Lenita Abouchabake is from Sydney, Australia and the Founder of Teen Coach Academy. This is her second interview on the Youth Worker On Fire Podcast. Lenita's business is helping adults who already serve teenagers and their families become teen life coaches. That may seem odd to some of you, but life coaching has been around for quite a while... and this is even better! Youth workers need to make a living and they are seldom paid what they are worth. In fact, they are well undervalued in churches who should be pouring the bulk of their resources into their Youth & Family Pastors, students, and their families. Why? Because we say that students are our future, but what many unfortunately mean by this is students are our future... as long as it doesn't cost us too much. If we were to pay workers what they are worth and build a budget to support these future leaders, then we would see frequent worldwide changes in our society. Instead, with the exception of a small percentage of churches and schools worldwide, we "Hope" they will become world changers, but we are not willing to put money and action to that statement of importance. Lenita, on the other hand is willing to put her reputation, resources, and giftedness on the line. She believes youth workers, students and their parents are worth the effort and sacrifice. In this episode, Lenita will guide you how you can support yourself, so that you can afford to make a good living while serving the teens and families that you know are ready to change their world. Lenita's company (Teen Coach Academy) trains great leaders to grow up great leaders. Why? Because Lenita was a teen of a single mom who paid coaches to help her become the great woman of God, a world changing leader, and the successful business owner that she has become. Thank you for sharing Lenita (all the way from The Land Down Under) to the rest of the world! I am excited to have a special guest, Kate Simonet, on the show today to discuss her eye-opening and inspiring journey she's been on since her mental health hit an all time low during her senior year at high school. What followed was a two-weeklong psychiatric hospitalization stays and a suicide attempt, before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Once thinking that was going to limit her in life, Kate is now an author, inspirational speaker and Program Manager at the amazing youth mental health organization, Thumbs Up. Tune in to hear Kate's inspiring story of rising above her struggles to prove that a diagnosis doesn't have to define you or confine your life. There's also helpful advice on what to do if someone you love is diagnosed with a mental health condition and how to better support them. Check out Kate's book, Out of the Darkness, on Amazon here. Here's more from Kate about her journey & why she wrote such an honest and brave book: "As a senior in high school, I had what many would call an "All-American Life." I was varsity captain in three sports, was named the most athletic female in my highschool, an academic honors student, and, in seven short months, I would be on my way to a Division II college to pursue my education and compete on the cross country and track team. My parents are supportive and married. I have a loving sister. I was truly happy and thankful for the life I had and all the hard work I had put in to get me to where I was. Despite this "All-American" background, nothing had prepared me for the downward spiral that led me to two, two-weeklong psychiatric hospitalization stays and a suicide attempt before those seven months were up. I would later be diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and, with time, learn to overcome stigma, and eventually find peace and learn to live a successful and meaningful life. If I had a better understanding of what mental illnesses looked like and had the correct resources and language to ask for help, things would not have been so difficult for my younger self. I believe that if my parents and friends had known more about mental health issues I would not have had to go through what I did. I wish there were more awareness and education of how mental health issues can affect even a successful, driven, loved, and supportive kid. I don't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. I hope by sharing my story I can bring awareness to mental health and give the reader a sense of hope. If people do not share their experiences, how do we learn from one another and help each other along the way?"

You've likely heard saying ''Feel the fear and do it anyway'' - but HOW do you actually do that? How do you ask that cute guy out, audition for the musical or drop out of a course you have zero interest in - even when you're terrified of failing or being rejected and ridiculed for it? The answer lies in understanding what you're actually afraid of (it's probably not what you think) and that you're already living your worst case scenario. What do I mean by this? Be sure to tune in to find out. If you're sick of hiding away in fear and ready to live true to the ''me you want to be'' in the world - this episode is for you! Let's do this!
Do you have a friend who sometimes goes through your phone without asking? Shares things that you tell them in secret? Tries to pressure you into something you don't want to do? These are all signs that a boundary needs to be put in place! A boundary is essentially how to self protect your own needs, space and values so you ensure you keep being a friend to yourself first and foremost. But I know sometimes people are afraid to speak up or set a boundary in fear it might upset the other person or worry that they'll just ignore it anyway. So tune into this episode to learn the 3 biggest myths that keep people from setting proper boundaries & how you can set better ones in your relationships as needed! It's our special Halloween episode, and I'm coming to you in a costume! You'll have to check out the video version on our YouTube channel to see what I'm dressed as, but let's just say I've taken on the persona of "Life Coach Barbie" for the day. Yes, you heard that right! I've always been a Barbie fan, and with the recent Barbie movie, it seemed like the perfect fit for this spooky season. Now, onto the heart of today's episode: "Are You Being Haunted by Your Thoughts?" I know we've all experienced those moments when thoughts seem to creep up and haunt us, creating anxiety and fear. These thoughts can feel like they're swirling around, making it hard to focus and move forward. I've had my fair share of such thoughts in the past, and I know many of you have too. That's what I want to discuss today. As a kid, I loved scary movies and books, and I had a particular fascination with witches. But here's the twist: even though I enjoyed these stories, I was terrified of them. I vividly remember my childhood nightmares about witches lurking under my bed, or behind the closet door, waiting for the right moment to pounce. And I know I'm not alone in having such scary thoughts. Our brains are incredibly powerful, and they can conjure up the most frightening scenarios, causing anxiety and fear. These thoughts often feel like ghosts, lingering and creating a sense of unease. But here's the important part: these thoughts are not reality; they are simply the product of our minds.Anxiety is a natural response to stress, and it's like an overactive alarm system in our brains. It can magnify our fears and make everyday thoughts seem terrifying. It's as if we're wearing anxiety-tinted glasses, distorting our perception of reality. So, what can we do to deal with these haunted thoughts? Here's a simple, yet powerful three-step approach:Turn the Lights On: Just like you'd turn on the lights to reveal that there are no monsters under the bed, start paying attention to your thoughts. Write them down, be curious about them, and notice any patterns. This is how you shed light on those haunting thoughts.Ask Yourself: Are These Ghosts Real? Challenge the thoughts by questioning their validity. Are they true, or are they just stories your mind is creating? Like the monsters under your bed, many of these thoughts are not real.Talk Back: Don't be a victim to your thoughts. Talk back to them. In your mind, tell them that they are not welcome, and you don't believe they are real. It's like asserting your control over those haunting thoughts.Remember, you don't have to face this journey alone. If the haunted thoughts are overwhelming, reach out for support. Parents, school counselors, mental health professionals, and even life coaches like me are here to help. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. You have the power to face your fears, and you don't have to be haunted by your thoughts. By implementing these simple steps, you can regain control and create an amazing life.Tune in, take notes, and let's banish those spooky thoughts together. I believe in you, and I'll talk to you soon.Find my podcastEmail me: ccoufal@betterregulatethannever.comText me: 785-380-2064More information Get a YouMap® Assessment Profile

Thanks to the filtered world of social media and everything we see in the movies and TV, our brains have subconsciously been conditioned to think of beauty looking one particular way. Unfortunately that can lead to a lot of nasty thoughts spiraling about our own bodies when we look in the mirror or try on our clothes. If you're having one of those days - where your insecurities are loud and you're fearing "I'm not enough" - tune into this episode. I share my favourite quotes and inspiration to help you override the ANTS (automatic negative thoughts) with far more empowering truths about what beauty really is and why your self worth is unconditional and completely detached from how you look. True self confidence won't come from losing another kilo, it comes from stepping into all that you are. Find the courage to do along with me in this episode.

This is a conversation you do not want to miss. My oldest Son Hunter is 18, and he is the same age I was when I found out I was pregnant. Hunter is nothing like I was when I was a kid (sorry mom!). He truly is one of a kind and has been someone I've looked up to for a long time. He knows who he is and what he values most. Most importantly is that he never wavers! I love this and want to be just like him when I grow up. In this episode, Hunter shares from his perspective some things that worked really well between the two of us and even some areas I could improve. I hope you love this conversation as much as I did recording it!Let's Connect.Free guide: 5 ways to Stress Less: Get the guide hereFree Women's Support Group; We meet monthly on the full moon: Join hereCome find me on Instagram: @bridgetcovillCheck out my website and my offerings here
Whether it's asking someone to prom or running for student council, I know that sometimes we need to make decisions about doing something that feels scary or overwhelming to do. What if I regret doing it? What if it doesn't turn out and no one votes for me? Or my date says no? It's easy to let anxiety of all the 'bad things' that could happen take over so our mind spins over the decision for way too long that we end up missing the chance to do the thing at all. Have you just avoided your biggest regret, or walked head first into it? Tune in to find out! Want to speak in person at your school or college to help support your peers? I am so excited for you to meet my next podcast guest! She was a student I worked with as a high school counselor and now she has graduated with her Bachelor's in Graphic Design! I had Laiken as a student all 4 years of her high school career and have continued to keep in touch as she navigated adult life and college! I wanted you to hear her story about how she did it. I think some young people who have learning challenges, decide too early that college is not for them. I wanted you to see that it isn't as scary as it sounds and Laiken gives us all (Parents and young people) something to think about as we are guiding neurodiverse teens and young adults. I have been offering free worry workshops every Saturday and as I go through those sessions and work on anxiety with many of my clients, I have found an even better way to process emotions. As I have been teaching this concept to my clients, I realized it is exactly how we need to be processing ALL of our emotions, because remember, if we don't process our emotions, we get stuck in the tunnel. We don't want to feel and process emotions that are uncomfortable so we do a lot of things to not feel them like overeating, binge-watching Netflix, staying at home, using alcohol or drugs, scrolling social media and all of these things get in the way of the life we want to live.Feeling WheelSteps to Process and EmotionAudio to Process Emotions Guided by Me Find my podcastEmail me: ccoufal@betterregulatethannever.comText me: 785-380-2064More information Help me with my research. It's a powerful little pep talk to help you step into your greatness and believe in your own worthiness - even when others may be missing it. "I don't want to look stupid" - that's the number one reason I hear when I ask my coaching students why they don't raise their hand in class (even when they have a question or think they know the answer to one!). If you can relate to feeling the same way sometimes, and hold yourself back from answering or asking questions in class in fear of being judged or getting it wrong, here's the exact pep talk you need! Not only will your grades likely improve by raising your hand more in class, you'll be building up your ability to 'feel the fear and do it anyway' - which is really what takes you furthest in life!

In fact, that's exactly what this very show does itself! So it's not that I'm against offering tips and inspiration to others, I love it! But I do think that some common sayings/beliefs that, although are well intended, may actually be stunting your growth or fulilment in life. Tune in to find out what those 5 pieces of advice are and what I believe is more helpful to focus on instead! Want to speak in person at your school or college to help support your peers?
