I am talking with Sarah Kramer. Sarah is a registered nurse that transitioned into a fitness and body image content creator. Sarah shares her story about body image and disordered eating and how her daughters motivated her to stop weighing herself. She always says, “Exercise for reasons BEYOND the scale,” which means exercising for non-aesthetic reason. Her biggest reason for consistently showing up for runs or strength training sessions is to prioritize mental health, strength and resilience. You can follow Sarah on Instagram @iamsarahkramer.

In September 1969, African American journalist Wallace Terry reported on “another war being fought in Vietnam — between black and white Americans.” After the 1948 integration of the military, the U.S. Army had tried to be color blind, seeing not Black or white but just olive drab, but by 1970, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, Gen. Walter T. Kerwin, noted: “In the past year racial discord has surfaced as one of the most serious problems facing Army leadership.” So in the midst of fighting a deeply unpopular overseas war, the military also created the Defense Race Relations Institute (DRRI) and developed mandated race relations training. Joining me to discuss race relations in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era is Dr. Beth Bailey, a Foundation Distinguished Professor in the Department of History at the University of Kansas and Author of An Army Afire: How the US Army Confronted Its Racial Crisis in the Vietnam Era. Natalie speaks with Sarah Kramer, a Brooklyn woman planning on making Aliyah. Sarah is in her 60s, is a single mother and grandmother, and has a straightforward style. She tells listeners directly "there is no future for Jews in the United States" and continues describing the crime and political climate run by liberals and "woke" leaders. She explains that regarding crime, there is no jail except for murder....so in New York, crime is not punished! Time for Jews to leave New York...but they are going where? to FLORIDA. Big mistake. Come home. Come to Israel. Israel turns 75 this week and there is no better time to come home. Returning Home 23APR2023 - PODCAST

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank talks about an article by Sarah Kramer titled, “A New Virginia Law Will Force This Photographer to Violate His Faith… So He's Taking a Stand.” The convictions of the photographer, Chris Herring, have landed him in serious trouble in Virginia. Why? Because Virginia law requires him to celebrate same-sex weddings. Not only so, but Chris cannot use his website to explain why, without facing draconian penalties—monetary penalties that could quickly exceed a million dollars. As noted by Kramer, that's a heavy price to pay for living out your faith. The reason Chris is taking this stand is that he rightly believes that no one should be unjustly forced to say something against their beliefs under threat of government punishment. For Chris, a clear conscience is far more significant than success or money. Chris's stand for truth no matter the cost inspires all of us to continue on as cultural change agents rather than cultural conformists. Hank also answers the following questions:What do you know about the book that's titled, The Holy Scripture, which contains the Book of Jasher and the Book of Enoch? If the rapture and the second coming are two different events, wouldn't the rapture be called the second coming and the second coming would be the third?Do you believe that the animals we loved will be in heaven with us?I've heard some Christian teachers say that Mary was 12 or 13 years old when she gave birth to Jesus, what do you think about that?

Sarah Kramer dropped by the ID studios to get us caught up on her musical journey, her new album, Matter of Time, how she learned how differently musicians are treated while playing in Europe after a recent tour to Spain. She plays a song about her childhood home called "Way Back Home."
This week we want to share with you a piece that we really liked from our friends at Radio Diaries. It's a personal, revealing, surprising story told by a teen from a region that usually gets discussed only in terms of oil and conflict. For two years, Majd Abdulghani recorded an audio diary of her life in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia -- where women cannot drive, and where they only make up 16 percent of the workforce. But the society is changing, and Majd's story of studying to be a scientist, learning karate, and ultimately navigating the world of arranged marriages is a glimpse into a world rarely seen by outsiders. Radio Diaries' Joe Richman and Sarah Kramer introduce this audio diary, and conduct an additional interview at the end. You can learn more about Saudi women and see photos of Majd on radiodiaries.org, where you'll also find other great stories. On the Media is supported by listeners like you. Sarah Kramer is a rare bird. Her principal is trumpet, and her mastery of that instrument has earned her a career in which she has rubbed elbows and shared stages with legends like Bo Diddley, Leonard Cohen and Levon Helm. She got her start in New Jersey, studied music in college in New York City and spent some time in Taos, New Mexico, but she soon found that she suffered from a sort of musical diaspora. Through all her travels, the music and culture of New Orleans felt most like home, so she relocated to the Crescent City and immersed herself in the local scene. For eight years, she played every style she could manage - blues, jazz, latin, brass band, reggae, klezmer, alternative rock - as well as fronting her own band, The Sarah Kramer Project. She was living the dream and making a living in music, but the seeker in her implored her to push herself out of her comfort zone, so she relocated to Los Angeles and began to focus on her own unique style of songwriting and composition. Her 2013 solo release, Home, shows off her considerable talent as a musical force who defies any box in which you might try to put her. Kramer's music is not quite folk, not quite indie and far too adventurous to lump her in with typical singer/songwriter conventions. Home starts in familiar territory, with tremolo guitars, vocals and other standard-issue tools of the trade, and just when the listener thinks they've got Kramer pegged, the horns sneak in - weaving in and out of the arrangements and adding fresh timbres that owe a debt more to impressionist painters than to her beloved New Orleans rhythms. Kramer is currently working on a new record, and given her resume and the caliber of players that pick up the phone when she calls, it won't be anything but great.

The world has been watching Haiti ever since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated the country on January 12. If you are wanting to donate money to the relief effort the Canada Haiti Action Network has listed NGOs they think are best able to deliver aid. You can find that link at rabble.ca Sarah Kramer is a volunteer with Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods, an organization dedicated to grassroots change in HAITI through ecological sanitation projects, technology, and garbage transformation. Like many volunteers in the country, Kramer was thrown into a different kind of action when the earthquake hit and has been helping the relief effort since then. Kramer is trying to dispel the myth that Haitians have become desperate and violent in this time of crisis by sharing stories of hope. One of her letters came to the rabble podcast network, and we thought we would share it with you. Emeline Michel – Many Rivers to Cross from the Hope for Haiti benefit concert. You can purchase the song and disk at itunes. It seems like just last year that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that he was shutting down parliament until after the Olympics. Comedians have had a field day with his decision, and so, it turns out, have activists. The activist's field day happened this weekend when scheduled actions across Canada brought out over 25 000 people who wanted to tell Stephen Harper that they are not happy with his decision to shut down parliament, and stall democratic debate in Canada. In over 30 cities citizens gathered with their placards and chants. The rabble podcast network collected audio from four cities in Canada. Here are the voices of Canada's people, telling the Prime Minister just what they think of his prorogation. It has been over a month since the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. Although many were disappointed by the results that came out of COP 15, activists from around the world who were not allowed into the forums' larger meetings gathered at Klimaforum where they discussed the changes that needed to happen with an eye to bringing new ideas home. Zahra Moloo is an independent journalist from Kenya. She was at Klimaforum gathering the voices of African delegates. Over the next few episodes, Rabble radio will be featuring those interviews. Today, we're going to hear from the University of Nigeria's Dr. Julia Agwu Music: Emeline Michel Mon Reve. You can purchase this song at itunes.
Our 79th show is a podcast-only special edition, featuring two pre-recorded interviews. The first is Derek interviewing Billy Hulting, who helps put on the Worldfest in Encino, California. Billy talks about the festival, his vegan activism, and Zappa Plays Zappa, Dweezil Zappa's tribute to the music of his father Frank Zappa. Billy tours with the band as a percussionist. How cool is that? The second interview features Sarah Kramer, bestselling vegan cookbook author and artistic queen of kitch. Jilian, Scott and Derek talk to Sarah via Skype. Sarah tells us about her 2010 Wall Calendar, cookbooks, the Canadian seal hunt, vegan tattoos, kale spines, and wrestling with Isa Chandra Moskowitz.
