They discuss Jordan's hunting background, his journey into the outdoor industry, and his experiences living in Idaho. The conversation covers various hunting seasons, preferences, and strategies, particularly focusing on Jordan's love of waterfowl hunting. Jordan shares insights into his hunting experiences, upcoming trips, and the realities of working in the hunting industry. He discusses his favorite hunting spots, preferences for waterfowl, and the cultural differences between hunting in the West and East. The conversation also touches on the challenges faced by hunters in different regions and the importance of preserving hunting access. Takeaways: Jordan Murdoch is the national sales and marketing manager at Rig'Em Right. He shot his first waterfowl at the age of 12. California offers some of the best turkey hunting opportunities. Waterfowl hunting is considered the most enjoyable by Jordan. Hunting in Idaho provides a variety of opportunities. The hunting season in Idaho runs from mid-October to the end of January. Jordan averages about 50 to 60 hunting days per year. Public land hunting is the primary method for Jordan and his friends. Bird numbers can vary significantly from year to year. The real estate market in Idaho has seen significant price increases. Hunting in Idaho involves diverse environments like rivers and marshes. Using motion in decoys can significantly improve hunting success. RigamRite started by making decoy rigs and has expanded its product line. Black decoys enhance visibility and contrast in water, attracting more birds. Customer service is a key focus for RigamRite, enhancing customer loyalty. Waterfowl hunting gear must withstand harsh conditions and heavy use. Innovative products can change the way hunters approach their sport. Memorable hunting experiences often involve unexpected challenges. Scouting for new hunting locations can lead to successful hunts. Black ducks are a rare and special find for many hunters. Jordan discusses his usual hunting trips and potential plans for the future. He highlights the busy nature of the hunting industry, balancing work and hunting. Jordan enjoys turkey hunting during the off-season and has a routine he follows. He expresses a preference for familiar hunting spots over new adventures. Jordan feels fortunate to have access to great hunting locations in his area. He shares his favorite waterfowl recipe and cooking methods. Jordan's favorite shotgun is a customized Franchi he won at a raffle. He prefers elk sticks as a snack while hunting. The Boise River is his favorite place to hunt, despite recent challenges. Captive to Christ Alone

Good morning, Church! My name is Trent Houck, and I am one of the Staff Pastors here at FCBC. It's my joy to bring you to the word this morning. We will be looking at Colossians 2:8-15, but I wanted to begin with one of the New Testament's assumptions: All of the New Testament writers agree that we are in the midst of a spiritual conflict. Christians must remain captive to Christ alone. Paul writes to the Ephesians: 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication (Ephesians 6:11-18). All throughout our series on Colossians, we have been saying that Jesus is enough. A few weeks ago, I invited you to begin consistently praying: Jesus, you are more than enough for me each day. Far from being a mantra for peacetime, that phrase is for your spiritual protection against the enemy of your soul. It's a correction for your flesh. And, its an exhortation for your spirit as you stand apart from the culture's ways. Further, it may even protect our church's unity, as we gather around Jesus. Today, we're going to be examining one of the enemy's key tactics called captivation. That is, seizing, snatching, stealing, hijacking, or enticing people into his traps. But, more importantly, we're going to be examining how the Gospel protects believers from the devil's schemes. So, let's get to work! In the 2008 film Taken, starring Liam Neeson, Brian Mill's teenage daughter Kim Mills, embarks on a trip to Europe from America with some friends. She is instructed to call her dad when she arrives so that he can be assured of her safety. After failing to do this, Brian calls Kim, only to find her watching as her friend is abducted by human traffickers in their hotel room. She panics, watching from the bathroom window. Brian slowly and carefully walks her through another set of instructions so that he can gather as much information as he can about the criminals. Over the phone, he says calmly, "They will take you, and when they do, shout out as much information about them as you can. Their hair color. Eye color. Scars. Anything." The viewer watches Brian, as a father, hearing his daughter scream while being taken into the hands of predators. It's horrific. I don't recommend it. Brian Mill's packs his bags and sets out on a thrilling, heart-pumping, two hour journey to recapture his daughter from danger. What's the point of the story? Don't let yourself be overtaken by predators! See to it that no one takes you captive. Pay attention! Kim fails to do this. Kim believed that she was safe. That those kinds of things happen only to other people until the moment is upon her. In the same way Epaphras rushes to Paul to find help in his time of need. The Colossians were being captivated by false teachers. What should he do? Are we as a Church spiritually alert and awake, or are we floating down the Boise River of our spiritual lives, without a care in the world? Where are you this morning? Are you aware of your spiritual surroundings? There are basically two kinds of Christians here this morning: Those who are growing and experiencing rich, joyful, and enduring fellowship with the living God. Those who are safe in Christ. Those who are languishing and wilting in unbelief, falling into patterns of sin, and becoming captives to harmful snares. Theologians throughout the centuries have described the process of sanctification, or growth in godliness, in this way: While the overall trajectory of the Christian life is upward toward glorification and growth, there are rabbit trails and stuck points where we get lost. One of the ways that this can happen is by allowing ourselves to be captivated by false ideas of who Christ is. This can happen even in, and maybe even especially in, the local church. So, to reset the stage a bit for Colossians, we are two chapters into this glorious letter. Epaphras, one of Paul's Gospel-workers, traveled to Paul, who was in a Roman Prison and reported that there were predators at Colossae that were placing barriers in front of the Colossians. There were people being taken captive, and seduced into snares. Paul's central theme in the letter is the sufficiency of Christ. Jesus is enough. And, we continue to come back to this question: Enough for what? Last week, we found that Jesus is enough for the entirety of the Christian life. Paul writes, 6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving (Colossians 2:6-7). Paul says, "There is only one way to stay spiritually safe: Stay fixed on Jesus. Pay attention to Jesus. Don't swerve from Jesus." At this point, the Church at Colossae was ten years into their relationship with Christ, and they were being tempted, tested, and tried by the enemy of their souls. This took the form, not mainly of persecution, but the seductive force of false teaching. So then, all of Paul's praying (Col. 1:3-14), theologizing (Colossians 1:15-20), explaining (Colossians 1:21-25), animating (Colossians 1:24-29), and exhorting (2:1-7) are the martial arts and defense against false teaching. His purpose is to move the Colossians out of danger into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, who alone is safe and can save. So, in the next three sections of Colossians, Paul aims to show that Christ is enough by issuing three warnings: "See to it that no one takes you captive" (2:8) "Let no one pass judgment on you…" (2:16) "Don't submit to regulations" on the basis of human tradition (2:20) Paul reveals that there is nothing more compelling and seductive to humans than: false teaching, the opinion and praise of other men, and bodily regulations that provide proof of salvation. These are all barriers to the Christian's growth and can get them on side trails and dead ends. In this particular section Paul warns against captivating philosophies by giving one negative command, providing at least five reasons for this command, and reminding the Colossians of the Gospel. The Gospel, we find, is the antidote to spiritual kidnapping. Before we begin unpacking our text, we need to pause and reflect. Are we facing the same danger of spiritual captivity today? I would argue that we are. Consider our appetite for information, for teaching: Who among us is not listening to a constant stream of data through podcasts, articles, books, social media, blogs and the like? We are being exposed to more teachers, more philosophies, and opinions than previous generations could ever imagine. Jean Twenge cites that the average pre-covid, High School Senior in 2017 spent at least 6 hours a day on social media. Could it be that we are even more susceptible to the diseases of false information, false doctrine, and false teaching precisely because we are so inundated with sheer volume of it? Paul could likely have identified the false teachers by name. He could have detailed, even more acutely, what exactly they were teaching and why it was wrong. There was a definiteness and a concreteness to his world. He probably worked with Epaphras to be specific. He also worked with Timothy as a co-author (1:1). Paul was an expert in Judaism, and he was fluent in Greco-Roman pantheistic philosophy and cult religions of his day. He knew his world. So, no matter where the threat came from, Paul could work through it. But, we live in a new kind of world. In our culture of expressive individualism, we are all experts, especially on ourselves. We appoint our own experts. We curate our own lists of gurus and teachers, with nearly endless options, if one should fail. And, we do all of this privately, with no sense of accountability or visibility. And sometimes we wonder why we're at a spiritual stuck point in our sanctification. While more information is not inherently problematic, the human desire for infinite knowledge and infinite autonomy with that knowledge stems all the way back to the garden. The serpent's lie in the garden was this: "You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3:4-5). The very first lie that led to the Fall and the captivity of humanity was an invitation to the secret passageway of more, even infinite, knowledge. "You can know what God knows," says Satan. "I have a faster way to become like God. It's two, even three times, faster than what you're used to." This is dangerous for humanity. So, God said, "Don't take that road!" This is because only God can handle infinite information and knowledge. Ever since that moment in the garden, enemies of God have been making similar claims, dressed up in new clothes for each succeeding generation. While the flowers of sin may look different, the seeds of sin remain the same. So, here is the main personal question for us to ask: What captivates the attention of your heart? If you are not totally satisfied with the person and work of Jesus Christ, you will go into a season of being stuck. Mature pastors, theologians, and church members know that they are not immune to this. For example, one of the ghosts in C.S. Lewis' The Great Divorce, who should be most familiar with the things of God is afforded the opportunity to head to heaven. However, he remarks, "Bless my soul, I'd nearly forgotten. Of course I can't come with you [to heaven]. I have to be back next Friday to read a paper. We have a little Theological Society down there [that is, in Hell]." Lewis' haunts us with the hell-bent theologian, who will not enter into true knowledge of God for fear that he would have to forsake knowledge about God. He needed his theology, not Jesus alone. What captivates the attention of your heart?   Here is our main point: Christians must remain captive to Christ alone. Not ideas about Christ. Not philosophies concerning Christ. Not religious ideals related to Christ. Not with religious culture. But to Christ himself. He alone is the substance. And there is no replacement. Paul will unpack this main point in the following four ways and we will try to follow him closely: (Command) The Call to Be Captive to Christ Alone (Colossians 2:8)  (Reasons) The Christian's Causes to Be Captive To Christ (Colossians 2:9-12) (Explains) The Christian's Canceled Debts at the Cross (Colossians 2:13-14)  (Reminds) The Christian's Conquering King (Colossians 2:15)   Christians must remain captive to Christ alone.  Heavenly Father, we again come to you this morning to seek your face. You alone are our highest good. You are worthy of all our praise, adoration, study, and desires. We pray this morning that you would reveal yourself through your Word. Jesus, thank you for being enough. Thank you for your perfect life, your atoning death, and for the resurrection that assures us and comforts us. Cause us to walk more deeply rooted in you as a result of being together this morning. Holy Spirit, we pray that you would empower the preaching of your Word. That you would train us for godliness. Expose sin in our hearts. Show us how we are inclined to pursue enticing substitutes, rather than being fully satisfied with the Person and Work of Jesus. We pray that you would provide a real experience right here and right now of exactly what this text is talking about. We pray that you would do this for our good and for your glory, and we pray it in Christ's name, amen. First, Paul issues a command that we be captive to Christ Alone. He writes, 8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. Paul says, "Watch out! Pay attention! See to it! Look both ways!" This is the negative command: "Don't let anyone take you captive." It's important to notice that this command is not issued at the level of moral behavior, ethical actions, or instructions (he will get to that in chapter 3). Rather, Paul wants the Colossians to think. There's a difference. He's not saying, "Don't do that!" but rather, "Don't think that way!" Paul is addressing a command to the Colossians' belief system, to the way that they construct their understanding of everything. Really, this is a command addressed to what psychologists call "metacognition." The way you think about the way you think. "See to it", is saying, "Pay attention to the way you think about the world." While this command is negative, "Don't let anyone take you captive" the double negative at the end of the verse opens up the possibility of us stating it positively: Don't be captive to anything, [that is] not according to Christ. While in 2 Corinthians 10:5, he puts it positively, "We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…" (2 Corinthians 10:5) So, what are the weapons of these predators that Paul warns us about? There are two: Philosophy and empty deceit. 'Philosophy' and 'empty deceit' are both intellectual exercises. 'Philosophy' is literally, the 'love of wisdom.' "Empty deceit" is something that appears to be compelling, but it ends up being a road to nowhere. They are cheap tricks. So, the key question here is this: What do you allow to captivate you at the level of the imagination? Some of us are held captive by cat videos, our email inboxes, our jobs, careers, vacations, or kids etc. If you want to know what you're captivated by, just ask someone close to you, they see where your eyes go. They see what causes your emotions to spike or your heart to race. Human beings can be captivated at the level of the imagination, intellect, and reason. And, this is a beautiful human capacity. It's one of the ways that we are sanctified: Christians are to be captured by beautiful, glorious and penetrating thoughts of God. However, the pervasiveness of sin is such that it affects our reason and makes us susceptible to counterfeit gods. And so, the mind can be compelled to fall back into old, empty ways. So, then, Paul gives the Colossians two pieces of evidence to show why this philosophy is inferior. First, he says that this philosophy comes from 'human tradition', or that it literally is 'handed down/given from men.' Second, he says that it proceeds from the 'elemental spirits' of the world. To define these two things within the context of the Colossian Church, we need to see the Colossians as Paul sees them. The Colossians were not atheists, materialists, or individualists when they came to Christ. Prior to knowing Jesus, they were subject to the Greco-Roman pantheon of gods, rules of community life, and political views, etc. They were likely deeply superstitious, animistic, and spiritual. They were also probably very smart, philosophical and reflective. They were steeped in religious practices handed down by men, and believed that they were subject to the elemental spirits, that is, the spiritual forces of nature, or spiritual beings, that set the world in motion. Why would the Colossians be tempted to go back there? There are probably at least two reasons: first, these things made intellectual sense to them. Human tradition is a powerful persuader. It fit in their previous worldview. To illustrate: you find when you get married that your spouse inherited a whole host of human traditions that come into conflict with your own traditions. This shows up in all kinds of ways from family vacations, to Christmas traditions, to how you organize your sock drawer. Why do you do things that way? It's just how we did it in my house. It's intuitive. Second, the Colossians were tempted to regress because it made spiritual sense to them. They were tempted to practice their Christianity in line with their pantheistic upbringing. To illustrate: we grew up in a materialistic, scientistic world that has emancipated itself from the need of God. So, what do you think is our default mode when we're under pressure? We tend to value what's measurable and manageable over the Spirit. You see, the Colossians are being tempted in these ways because they are being called to follow Christ alone. When they come in contact with situations that seem to require more than Christ, they panic, and are susceptible to being taken captive. They have abandoned a whole series of practices, ways of life, traditions, and experiences that feel so normal. So, when these false teachers come along and tell them, "It's okay, add something to Christ!" This would have come across like their native, heart language. But, in the Gospel, Christians are given a new heart. Paul wrote earlier: "God has delivered us from the domain of darkness [this is every spiritual culture that does not exalt Christ is King, including our own] and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:13-14). In other words, Colossians, you no longer belong to human traditions or elemental spirits of the world, the domain of darkness. You belong to Christ alone.  And, Christ alone is sufficient. Paul writes, "He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation…For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things…" (Colossians 1:19-20). In other words, all attempts to order the universe by human tradition, or the spirits of the age are found wanting precisely because Jesus is the central figure to all things. Without Christ at the center, nothing makes sense in Christianity. Don't let anyone take you captive. Be captive to Christ alone. So, what are the reasons that a Christian ought to stay captivated by Christ? That leads us to our next point: Second, Paul gives at least five causes or reasons to remain captive to Christ. This part of the sermon could get very technical with questions about baptism, the nature of salvation, faith, and circumcision. But, my hope for you as we read this section is that you will ask this question: How could I be captivated by anything or anyone other than Jesus? He has given me everything that I could ever want or need in Himself! If you are not a believer in Jesus, this could be a moment where God performs the very action he describes in this passage. We are praying that he does. So, let your soul count the reasons for joy. Look at what God has done for you. 9 For in him[Christ] the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. The most important phrases that I want you to take from this section are these words: "In Him." Or, "in Christ" Or, "With Christ." These phrases are used around 165 times in Paul's letters. Here, Paul gives us the logic of the Gospel. He says, what keeps you from being captivated by false teachers? The Fullness of God dwells in Christ (Col. 2:9). You have been filled or completed in Christ (Col. 2:10) You were spiritually circumcised, or made alive in Christ (2:11). You were buried with Christ by baptism (2:12). You were raised with Christ through his resurrection (2:12). So, with these five reasons, or causes Paul renders the empty deceit or philosophy completely powerless by comparison. Each of them is a source of joy for the Christian. Notice though, what saves or sanctifies the Colossians is not a set of practical actions (i.e. do this).  But a set of objective, concrete, past actions that were accomplished by God.  Paul says, You have been filled in Christ. You were circumcised in Christ. You were buried with Christ. You were raised with Christ. So that means, the most important, transformative, and spiritually significant moments in the Christian life are those that took place through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It's not about what we do, it's about what Christ has done.  See, if you want to encourage a moralist, you give them a set of to-dos by which they can save themselves. You give them a problem set and you show them the way to solve each one. If you want to encourage a Christian, however, you remind her of what Christ has already accomplished on her behalf. That the Christian's main problem, sin, has been resolved at the Cross of Christ. So, let's unpack why each of these five causes are so encouraging. First, "In Christ" all the fullness of deity dwells bodily. The aim of this statement is to drive the Colossians away from two errors. Jesus was partially God. The belief that you can find God outside of Christ is lethal. And, it will kill your joy. Knowing that you can only find God in Christ sends you soaring. Jesus was immaterial. The belief that Jesus was only a soul or a spirit makes him unable to accomplish the forgiveness of sins.  So, Paul straightens these false teachers out. "No," Paul says, "All the fullness of deity, or anything you want to know about God can be found in Christ, the incarnate Son of God." Application:  First, You don't need to look further than Jesus to find God. Second, the material universe, including our bodies, were designed and created as "very good." God incarnate, the fullness of God, comes to find us in the incarnate Jesus. This is good news! Second, You have been filled in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority. This too, protects the Colossians from at least two errors. Salvation is partial. No, Paul says, you were filled. There are no additional steps necessary to open yourself up to God. God has filled you in the Person and Work of Jesus Christ. For all of us who find Christianity lacking at times, we need to be reminded that Jesus didn't skimp on us. He poured himself out completely on the cross. Jesus' authority is derived. No, Paul says, Jesus is the head of every and all authority. So, there is no higher authority or power by which you can be filled than the Person of Jesus Christ. Third, You were made spiritually sensitive, or alive, by the death of Christ. God accomplished a circumcision of the heart, that is a spiritual one, not by hands, through the Cross of Christ. That is to say, you were given a new heart, filled with new affections, and given a new spiritual vitality at the Cross. This protects the Christian from the errors that: You need additional spiritual work to be saved. Nope! Christ has done it all. You can't make yourself more sensitive than God has already made you to himself. Your old self rules you. Nope! You are a new Creation in Christ Jesus. Even though we face Romans 7 kinds of moments with our flesh and sin, we know that Christ put the flesh to death at the Cross, we live alive to God. Fourth, You were buried with Christ in Baptism. So, Jesus, having been laid in the tomb, was buried. Likewise, when the Christian undergoes baptism, they are visibly identifying with Christ's death and burial. The Christian doesn't fear death because he or she has already died. So, no practices of death-avoidance, whether that's aging creams, or plastic surgery, or diets will ever truly satisfy. If you are in Christ, God sees Christ's burial as your own burial. You went through a spiritual graveside service. Baptism Service: We do baptisms, which signify this transformation at least two times each year. If you have an interest in publicly declaring your allegiance to Jesus Christ, please talk to me after this service or sign up online! Fifth, You were also raised with Christ in his resurrection. When Jesus was raised, you were also raised with him. This protects the Colossian Christians from falling into the error that: Christ wasn't really raised. The empty tomb, the public appearances, the historically reliable proof all have massive implications for the Christian. Christ's resurrection doesn't matter. No way, when Christ was raised, Christians were raised with him. So, when he beat death, we beat death. Now, this is not a series of five steps to become a Christian. Rather, when a Christian becomes a Christian all five of these things become real, clear, and apparent. They all happen simultaneously, seamlessly. And, God does it all from first to last, through an instrument called faith.  So, we have to come back to verse 12: having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God… God does all this when a person believes. The way to stay safe from deceptive philosophies and empty myths is by rehearsing the Gospel, which saves sinners by faith. Staying safe in Christ is to be fully saturated in the blood-bought goodness of salvation by grace through faith. That leads us to our third point:   Third, if that's not enough, God went ahead and canceled your debts past, present, and future. Christianity is not a get-well soon plan. It's not a series of steps or moral accomplishments. No, Christianity is a declaration that our debts have been canceled. Look with me at verse 13:   13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. This text is astounding. I want to focus on the middle of verse 13: "Having forgiven us all our tresspasses." That is, forgiveness without reference to time. This means that the total record of debt that you accrued, past, present, and future is nailed to the cross of Jesus Christ. So then, three things should grow as we age: First, our awareness of God's moral perfection and holiness. Our salvation cost the death of his Son. Second, our sense of our own personal sinfulness. Our sin is still our greatest problem. Third, a growing awareness that the Cross of Jesus Christ bridges the gap from now to eternity. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. So, how does this relate to our previous two points? How does this keep us from the seduction and captivity of false doctrine? These questions lead us to our final point. With this, we will bring this sermon to a close. Finally, we remain captive to Christ because through the Cross Jesus became our Conquering King. Paul writes, 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. The image behind this text is that of the Roman Procession. One Author writes, "The triumphal procession was a lavish parade conducted in Rome to celebrate great victories in significant military campaigns… They were ostentatious celebrations, filled with valiant soldiers, the spoils of war, and the most theatrical pomp and circumstances Rome could muster. Moreover, the triumphal procession demonstrated Rome's prowess as the victor not only by parading the spoils of war, but also by leading in triumph the most important leaders and intimidating warriors of the enemy, now presented as conquered slaves. The highest honor any Roman Caesar or general could receive would be to lead one of these parades. Conversely, to be led as a prisoner in such a triumphal procession signaled one's utter defeat. . . . [T]he role of those led in triumph was to reveal the glory of the one who had conquered them, ultimately through their public execution and death. . . . At the end of the parade, the Romans publicly slaughtered as a sacrifice to their god(s) those prisoners who had been led in procession (or at least a representative sample thereof, selling the rest into slavery). Though a gruesome thought to us, what better way to magnify one's victory, while at the same time offering a sacrifice of gratitude to the gods, than to kill publicly the leaders and the most valiant of the vanquished warriors as the final act of triumph over them? To make this more contemporary, the Golden State Warriors had a parade in their own city to celebrate their 2022 championship against the Celtics. When did God accomplish this? When were the authorities and rulers disarmed, and when did the triumphal procession happen? Doug Moo writes, "…Paul insists that God, by sending Christ to the cross as the final and definitive means to take care of the sin problem, has removed any power that these evil spirits might have over us. This victory, celebrated and displayed in the resurrection and ascension of Christ, is what believers need to grasp as their own. Christ's authority over the rulers and authorities (v. 10) has been decisively manifested; and “in him” believers share that authority." So, the Colossians are called and commanded not to be captivated because their captors were already conquered. The fall prey to them was to reassign them power that had already been taken away. Christian, don't go backward! Don't get taken captive! Remain captive to Christ. He alone is worthy. In case you're wondering, at the end of the 2008 Film Taken, Liam Neeson's character, after defeating the enemies, returns his daughter home to the U.S. safe and sound. It is a triumphant and glorious reunion. This is the hope of the Christian life: what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. It is also the hope of Christian Missions. It is the message that we preach so that nations might rejoice, with the same joy that we possess. We're going to end our message with a brief update and time of prayer for our Missions Team heading to Mongolia.

Reasons to Enjoy Life Well, good morning, my name is Jason Wolin and I'm one of the pastors on staff here and it's great to be with you again today. We began with this video on biblical joy to set the joy of Ecclesiastes in its proper context. Today we continue where we left off last week. We saw Solomon commending joy to us. He's commending to us a simple formula of how to enjoy life. Enjoy what you understand. Trust when you don't. In order for us to really enjoy the good simple gifts of food, a spring day, a camping trip we have to release to God the parts that don't make sense. - Why do good things happen to evil people? - Why is it that death sweeps away the evil and the righteous? And when we entrust our good Father with complexities above our paygrade, we are then free to enjoy life. - This isn't the carpe diem (seize-the-day) joy that comes out of a worldview of fatalism. It's all headed down the sewer anyway so here's a piece of happiness to numb me along the way. - This is a joy that comes out of the fact that God is causing all things to work together for good. The fact that the redemptive narrative, however mysterious, is surely and absolutely unfolding. And that God as ruler and king has redeemed and is redeeming his people. And we can have joy knowing that God has got this under control. So today we continue this study on joy. Now in chapters 8 and 9, we see Solomon is writing using a very specific technique: He's using what we will call literary whiplash. He's violently bouncing back and forth between two extremes. He's bouncing from the chaos of life, the evil and the tragedy of the world, the unfair nature of life, and then without a transitional sentence bounces into the simple, amazing, even profound joys that God gifts us. And his tactic in using this literary whiplash is to make a sharp comparison. He starts by depressing you into submission that it is not possible to understand the mystery of suffering and death in hopes that you will relinquish those mysteries to God and focus on the present joys in front of you. "Wouldn't you rather just enjoy the gifts of God rather than spend your whole life figuring out what can never be understood?" When I was a kid I was really into magnets and tried to build a perpetual motion machine. And I had all these ideas. And I was so determined. At first, my dad encouraged me because he saw that I was having fun and learning things. But I think he could tell that was getting obsessed with it and I remember him making an offhanded comment, "You know, if you invent a perpetual motion machine you will have to break a law of the universe." I was like, "Thanks for throwing shade on my dreams." He said, "Enough with magnets and trying to do the impossible. It's not like you can just easily break the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. Why don't you go play in the sandbox." That is what Solomon is doing. Dude, just release the parts of life you can't understand to God. Just release it. There's joy right here for you. Solomon really is commending joy to us. In fact, I had a seminary professor who wrote a commentary on Ecclesiastes and he subtitled his work 'The Philippians of the OT' because he really sees joy as the interpretive key to the book. A lot of people have trouble seeing that because they read the book as pessimistic. But it all depends on your perspective. For example, one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life is the solar eclipse that happened a few years ago. It was so impactful to me, my brain went into straight up record mode: I can literally remember every detail of it. It was truly epic. Now obviously these moments are incredibly rare and are very short-lived. Just a few short seconds maybe once or twice in your life and for some, never. Now given the shortness of this event and how rare this event is, I have become someone of an evangelist. I might tell someone, "Man you've got to take the day off work to come out and see this." And they would say, "Well, I have this lead I'm working on and I might be able to close this big sale." - And I would argue back, "Dude, you might close that sale, but equally, you might lose that sale." - You only get one solar eclipse. It is 100% certain and it's 100% awesome and then it will be 100% gone. Do you hear that as pessimism? I'm not trying to be pessimistic about your sale. Nor am I being pessimistic about the brevity of solar eclipses. I'm just saying, "Why not enjoy the thing that's right here, right now, that's guaranteed? Why would you let this joy pass you by?" This is what Solomon is saying. So in today's passage, we are going to see Solomon continue to commend joy to us. And some of those arguments will be positive; look at how great this joy is. And some arguments are negative; stop thinking you have control over future joy because there's no guarantee. But positively or negatively, he's commending joy. So with that setup, let's break into our text. Now, remember what we said about literary whiplash. Solomon has just finished depressing us into submission with the absolute certainty of death. We can't lose the context here because it's key to what he's doing. So before we open our text today, let's just re-read where we left off last week. So what is he saying? He's saying, "Look around. Let's take this out of the realm of religion for a moment. This isn't theological. People who are alive are afraid of death. People who are not alive are not afraid of death. Why because dead people can't think. They can't do anything. That's just a strict observation. What does nature teach us? People die." Most people think they deserve to be treated fairly, to have a really good life, lots of good things happen to them. What about nature teaches you that? Everything is unfair and the only thing nature teaches you is that you deserve to die. Do you hear the bleakness and despair? He's pointing out the certainty of death. Why? So you start living! Enjoy this life right now! So that was last week. Now without a transitional hint, look at how he snaps us into the current simple moment. He goes from the certainty of death in verse 6 to here in verse 7. You have a gift. You are not dead. A living dog is better than a lion. But you will soon die. So, with this minimum amount of time that we have been given, Solomon is pleading, "Pursue joy! Go see an eclipse. Go sit and watch the ocean. Go watch a sunrise. Lay on your back and look at the clouds. Eat a picnic lunch. Enjoy life." Now someone who does not agree with the Christian worldview could agree with this point. No question. Enjoy today for you don't know what tomorrow holds. That's just good common sense. But here's the part that changes everything. These sources of joy are not unexplainable freak occurrences that happen upon you. They are gifts from God. And the fact they are gifts from God totally transforms the way you experience them. Let me illustrate. American's this year will receive a stimulus check because of the crisis we are in. I suppose we can thank our great-grandchildren from that. Now that's a significant amount of money. Now, what if your mom or dad, son or daughter, or best friend gave you a birthday present with a check for that same amount of money. At great cost to them, they gave you that check. It's the same amount of money, but massively different in terms of how you receive it. I mean, your joy is a million times greater simply because of the relationship. Because it's a gift from someone you love. The money is very much secondary to the love that you sense in your heart toward the person. The gratitude, the thankfulness, the affection. It says in verse 8, God has already approved what you do. God is a smiling father. He's saying, God has laced life with all sorts of pleasures because he loves you. So enjoy all those pleasures along the way as God sovereignly doles them out. And my favorite part of this text is how common it is. Start glorying in the beauty of God by eating dinner. He says, man, don't just cram calories down your gullet. Dinner is a holy moment. We should eat slowly. Friends should be invited. There's no rushing. Good food and good drinks and good friends are God's gifts to you. Enjoy the portion given to you. Think about this description of heaven: - Wedding supper of the lamb where you are banqueting at the table of the king. Food is a gift from God. That's why we pray before we eat. Do you want to really prepare your heart for heaven? Start at the dinner table. If you want significance, start at the dinner table. Do you want purpose, significance, and meaning in life? Then smile. Laugh. Enjoy the wonderful gift of food with the wonderful gift of family and the wonderful gift of friends. You have been blessed with food to be a blessing. Now go do it. God wants you to enjoy life! Knowing this eliminates the entire foundation upon which asceticism is built. Asceticism says that God is pleased when we starve ourselves of pleasure. But according to this passage, we don't have to ask the question, "Is it right for me to enjoy a gift of God?" Of course it's right! The text says that God has already approved what you do. In fact, it is right to say that the Bible reserves the severest of language to condemn people who would argue that food and marriage are not gifts to be enjoyed. Wow, God is serious about us enjoying dinner. Of course, we can abuse a gift. Of course, we can want a gift at the wrong time or in the wrong way. But the gift itself is exactly that. It's a gift that God wants us to enjoy. Imagine a son who graduates from high school. Dad gives him 20 bucks and says, "Go out with your friends to any restaurant you want and buy anything on the menu." He's been pre-approved to enjoy anything that 20 bucks can buy him. It would be totally wrong thinking for the son to say, "Man, I really want that milkshake, but maybe my dad would be happier if I didn't spend it." No, God is a smiling father and wants you to enjoy the $20 bucks he just gave you. That $20 was for your joy. Do you think of God that way? He wants to bless you. He is a smiling father. He wants to see you happy. - He gifts you beautiful weather so you can enjoy it. So get out. - He gifts you food. He gifts you drink. So eat and drink. - He gifts you freedom. - He gifts you music for your joy. So listen. You have the pre-approval from God to enjoy all those things. You are pre-authorized to enjoy life. In chapter 9 verse 8 it says, "Let your garments be always white. Let not oil be lacking on your head." Anointing one's head with oil was a common practice in this very dry climate. It was the common finishing touch after you've washed and cleaned. Same with white garments. Your dirty brown garments are used for farming and traveling. But when you are washed, you put on your white garments. It's a sign of being clean. So you anoint your head with oil and wear white clothes before a wedding. You'd do it before a feast or festival. But you'd also do it before entering into the temple. David, after he had mourned the death of his son, washed, anointed himself with oil, and went into the house of God. In other words, you've been given liberty to wash and enjoy life. Enjoy the gifts but don't soil yourself with them. Solomon knows a thing or two about trying to use God's gifts the wrong way. He's soiled himself with every gift God's given him. Remember, Solomon was the great happiness experimenter. And he began the book by trying to over-dose on every one of the gifts. But now as he begins to summarize some of his lessons, you hear the wisdom coming out. - Women can't make you happy, but enjoy your wife. - Work can't satisfy, but enjoy your work. - Food can't fulfill, but enjoy your food. - Wisdom can't solve your problems, but enjoy the fruits of wisdom. Because you have already been fulfilled by God, the gifts only serve as vehicles to remind you of why God is so worthy of your affection. They are tokens of God's love, expressions of his kindness. God is a smiling father that wants to bless your socks off. So really, the call here is to enjoy God, through his gifts. Here's a little bit of insight into my composition: I've got a broken piece of code in my brain that causes me to lose my keys. No matter how hard I try, no matter how hard I try to fix this defect, I still misplace them. I literally lose my keys all the time. I'm comforted when I hear that at least some other humans have this problem. Now there are various ways in which a person can lose keys, but I can tell you the worse kind. It goes like this: you're just a tad bit late and you have the moment of terror where you realize the keys are lost. You tear apart couches, clean bedrooms, inspect junk drawers, and retrace your steps to no avail, only to pass by the car and see the keys hanging in the ignition. It's so terrible because the thing you wanted so badly, that would have unlocked everything, was right there but you searched and searched. Joy is kind of like that. The fruits are hanging all around you. Joy is dangling right here, right now, today. The key is right in front of you. It's staring at you, but here you are tearing apart couch cushions and closets and jean pockets. Solomon yells at you, "The keys are in the ignition!" Here's the way we tend to do this. We find ourselves discontent and so we look back yesterday, a week ago, a year ago, to remember a time when we were happy. The good old days...man if we could just get back to that. Or we find ourselves thinking forward, the key is certainly just up there a few more years. If only I get this amount of money, then I can be happy. And yet, the key is dangling right in front of you. Today. Right here. Just open your eyes and see it. Look how much joy is everywhere. Look at it! It's everywhere! You are allowed to enjoy life, so open your eyes and take in what's right in front of you. This is a simple appeal to just enjoy what's right in front of you. When I am tempted to think that I need to buy something to be happy, I often think to myself, "Actually, what unfinished project is right in front of me? What is right here that I can do?" - We need to go on vacation. What if you just went down to the Boise River with a picnic lunch? - What if you just planted a garden? What if you enjoyed the process of weeding instead of seeing it as a chore? - What if you just call a friend and laugh? What if you called 10 friends? - Pet your dog or cat. Every day, there are so many joys. Picture life as a conveyor belt. On that conveyor belt are trays with meals. At breakfast time, a meal comes out, then lunch, then dinner. Now you don't get a choice. Sometimes it's very familiar. Sometimes it's very different. But every day, without fail, the meals keep coming. It would be foolish to look at that meal and say, "I don't like oatmeal. I wish I could have the bacon and eggs from two weeks ago." Or to say, "I heard that tomorrow we are having prime rib," so you let the meal go. Eat what's in front of you. Don't look forward to tomorrow's meals. And conversely, don't be like the Israelites that look back on yesterday's meals, if only we were back in Egypt with the leeks and garlic. Enjoy what God gives you today. What delightful things, nourishing things, healthy things are right in front of you right now. Go enjoy them. Now at first blush, these commands seem so strange. Why would we have to be commanded to enjoy something? If it was enjoyable, why would we need encouragement to enjoy it? Isn't enjoyment kind of automatic? Here's the answer: because the greatest joys in life are joys that require work. Take for example the joy of food. I mean there's top ramen. You boil water and you are done. That's super easy. You can scarf it down. That's food. But good food takes work. You have to prepare. You have to carve out time on the calendar to shop for it. It takes a long time to prepare and cook. But man, so much better. And because it's work, we have to be reminded that it worth it. Consider marriage. Solomon says to live with your wife whom you love. He's commending joy with your spouse. Spiritual and emotional intimacy does not come easily. Getting into the core is difficult. You have to really listen and engage and understand and ask good questions and be humble. We have to die to self and live for the other person. Solomon says, "Look at your husband. Look at your wife. There is so much joy to be had right there in that person you are married to, but you have to seek it. There's no such thing as 5-minute relational depth." You have to dive into them and try to understand them and relate with them. Seek depth with your wife, with your husband. This is your portion. As you work at that, your joy increases because your personality, desires, and values collide with your spouse's, you both get sharpened. This deep, meaningful, emotional connection is established. That's a gift from God. Few things in life are meaningful and beautiful and do not have a cost. The same is true for work. Solomon says, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." Pour yourself into your work and see where it goes. Pull hard on the oars and see what God does with that. Work hard and be rewarded by that work. So these were both positive pleas. Enjoy God's gifts because God is a smiling father and pleasure is a dangling key. Now he's going to transition to negative pleas. He's getting you to act on that enjoyment by pointing out the instability and uncertainty of life. Tomorrow, this joy may be gone. If you are always putting off today for the sake of tomorrow you might be really sorry because tomorrow may never come. Chance is a thieving rat. You can't guarantee the outcome you're seeking. Notice that everything on this list is in the future. - There's a female gymnast who is training for a medal. And she's training today so that she can win. But she slips on the balance beam and falls. The race was not to the swift. - There's a Navy Commander who's training up his men, who have the best defense system in the world but are destroyed by the undetected submarine. The battle is not to the strong. - There's a guy who graduated valedictorian, acing all the exams and studying his guts out through MIT, but the high school dropout established the Fortune 500 company. Riches are not to those with knowledge. There are two lessons Solomon is pointing out. There are uncontrollable elements that will rob you of your dreams. But secondly, don't rely on your talents and gifts to get you your dreams. It is so easy to make formulas for success. And in one sense, it isn't wrong. It's not wrong to plan. Proverbs talks all about this. Proverbs 6:6-11, "Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber and want like an armed man." But even the best-laid plans won't always turn out. You can't trust in the plans. - The first out of the gate doesn't always win. - The strongest doesn't always survive. - Great planning sometimes ends with failure. - The wise sometimes get discriminated against. Time and chance happen to all. Life just doesn't turn out the way you expect, no matter how wise you are. No matter how right you are. I remember being that 25-year-old kid that knew it all because I had read some books. I would think, "Dude, it's simple. Here's how it works. Here's the formula for success." But it never works that way. There are always exceptions, chance, loopholes, variants, x-factors, free radicals. We hate the idea of not being in control. And we are often so scared of not having control that we develop paranoia. I think we have a bit of this in our culture right now trying to control an invisible virus. We have this illusion that if we do certain things, we will be safe. Really? Isn't God ultimately in control? Oh, how we hate not being in control. I learned this week the meaning of the word meticulous. It means a person who possesses many fears. Because they have so many fears they try to arrange and organize and control life down to the last detail. The word has evolved a bit so that it has become a virtue but you can see the idea. Fear of unknown outcomes drives all sorts of behavior. But the bottom line is that the future is uncontrollable. At any moment your life could be over. You could be biting into a sandwich, just like you have done 10,000 times in your life but that particular sandwich has an invisible hook in it, and death reels you in. You never saw it coming. Like a fish taken in an evil net, like birds that are caught in a snare, so the children of man are snared at an evil time when it suddenly falls upon them. Probably my favorite story in the Bible that illustrates this is the story Jesus tells in Luke 12:16-21, This man is called a fool. Do you want to know what a fool is? A fool is someone who won't listen and never changes. That's a fool. This guy had Ecclesiastes. And Solomon said, enjoy life today. You don't need more. You don't need bigger barns. You have plenty. Enjoy what God has given you. And he said, "Nah, I need more." Do you know why Jesus told this parable? Life consists not in the number of possessions but in the ability to enjoy the gifts of God because they are from God and you love God. - Greed and covetousness say, "When I fill my barns, then I'll thankful and I can be happy as I eat my meal." - Contentment and joy say, "I'm so thankful and happy as I eat my meal I don't care what's in my barn." Here's a final analogy. Two positive. Two negative. Now certain dispositions are not particularly interested in money. They can see the vanity of that. They are more motivated by knowledge or intellect or wisdom. They see that wealth is unstable and can potentially backfire severely and so they like the security that comes from investing in themselves, not in the economy. I'm going to study and get smarter because nobody can take that away from me. I want to use my wisdom to shape the future. Because after all, chance and wisdom are warring clans. Wisdom tries to control chance and chance tries to outsmart wisdom. But with enough wisdom, I can outsmart chance. I will be loved for saying that really wise thing. But Solomon says, are you sure? Wisdom might overcome chance, and might overcome even other people. Wisdom is a very powerful tool. But there is no guarantee that you will be appreciated for it. Let me tell you a story about a wise man, whose wisdom affected an outcome, brought about great success, and then is totally forgotten. Solomon illustrates this through a story. Here's his point: big, loud ideas are sometimes wrong. Small ideas spoken in a whisper are sometimes right. - Here was a wise man who was right. - He did all the right things. - He said it all in the right ways and then other people took credit for those things. - There's no guarantee that you will be remembered for it. Don't live for the moment of fame or being remembered, because it may never happen. Don't live for the moment where your wisdom is suddenly needed, because it won't be appreciated. Live for today, right now, with the simple joy that is in front of you. Thank God for it and live! ## Summary So the appeal here is to enjoy life. Enjoy the good gifts of God because he is a smiling father who wants to give you good things. Don't look at yesterday's gifts. Don't look at tomorrow's gifts. Enjoy today. Why? Because tomorrow's gifts may never come. You are right to plan but chance might destroy everything you worked for. You are right to plan but being right is rarely remembered. So enjoy today. - God is directing history to fix all the wrongs in the world. - Jesus Christ is coming back to resurrect the dead. - Jesus Christ will give you a new body that will not be subject to decay and corruption. - Is that not a reason to rejoice? - Is that not a reason to trust God with what you don't understand so that you can enjoy what you do? ## Announcements As we close, I wanted to let you know about a COVID-19 relief opportunity. As some of you know we sent a team to India this year right before India locked down due to coronavirus. Some of the students who are part of the seminary we support were unable to travel back to their homes before the lockdown and are now stranded without work in some pretty difficult locations. The village areas are significantly affected as well and we'd like to send a relief gift for the pastors and their wives to meet the needs of the community. So if you are inclined to give in this way, you can give online, satisfiedinjesus.org, under the 'Community & Giving' tab. Through this tab, you can give online to our regular fund, or there's a dropdown where you can designate your gift to India Relief. Thank you for your consideration in this regard.

(https://www.theh2duo.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Waterin-Real-Life-Steve-Drangsholt.png) Steve Drangsholt is an Infrastructure Market Sales Leader with Brown and Caldwell in Boise, ID.  Steve has a background working both as a consultant and for a public utility in the pacific northwest. He’s an engineer and project manager with a knack for bringing strong teams together to solve complex problems for communities dealing with intense wet weather and dense urban environments. His innovative and disciplined approach has led to reductions in CSOs and SSOs throughout the Puget Sound in Washington State. Steve is Pacific Northwest through and through having grown up in the Portland Oregon area, attending the University of Washington and beginning his career in Seattle. He has a strong passion for water and wastewater and is heavily involved with the Water Environment Federation and his member association the Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association. Outside his day job, he enjoys cycling, paddleboarding and spending time around the Boise River. Top Takeaways: There are so many benefits to being involved with water industry associations such as WEF and AWWA. They offer valuable mentoring opportunities, professional development, and the ability to network and learn from other professionals you may not have met otherwise. Young professionals should measure their success by the impact they’re making and not the title on their business card. The water industry is massive and yet still feels like a tight-knit family. Therefore, it’s best to have a mindset of competing on ideas versus competing against people. Show Notes: [4:00] Check out Steve’s water journey. Does it sound familiar at all? [11:05] Steve explains the numerous benefits of being involved in WEF. [20:09] Steve explains the value he gained by working for both a public water utility and private engineering consulting firms. [28:20] What can we do as an industry to really remember our “why”? How can engaging with the public in events like Waterpalooza help create empathy in the industry? [35:12] Why is cultivating the young professional community so important to the next generation of water nerds? [42:42] Steve talks why it’s important in such a tight-knit industry to compete on ideas, not people. [48:20] When it comes to the public’s perception of the value of water, how will we know when we’ve made it? What does success look like? My family has been living in the same apartment for the past seven years. It is located right next to the Boise Greenbelt and the Boise River. The Boise River Greenbelt is a paved pathway that runs on both sides of the river for people’s enjoyment and recreation. Over the years I have seen the seasonal ebb and flow of people from summer to winter. In the winter the Greenbelt is open and vast. In the summer it is usually very well populated and active. I love to see families riding their bikes, skateboarders doing tricks, couples holding hands, the masses of people floating the Boise River, and the entire mix of recreational undertakings unfolding on the Greenbelt. I have spent quite a bit of time running and walking on the Greenbelt. Sometimes on a weekend afternoon I will get a lot of stares and looks from young child because I do not have two hands. Other times I will see people I know and we will stop to chat a bit. On more rare occasions it will just be me running with the cool river breeze, the sound of the river water rushing, and encountering more animals than people. It is such a fortune to live so close to the Boise River with quick "backdoor" access to the Greenbelt. On my runs I tend to cross or pass by a bridge connecting the two sides of the Greenbelt at Ann Morrison Park. I started to notice a man on this bridge from time to time. Not all the time... Just "time to time." He was just standing there leaning on the rail of the bridge doing what seemed like nothing. I then realized I would see him mostly during my early evening runs. This has been going on for years.  As I started to see him more and more I realized what he has been doing all these years. I know him only in my thoughts as "The Man On The Bridge." Thanks for listening! I invite you to share this podcast, offer a comment or leave some feedback. Show Notes: The benefits and beauty of living next to the Boise River and the Boise River Greenbelt. Fishing Tips From the Idaho Angler

Today, we’re doing something a little different. Instead of talking about real estate, I want to share a fun activity for those of you who live in Boise: fly fishing. Lewis Hunt from Idaho Angler is here to talk about some of the primary fishing opportunities you have right now for trout and steelhead. For the next month, you can find trout in just about any stream in Boise. Lewis recommends checking out the Boise River in town, which has been fishing quite well. The south fork of the Boise is just starting to fish, and the Owyhee River has been fishing for the last several weeks. As we move through the month and the weather starts to get warmer (hopefully), we’ll see more stillwater fishing. Check with Lewis at the Idaho Angler; he’ll let you know what’s fishing hot and what you need to fish those places ahead of time. “Fly fishing is a great hobby, and Lewis Hunt from Idaho Angler is here to give you some tips on where to find trout and steelhead this season.” The steelhead are going to continue to fish as well. For fly fishing, it’s going to be a nymphing game until the weather gets more consistent. You can fish a lot of streamers in town and on the Owyhee River, but it’s still mainly a nymphing game. The Boise River is fishing as good as I’ve seen it in the last couple of decades. If you are interested in steelhead, you have a few opportunities in the south fork of the Clearwater River. There’s some salmon outside of Riggins, but salmon is mainly between Stanley, Challis, and Salmon. A lot of people think that it’s all nymph fishing or indicator fishing this time of year, but you can still swing some flys. Use a slower swing and find some slower water. You can stop in to get some flies from the shop and see what’s going on before you go out. If you have any questions, you can call Lewis at the shop at 208-389-9957. As always, if you have any real estate questions, just give me a call or send me an email. I would be happy to help you!
