Episode 148 is an absolute must with a long-time Canadian legend, National team member, Division 1 star and overseas pro, Melvin Ejim. We get right into the episode and talk about the recent Paris Olympics, Melvin has a unique perspective as he's been a part of Canada's Senior Men's team for a long time and has seen it go from where it was to what it is now. The unique story of Melvin started with really only being exposed to soccer at a young age, however, it was an important Uncle who saw there could be some potential in the big man and he pushed Melvin to give basketball a try. From there the trajectory and improvement was intense, Melvin developed and kept improving to the point where he went down south and played High School in the States. Many of his teammates became future NBA and Division One stars and Melvin started to see that was something he wanted as well. In the end, he chose Iowa State, and after a solid Freshman season, Melvin was having a hard time living up to his expectations in year 2. It was an important face-to-face conversation with head coach Fred Hoiberg that changed things around. Iowa State was on the map for those years, making the NCAA tournament and Melvin was Big 12 Player of the Year, averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds in his senior year. From there he has had a great overseas career, continued to be with the National team all while balancing his life as a dad as well. This episode has lots of great reflection, Melvin is a hard-working and intelligent young man with a story worth checking out! Tap in! Galway's Joe Lyons is the Irish Senior Men's Amateur Close Champion.  He beat Galway Bay's Eddie McCormack 5&4 today in Kilkeel to successfully retain his title. Earlier, he beat Jim Carvill by just one hole in the semi-final, while McCormack overcame David Mulholland 4&3 to set up the all-Galway decider. Not long after successfully retaining the title, Joe Lyons joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly on 'Over The Line.' == Galway golfer Joe Lyons and Belvoir Park's Gail Linter took home Irish Senior Men's and Women's Amateur Close Championships at Kilkeel on Friday evening. Karl Bornemann (Douglas) won the Irish Veteran Men's Amateur Close Championship and it was Sheena McElroy (Grange) who claimed the Irish Senior Women's Amateur Close Plate. Lyons and his good friend Eddie McCormack (Galway Bay) set up a massive final when they defeated David Mulholland (Castlerock) and Jim Carvill (Banbridge) respectively in the semi-finals. Lyons got in front early in the decider and was 2up heading down the back nine, he moved to 4up with five holes remaining and sealed his 5&4 win with a short putt on 14. “I was under a bit of pressure this week, I was a bit down in the Order of Merit and our European team is to be selected after this week,” said Lyons. “I'm delighted, I was +6 after nine in the stroke play and I thought I was on my way home, it's always nice to win. “A special mention for Eddie, we battled long and hard down the years and we're the best of friends and best of rivals as well. Today was my day but I certainly wouldn't have won all I have won if it wasn't for Eddie.   “We push each other on, we both had quite a bit of success down through the years. I'm sure he'll bounce back and he'll win plenty more.” Leading qualifier Deirdre Smith (County Louth) advanced to the final of the Irish Senior Women's Amateur Close thanks to a narrow win against Lisa Cullen (Killarney) while Linter had the same 2&1 victory over Tracy Eakin (Dooks). It was an enthralling final and when Linter missed her chance to seal the win on 18, she battled back and won with a birdie on the first extra hole. “I can't believe it, I wasn't expecting it,” said Linter. “I've come on the Seniors a few years ago but I would never have expected this in my wildest dreams.” Bornemann had a comprehensive win over Hugh Smyth (Mourne) in the semi-finals while David Brabazon (Balbriggan) was taken to extra holes by Patrick Madigan (Tramore). In what was another epic final, Bornemann finally grinded out a 3&2 victory. Fionnuala Halpin (Dun Laoghaire) booked her place in the final with victory over Shirley Real (Castletroy) and McElroy got the better of Carol McEnroe (Headfort). And it was McElroy who won 1up in the final.

Welcome back. We're easing into your Monday with some Trump/Ron Maclean/Hockey/Cheating @ Golf news. We opened with a list of our least favorite Canadian bands, and Dean wrote, "Treble Charger makes me want to commit murder." It was a big weekend for Jewish hockey fans as Zach Hymen became the first "Jewish Person" to score 50 goals in a season. Lochlin wants to know if we're allowed to repeat "Zach Hymen becomes the only Jew to score 50 goals in a season" because he, like the rest of us, isn't sure if we are allowed to repeat that word OR the point of relevance. However, Dean and Loch landed on a compromise where they don't sound anti-Semitic reading a headline. Ron Maclean went ham on the weekend, and Dean and Loc want to know if it's time for Ron to step aside OR if we think Ron Maclean's dated references about Glen Satehr's mom's dress shop, poetry, or boomer references are a little dated. We LOVE Ron, but is it time for Ron to move off air and into a consulting role like everyone else who ages out? Trump is set to lose half of his $500m net worth today as an appeals court lowered his appeal bond to $175 million in the E Jean Carroll rape and defamation case. I was laughing at all the MAGATS who think this is a win for #DonPoorleone, who still has to come up with at least $180m in the next week while bankers laugh at him as he begs them for money. Trump ALSO managed to win the "Mar-a-lago Mens and Senior Men's golf Championship" (LOLOLOLZ) this weekend and forced Jack Nicklaus to give him the Trophies while acting as his OWN emcee. AWESOME. Lochlin and I talk about how fucking incredible Trump is at separating 91 criminal indictments for selling nuclear secrets, sedition, and treason to tell people he's the best golfer at Mar-A-Lago. (According to other golfers, he cheated his asshole off, and Dean thinks golf cheaters are all serial killers).
