I learned about today's guest indirectly through a speaker at my Rotary Club. Stacey Legg, the Program Coordinator at Elevate Bay spoke at one of our meetings. Elevate Bay is an organization that works in the Bay County School District providing mentors for at-risk students. One of the schools she mentioned that needed mentors was West Bay Elementary which is about 10 minutes from our house. Although Nancy and I had never had children and certainly didn't know much about working with second and third graders, we signed up, went through the orientation, and were assigned students at West Bay. This September, we began our third year as mentors. The young student I met as a second grader will be a fourth grader in September. So that's how I became acquainted with Deniese Moss and the amazing work she is doing as the principal of West Bay Elementary School. Thanks again for listening to the Next Gen Nonprofit Leadership With Tommy Thomas podcast. If you're listening to an app that lets you leave a review, please do so. Many of our listeners come to us on the recommendation of a friend or a colleague. If you've heard something today worth passing on, please share the show with others. Enjoy! Time Stamps [2:15] – We're introduced to our guest, Deniece Moss, and learn what kind of an impact a mentor can make by spending 30 minutes a week with a student. [3:40] – What does Deniece remember from her childhood that prepared her for the life she has today? [4:19] – This is how Deniece has learned to incorporate faith into the public school system. [5:32] – We learn about Deniece's most influential teacher she had as a child and the best principal she ever worked for. [8:42] – Deniece takes us back to 2015 and her decision to move to administration. [10:30] – These are the measures that Deniece's school takes for the safety of its students. [11:41] – The demographics and culture at West Bay Elementary School, according to Deniece. [14:00] – Deniece talks about the House System at West Bay. [15:46] – We hear about the friendly competitions between Houses that result in charitable donations and drives for the school and community. [17:10] – The “bumper sticker” for West Bay. [19:12] – Deniece talks about the school's interactions with parents. [21:44] – What is the greatest challenge, controversy, or crisis Deniece and her team faced? [24:10] – We hear what Deniece does to maintain a work/life balance. [25:11] – Deniece reveals what she would do-over early in her life and also shares her advice for those following in her footsteps. [26:45] – Tommy concludes the conversation. Deniece Williams shared a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with pop singer Johnny Mathis in 1978 with the duet “Too Much, Too Little, Too Late”. The duet also topped the Black Singles and Adult Contemporary charts. Williams also topped the dance charts with her disco single “I’ve Got the Next Dance”. Mathis and Williams also recorded the popular theme to the 1980s sitcom Family Ties, “Without Us”.Williams moved on to the American Recording Company (ARC) in the early 1980s where she scored the top ten R&B smash hit “Silly” in 1981. The following year, yet another famed producer, Thom Bell, helped Williams score another #1 R&B chart-topper with her remake of The Royalettes’ “It’s Gonna Take a Miracle,” which became a Top 10 pop hit as well, reaching #10.In 1984, Deniece released the album Let’s Hear It for the Boy, in which the title track reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was featured on the soundtrack to Footloose. The song would prove to be the biggest pop hit of her career – and the last. She also contributed vocals, along with Maurice White, to the song “And Then” from Weather Report’s album Mr. Gone released in 1982. She continued releasing albums during the 1980s such as Hot On The Trail (1986), Water Under The Bridge (1987), and As Good As It Gets (1988), which featured her last Top Ten hit to date, “I Can’t Wait”, written by Skylark.Although Deniece had recorded one inspirational song on almost each of her albums, it was in 1980 that her musical career path began change toward one of her favorite things, Gospel music. She joined with friends Phillip Bailey (Earth, Wind and Fire fame), Billy Davis and Marilyn McCoo to present a gospel show at a popular Los Angeles club named The Roxy. The show was called “Jesus At the Roxy”. Deniece felt strongly about it saying, “God did something miraculous. Over three hundred people were saved”, as reported in an interview with Gospel Today Magazine. After that, both Bailey and Williams decided to pursue careers in Christian music. In 1983, Deniece and Bailey recorded “They Say”, an atmospheric, slow praise song that builds towards the end with rousing words of praise. The song was written by songwriters Skip Scarborough and Terri McFaddin and received airplay on both Urban and Gospel Black radio. Deniece later recorded the song with Christian artist Sandi Patti and won a Grammy for it. In 1984, Deniece sang a Gospel song at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards. She sang an acapella version of her 1977 composition “God Is Amazing”. In 1986, she would release her first full-length gospel album, “So Glad I Know” (Sparrow 1121; # 8-gospel) which brought her two Grammy awards.Deniece would continue to write, record and release Gospel music for the next several years. From 1996 to 2004, she presented her own BBC radio show in the UK, showcasing new gospel and inspirational music. During that time (1999) she recorded the Gospel album This Is My Song, which brought her another Grammy award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.Deniece continues to work on countless projects and is still quite active in the music industry today. She has an incredible four-octave range and distinctive soprano voice. Her vocal range was also pointed out by The New York Times, “Miss Williams mounted a spectacular vocal display in which her penetrating, feline soprano soared effortlessly to E flat above high C, and she worked various vowel sounds into prolonged feats of vocal gymnastics”.In pointing to Deniece’s similar vocal ability as her former musical icon and colleague (Minnie Riperton), Mark Anthony Neal in referencing Jill Scott’s agility in displaying vocal acrobatics, states, “Scott draws on her upper register recalling the artistry of the late Minnie Riperton and “songbird” Deniece Williams”. According to Monica Haynes of Post-Gazette.com, “Williams has the kind of range that would make Mariah Carey quiver”! View the Deniece Williams Discography here. A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to be shown a birth plan protocol, developed by a health researcher, mother and home schooling advocate named Deniece Young (Facebook). It was the most comprehensive summary plan I had seen, of important elements to take into consideration, for anyone considering a hospital birth for their child. I realized on reading the plan how important the information was, and felt all our listeners should see and understand it. The best way to accomplish that was to invite Deniece on the show as soon as possible. I was fortunate that she accepted the invitation, and she will be with us this Sunday night. Deniece was a business consultant, but got involved in the campaign to stop California's forced vaccination bill for children, the infamous SB277. Then she got trained as a health consultant, and continued to do research in two areas of great interest to her, vaccination and childbirth. Now Deniece shares what she continues to uncover in these critical areas of awareness, and has become a valuable resource for parents and everyone else who wants to raise healthy children in spite of the medical tyranny that has taken hold in the U.S. and most of the supposedly civilized world. I expect our discussion to be full of important information for anyone wanting to protect their own health or that of their children against the current and coming plans for forced vaccination and medical procedures that are destroying lives in countries all over the world. This is not to focus on the negative, but to develop a realistic and strategic awareness of the environment we are now living in, so that we can be successful in turning it back toward sanity and what should be a normal way of life for all of us.

I've always been interested in Health - mostly because of my Gene pool and lack of health on both sides of my family - Diabetes & heart disease. I came accoss a Nutrition program to become a Certified Holistic Integrative Health Coach, which I have completed, I was doing a post grad corse on Reversing Diabetes, when SB277 hit California, after learning what SB277 meant to us, being MANDATED and SEGREGRATED I turned my Husbands Chiropractic office into a HUB to collect signatures for a Referendum. It was then, that I really begin researching about Vaccinations. When my husband was in Chiropractic College, one day he came home, and shared what his instructors had to say about vaccines. And what he said was that vaccines are a roll of the dice, and can give you the disease you are trying to prevent, and it can kill you , So we decided to not vaccinate, anymore. As SB277 Passed Law, I have hit the Rabbit hole on researching and it's been 2 years and I still research every day. I have conditions of my health with Sjogrens and pre diabetes along with the MTHFR gene. I work at Detox & Cleansing. My husband has been very diligent and respectful to me and has taken an interest in my Activism, and also he put up a Custom Vaccine Poster to help educate his patients, and now attends my booths with me. He is also reading the book; Dissolving illusions, by Dr. Suzanne Humphries, (I highly recommend ) I opened a Face book group to make a library for learning tools and now have 12 Admins helping and assisting who are very knowledgeable about vaccines, and know how to interact with members well . My group is called HOLISTC ACTION IN THE VACCINE LIBRARY. I will also be Hosting VAXXED MOVIE Night, with discussion - Q &A after I am also Translating MY BIRTH PLAN into other languages and so far we I have 16 to date and growing daily to help save our babies all over the world.

As her success grew, she found herself on the fast track. One thing led to another and Deniece became a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder as part of “Wonderlove.” in the early 1970s. It was an exciting time and she experienced many things on her journey. In 1975, Deniece decided to venture forward, leaving Stevie Wonder and signing with Columbia Records. She then teamed up with two famed producers: Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire, and his frequent collaborator, Charles Stepney. Her 1976 debut album entitled This Is Niecy was released. The single “Free” reached #2 on the Black Singles chart, #25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 on the British Singles chart. The album also featured “Cause You Love Me Baby” (which charted separately on the R&B chart as the flip side of “Free”) and “That's What Friends Are For”. She also shared a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with pop singer Johnny Mathis in 1978 with the duet “Too Much, Too Little, Too Late”.
