Learn about the surprising origins of Pollyanna's award‑winning Lexical Gap IPA, freeze‑distilled Eisbocks, and Snickers‑inspired pastry stout.Brian Pawola, co‑founder, head brewer, and distiller at Pollyanna Brewing Company, shares the story behind Pollyanna's most unique beers. In particular, he discusses the freeze distilling involved in crafting their Jötunheimr Eisbock Lager, the reluctance behind creating the award-winning Lexical Gap West Coast IPA, and what goes into creating their Dr. Pangloss Black IPA. He also discusses his German brewing education and his approach to balancing bitterness in high‑ABV beers. After the beer break, Brian shares some of Pollyanna's Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Toasted Marshmallow Fun Size pastry stout with peanut, coconut, vanilla bean, sea salt adjuncts, while sharing his thoughts on how to brew with lactose appropriately. Then, he discusses Pollyanna's expansion into distilling, the difference between brewing and distilling, and how much overlap there is between beer drinkers and consumers of spirits. Plus: why whiskey comes out clear from the barrel, where the color of bourbon comes from, and why roasting coffee is the next logical step in Pollyanna's evolution.Learn more about Pollyanna Brewing Company and its three locations in Lemont, St. Charles, and Roselle on their website at https://pollyannabrewing.com/ —You can learn more about Crafty Brewers and get in touch with us on our official website, https://craftybrewerspod.com Crafty Brewers is a production of Quantum Podcasts, LLC. Prost!
We haven't had guests in the studio is awhile, but YouTubers Two Blondes Drink Beer, Candi & Cara, brought it! Oh, and they also brought beer & swag! These BFF beer nerds talk beer on their show while judging the beers based on Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) guidelines. We talk about how they got into beer and how their show was created because of the pandemic. We get in on the act by judging mystery beers. Hilarity ensues. It's fairly obvious Nick & Nigel aren't beer judges, but they do have opinions! Beers consumed and "judged": Schneider Weisse, Aventinus Wheat Dopplebock Ale; ExBEERiment Brewing, Synthesis German Pilsner; Limitless Brewing, Pineapple, OJ, Mango, & Rum Cake Cream Ale; Melvin Eureka Brewing, Night Visions Vanilla Latte; & TRVE Brewing, Dunwich Porter.
Fear is an emotion that is hard-wired in us as humans, and so we naturally want to avoid the things that frighten us. But the biggest problem with this survival instinct is that there are times when we must face these fears in order to move forward and get ahead in life. We have a natural desire to avoid pain but if we don't address it head-on, it'll often lead to worse pain and problems down the road. This is often true when it comes to relationships, with our physical health, and it's definitely true when it comes to our money. It's a serious issue when we let fear get in the way of taking action. During this episode, with Halloween just around the corner, we cover some of the most common money fears that lurk in the back of our minds, and how to face them down in order to get one step closer to financial freedom. During this episode we both enjoyed a Hopfenweisse by Schneider Weisse- a massive thanks to Zach for sharing these with us! Welcome to A Woman's Brew, where women talk about beer! Have you heard of a Hopfenweisse? This is a relatively new style in the grand scheme of beer. A combination of the banana esters and clove phenols of a wheat beer and the fruity, bitter notes of hops. Tori and Jo were inspired to produce this episode after they got a can of Nacken by Siren Brew Co. Luckily, they managed to grab the original Hopfenweisse from Schneider Weisse to compare it to. Jo shares the interesting evolution of this style with you, while Tori tells the tale of how Nacken came to be through Swedish homebrew, naked sea gods and missing wheat! Have you tried a Hopfenweisse and what did you think? Come find us onInstagram to let us know!

Let’s Stick Together — The Value of Collaboration and Fostering Positive Relationships in Beer’s Modern Era Host: Matthew Curtis Guest Speakers: Dave Stone (Wylam), Steve Grae (Affinity), Brian Dickson (Northern Monk) What role do collaboration beers play in the modern beer market, and how does that differ—if at all—from what they meant before? We’ve come a long way since Brooklyn first collaborated with Schneider Weisse, which was the start of one of craft brewing biggest trends. But what are breweries now trying to accomplish through collaboration, how has that changed over time, and when does competition start to disrupt the convivial world of the collab?
