Latin Music Awards on October 23rd. With nine nominations, he's competing for Artist of the Year and Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year Male categories, while his album Exodo earned multiple nods. His collaboration with cousin Tito Double P on Dos Dias secured nominations for Hot Latin Song of the Year Vocal Event and Regional Mexican Song of the Year. The timing is particularly potent given Peso Pluma's record-breaking achievements this year, including becoming the first artist to simultaneously lead both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global 200 Excluding US charts with different songs. His Grammy-winning album Genesis set streaming records, and he made history as the first Mexican to perform at the VMAs and the first to sing corridos at the EMAs.These developments underscore Peso Pluma's evolution from regional sensation to global cultural ambassador, with his Fashion Week appointment potentially opening doors for other Latin artists in luxury fashion spaces while his continued chart dominance solidifies his position as the undisputed king of música Mexicana.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

Interview by Kris PetersSince the Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) inception in 2018 almost 2000 individuals have been recognised with a nomination, with 1946 nominations from 2018 to 2024. Designed to provide an outlet to celebrate and reward women in the Australian music industry, AWMA has become a vital platform for recognising the vast contributions of First Nations and culturally diverse artists, musicians, technicians, photographers, journalists, leaders, artists with a disability and music practitioners from every corner of the sector. To be held on October 9 at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane, this year's ceremony features a spectacular line-up, including KATIE MILLER HEIDKE, MISSY HIGGINS, BABYSHAKES DILLON, and recently appointed AWM Chair SARAH MCLEOD.Founding Executive Producer and Program Director Vicki Gordon explains: "Our inaugural AWMA in 2018 paved the way for some of the most important change the industry has ever seen, igniting collaboration and support nationally for female and gender-diverse artists and music practitioners, First Nations and Multicultural artists and artists living in remote and regional areas. As we head into our sixth year, we are proud of the change and the shift AWMA has enabled - but there is so much more work to be done.”With the AWMA's drawing near, HEAVY sat down with Vicki to discuss the Awards, covering everything from the past, present and future of this wonderful initiative."Things are pretty intense at the moment," she smiled when we asked how preparations were going. "We're just under four weeks out from delivering the conference and the awards ceremony, and there are a lot of moving parts. It's become massive; a really, really big event. There's a lot going on with organising the artists and the programming for the awards ceremony. (Things like) the finalists, the conference programme, the speakers and the facilitators."We ask Vicki to go into more detail about the AMWAs, including what motivated her to establish the awards in 2018."I've worked in the music industry for a long time," she measured. "I've been a label manager, an artist manager. I've had the extraordinary opportunities to work with First Nations artists for the last three decades, right across this entire country, and I've been a video producer. I've worked in lots of areas, and in my time in the industry, it was always so obvious to me that women were really absent, particularly in a lot of the technical and production areas. I have been observing that for a long, long time. In the early 90s I established the Australian Women's Rock Institute, and that was way before Australian Women in Music Awards. I set that up primarily to address the status of women in the music industry, which was pretty appalling at that time."In the full interview, Vicki outlined the extensive preparations for the event, involving a large team focused on artist programming and conference logistics. As a not-for-profit charity, the event relies heavily on ongoing fundraising efforts and collaboration between a number of sectors, which she explained in greater detail.Vicki also mentioned her proactive approach to planning for the 2026 awards, highlighting the cyclical nature of organising such events. She shared her long-standing commitment to addressing the underrepresentation of women in technical and production roles within the music industry, which led her to establish the Australian Women's Rock Institute and the awards themselves. The conversation also touched on the importance of gender equality in the music sector, with Vicki emphasising the need for continued advocacy and research. She introduced the Women in Tech forum, featuring Brittany Long as a speaker, and addressed concerns about inclusivity for male attendees, affirming that their participation is welcome. The inclusion of heavy metal and associated genres in AWMA was discussed as well as Vicki's vision for the future of the awards. The discussion included details about ticketing for the awards and conference, as well as highlights of the event, such as the unique black carpet event and the awards ceremony featuring notable performers and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Jo Jo Siwa BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.JoJo Siwa's whirlwind summer has kept her squarely in the celebrity spotlight. After igniting headlines when she entered the Celebrity Big Brother house in April, JoJo instantly landed at the center of British reality TV pop culture. Her appearance sparked a friendship with Love Island alum Chris Hughes that quickly blossomed into romance. Just hours after leaving the house, JoJo ended her prior relationship with Kath Ebbs, clarifying in interviews that her split wasn't about Chris even though fans quickly read between the lines. JoJo and Chris publicly confirmed their relationship within weeks and their chemistry was clocked by viewers and media alike. Chris has since admitted that he is “besotted” and wants to marry her, while JoJo told Heat magazine she is “craving children” and even has the name Silver Siwa picked out. She's been refreshingly candid about wanting babies soon and sees starting a family as a clear part of her future.Pregnancy rumors have been swirling faster than her trademark ponytail after a viral TikTok showed Chris affectionately rubbing JoJo's belly. JoJo decided to playfully address the speculation, posting a Two Truths and a Lie video and including “I'm pregnant” as one of the options, effectively shutting down the story with a wink according to People. JoJo has long been open about wanting to be a mom, dating back to her pre-teen years, but for now the internet had to settle for a new single promoted within the video. As for career moves, buzz is building around a rumored reality show featuring JoJo and Chris. Multiple outlets including PA Media and Echo Live report that talks are underway, with Chris confirming “lots of discussions” have happened though nothing official has been announced. He said that the pair would “be very happy and open to filming,” suggesting an announcement could be imminent and fans—dubbed "CoJo"—are eagerly awaiting the next chapter. The pair have been attracting crowds at public events like National Racehorse Week, with the “CoJo” group name taking root among supporters.JoJo's public appearances are also making noise: her red carpet moments at the iHeartRadio Music Awards drew major attention on social media, with TikTok and Instagram lighting up with posts documenting her looks and interactions. She's become a fixture on 2025's award show circuit and her posts with Kath Ebbs at past events like GLAAD and Hadestown's premiere remain fan favorites, even as her relationship status shifted.Across TikTok, JoJo continues to trend with fans referencing her new business ventures and viral moments, while tongue-in-cheek posts about her “prime” and media appearances rack up hundreds of thousands of likes and views. Her every move, from family plans to career ambitions and social escapades, dominate headlines—proof that JoJo Siwa's star power is only growing stronger, and her story remains one of the most talked-about in entertainment right now.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOta

New Zealand music's big night out took place this week. The Aotearoa Music Awards celebrated its 60th year, with our biggest musical stars glitzed and glammed for the red carpet. Taking out two awards this year —Best Solo Artist and the highly coveted Album of the Year— was Fazerdaze, also known as Amelia Murray. It's her first time winning an Aotearoa Music Award, and she told Francesca Rudkin when her name was called, she felt weirdly calm. “It feels kind of like it's been a really long time coming,” Murray says. “I've been nominated quite a few times before and it was kind of, it was nice to finally take home a trophy.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The stars of New Zealand music are sweeping up the red carpet right now for the 60th annual Aotearoa Music Awards. The celebration of New Zealand's best talent follows Lorde's surprise pop-up concert from a toilet cubicle at the Auckland central YMCA last night. Tahi presenter So'omalo Iteni Schwalger spoke to Lisa Owen.
Christchurch-based musician Amelia Murray, better known as Fazerdaze, was named Best Solo Artist and also took out the coveted Album of the Year award for her third release, Soft Power. Murray spoke to Paddy Gower.
The breadth and depth of the New Zealand music industry will be on show on Thursday night at the Aotearoa Music Awards. Recorded Music NZ Head of Legal & Business Affairs Christy Whelan spoke to Corin Dann.
One of the most significant country music figures to emerge from New Zealand, Tami Neilson continues to grow on the world stage. Later this year she'll be touring around the US with Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan, as well as a string of European dates – but unlike some other stars, she's not leaving New Zealand out. Neilson is returning to our stages this October for her ‘Neon Cowgirl' tour – performing five shows across the country. She'll be performing songs from her new album of the same name, which releases in July. Although it's common for artists to labour over their work, often taking years to complete and release albums, Neilson told Mike Hosking that comparatively, she works quite quickly. “From the time I'm kind of laying down the music to when it comes out, it's usually a year,” she said. “I usually write my albums and then track them within a week, so most of my albums are live off the floor.” The recordings listeners hear are full takes performed live by Neilson and her band, which she says adds a realness to the songs. “I think in this age of, you know, impending AI, the more we can lean into our humanity, you hope that comes through in the music and connects with other human hearts.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
