South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol announced his nominee for unification minister last week, but his pick for the role overseeing inter-Korean exchanges — the “new right” professor Kim Yung-ho — has proven controversial for his past comments calling for regime change and repeatedly predicting North Korea's collapse. NK News correspondent Shreyas Reddy discusses the nomination and what it means for the ministry, as well as the DPRK's new anti-U.S. propaganda posters, YouTube shutting down North Korean channels and more. Then, former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton joins the podcast for an exclusive interview to discuss his views on how to create a unified Korean Peninsula and counter DPRK nuclear threats, and why he believes regime change is not necessary to achieve these goals. He also talks about why he believes China should do more to reign in Pyongyang and promote peace, how a withdrawal of U.S. troops would impact negotiations on North Korean WMDs and more. John Bolton has played a key role in shaping Washington's policy toward North Korea over the course of more than two decades, including leading efforts to abandon the Agreed Framework. He served as former President Donald Trump's national security advisor from April 2018 to Sept. 2019, a period that covered all three of Trump's meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Before that Bolton served as under secretary of state for arms control and international security affairs and as U.S. ambassador to the U.N. under George W. Bush. About the podcast: The North Korea News Podcast is a weekly podcast hosted by Jacco Zwetsloot (@JaccoZed) exclusively for NK News, covering all things DPRK — from news to extended interviews with leading experts and analysts in the field, along with insight from our very own journalists.

On a “Baker's Dozen” Episode of LegalAF (#LAF), MeidasTouch's Sunday law and politics podcast, hosts MT founder and civil rights lawyer, Ben Meiselas and national trial lawyer and strategist, Michael Popok, first explore the House Judiciary's decision to open an investigation into the Former's misuse of subpoena power against the media, Apple, and Democratic leaders. Next up, the Legal AF analysts drill down on 3 new SCOTUS decisions: (1) 9-0, affecting LGBTQ+ foster parent rights, (2) 8-1, addressing child slavery lawsuits against Nestlé under the Alien Tort Statute of 1789 (ATS); and (3) a 7-2 decision crafted by Justice Breyer confirming the constitutionality of Obamacare once and for all. Speaking of Breyer, Ben and Michael give their views on the growing #RetireBreyer movement seeking to have him step down before the midterms to given Biden a guaranteed SCOTUS pick. Walrus-alert: Ben and Popok discuss the DOJ's decision to end both the criminal and civil cases against former National Security Advisor John Bolton for publishing a memoir which the Former did not like. Easter egg alert: Popok slips in a Hamilton: The Musical reference. Rounding out the podcast, the Analysis Friends discuss Biden's decision to protect transgender and gay students under Title IX from discrimination and retaliation in higher education in response to 20 states attempting to ban transgender students from competing in sport. And no #LAF pod would be complete without Ben and Popok discussing some gun-toting political candidate, in this case the white St. Louis Republican attorneys who brandished guns and AR-15s when peaceful #BLM protestors marched past their wealthy enclave, and the husband's decision to now run for the US Senate. Finally, and for added fun, Ben, perhaps listening too intently to a “supersonic dog siren,” forgets momentarily just which legal podcast he is actually hosting, prompting Popok to ask if Ben's law partner (and host of another legal podcast) is renting space in Ben's head. This week we examine claims against the accuracy of former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton's new book, and the ongoing struggle communities are facing in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic. What are the real "nightmare scenarios" that could occur this November with the U.S. election? We've had a number of issues on our mind recently, ranging from why we haven't made Election Day a federal holiday, to the ongoing debate over mail-in voting in 2020, with rising concerns about the second-wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, many of us stepped outside over the weekend to see that there was a fine coating of Sahara dust around our homes, but that's not all that was red in recent days: Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton's new book has drawn criticism from the left and the right for what many consider to be inaccuracies it may portray. Then shifting gears, we turn our attention to the ongoing struggle many communities face in light of the COVID-19 threat, with states like Texas and California closing many businesses that had only recently managed to reopen. We are a long way from being free of the problems presented by COVID-19, and now is more important than any time to be maintaining safe and healthy practices. Finally, with many of the positive social changes that are being fought for in our communities right now, are there moments where we should recognize where efforts pushing for change might go "too far"? We hear from our friends in the community known as the "Intellectual Dark Web" and get their take on these, and other issues this week on Middle Theory. Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates says that America overuses (and often MIS-uses) the military to achieve its strategic goals while neglecting other (and often better) non-military options. He discusses how Congress and the last 5 Presidents have allowed many of those non-military instruments of power to wither and die in the three decades after the Cold War. He suggests that the United States needs to be "less monastic and more Madison Avenue" in how we talk about the good we do around the world and that Presidents need to make an effort to convince the the American people to take a broader, more longterm view of what is in the US national interest. He criticizes President Trump’s threat to use regular military forces to squelch Black Lives Matter protests and explains that a heavy-handed approach to peaceful protesters may be a gift to authoritarian regimes around the world. Plus Robert Gates says it may be time for the US to focus on more realistic goals with North Korea, he elaborates on the sometimes mischievous nature of the National Security Council, and he weighs in on whether he believes President Trump's claims that his former National Security Advisor John Bolton is a "traitor" and "liar." The McLaughlin Group -- June 19th, 2020 guest panelist this week is Kelsey Bolar, Independent Women's Forum Senior Policy Analyst Issue one: Police Reform President Trump this week issued an executive order to promote police reform. Highlights include a new federal database recording complaints against police officers, the promotion of social worker involvement in some police interactions, and prioritizing grants for deescalation training. Issue two: 6 to 3 The Supreme Court this week ruled that Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act prevents employment discrimination on the basis of a worker's transgender or homosexual identity. In another decision, SCOTUS also blocked the Trump administration from immediately ending DACA. Issue three: Galwan Valley Massacre Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed along a contested border region this week. While both sides blamed each other for the melee, each also committed to deescalating tensions. Still, the battle reflects China's increasingly aggressive effort to seize contested territory around the world. On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, Paul Howard, an Atlanta prosecutor, all but tried his case against the police officer in the Rayshard Brooks case on TV. It was shocking that such a spectacle even occurred. This flies in the face of justice and due process; no citizen should ever be denied these fundamental rights. Then, just two weeks ago this same prosecutor charged six cops (five of which are African American) with using a taser as a deadly weapon. This case is clearly not about race and the prosecutor has no basis for such charges - especially before the final report of the shooting from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Later, former National Security Advisor John Bolton is positioning himself as a super patriot for being disloyal to the country in name of selling books. Selling his notes and insight of private discussions with the President is just as bad as what James Comey did in this leak to the New York Times. Learn more about your ad choices. President Trump's former National Security Advisor John Bolton is a pretty interesting figure in the whole impeachment inquiry, right? On the one hand, he's a pretty high-level official who is said to have characterized the whole Ukraine affair as a "drug deal." On the other hand, he's so far refused to testify at the same time as he's making it clear he's got lots of relevant information. On the other other hand, And: Carrie Saxon Perry was the mayor of Hartford from 1987 to 1993, and she was the first black woman elected mayor of any major New England city. She died almost a year ago, "under a cloak of silence and no public notice." And finally: After their storied careers at UConn, Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird went on to play in the WNBA and overseas. The new season of ESPN's 30 for 30 Podcasts tells the story of their time in Russia playing for an owner with ties to the Russian mob and the KGB.Support the show: http://www.wnpr.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
