Dennis is joined via Zoom from Puerta Vallarta, Mexico by writer-director-producer Robert Schrock to talk about Naked Boys Singing, the hit musical review he conceived, directed and co-wrote that is celebrating it's 25th anniversary this year. Robert talks about how he got the original idea, what it was like to cast the show, how soon it would get the cast naked during the rehearsal process and why it was important to feature songs that dealt with serious topics like AIDS and romantic longing in addition to the light-hearted ditties. He also talks about how the show nearly got shut down in Provincetown, Minneapolis and Atlanta and actually did get shut down in Puerto Rico. He also recalls his own naked stint onstage, performing in the New York sensation The Dirtiest Show In Town.  Other topics include: the pros and cons of bachelorette party audiences, moving to Mexico after Trump got elected, the onstage beam that had to be incorporated into every show at the Celebration Theater, meeting the original Stonewall protestor Christina Hayworth, taking tap class from Tommy Tune and the Australian Prince Albert that nearly stole the whole show.

He's acted on Broadway, off-Broadway, in independent films and on numerous TV network shows including Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family and Criminal Minds.  In his late 30s he became a mature male escort and over the last several years has attracted a large international fan base through his blog of erotic photographs celebrating nudity and sexuality. Damn Shame is David Pevsner's incredible story and is a passionate and poignant look at one man's journey from a thin, shy boy ashamed of his body and sexuality to a defiant, fearless everyman exploring his erotic desires, everything from leather and S&M to nude/erotic/hardcore modelling. Along the way, he fights back against society's demonization of gay sex, body shaming and ageism while pursuing his own very personal definition of success and seeking love, validation and self-esteem. Damn Shame gives a loud and powerful voice to a generation of mature men who have been conditioned to believe from society (and especially younger members of the gay community) that they are sexually irrelevant, old and undesirable. David Pevsner is an LA-based actor and writer, with a little modeling on the side. His film appearances include Scrooge and Marley (as Ebenezer Scrooge), Spa Night, Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean, Role/Play, and Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption. His guest starring roles on television include Silicon Valley, NCIS, I'm Dying Up Here, Modern Family, Grey's Anatomy, Liz and Dick, Law and Order LA, and he starred in the popular web series Old Dogs and New Tricks. As a songwriter, his work has been featured in the global hit show Naked Boys Singing!

Dennis visits the Laurel Canyon home of Christopher Graham, who along with Tod Macofsky, make up the comedic lounge duo Mack and Poppy. Tod and Christopher share Mack and Poppy's origin story, how Mack & Poppy came close to mega-stardom and blew it, when they knew it was going to work, their dream Mack and Poppy gig, the freedom that comes with embodying these campy characters and their new show "Till Death Do Us Part." They also talk about being in the L.A. Gay Mens Chorus, performing with stars like Lily Tomlin, Angela Lansbury, Coco Peru and Leann Rimes. Christopher recalls growing up in the south and lip-syncing to Reba McEntire's "Fancy" in Birmingham, Alabama then hitting the road as a chorus boy in shows like 42nd Street and My Fair Lady. Tod talks about performing with a touring troupe inspired by the "It Gets Better" movement, being one of the original cast members of the long-running stage hit Naked Boys Singing and working as FAYE DUNAWAY'S PERSONAL ASSISTANT (!!!) for a few days back in the 90's. Other topics include: first concerts, blocking Diana Ross  in at Gelson's, Helen Reddy's super-twisted song "Angie Baby," running into Keanu Reeves and Barbara Eden (not together), the joy of Troll 2, memorizing The Joy Luck Club and bonding with the Twin Peaks actress who used to live in Christopher's house. http://www.mackandpoppy.com/

The Boyz of OUTSpoken talk to Bruce Vilanch and Jeffery Johns creator of “Waiting in the Wings”OUTSpoken Jeffrey A Johns started singing and dancing ever since he was old enough to walk and talk. In fact, he was performing in his church choir before he even knew how to read! At a young age he performed in local theatre and the oldest running Minstrel Show in the world. I guess it’s no surprise that Jeffrey still loves the music of Vaudeville. When he wasn’t on stage, Jeffrey was a competitive swimmer and a Boy Scout. To many people’s surprise, this song and dance guy eventually earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school Jeffrey went off to college and continued studying theatre, but decided he also wanted to focus on children’s entertainment. He graduated from Manhattanville College with a degree in Elementary Education and Performance. Following college, Jeffrey moved to California where he was performing at Disneyland, with regional theater companies, on national/international tours, sweeping movie theatre floors, and living off peanut butter and jelly while enjoying the life of an actor. Eventually he headed to Las Vegas performing with the cast of Naked Boys Singing and Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding at the Planet Hollywood. With his return to California, Jeffrey continued to performing in theatre, but also started working in film and television. He appeared several times on America’s Got Talent and a variety of television series, web-series, and feature films. He wrote a children’s book entitled, “Have You Ever Tried To Stop The Rain?” and the feature film, Waiting In The Wings: The Musical.   Synopsis: Waiting In The Wings: The Musical is a feature film where two entertainers, destined for the big time, are mismatched in a casting office from two very different online contests. Tony, a stripper from New York, is cast in an Off-Broadway musical and needs to trade in his tear-away trunks for tap shoes and tights. Anthony, a naive musical theatre enthusiast from Montana, needs to decide if he can strip all the way down just to stay in town. Hilarity ensues as they realize that “to make it” they’re gonna have to learn some new tricks. Shirley Jones, Sally Struthers, and Lee Meriwether round out this heartwarming homage to Broadway with some delightful cameos. He has co-authored twenty-three Academy Award spectacles, winning two writing Emmys in the process (almost as good a nominee/win ratio as Meryl Streep’s). He has also been nominated for seven other Emmys — one of them was for his participation on the celebrity panel of HOLLYWOOD SQUARES, where he resided for six years just to the left of Whoopi on your screen. For two years, he starred on Broadway and the road as Edna Turblad, Baltimore’s most glamorous plus-sized tootsie, in the musical HAIRSPRAY. His one-man show, ALMOST FAMOUS – he had that title first, dammit – was a big hit a few years before that. He is so well-known as a provider of comic material for other performers that Harvey Weinstein made a documentary about it (during the Miramax years). GET BRUCE features comic deconstructions by such Vilanch collaborators as Bette Midler, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and a roster of others from Michael Douglas (soon to be seen as Liberace!) to Nathan Lane to Paul Reiser to Lily Tomlin to Shirley MacLaine. In addition to the Oscars, he has co-written many Tonys, Emmys, Grammys, Peoples Choice, American Comedy Awards, TV Land Awards, SAG Awards, and a ton of other pageants, roasts, tributes and various trumped-up reasons for people to enjoy t&a on a red carpet. Many of his collaborators have gone to Broadway with his material, including Diana Ross, Michael Feinstein and Michael Buble’ and the late Peter Allen, whose stage shows he wrote and subsequently re-wrote for Hugh Jackman when he played Peter in THE BOY FROM OZ. He has co-authored multiple dozens of variety television shows and actually put words in the mouth of Cher. People recognize him a lot – some think he’s Michael Moore, but no – from his appearances on MILLIONAIRE MATCHMAKER, CELEBRITY FIT CLUB (where he lost 21 lbs, which he subsequently found), THE WORLD’S DUMBEST CRIMINALS, THE 100 MOST SHOCKING MOMENTS IN SHOW BUSINESS, LIVE WITH REGIS & ELLY (where he shaved his beard to play Edna), JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, THE VIEW, THE JOY BEHAR SHOW, MATCH GAME (a special version hosted by Ricki Lake) and a raft of others. He’s also a lyricist, scoring gold and platinum records for disco songs he wrote for Eartha Kitt (WHERE IS MY MAN?) and Village People. Pre-HAIRSPRAY, geeks of all ages will remember him as Weird Wendon, the evil emperor with a big head but no body, in ICE PIRATES, or in THE MORNING AFTER (with Jane Fonda). Musical theatre geeks will remember him as the co-author of the Broadway misfire called PLATINUM, which was revived off-Broadway last season for reasons which continue to mystify Bruce.

So much news. So much to discuss. Brian Beacock surprised Steven and Kenny and stopped by to chat about his web series “Acting Dead” - find it at www.actingdead.com. Go check it out! Kenny and Brian reminisced about “Naked Boys Singing,” Jewish holidays, and FUBAR. If only Neil Patrick Harris could hear this podcast, he’d know how Kenny loves him. Watch out, David. Oh, Steven told about how he looked fabulous in blue velvet, and then terrible with food poisoning.
