What can a lifetime spent protecting some of the world's most extraordinary places teach us about how to live?In part two of my conversation with Lou Sanson, we travel from Antarctica to the highest levels of New Zealand's conservation system — and into the lessons Lou gathered through a life of ambition, responsibility and service.Lou describes Antarctica as New Zealand's landscape “on steroids”: a place so still you can hear your ears ringing and see for hundreds of kilometres. Everyone who works in the Insurance Industry knows it is a great business. The great cliché is that people fall into the sector via all sorts of roundabout routes and then they stay. They rarely pick the industry as a first choice. But once in there are many amazing benefits that take new entrants by surprise. In the UK the vibrant national and regional professional communities facilitated by a great institutions such as the CII, BIBA, Airmic and other bodies are obvious examples. But the connectivity goes way beyond our trade bodies. In places like the London Market there is an incredibly diverse and vibrant array of sporting and cultural activities available to all. From Sailing to Bridge to Art, if you can imagine it, there is probably an Insurance-related Club or Society devoted to it. There is even a London Orchestra with a direct connection to the sector that I only discovered by relative chance after at least 15 years of complete ignorance. But did you know there is another group that all insurance practitioners in the UK and Ireland also belong to? We are all potential beneficiaries of the Insurance Charity. This is a Charity that is 124 years old and was set up to look after any current or former insurance practitioners, and their families, in their hour of need. This week is the Annual Awareness week for the charity and so today's guest is its CEO Helen Sanson. In this short discussion Helen guides me around the Insurance Charity, everything it does currently and everything she plans to do with it in the future. It's a fascinating chat. You may also be relieved to hear that although donations are welcome, the charity is actually well funded. What it really needs from you is your attention, awareness and advocacy. È lutto nel mondo della scuola e dell'alpinismo maladensi. Carlo Sanson, 58 anni, si è spento a seguito di un'improvvisa malattia che, nel giro di pochi giorni, non gli ha lasciato scampo. Lascia la moglie Bruna e i due figli Andrea e Anna. Ieri sera alle 20 presso il Duomo di Malo una commossa veglia meditativa, ne ha ricordato l'umanità e l'amore per la vita.

Du 14 au 19 avril, sur les bords de l'Auron, nous fêterons la 50ème édition d'un festival qui semble n'avoir pas pris une ride : le Printemps de Bourges Crédit Mutuel. Né de l'esprit visionnaire de Daniel Colling, qui cherche comment montrer les nouveaux talents de la chanson, Bernard Lavilliers, Catherine Ribeiro, Jacques Higelin… Daniel parvient à convaincre Charles Trenet de rejoindre la capitale du Cher pour la première édition du festival en 1977. Après ça, tout le monde va se presser à Bourges : Serge Gainsbourg, Claude Nougaro, The Stranglers, Daniel Balavoine, Nina Simone. Le Printemps de Bourges devient vite un modèle et participe à structurer et professionnaliser le secteur des musiques actuelles qui reposait encore beaucoup sur des café concerts. Mais là où Bourges marque sa différence, c'est en ayant su rester branché sur la découverte et l'émergence, bien sûr à travers l'incroyable dispositif des Inouïs qui repose sur un fin maillage territorial de la francophonie. Mais aussi en célébrant des répertoires à travers des créations : Jeanne Added qui reprend Prince, Yan Wagner Portishead, Léonie Pernet Ziggy Stardust de David Bowie, Messages Personnels, l'hommage à Françoise Hardy en 2024. L'attachement au Printemps est si fort qu'il semble impensable de rater la moindre édition, le festival a eu lieu pour ses Inouïs en septembre 2020, en juin 2021 aussi, où nous étions assis sous la grande tente du W. Malgré quelques retours à l'hôtel au milieu de la nuit sous des trombes d'eau, malgré les courtes nuits, les salles du 22 sont toujours pleines de gens aux yeux mi-clos mais aux oreilles grandes ouvertes dès midi pour applaudir les Inouïs. Mon Printemps à moi c'est la première rock and beat party en 2009 avec Birdy Nam Nam, Yuksek et l'électrique duo allemand Digitalism, Charlotte Gainsbourg au Palain d'Auron rebaptisé Palais Daniel Colling, Hervé au 22 qui jouait pour les Inouïs comme si c'était son stade de France, le producteur de Zaho de Sagazan qui faisait des bons en observant les pros tomber sous le charme de la symphonie des éclairs, une soirée Catherine Ringer, Juliette Armanet, Véronique Sanson le soir des 70 ans de la chanteuse d'Amoureuse, ma première interview de Clara Luciani, l'ambiance familiale et joyeuse de la première venue d'Aya Nakamura un dimanche, François Hollande qui déambule à quelques jours de son élection à l'Élysée, ou l'année dernière tout le 22 qui pleure en découvrant Pierre & la Rose. Vous n'êtes pas prêts parce qu'en 27 on fêtera les 50 ans du Printemps, en 28, Bourges sera capitale européenne de la culture, et aujourd'hui sur Tsugi Radio, 3 invités, Thibaut, ancien Inouï en piano-voix avec son nouveau single, le directeur du festival Boris Vedel, et aussi la productrice et compositrice DeLaurentis qui rendra cette année hommage aux pionnières de la musique électronique.

A special musical tribute from a New Zealand entertainer filled an auditorium in Palmerston North today as mourners gathered to farewell the three children killed in a fire at their home in the Manawatu town of Sanson. 7-year-old August, 5-year-old Hugo, and 1-year-old Goldie Field died in the blaze earlier this month. Their father, Dean Field, was also killed in what's being treated in a murder-suicide, but the children's funeral today was about remembering three bright young lives tragically cut short. Jimmy Ellingham reports.
