Dr Rob Conenello has always had the mantra, ‘Do Great Things', and after overcoming Stage 4 Throat Cancer, where he was only given a 20% survival rate, he chose not to let statistics get in the way of his ambitions to live a full life with his young family and to pursue his podiatry career and goals. He has gone on to ‘Do Great Things' himself and encourages others to do the same. Dr Rob Conenello is a sports podiatrist and owner of Orangetown Podiatry, New York. He is the Global Clinical Advisor at Special Olympics International and is a Past President of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. He is also an Honorary Surgeon for the New York Police Department. In this episode, we discuss: What he has learnt from other podiatrists (Doug Ritchie, Richard Blake, Ivan Bristow, Simon Bartold, Mike Donato, and others). Starting as a volunteer and working his way through the state, national and internal levels of sports medicine. Getting nervous before speaking (even on podcasts). Orthotics is not sports podiatry. Learning from retailers (shoe stores), physical therapists, and athletic events. You can't do everything in podiatry, so instead, focus on what brings you joy and happiness. It's okay to say NO to certain things; one of the first things he said NO to was surgery. Helping athletes reach their goals. There's Riches in Niches. Aim to be the best, and don't set your goal to be average. DO GREAT THINGS. Associating with positive podiatrists and avoiding time with negative ones. Building Relationships = Communication & Trust. Book by Arnold Schwarzenegger - BE USEFUL “There should be a war on average.” - Dr Rob Conenello.  If you have any questions about this episode, you can contact me at tyson@podiatrylegends.com Do You Think Differently to Other Podiatrists?  If you do, I want to let you know you're not alone, and most of my coaching clients feel the same way, which is why they chose to work with me over a larger cookie-cutter coaching company. My coaching clients do not have big egos; they are quiet achievers and like to fly under the radar, but they do want to evolve their podiatry businesses into something special, something they can be proud of and say, “This is mine”. If this sounds like you, we should talk. After we talk, I guarantee you will have more clarity on what is best for you and your business.  “I was a frustrated business owner for five years until I started working with Tyson. He helped me transform my business in a matter of months, resulting in an instant increase in revenue and the ability to attract and retain top quality podiatrists. Over the past three and a half years, working with Tyson has changed my life drastically. I was able to take time off to start a family, triple my business revenue, and finally achieve work-life balance. I highly recommend Tyson to anyone who is looking for a business coach.”  – Jessica Haydock (Sole Focus Podiatry, Toowoomba) YouTube Have you checked out my YouTube Channel – TYSON E FRANKLIN?

Dean's Chat host, Dr. Jeffrey Jensen, is joined by Dr. Richard Blake, a leader in podiatric sports medicine, biomechanics and a past president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. The discussion includes the “Blake Inverted Casting Technique”, and his new textbook – a 3 book set titled, “Practical Biomechanics”. We discussed his YouTube Channel drblakelakehealingsole which has 12,000 subscribers and many videos with 200,000-500,000 views. A wonderful discussion with a legendary podiatrist! Dr. Blake shares his journey into the field of podiatric medicine and how he discovered his passion for treating athletes. With a wealth of experience and expertise, he discusses his work in biomechanics and his role as past president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. This insightful conversation provides valuable insights into the world of podiatric medicine and its intersection with sports. Dr. Blake emphasizes the significance of having a solid understanding of anatomy to truly grasp biomechanical concepts. He reflects on his own education, where he had to memorize the layers of the feet, ankle, and knee. If he didn't have the opportunity to dissect and explore, he had to rely on two-dimensional pictures. However, he expresses envy for current students who have access to three-dimensional images from MRIs, which greatly facilitates learning anatomy in a more comprehensive manner. He also mentions the availability of educational apps that aid in the study of anatomy, a resource he did not have during his own education. Dr. Blake also stresses that surgery is essentially applied anatomy. He explains that a deep understanding of the anatomy of the foot and how it functions is essential for successful surgeries. He firmly believes that biomechanics is rooted in anatomy, and without a solid grasp of anatomy, it becomes challenging to fully comprehend biomechanical concepts. Biomechanics holds particular importance in the realm of sports medicine. This episode highlights the role of biomechanics in helping athletes train for events and prevent injuries. Dr. Jensen and Dr. Blake mention the presence of a sports podiatry area equipped with technology such as a tech scan, treadmill, and cameras. Dr. Blake treated numerous runners and found it rewarding to keep them on their feet and assist them in training for their desired events. This suggests that understanding biomechanics is crucial in helping athletes optimize their performance and prevent injuries. Join us for a great discussion on individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and the wonderful support and leadership Dr. David Jenkins and Midwestern University's President, Dr. Kathleen Goeppinger, have provided to the community. This episode emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary curriculum that includes various healthcare professions, such as podiatry, speech therapy, and pharmacology, to develop effective communication skills for working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. They mention that Midwestern University is an ideal venue for such a curriculum due to its diverse range of healthcare programs. They discuss an interdisciplinary event where students from various healthcare programs come together to share their knowledge and expertise. Physical therapy students, for example, participate and contribute their knowledge and skills related to fitness and physical therapy. This collaboration allows students from different programs to learn from each other and contribute their unique perspectives. Dental students also participate in the event by providing dental checkups, showcasing the importance of oral health in overall healthcare. This demonstrates how different healthcare programs can come together to address various aspects of patient care. Overall, the podcast emphasizes the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare. By bringing together students from different programs, the event allows for the sharing of knowledge and the development of a comprehensive approach to patient care. This interdisciplinary nature is seen as beneficial for both the students involved and the patients they serve. Dr Richard Blake shares the inspirational story behind the Inverted Orthotic Technique and the obstacles he had to overcome to get his unique orthotic design ideas in front of the general podiatry population.  At the time, The Root Theory was the accepted way of making an orthotic. Still, Dr Blake proved that you could invert an orthotic way past 3 degrees inverted to get the results you want, and what you may not know, Merton Root was his biggest advocate of this new paradigm shift.  Dr Richard Blake has been a podiatrist for over 40 years, focusing on sports medicine and biomechanics. He is a Clinical Instructor at the California School of Podiatric Medicine and the author of Inverted Orthotic Technique and Secrets to Keep Moving. He has also been the past President American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine.  We also discuss:  The first successful inverted orthotics at 24 degrees use to eliminate knee pain. Why it's okay to break the rules. The help, support and guidance he received from Merton Root Why he stepped away from the speaking circuit for 14-years His thoughts on podiatrists that don’t like orthotics, the barefoot movement and footwear.  Final Tip Find what you like to do and follow that. Yes, initially, you have to do everything because you have bills to pay, but if you can eventually focus on what you love doing, it will bring you the most joy each day.  If you have any questions about this episode, please contact me at tf@tysonfranklin.com.  Youtube If you're interested in watching the UNCUT video of this particular episode, you can visit my YOUTUBE Channel, Tyson Franklin and please SUBSCRIBE, so you're informed whenever a new video is released.  Competitive Advantage If you're looking for a Competitive Advantage over other podiatrists in your area, please visit my EVENTS PAGE, and consider joining my next group coaching program, the 12-Week Podiatry Business Reboot or join the Podiatry Business Owners Club on Facebook.
