This week we speak with Professor Robert Hamilton of the University of Toronto about a recent case-control study in which his team identified a novel auto-antibody targeting a fetal cardiac protein that proved to have excellent sensitivity and specificity for the identification of fetuses that would develop heart block in fetal life in the offspring of women with maternal connective tissue disorders. How did the team in Toronto choose these particular target proteins? How well did this test perform in predicting heart block in pregnancies where there had been a prior pregnancy affected by block? Does this test possibly mean that fewer fetuses of mothers with connective tissue will need surveillance? Dr. Hamilton shares the details of this fascinating study this week. https://doi.org/10.1016/s2665-9913(25)00092-xWe also speak with Drs. David Ezon and Kenan Stern about the upcoming 16th Annual Mount Sinai Imaging Symposium - Conversations in Care: Cardiac Conundrums & 3D Echo Workshop which will be taking place at Mount Sinai on 5/31/25. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Ryan: With regards to D3 supplementation and vitamin K2, how important is it to get K2 if you're supplementing D3? If I'm taking 5000IU of D3 daily, but am not getting K2 from supps or eating organ meats or grass-fed butter etc... do you think that could be an issue? Does taking magnesium and eating a well-rounded diet offset this potential issue? With the food sources of K2 being what they are, surely hardly anyone is getting much K2. What are the work arounds or other factors involved here? Or should I just make sure to get a K2 supp? Mike: Hi Dr. Cabral how often should someone use a infrared sauna for mold toxicity or heavy metal toxicity? Thank you. Sara: Hi Dr Cabral! Thank you so much for all your amazing content and giving us the opportunity to learn so much and so deeply about the body and mind! I am today writing for a friend. I tried finding podcast about this (when looking for health-answers I always first go to your podcast), but without luck. My question is regarding rematoid arthritis and which underlying imbalances to focus on the heal or at least minimize the pain, stiffness and swollen joints? She is not yet diagnosed, but as I am a nurse, it seems like that's what it is. Never the less it's definite that she has inflammation and a lot of pain and being swollen in the joints and the high pain also seem to come in waves. I've guided her to make changes in the diet and with lifestyle to increase gut health and lower inflammation and she also tried MSN, Glycogen, Collagen, Magnesium to help the joint-health. But anyway, I would like to know more on how to address and guide her to a more balanced life if this actually is reumatoid arthritis? Thank you so much for your help and guidance! Lara: Hi, dr. Cabral, you amazing soul :) I heard of some benefits of using the mushroom ganoderma but I always have to check it up with you, hehe.. you are my go-to on all things health.. so please explain more about it if you can.. I have fibromyalgia, but I’m sure information could also help others.. Thank you so much for everything you do, much love to you, your family and everyone trying to heal. Carolyn: Hello Dr. Cabral, My son and I were patients of yours a few years back and you were very helpful!!! I am hoping you can help once again! I just found out I am positive homozygous APOE, and I am terrified, as my mother has dementia. You have mentioned the benefits of Ashwaganda, but I have read where it is not recommend for people with autoimmune issues. (I have Hashimotos, and Sjogrens.) Should I still take it? Thank you, and God Bless! Carolyn Cory: Hi Dr Cabral, my 4 week old is currently being tested for hirschsprung's disease. While we wait for test results and maybe surgery, the surgeon has prescribed 4 bowel irrigation’s a day. It seems excessive and I worry that she’ll lose muscle tone and become dependent on the irrigation to have a bowel movement. Are there natural ways to manage hirschsprung's disease? Thank you. This week we review the topic of heart block in the newborn or fetus and review a novel prospective trial assessment of hydroxychloroquine to reduce recurrences of heart block in the offspring of Anti-SSA/Ro-positive mothers. We speak with Professor Jill Buyon and Professor Peter Izmirly, both of NYU Medical Center about a recent multi center trial assessing the impact of this agent for this purpose. How effective was this drug and what if any complications were encountered? What is next in the study of this topic? Drs. Buyon and Izmirly share many insights this week. doi: 10.1016/j.jacc.2020.05.045

Welcome, we are delighted to have you join us today!Today's episode we are honoured to have Sally Fung share with us her struggles and success on staying healthy while fighting autoimmune disease. Sally is the first survivor of viral myocarditis (Inflammation of the heart) in Canada who gets to keep her own heart. She is in her late 30's currently residing in the country in Burlington. She married her high-school sweetheart of 20 years and they have 4 kids together (1 girl, twin boys and 1 boy). She beat all odds of surviving this 1 in a million heart condition and having twins afterwards. They called her the miracle girl at Toronto General Hospital.Recently she is also diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Sjogrens and because of this diagnosis, it brought light to the doctors why she had myocarditis in the first place. I've always been interested in Health - mostly because of my Gene pool and lack of health on both sides of my family - Diabetes & heart disease. I came accoss a Nutrition program to become a Certified Holistic Integrative Health Coach, which I have completed, I was doing a post grad corse on Reversing Diabetes, when SB277 hit California, after learning what SB277 meant to us, being MANDATED and SEGREGRATED I turned my Husbands Chiropractic office into a HUB to collect signatures for a Referendum. It was then, that I really begin researching about Vaccinations. When my husband was in Chiropractic College, one day he came home, and shared what his instructors had to say about vaccines. And what he said was that vaccines are a roll of the dice, and can give you the disease you are trying to prevent, and it can kill you , So we decided to not vaccinate, anymore. As SB277 Passed Law, I have hit the Rabbit hole on researching and it's been 2 years and I still research every day. I have conditions of my health with Sjogrens and pre diabetes along with the MTHFR gene. I work at Detox & Cleansing. My husband has been very diligent and respectful to me and has taken an interest in my Activism, and also he put up a Custom Vaccine Poster to help educate his patients, and now attends my booths with me. He is also reading the book; Dissolving illusions, by Dr. Suzanne Humphries, (I highly recommend ) I opened a Face book group to make a library for learning tools and now have 12 Admins helping and assisting who are very knowledgeable about vaccines, and know how to interact with members well . My group is called HOLISTC ACTION IN THE VACCINE LIBRARY. I will also be Hosting VAXXED MOVIE Night, with discussion - Q &A after I am also Translating MY BIRTH PLAN into other languages and so far we I have 16 to date and growing daily to help save our babies all over the world.
