November 17th - Erik Davis, Rex Linn
Welcome back, you foul-mouthed punk slaaaaaags! In this episode we've taken to the hills for a slippery stumble around the 1993 "Dir Hard On A Mountain" extravaganza: CLIFFHANGER.END CREDITS - Presented by Robert Johnson and Chris Webb - Produced by Chris Webb - "Still Any Good?" logo designed by Graham Wood & Robert Johnson - Crap poster mock-ups by Chris Webb - Theme music ("The Slide Of Time") by The Sonic Jewels, used with kind permission (c) 2023 Tiger Feet Productions Find us: Twitter @stillanygoodpod Instagram stillanygoodpod Email stillanygood@gmail.comSupport the show
It's Die Hard on a mountain! Hang on tight as Phil and Liam grapple with CLIFFHANGER (1993), aided by a very special guest: Jamelle Bouie, columnist for the New York Times Opinion section and the host of the Unclear and Present Danger podcast. After the botched mid-air heist of a US treasury plane results in a violent plane crash, mountain rescue worker Gabe Walker is coerced into helping the ruthless thieves (led by a maniacal John Lithgow) find the missing loot, amidst the forbidding landscape of the Colorado Rockies. Michael Rooker, Janine Turner, Rex Linn, Leon and Craig Fairbrass round out the supporting cast of this spectacularly shot action extravaganza, which was expertly helmed by Finnish filmmaker Renny Harlin (director of Die Hard 2). After three flops in a row, Cliffhanger marked a return to form (and the action genre) for Stallone. The guys discuss their feelings about this action icon, and where this character fits in the pantheon of Stallone's other roles, in films such as the Rambo franchise, the Rocky franchise, Demolition Man, CopLand (and Judge Dredd). They also discuss director Renny Harlin's horror roots, and his penchant for cinematic sadism (Jamelle is particularly partial to a stalactite-related death). Lithgow's wild, Hans Gruber-inspired performance (and questionable “English” accent) also provide plenty of meat for the guys to chew over, and there's a significant amount of affection reserved for the work of character actors Rex Linn, Vyto Ruginis and Bruce McGill, which leads to a lengthy sidebar on the films of Michael Mann and Spike Lee. Janine Turner is also lauded, but the resolution of her role highlights the problem that many male directors had in successfully serving strong female characters in this era of action cinema. The ‘Die Hard Oscars' continue to provide fun and frivolity, and this week Liam and Jamelle decide to collaborate for a challenging edition of the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz, which unearths some fascinating casting concepts! Over the course of the episode you will hear the three of them talk about just how perfect Kurt was for this role, just how terrifying J.T. Don't worry there is still all the usual fun and nonsense as Craig, Scott and Adam get into the weird acting amibitions of Billy (Jack Noseworthy), how law enforcement is always the worst in these films and how Rex Linn is one of the most typecast actors in 90s action. Plus, Scott and Craig find out that while the podcast might be important but definitely not as important as dogsitting as Adam has dash off before the finale.

Now You Know - Better Call Saul - Episode 68Intro : Welcome to OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that talks about lesser-known facts, trivia, and even anecdotes from popular films and shows. I'm your host Nikhil.Vince Gilligan's critically acclaimed series, Better Call Saul, a prequel to Gilligan's magnum opus Breaking Bad has returned for its sixth and final season. Starring Bob Odenkirk, Rhea Seehorn, and Jonathan Banks in lead roles, the series follows the story of criminal lawyer Jimmy McGill before he becomes the opportunistic Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad. Here are some lesser-known facts about the iconic series. The first season of Better Call Saul is set in the year 2002, six years before the events of Breaking Bad. Creator Vince Gilligan wanted the show to run for six seasons, following Saul Goodman's life six years before Breaking Bad, and seven years before he makes his first appearance in the franchise.Vince Gilligan had originally planned to leave the series after setting up the first season and hand over the reins of the franchise to Peter Gould, however, he found it too fulfilling and decided to stay on. Which fans will admit, based on the outstanding quality of Better Call Saul, was ultimately the correct decision.Rex Linn's character, Kevin Wachtell, owns a bank named Mesa Verde Bank and Trust. Coincidentally, Linn was a Vice President of a bank in real life before becoming an actor. The numbers eight and two are significant in Better Call Saul. Jimmy McGill aka Saul Goodman made his first appearance in episode eight of season two of Breaking Bad. It is believed that it is not a coincidence that Better Call Saul premiered on February 8, which is 8/02 in the day/month format. The series is often revered for its attention to detail and its impeccable production quality. However, in season two a Kia Soul can be seen being driven on a street, a car that was released in 2007. But the scene takes place in the year 2003, four years before the car was launched. In season one, the titles of all the episodes bar one end with the letter ‘o'. The exception is the episode titled Alpine Shepherd Boy. In fact, it was originally called ‘Jello', but as the word was trademark protected, the creators decided on an alternate title. Catch the new episodes of Better Call Saul exclusively on NetflixWell, that's the OTTplay Now You Know for today until the next episode it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poochoWritten by Ryan Gomez

Welcome to week 3 of Face Your Fears Month where we face our fears in the most passive way possible...by watching a movie about them. This week we strap on our climbing gear to remake Renny Harlin's Cliffhanger (1993) starring Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow, Michael Rooker, Janine Turner, Rex Linn, Caroline Goodall, Leon, and Craig Fairbass. Invasion of the Remake climbs to new heights as we rethink this 90's action, adventure film about Gabe Walker who returns to face his friends after the tragic accident that cost them the life of a loved one. But a heist gone bad forces him to find his confidence and save the lives of everyone he holds dear. Cliffhanger is a fun movie with a lot of flaws, can the Invaders improve on it for a theoretical remake? Listen to this weeks episode to find out!
