And Christophe also has Tourette's Syndrome, which means, and as most people might understand it, that people have tics. They often say things involuntary. Sometimes they might even have physical tics, I'm guessing. And let's see how that gives Kristoff a particular perspective that most of us can't see. And today we're going to talk about the spirit of marketing. And that's an interesting phrase that you used Kristoff. Tell us what that means to you. I think that means ultimately, like, how, how much of yourself, how human your approach to marketing is, how much you deviate from the notion that there has to be sort of a calculated approach. It's very it's a lot more human, I think. Yeah, so, for example, like I have Tourette's. ----- You were more transparent that way. And I'm wondering, have you been told that before that you appear to be more transparent with your feelings? Yeah, that's, um, that's a large, a large part of, I think, I think that's some part, at least a component of my success, is that I don't pretend to have confidence. I'm, yeah, I make no effort to false, to falsify that it doesn't it doesn't help. It doesn't help because people can see it, and then they just sort of pity you in secret. But if you, if you confront it, I feel like they can get on board with that, and they can, they can think within themselves, like, you know, what would I be doing in this situation, rather than, oh gosh, look what he's doing in this situation. Meet Kristof Morrow, a 34-year-old Navy veteran, an award winning journalist/photographer author of literary work "The Second Sun," which already sold more than 13 hundred copies . “Second Sun,” went viral on TikTok in June and it is recommended reading in university classes studying literature. Life gave no freebies to Kristof. Growing up, his parents viciously abused him daily. In the Navy, at the age of 18, he showed symptoms of an affliction he would discover years later was a rare type of Tourette Syndrome (TS), a condition of the nervous system. TS causes people to have “tics”. Tics are sudden twitches, movements, or sounds that people make repeatedly. This is his story of courage as he struggles with the negative emotional and social affects that Tourette's can have on anyone. In this episode, we are speaking with Author Kristof Morrow. Kristof is a Navy veteran, author, and award-winning journalist from Texas. Surviving a hellish upbringing of addiction and abuse, he joined the military as a corpsman immediately after high school. After serving for a year, he manifested Tourette's and the severity of his condition incurs great injury to himself, even now. Kristof made several attempts to attend a university and even won the highest awards at two different schools for their annual creative writing contests, but ultimately decided to continue self-teaching. Then, in 2016-2017, he became sober from alcohol after struggling for several years became a journalist by audition, and won awards in photography as well as feature writing from two Texas press associations. Kristof moved to Canada in 2017 to live in British Columbia and began writing his book “The Second Sun” in October 2021 and finished in February of this year. People experience Tics and Tourettes in different ways, and few presentations are the same from person to person. Sounds like chaos, right? Today, our guest is Kristof Morrow, a man who developed Tourettes Disorder at age 18 while serving in the U.S. Navy. And though he was eventually be discharged from Naval service because of the debilitating effects of Tourettes Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Kristof was able to discover his talents as a writer. Today, Kristof is an award-winning Author, journalist and his videos have gone viral on TikTok. Join us as Kristof tells his story and tells us how he was able to find success despite having a disability, and to give hope that anyone can overcome even the most challenging and chaotic situations in life. It's a perverted metamorphosis because modifying yourself doesn't work because then you have no identity. When you have an identity crisis, OCD and other means of coping are used, but these also cause problems. Military service is a solemn, noble thing. Being a Corman Medic in the navy “was a beautiful thing” and “I wanted to know that I was capable of doing that kind of good.”The letter Kristof wrote to service members in middle school. “What's important to me is to provide care to everyone, and do no harm.” Tics are a brief loss of agency. “The underlying cause is unknown, but I know what exacerbates it.”Tips and Tools:Tip #1: One of the main keys to healing is to understand that the notions you have about yourself arrived from abuse and not from the truth.Tip #2: Know what exacerbates your tic(s), and wear gloves or protective clothing to prevent harm to yourselfTip #3: Tics can manifest when you are under pressure, so learning to manage anxiety is crucialTip #4: When any meaningful relationships or any other life domains are compromised, it's a sign that you need to accept that you have a mental health issue and can receive help for itTip #5: Mental health is not your fault but it is your responsibilityTip #6: Being more forgiving toward yourself for having a mental health condition is helpfulGoing Forward – And Doing Great Things (Kristof's Top 10 Tips): 1. But I did try it and it really works. Meditation is one of those things that you have to do every day like once a day; you can't just do it once.   Bullying Story Well,  I was bullied pretty relentlessly, even in school, because I have a pretty severe case I think, of ADHD.  So that did not enable me to make friends my own age. And so when I was in school, I had a lot of difficulty cooperating with kids my own age. So maturing was very deliberate because otherwise my life was filled with horror and terror and poverty. We were really poor for the first half of my life. I'm currently wearing bandages and tape on two fingers, and a thumb brace from an injury resulting from just that. On October 16, 2021, I surrendered that fight and began writing once more. He soon found himself diving deep into minimal techno, ambient electronic, dark ambient, and more.The sound of Second Sun initially started during the first pandemic lockdown, where he discovered an immediate love for minimal and ambient music. Through a growing passion for modular synthesizers, flow state improvisation, as well as an insatiable hunger for exploring the creative field between human and machine, Second Sun was born.Second Sun mainly works with modular synths, tape, and similar hardware equipment. His creative process is intuitive, exploratory and reflective, and usually revolves around creating atmospheres and sonic spaces.
