Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Scott Eyman, Golden Age of Hollywood Celebrity Biographer About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Scott Eyman, is one of America's most respected and prodigious authors, whose books are beloved by film buffs, because he  specializes in the golden age of Hollywood.   He's written 16 highly acclaimed books, including definitive biographies of Mary Pickford, Cary Grant, John Ford, Ernst Lubitsch, Louis B. Mayer, Cecil B. DeMille, and John Wayne.  He co-wrote THREE books with screen legend Robert Wagner, including his deeply moving memoir, “Pieces of My Heart: A Life”.  And one of my personal favourites, is “Hank and Jim: The Fifty-Year Friendship of Henry Fonda and James Stewart”.   His very first book, now in its 7th edition, entitled, “Flashback: A Brief History of Film”, co-authored with Louis Giannetti, became an instant classic, and is required reading at film schools everywhere.   His latest book is entitled, “20th Century-Fox: Darryl F. Zanuck and the Creation of the Modern Film Studio”.  He was a Pullitzer Prize finalist and has won multiple awards including the Richard Wall Memorial Book Award for his book about Cecil B. DeMille, and the National Board of Review William K. Everson Award for Film History, for his prolific body of work.   He lectures extensively at museums and film festivals around the world.  And he's provided commentaries on DVDs of many classic movies.  You've seen him on Turner Classic Movies, and he's written for the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, and practically every film magazine in existence.  And somehow, he also has time to be an adjunct professor of film history at the University of Miami.  For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/https://www.scotteyman.com/ https://mobile.twitter.com/scotteyman1https://www.facebook.com/ScottEyman1 #ScottEyman   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Last episode I said that I was hoping we'd have an actual winner to declare. It seems we have one, but it still doesn't feel like closure.  Donald Trump hasn't conceded the 2020 election, even after the major media outlets declared Joe Biden the winner. What do the KIRO Radio hosts think?  Dori Monson laid out the pathway Trump still has, but he acknowledged it's a long shot.  Dave Ross got Pullitzer Prize winning journalist David Farenthold to weigh in on the same question.  Gee Scott compared the whole situation to another infamous moment of litigation (don't want to give it away).  John Curley and Tom Tangney contrasted Trump's situation with Al Gore's in 2000.  Finally, we venture over to KTTH to see if those hosts think Trump's situation is any less dire than the KIRO hosts made it out to be.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Raymond Bisha introduces a new release of orchestral music by American composer Christopher Rouse, who died in September 2019. It’s a fitting tribute to one who led the revitalisation of contemporary orchestral music with works that ranged from intensely active to wonderfully lyrical. As both a Pullitzer Prize and GRAMMY Award winner, his personal mission “to be of use: to sing you a song, to paint you a picture, to tell you a story” has resonated with audiences all over the world. The engaging programme on this release is brilliantly performed by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and conductor Giancarlo Guerrero. Rouse’s Concerto for Orchestra is a ‘hyper-concerto’ that gives each player a chance to shine, while the mournful intimacy and passion of Supplica unfolds somewhat like the slow movement of a Bruckner or Mahler symphony. His Fifth Symphony blurs the lines between tradition and modernity and was described as “brilliant, exciting and at times hauntingly beautiful” by The Dallas Morning News.

Nick Duncalf follows Tina Landau and Tarell Alvin McCraney of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company as they rehearse their revolutionary new stage show, Ms Blakk for President. In Chicago, Illinois, two of the ensemble’s key creatives, Tina Landau and Tarell Alvin McCraney, are bringing a theatrically daring and politically charged new show to life. Ms Blakk for President tells the extraordinary true story of an African-American drag queen who ran for president of the United States in 1992, at the height of the Aids crisis. Tarell is a critically acclaimed playwright who won an Oscar for his screenplay for the film Moonlight, based on his own childhood growing up in Miami, Florida. Not only has this show been created from scratch at breakneck speed, but Tarell is playing the lead role, after a 15-year absence from the stage. Inspired and supported by the company’s history and success, Tarell, Tina, and Steppenwolf’s artistic director, Anna D. Shapiro, are determined that this cultural institution must be theatrically and politically revolutionary in order to not just survive, but thrive in the 21st century. Founded 45 years ago in a leafy suburb of Chicago, the Steppenwolf Theatre Company has forged a reputation as one of the world’s foremost producers of electrifying, actor-led theatre, from their breakthrough productions of Balm in Gilead and Sam Shepard’s True West, to the Pullitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County, written by one of their own ensemble members, actor-turned-playwright Tracy Letts. The ensemble, expanding over the years to include 50 members, has won Tonys, Emmys, Pullitzers and multiple Oscar nominations, and includes John Malkovich, Laurie Metcalf, Gary Sinise, Joan Allen, Bruce Norris, and many more.

Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Well good morning, good afternoon and good evening, wherever you are in the world, hello and welcome to the Sunday 22nd July edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport.   Got a few new supporters to say hi to at the end of the show, and a massive gathering of EV drivers this weekend, I’ll fill you in after the news.   VW GROUP CANADA FORMS ‘ELECTRIFY CANADA' TO INSTALL ULTRA-FAST ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGERS "Volkswagen Group Canada announced the formation of Electrify Canada, a new company that will build an ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) direct current (DC) charging network across Canada. The EV chargers will be operational by the second quarter of 2019." according to Eric Waltz at Future Car: "Electrify Canada is an extension of Volkswagen's Electrify America, created as catalyst to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in retribution for the 2015 ‘dieselgate scandal' where VW admitted it tampered with diesel vehicle software in order to bypass stringent emissions requirements. Earlier this year, Electrify America announced plans to construct the largest EV charging network in the U.S., eventually exceeding the size of Telsa's planned Supercharger network. The initial plan includes the installation of 32 EV charging stations near major highways and in major metro areas including British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. Each charging site will have four chargers on average and use the non-proprietary DC fast charging technologies (CCS and CHAdeMO)." "Electrify Canada's EV charging power will range from 150kW to 350kW, offering rapid charging. The higher 350kW is suitable for longer range, larger battery vehicles that are expected to come to market over the next several years."   http://www.futurecar.com/2478/VW-Group-Canada-Forms-Electrify-Canada-to-Install-Ultra-Fast-Electric-Vehicle-Chargers   2018 HYUNDAI SONATA PLUG-IN HYBRID DROPS BASE PRICE BY $1,350 "Hyundai released pricing for the refreshed 2018 Sonata Hybrid back in April, but information about its plug-in-hybrid sibling was nowhere to be found -- until today." reports Andrew Krok at CNET.com: "Hyundai has finally released pricing for the 2018 Sonata Plug-In Hybrid. It will start at $33,250, which is $1,350 cheaper than last year's base price. But it's not like standard equipment has decreased. It mates a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle gas I4 to a 9.8-kWh battery and a 67-horsepower electric motor. Its 28-mile range on battery alone is 1 mile higher than last year. The battery can charge to full in less than three hours on a 240-volt Level 2 charger."   A WEEK TO FORGET FOR ELON? Or maybe not...according to Wired.com "Earlier this month, German car rental company Nextmove set a new range record in a Model 3, covering 622 miles on a single charge—more than twice the promised figure. OK, so they did it on a track, averaging just 22 mph, and with the car's Autopilot system working the steering and pedals. (They sat a dummy in the car for the 28-hour slog.)" "Munro & Associates reversed its findings. After completing its tear-down of the vehicle, it found Tesla could make about 30 percent profit on each vehicle, better than any other electric car. “I have to eat crow,” Sandy Munro told Autoline Network." "Tesloop which offers rides between cities in southern California and Nevada, published a blog post this week saying its Model S 90D had passed 400,000 miles and transported thousands of passengers. That certainly makes it one of the world's best-traveled Teslas, and Tesloop says the seats and interior have held up well." I would add to that Tweets from Elon including 5,000 new Model 3 reservations and 2,000 Model S and X reservations. And Elon saying "We gave up some grip and width in exchange for range. I would recommend stickier tires and wider on the rear for best performance" so that could bring the 0-60 time down to 3.3secs Plus Marques Brownlee getting to drive the Model 3 Performance. And Business Insider says Tesla will report it's earnings in a few weeks (I'll help them out with a specific date, Q2 2018 Reporting Date: August 1, 2018 maybe going to ir.tesla.com was a step too far for them). But they do say: "Tesla could lose 50% of its pre-orders for the Model 3 and still have 200,000 on the books. And sustaining production for the vehicle at a modest 2,000 per week still means about $5 billion in additional annual revenue. That's a tsunami of cash on the way for Tesla. For the bears, it's clear that wagering on the bad news has been sucker's bet."   But here's something which makes me a bit sad. WSJ have been strong critics of Tesla for years, but when Pullitzer Prize winning writer Dan Neil drove a Performance this week, he was blown away. Seriously impressed. But then those who are desperate to see TEsla fail took to the internet. "Out of control #Tesla short sellers harassed a well-respected journalist into deleting his Twitter account after wrote a positive review of the #Model3. They swamped WSJ's Dan Neil with hundreds of tweets in less than a day." "After hours of harassment from short sellers over trivial things like why he hasn't test driven the barely available I-Pace (especially given that this is his first review of the Model 3), Dan Neil deleted his Twitter account." So they're criticising him for NOT taking a free junket, at Jaguar's expense, to e wined and dined and given the VIP treatment to write glowing words about the I-PACE, but a long time Tesla critics admits he was wrong and is personally attacked? C'mon internet!   MORE DETAILS ON PORSCHE TURBO CHARGERS John Rosevear from Fool.com can come across as a bit savage towards Tesla on Twitter but then when he writes, is very knowledge and even handed: "[Porsche has] developed a key piece of new technology for Porsche's upcoming electric vehicles. While the electric Porsches will be able to recharge using the common CCS DC Fast recharging standard, they'll also accept proprietary Porsche "Turbo Chargers" that operate at 800 volts, twice the industry standard." "Porsche's dealers will have Turbo Chargers available, some other sites may install them -- and Porsche may offer them to owners for home installation. In fact, the first two Porsche Turbo Chargers are already installed and working, at a Porsche dealership near Berlin."   WEEKEND EVENT 1 EVs In The Park. Matthew Nichols. .@EVNewsDaily please give a mention to the success of @EVsInThePark 2018, one of the largest gathering of pure electric vehicles in the UK (over 100+), weather and chat was great! Ang Lee's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk is the first film to utilise a shooting and projection frame rate of 120 frames per second in 3D at 4K HD resolution. In a drama which tells the story of American war heroes on leave from Iraq, will audiences be won over by what Ang Lee calls a " new immersive cinema?" Vietnamese American writer Viet Thanh Nguyen won the Pullitzer Prize for his debut novel The Sympathizer about the Vietnam war. His new book of short stories, The Refugees, draws heavily on his own experience of arriving in America having fled Vietnam after the fall of Saigon in 1975. Bruegel's Defining A Dynasty at The Holburne Museum in Bath is the UK's first exhibition devoted to the Bruegel dynasty and brings together 35 works produced by four different generations of the family. A key work in the exhibition is the Wedding Dance in the Open Air, an oil painting from the Holburne's own collection which, following conservation work and technical examination, can be attributed firmly to the hand of Pieter Bruegel the Younger. The Kettering Incident is a new 8 part series on Sky Atlantic starring Elizabeth Debicki who played opposite Tom Hiddleston in BBC's hit drama The Night Manager. Shot entirely on location in Tasmania, The Kettering Incident follows a doctor (Debicki) who returns to her home town after several years overseas, only to find herself at the centre of a mystery surrounding the disappearance of a young girl. Stefan Zweig's 1938 novel Ungueld des Herzens (Beware of Pity) brings together two of Europe's most boundary-pushing, imaginative theatre companies at the Barbican for the first time. Theatre de Complicite's Simon McBurney directs the outstanding Berlin theatre company Schaubühne in a story of a doomed romance set in the Austro-Hungarian empire just before the first world war.
