For Bret, the bright lights of Broadway had called him away from his small town, but the struggle to succeed was overwhelming. He realized his drinking had become a problem. Stephen, on the other hand, was living his dream and performing, but his drug and alcohol addiction threatened to derail everything he'd worked for. Both men had always dreamed of being fathers and had assumed they would adopt. But as life took them on different paths, they found themselves considering surrogacy. They bravely share their journey to parenthood in this episode. Through hard work and multiple income streams, Bret and Stephen have created a stable and loving home for their family. As influencers, they adore spreading joy and positivity – there's no room for negativity in their lives! "Moving to Texas was about reparenting myself and setting boundaries," Bret says. For him, this new chapter was a chance to rediscover himself. • Catch Bret and Stephen LIVE every Sunday at 8pm CST for their "Joy Chat" on Instagram. Okay… let's talk about delegating shall we? My guest today is Lisa Pepper-Satkin who loves serving her clients. It's her happy place. What she doesn't love is all of the admin involved in marketing her business and delivering for her clients. Lisa has two contractors who work for her and she came into our conversation hoping to figure out a way to improve their performance. What Lisa and I uncovered pretty quickly was that in order for her team to improve, she had to become a better delegator. Which makes sense because - probably like you - Lisa started out as a one person show. She got really good at doing all of the things on her own. So, she brought that energy to her team assuming that she'd have to show them every little step involved in their tasks, too. Her micromanaging ways didn't feel good for Lisa or her team. And when I shared my all time favorite delegation tool, Lisa's mind basically blew. Whether you have a VA who only works a few hours per month, a team of several people, or you're still working as a one person show, this episode will reveal the best way to delegate a project so you give your team autonomy and everybody understands exactly what success looks like. About Bret Shuford: I fell in love with movie musicals before I even hit kindergarten. And when I saw kids singing and dancing in real life, my fate was set. When I was 5, my mom took me to our local library to see a performance by The Gingerbread Company, a group of kids who traveled around singing about good habits and stranger danger. I knew I had to join them. And the following year, I did. Growing up in Orange, Texas, my childhood was filled with performing at every opportunity: community theater, regional commercials, and even local films. The fact that I've spent the last 20 years working on Broadway would come as no surprise to the people who knew me as a child.   Disney Theatrical took me under its wing when I was cast in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast, and subsequently, The Little Mermaid. Both shows were dreams come true, and continue to have been gifts in my life. During that time, I met my husband, ballet dancer and actor Stephen Hanna.  Working as an actor in film and television was always a dream for me, and after starring in several independent features, I was lucky to work with Martin Scorsese in The Wolf of Wall Street. I got to hang out and chat with Matthew McConaughey between takes. My mom was practically bursting with pride when she saw me onscreen with a fellow Texan. I may have left Texas a long time ago, but much of my heart is still there, including my parents, my twin brother, and my two older brothers. It was through my oldest brother's autism that I learned the magic of fantasy and how it can lift people up.(perhaps that's why I love Disney so much)  As a kid from small town Texas, I could never have imagined what it would be like to be in an Oscar-nominated movie or a Tony-nominated show.  And that’s why I became a certified Life Coach and started my YouTube channel —to show people across the country that fulfillment in this career is possible. My guest this week is Bret Shuford who's been a working Broadway actor for over a decade. Up until recently, Bret's niche has been broadway-centric.   As you'll hear in the episode, Bret is not totally inspired by Broadway any longer. The culture can feel destructive, the decision makers less inclusive…   Yet, it's been really hard for Bret to transition away from the niche he's really known for. He came into the episode with a deep desire to clarify who exactly he should serve. If it's not Broadway, then what is it exactly.   What Bret and I uncovered is a myth most coaches buy into. And that's the idea that your niche must focus on your ideal client's occupation, interests, or goals.   But that's not the only way to niche down. You can draw in the perfect clients when you let your unique process be your niche.   And one thing Bret is so super skilled at is developing an irresistible personal brand.   So in this episode we explore what his business could look like if he let the thing he's really good at lead the way. It's a very inspiring conversation that's sure to bring you a fresh way to think about your own niche.   Want to learn more? Hello and welcome to episode 57 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!Hey, remember my guest from episode 49 Broadway Actor Bret Shuford, also known as the Broadway Life Coach. Bret has created this really fun and creative way to add more positivity to your life. The Actor Mindset Reset is a FREE 14-day video series where Bret shares a daily inspirational video highlighting a different aspect of mindfulness, as it relates to the performing arts. Sprinkled throughout the training are seven unique coloring pages created in collaboration with Coloring Broadway to help release anxiety and solidify that day’s training. Inspiration, Musical Theatre, AND coloring? Does it get any better than that? Why coloring? Coloring is a non-cognitive, artistic activity- meaning it both calms your mind and frees your creativity. Coloring is known for lowering cortisol levels, calming nerves, and reducing stress. Damn, I’ve got to revisit those coloring pages and do them.Plus, the act of creating without thinking puts you into the flow state where you are allowing ideas to come and go without forcing them. You become more receptive to the here and now. And regardless of what is happening in our minds as we try so hard to predict the future, the here and now are always beautiful. It’s no surprise that coloring is a favorite backstage activity on Broadway. Kids, adults, especially swings and standbys! Amidst the energy and sometimes chaos, they feel that urge to free their minds and create, create, create. The Actor Mindset Reset is not limited to a specific time period. It will begin whatever day you sign up and continue for two weeks. Visit http://singdanceactthrive.com/057 for the link.Today’s guest is actor, filmmaker, and podcast host Ashley Tabatabai. After growing up in Spain and then attending University in the UK, his focus gravitated towards an acting career. As I’m sure many of you actors can relate, an actor’s life consists of numerous auditions and rejections. Ash wasn’t going to let that stop him so he began to write and produce his own content and went on to premier an award-winning short film at the LA International Short Film Festival.I wanted listeners to hear about his experiences with creating his own content as an actor and about what he has learned from interviewing casting directors on his podcast The Ash Tab Show.

Until a few years ago, I was 100% DIY and that is a respected way of doing things as I’m sure many of you are currently trying to build your career all on your own. However, since I discovered coaching I have seen that life is so much easier when someone with more experience than you in an area that you lack shows you the way.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀That is why I show up for my musician and actor clients. Although I am passionate about arts and entertainment, I really do what I do because it allows me to connect with other creatives on a personal level. I am able to have an impact on their lives by helping them build confidence, grow their audience and achieve goals so that they can build a thriving career in the arts without feeling overwhelmed or doubting themselves.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀That is what my coaches do for me and I’m very grateful. I still hustle but now I hustle with a clear plan of action to achieve the life of my dreams. There are a million reasons why I love my job, but this is what really lights me up.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Who is your supporter? This upcoming month I am offering free coaching sessions to qualified musicians and actors who are driven to succeed but lack a strategic plan. If you want to stop letting fear and a lack of knowledge hold you back, I can guide you with strategies to propel you to the next level. Relationships, one of the hardest things in life... and if we make them gay, I think it's even harder! Creating a character in a new Broadway musical is a gift for any artist, because you get to infuse the show with your own artistry. But it is the lucky few who get to create characters multiple times in multiple musicals. By originating roles in multiple musicals, they helped in a small but meaningful way to shape the legacy of musical theatre for generations to come. ...at least, that’s easy for me to say from the outside. But does it feel like that to the actors who create these ensemble roles? Do they think about the characters they create once the shows close? I posed this question to five of the most experienced and storied ensemble actors working on Broadway today before a live audience at BroadwayCon 2020. Currently performing in Broadway’s Beetlejuice, Chicago, Frozen, Hadestown and Wicked, they each shared stories about the small but mighty influence they’ve had on some of our favorite musicals. Why I'll Never Make It - An Actor’s Journey

These are the five questions I'll be asking each guest all season long, giving concise and focused insights not covered in our conversations on Wednesday.   If you could have any other job outside of the arts what would it be? What is a bucket list role or show you still hope to do one day? Who do you look up to? A mentor or someone who inspires you. Name a lesson or trait that took you awhile to learn or one that you are still learning to this day? What’s the best advice you’ve received? Today, Bret talks more about dream roles, his autistic brother, and the most important life lesson he's learned. Reach out to me directly with your own questions or comments via email (whyillnevermakeit@gmail.com) or on the website: contact.winmipodcast.com ---------- The time and expense needed to bring these guests and conversations to you each week is both sometimes challenging but always rewarding.   Today’s episode is a beautiful, fun, high-vibrational conversation with Broadway performer and Broadway Life Coach, Bret Shuford.  He gets vulnerable whilst sharing about his sobriety and how it has helped with boundaries, loving and accepting himself, and being of service.  This leads to a deep dive into sobriety and addiction from alcohol to sugar to social media and how we’re not getting what we really need. Once we address the core needs that aren’t being met life opens up in ways we only dream of. Sobriety led to Bret’s first Broadway show. Giving up sugar has brought me incredible ease and freedom. Bret then opens up about his favorite failure, entrepreneurship, and how he stays in alignment.  Stay tuned for more info about the ABA Webinar on July 17th @ 7pm.
